Title: Dapper's WIP Models - Now with INQ28!
Post by: DapperAnarchist on August 26, 2010, 02:31:43 PM
After many months of lingering in a box in my parents attic, I've freed some incomplete models for work. All C&C is welcome

This is my Ordo Sicarius Inquisitor, Andrej Cass, aka the Grey Man. However, even though he now has a coat of paint on him... I'm seriously considering ripping him apart and starting over. The trousers, the coat, the lining... its terrible. The best parts so far isn't visible - his large bionic arm with a chain axe. I also managed to lose part of the shield that is to go on his right arm...

This is my power-armoured renegade Inquisitor, Lady Photine Kalanode. Also currently missing an arm, hers has a sort of Daemon-possessed claw. She's got a base coat, and bulked out thighs.

This is my attempt at a Space Marine Scout of the Grey Slayers chapter, made from a Halo action figure. I'm mostly posting it now because I'm rather proud of the freehand... He'll have a bolter held upright, while the other hand reaches for a grenade from behind him. Its blurry as a very blurry thing in the fog, but thats the best I can get with this camera - there's no Macro function, I've checked. Its annoying. Hopefully you can see it.

Looks good so far. The half finishedness of the models and their paint jobs isn't flattering them much mind :P

Well, they are WIP... :P

Since I can't actually work on one thing until its done, some other stuff has gotten done as well. I'm reworking a Magos I made a while back, improving in various ways. I've also made the leap and ripped apart the first model in the thread - and taken the opportunity to redo some of the parts, such as his shotgun. So -

Badly focused front view here (http://lh4.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/THe0ujbuYhI/AAAAAAAAAR4/NzAMLVSQHMo/s800/DSC00207.JPG)

That's the Magos. Additions - making the cloak more fluttery, mechandrites made from guitar wire and bits from here and there, and he's going to have a sort of ball stuck on the back of his head, to represent a binary cortex.

Here we have the scout's bolter, recently improved on, the Inquisitor's double barrelled shotgun, and a head for another character, a psyker with a psy-booster or implanted psychic hood - represented by lots of wires coming out of her head. The wire bit on the bolter is inspired by the wire bit/decoration on the old Scout Sergeant bolt pistol - the one who had a chainsword over his head. Another view here (http://lh5.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/THe0vSl06ZI/AAAAAAAAASE/162WSXlS2_I/s800/DSC00213.JPG), and a view of just the back of her head here (http://lh6.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/THe0v90XaLI/AAAAAAAAASI/NfPyUh9ENuM/s800/DSC00215.JPG).

Double posting because the only other thing I have to occupy myself with is taking care of a kitten and telling my dog to stop trying to lick me... The first model posted here has been ripped apart, and so here is the Mark 2 (perhaps Mark 3, actually) version of Andrej Cass

Another view (http://lh4.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/THhH_Tm-vDI/AAAAAAAAASw/ROG63v0-rgY/s800/DSC00217.JPG). And another (http://lh6.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/THhIkFD1R7I/AAAAAAAAAS4/CfAMPHFInT8/s800/DSC00219.JPG).

He's now got a cherub following him, as you can see, because I decided that that base was the one for him, and then realised the cherub would sit perfected on that clock gear... I'm trying to go for a Blanche-esque feel here, similar to the bearded Inquisitor from the "Old Inquisitors" page in the Inquisition Sketchbook - under the one that apparently inspired Eisenhorn.

Any comments?

Even though all your models are rough and unfinished, they all have a fantastic charm about them, with all the different looking bits (particularly the cogs) adding huge amounts of 40k grimness.

I can't really comment other than to say I like them all! Especially the last two full figures and the halo-scout model, which I may take inspiration from :D

The power armoured renegade inquistor is good and the magos looks awesome. I will be sure to comment when they are finished. :)

It appears I am a dreadful liar. There is a macro function on the camera, its just hidden. Bastards... That, or I'm incompetent. Both are possible  ;D. Properly focused photos follow...

So, decided to try and get ahead on the Magos while I have the time - today and tomorrow. Then they all go back in the box until I move into a flat in Chester, in about two weeks. Here I present a pair of close ups, one of his face, which is a HUGE improvement over the previous version, which had an awful respirator made from the exhaust vent from a marine pack (part of which remains) and three badly made bionic eyes made of tubing and wire - replaced with a face plate, which will be gold, in the style of the astronaut helmet look, or the MJOLNIR armour faceplates from Halo.

The other is of one of his three mechadendrites, this one a utility one - a little clamp or something similar.

Made from the wing bolters off the Epic Thunderhawk...

Also a better focused overall view (http://lh4.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/THj8voIBqLI/AAAAAAAAATc/LkffuarPFpM/s800/Magos3.JPG) showing some crude basecoating.

However, I am going to repost something, now that I have proper focus - the freehand from the first post.

Also, yay, comments! I'll probably be posting again tonight, because, as mentioned, I have nothing else to do here :D

Right, a completed model - the Magos. Simple, kinda flat I'll admit, but I had freehanded alchemical symbols all over him, didn't want to risk ruining them...

Rear view, with more symbols (http://lh3.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/THkem43eVGI/AAAAAAAAAUE/8tw1RYQ78o0/s800/Magos5.JPG). Side View with hand flamer (http://lh5.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/THkenv4l2bI/AAAAAAAAAUI/uQ7iuzMk9XU/s800/Magos6.JPG). Tentacle Eye Is Watching You (http://lh4.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/THkenzf3vTI/AAAAAAAAAUM/Te6oke3KUxw/s800/OpticalMech2.JPG). Portrait Shot (http://lh5.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/THkeoSmi6NI/AAAAAAAAAUQ/ND2XoiQ6Tr4/s800/MagosFaceClose2.JPG). And the Secondary Brain Container (http://lh4.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/THkeogF41nI/AAAAAAAAAUU/cgV3d8OYqPI/s800/BrainBall1.JPG).

I'm pleased with most of it, but the Brain Container could do with quite a bit of work... But for now, I'll leave it, as I seem to be simultaneously working on... 7 models, with about that many more waiting to be seen.

Very cool! Though does look a little like he's falling over slowly :P I like the blue orb thing in particular.

Look forward tot he rest reaching fruition :)

I like this guy.  It's always nice to se a mechanicus with an individual look about him/her.  He is kinda falling forwards, but I think the slightly unnatural gait adds to the vibe of the model overall.

Nice work on the greyman's beard and the freehand on the marine, too.

Post by: Flinty on August 31, 2010, 08:55:08 AM
Nah, I like the hunched/lurching gait implied in the Magos, very nice. Well done on the free hand, I particularly like the winged staff wielding figure - although I am disapointed to see that the original text on the Grey Man has gone. He appeared to be wearing a green apron with ''sale'' written on it. I have a suspicion that there is no escape from the horror of golf sale advertising the the grimdark pro-celebrity future...ahhhhhhhhhhhgggg.

(sorry, I have a particulary aversion/hatred of f**kin' golf)
Title: Re: Dapper's WIP
Post by: DapperAnarchist on August 31, 2010, 12:57:50 PM
Ha! The "sale" bit is from the foil I tried using to make his coat. Now the coat is a solid piece more like the standard model coat. Trying for a more military look to it, but mid-1800s military.

However, as I am moving in a week or so, I'm gonna have to take a break from it. Thankfully, I got one model finished, and more progressed on. When I get to a house in which I am actually able to stop, I'll get them out again. Plan is to finish painting Kalanode (who has sort of base coats all over in red and bone and metal), and finish sculpting the Grey Man, then paint him - probably gonna buy some Adeptus Battlegrey, partly because I'm going to use it on some repainting on the Marine Scout. But that will all be... a while away.

Back! With pictures of my latest model, "Uzziah Nagure, Pariah Agent", plus a rather bad picture of a motor bike I've built... Nagure is still in WIP, going to rework his coat a bit and do detailing on his weapon and highlights on his head.

The motorbike has actually broken a bit, the front wheel come off. Should be easily fixed.

And here are some completed models, with manipulated backgrounds... I started playing around with GIMP, found some free fire backgrounds and guides on making star backgrounds (which I was able to use to make the reddish smoke in the last one)

This is my Rogue Trader character, Caderyn Remiel. It was the first one I made, so it's a bit off.

Prince Meallan, Scourge of the Seven Ariepate Systems. I left the stars as more of a smudge on this, though the angle is all kinds of wrong...

Gorynych Delta, Skittari Bodyguard, made mostly from a Halo Spartan miniature and bits from Epic models. The lighting was terrible, but the angle worked out better.

Was the Spartan mini 54mm? And if so, please could you link to where I could buy one?

You have managed to capture the random/mechanical movement really well in my opinion*. Mine just has more of a posed threatening look.

*Love the pose.

The Spartan was a ~54mm action figure - came in a box of three, I bought it in Forbidden Planet Dublin. They're good models, think it was PO who brought them to my attention in a post here.

Two more WIP models, both improvements/modifications to existing models

This is my Grey Slayer Scout. His other arm is going to be reaching behind him to grab a grenade, I'm going for a sort of hunter-ish look, as well as the obvious medieval look, with the helmet and the painted chestplate. I'm worried I'll end up painting over it when I come to do it properly, so I may have to just re-do it at some point...

I've heavily re-worked my female Guard NCO, Sergeant Darendi - complete redo of the armour and legs, and an overhaul of the pouches on the belt, including adding a bit of Blanche-esque brutality in the form of the severed head from the Ork Boyz sprue. Should move on to painting her soon.

Here's a shot of Inquisitor Cass... So far, I've made three models of this guy, and am now on the second version of the right arm of this one model...

You put a lot of love into these models and it really shows.  If I may offer up a critique (as someone also getting more adventurous with sculpting), you should try putting the legs in more dramatic poses.  There isn't anything necessarily wrong with having the character standing at ease, but it lacks drama and is an easy way to make a character seem a little more exciting.

Post by: DapperAnarchist on January 26, 2011, 02:19:48 PM
Not sure when I'll next be sculpting legs, but I will be trying a different pose - considering a crouching Astartes in a big Bedouin style robe. Darendi is a very static model, but Cass is enlivened by the other arm, a bit...

Right hand side (http://lh3.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/TUAsUb9JnSI/AAAAAAAAAf8/ZrgMxbPL1OA/s800/KalanodeCompleteRight.JPG)

This is my Renegade/Radical Inquisitor, Lady Kalanode. Personally, I'm rather pleased with the freehand - its something I've been trying to improve a lot over the last while.

not bad, could maybe do with a wash or two to give it some weathering/a more natural look, but I'm sure that freehand is better than I could manage - just haven't got the patience and I dislike painting.

Give freehand a go! Its a lot more fun than basecoating and highlighting, I find, as you get a really quick turnaround on the "cool!" factor.

Some more "huh, you know what, that could be a lot better" work, this time on Archmagos Halik, Master of the Guild Thuban

Front (http://lh4.ggpht.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/TUcjK4ih2iI/AAAAAAAAAiY/bB5L2HE4axM/s800/DSC00384.JPG)

However, this pic is shockingly inaccurate, like sending a twenty year old picture before going on a blind date. The rifle is now a plasma gun, he's got a lot more tentacles with some ends attached, and a Haemonculyte familiar stuck on his back, looking quite freaky. He's going to get a lot of freehand tattooing, I think

I like the idea of the bloated mass of flesh stretched around too many bionics inside - something a bit different to the oft-skeletal appearance of admech characters.

Yeah, I realised that 1) it totally suited the malicious, uncaring, slightly lovecraftian personality of this character and 2) I hadn't really seen anyone do that piece of kit before...
That's what it looks like now. Mutated and horrible, just from consuming Halik's poisons. It will be pretty grotesque in painting.

I love your use of clockwork parts, they give everything a subtle steam-punky feel. Now I just know you explained this to someone a while back, but I can't for the life of me find it or remember it - where do you get so many cogs and sods? I really like your fleshy mechanicus creation, but I can't help feeling that a light basting of some red and green washes might really make it special.
Title: Re: Dapper's WIP Models/Completed Photomanips - C&C Please?

Halik is getting a total repaint - tonight or tomorrow I'll base coat him again, Charadon for the metallics and Iyaden for the fleshy bits.

The clock parts come from a broken mantelpiece clock (much like this (http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/wi/windsor-anniversary-mantel-clock-with-alarm.jpg)) that I found in a skip opposite my old house. Sadly, I'm starting to run low, and may have to look further afield. Going to ask in jewellers what happens to broken cogs. Think I explained that on the previous 'Clave, its ages ago I found them.

Fleshy horrors are really easy to make! a ball of cheap putty (Milliput Grey-Green is good for this), then glue on whatever bionics you want, then a layer of better putty to make the skin and the folds of fat.

Some more WIP, this time of Lord Inquisitor Cass

Another rear shot (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/TUyQBish3TI/AAAAAAAAAj8/lHkvb0yfJ2o/s800/DSC00399.JPG)

Another use of the cogs - think it really suits this one. The long one is from the clock, but the small, nearly invisible one at the front, and the one tucked under the long one, are from a 1/35 tank kit.

I love the steampunk vibe to these guys. Cass is a really characterful looking Inquisitor with his long white beard. Nice work!

Would raising the cherub behind Cass be at all possible? From what I can see in the different angles he looks really cool but its a shame to hide him.

And I have to echo axiom, the ambience of steampunk is pure awsome (with some special loving for the bases)

I'm back...

The Cherub ended up being raised up a bit, but I haven't taken any photos of it... perhaps once I paint over the missing bit on his robe.

Here's my most recent model, a Khorne cultist called The Runtkiller. Idea behind him is he was an armsman or similar on an Imperial vessel, who heard the call of blood and now roams the spacelanes as a blood-soaked myth and horror...

Left Side (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/TXzyns_6ncI/AAAAAAAAAm8/mPbMB_aDXQE/s800/DSC00450.JPG)

And three photos I rather like of him

Here's the shield - the Khorne symbol needs a touch up. It's from the margins of the Liber Chaotica, thought I'd go for something a little different.

Here's his feet - my first attempt sculpting them, think they came out good, if a little pudgy - might make the non-bloodied parts look bruised.

And a face close up. Do people think a glowing eyeslot would be a good idea? And glowing what colour? Red would disappear among the rest of the red, but what about pure white, as if he's burning on the inside?

But that's not all I've been working on - this is my latest terrain piece, a Warhound head sitting on the ground. Either the 'Hound has been destroyed, on a battlefield, or it's in repairs - perhaps the head needs to be removed to get the Princeps out, as I've left no space for a door! It's not quite finished, the purity seal on the left side needs a wax seal.

Love it, I had an idea for a similar character a couple of years ago. Never got round to him/her/it sadly!

Are you a Doctor Who fan? The helmet (and the burning) reminded me of 42 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/episodes/2007/307.shtml).

42 is exactly why I kinda want to make it glow through the eye slot - that, and I can then give him Gaze of Death or a counts-as melta pistol on his face. Think I will... Having made a Khornate character, next up is a Nurgle one, with a face like this (http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs51/f/2009/301/b/f/Call_of_Cthulhu__Beings_of_Ib_by_Cryptcrawler.jpg), a ruff similar to this one, on the left (http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x221/phiq/blanchered.jpg), and swollen sores made using peppercorns...

Having just finished these off, with some minor paint touch ups and some repair work, I thought I'd offer them up.

Here's my female Inquisitor, Danijela Kolab. Originally equipped with a revolver and autopistol, I robbed the autopistol for Cass, and gave her a Power Falchion and a new bionic arm.

The runt killer made me think of Boussh the bounty hunter (http://www.nasm.si.edu/exhibitions/starwars/images/BookImages/leia1.jpg).  And - on that topic - I've not seen the Breen before, but how much do they look like Boussh/Leia?

I like your thinking on this Nurgley character, but that ruff needs to be a lot finer and tighter.  Take a scalpel to the details on the jacket, too, to sharpen them up.

Right, the Nurgle cultist has had a major overhaul -

Side view (https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/TcW_GGEUKRI/AAAAAAAAAsQ/GoJcpWgoUwA/s800/DSC00544.JPG)

He'll have one arm with a flamer/chemsprayer type weapon, the other skeletal, but his legs will now be beastman-style ones, to fit with his antler things.

And I have recently started on a Tzeentch Magus, built mostly from Spawn parts.

He'll have a mask similar to one from the Chaos Warriors set, with several eyes protruding through, plus long robes and lots of trinkets, trophies, and gewgaws hanging from it. I'll also build him some daemonic familiars to run around with.

Keep it up!

Very interesting Nurgle character, do you have any plans for a warband for him, is he going to be a lone character or do you just like the modelling opportunity? Am I seeing the beginnings of a gas mask or is it some kind of mutation, a snout maybe?

I've actually been fiddling with some ideas for a Nurgle warband, might put up a thread with my initial ideas and might write up some background if anyone is interested.

Between the Runtkiller (the Khorne cultist), the Nurgle cultist (which my girlfriend thinks is cute), the Tzeentch Magos, and a planned Slaanesh cultist, I have a plan for one follower of each god. The rest of the Spawn box will be used to make mutants to accompany my Word Bearer...

It is indeed a gas mask, with antlers sticking out through the leather.

So, the Magus has the blocked out beginnings of robes, plus arms, and an expanded head. The lumpyness is from an attempt to make a face covered in eyes from the Spawn box eyes - but they are far too big. So I'm about to remake it, with just sunken pits in the metal mask, rather than eyes protruding through. The smaller hand will be holding some sort of staff, while the large clawed one is going to have some sort of magical halo attached, made from a running gear trimmed from a tank kit.

Great zoats! That things looks fearsome! I can see how it took so long to build!

The magos staff is excellent, but I think I actually prefer the torn up face, I think because the mask is so soft compared tot he jagged and angular nature of the rest of the model.

Still, great work :)

You weren't kidding about the Zoat.  That thing looks absolutely incredible.  He has a very noble look about him, overall I love the interpretation.

I like the magos as well and though I was initially inclined to go with Shannow on this one I have to say that you convinced me with the more shots here.  I like the bolted on look you give to the mask and all the holes give the suggestion that perhaps each hole has an eye behind it (this being Tzeentch).

Also, I absolutely love the nozzle coming out of the extra arm hole on his left side.  I don't know why, but it just looks great.  Maybe he drains magical fluid out of it, who knows!

That zoat is brilliant, he's enormous. Could you give a close up shot of the face? I wonder how it looks like. A great model.

Tha magus' pose is great as well. Really dominating and creepy. The mask could however do with some more detail.

A bare chested Traitor Marine. However, he needs, among other things, to be chopped off at the knees and started over. His knees are about two thirds down the leg right now, and if I stretched out the calf, he'd be way way way too big. Like nearly as big as my Zoat big.

The nurgle guy just keeps looking better and better.

About the bare-chested chaos marine, he looks very nice but how are you going to do the powering of his armour?

Post by: DapperAnarchist on May 23, 2011, 12:48:46 PM
Not sure - he may just have to drag it around! He's gonna be an Emperor's Children Marine (or some other Slaaneshi marine) and so sanity is not on the upper end of his requirements. The lack of a chest piece will be partly explained by the mutations that will sprout from his back (just more from the spawn kit, nothing particularly fancy)

I'm looking for some advice now - how would I got about sculpting a skeletal hand? one to hang loose.

I've tried my hand at this (hahahahah pun) and my best results, though I can't find them , have come off using superglued together bits of paper clips, I found that they were stiff enough to give a very small coat of GS without them falling apart and then just lightly blobbing up where the joints were.

Also loving the bare chested guy, any chance of shots from other positions?

Two more bits of WIP - an almost finished Nurgle cultist (named Dhul-Karnain) and a much advanced Slaanesh marine (though its less visible with the marine).

Things left to do - finish his hand, and decide what to do with the groin - leave it, add a loincloth, or what?

More (https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/Td1XSeEOlbI/AAAAAAAAAw0/qRDx4tvI1Q4/s800/DSC00585.JPG) Pics (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/Td1XULMd4SI/AAAAAAAAAw4/CcvOUTdITI4/s800/DSC00586.JPG) Here (https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/Td1XVftbXnI/AAAAAAAAAw8/GCOIFIbwpwo/s800/DSC00587.JPG)

Here's the marine (still totally nameless). Also complete are his arms (yet to be glued in) and various mutations sprouting from his skin. He'll also get decorative bits - leather straps, studs, that sort of thing. The legs have been shortened since the last picture, as they were way too long in the thigh.

A quick parts rundown - the chest is from the Spawn box, the head is an Artemis I had left over that I hacked at ages ago as an experiment (I considered doing a Salamander looking like that), the legs are putty and two Forge World searchlights.

And the (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/Td1XYvTEx_I/AAAAAAAAAxI/9KxNVlfD43I/s800/DSC00591.JPG) rest (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_a2iANP0F1jg/Td1XZ0wqBYI/AAAAAAAAAxM/sd_K3hWTT2Y/s800/DSC00592.JPG).

I vote loincloth personally, but think its will look fantastic whatever, very very unique imagery I think.

The marine looks a lot better now, just a bit more fully formed and reckon it will be fantastic. I've always been a fan of slannesh :P

That nurgle cultist is great, seriously good model. I love how unique but yet totally characterful it is. I'm going with Shannow on this one, a loin cloth would look good there.

Looking forward to seeing the Marine in all his glory now...

COMPLETION! This is what happens when you don't eat dinner until 10.30...

His skeleton hand has 5 crude fingers on it, and a loincloth. The only thing I might do is fill it bits round the collar of the jacket.

And here's the Slaaneshi marine :D

He's been reposed a little bit, to correct his lean. The sword thing is from a Dark Age miniature. And yes, he's carrying a Splinter weapon - whether I'll count it as a pistol or some kind of carbine, I'm not sure. Probably pistol. Speaking of which, that's the second weapon I used. The first was put under a halogen lamp to help the putty in the elbow cure, and this happened -
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-hJSMLmQhhMs/Td2Tzl5CNVI/AAAAAAAAAyE/5ZPBfg2WfJo/s400/DSC00603.JPG)

Rest of the pics - 1 (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-AgTbtEx2q20/Td2Tr_o7inI/AAAAAAAAAxs/erZENWWk8d0/s800/DSC00596.JPG) 2 (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kmBlLhaJkis/Td2Ts1N-tqI/AAAAAAAAAxw/xxFUEV5HcQM/s800/DSC00597.JPG) 3 (https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-jCA9XYMonJo/Td2Tt82VbSI/AAAAAAAAAx0/C8kaUtWKp08/s800/DSC00598.JPG) 4 (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-r0VqD2146ac/Td2Tua0th6I/AAAAAAAAAx4/FSa9xixzir4/s800/DSC00599.JPG)

Next up is some feral mutants, and a Slaanesh cultist to complete the four cultists (The Slaaneshi marine was a interruption). Paint isn't for a while, I have a paint marathon planned.

Thanks for the  lesson about halogen lamps. I will keep that in mind.

The Nurgle guy is great, really creepy while retaining something funny.

The Marine looks great, even though the parts are from different sources you made fit them well together.

Is that Nurgle cultist wearing a ruff?

Other than that, I echo Trasher - a belt with some pouches would help the loin cloth, and that flamer does need it's tanks elsewhere. On the back would be good, especially with some rotting leather straps to support it there.

I think that the plastic bent because its from the original Dark Eldar frame in the 3rd Edition box... the newer plastic never has that problem.

The hooves are smaller than feet, but thats partly because hooves are smaller than feet! They may be too small, but hooves are really a quadruped thing, and most quadruped mammals have small surface area to their feet - in part because the ankle extends upwards.

I can't actually separate the canisters, as they're a single piece - And its a Chemsprayer, not a flamer :D So sudden promethium explosions are unlikely.

A belt is possible, though...

And for the three or seven, he's got three large pustules on his swollen belly for a reason! And they'll be picked out in a bright colour (yellow most likely) if I paint him dark and rotten, or a dark colour (a purple perhaps) if I go for pale and sickly.

And yeah, its a ruff. Inspired entirely by one of John Blanche's Chaos Marines, featured in the Blanchitsu that was put on the White Dwarf Archive a little while ago.

One feral mutant is already built, using only the spawn box - another is WIP. Now for some requests - I need some inspiration for Slaanesh stuff. I need names for both the Slaanesh marine and my upcoming Slaanesh cultist, and ideas for how to make the cultist look. I'm thinking some sort of depraved toad thing might work. I kind of want to steer away from the slender beauties with crab claws and leather a bit, and go for something more repulsive...

In terms of a creepy cultist, could go for a pregnant woman with a weird kind of face coming out of stomach and a lizardy head with a long lolling tongue,, maybe reptile hands too

EVEN MORE!!!!

I have a design drawn up for the Slaanesh cultist, based in part on what parts I have, plus ideas robbed from someone on Warseer and Alyster Wick (you'll see which one when I do it! No spoilers).

But I have the head done already. A seriously chopped up Damien head, a tentacle from the spawn box, some pins and some putty -

Needs some gapfilling, but that can come later...

Really delayed response - He's off centre to make space for the stuff on the base! And because I was silly...

So, here is a shot of most (not quite everything - my Ordo Xenos Guardian is missing) that I intend to paint over the next few weeks. Within an hour or two I hope to have sprayed the lot, and so be able to start whenever.

After these, there is more - a couple other terrain bits, the barge, a motorbike that appeared earlier in the thread, and I have the beginning stages of 1) A Necron Lord, 2) a "nobleganger", and 3) a pair of Eldar on a scenic base. Also, I have plans for a Techspirant - a Space Marine in training to be a Techmarine. So, lots!

+++EDIT+++

And here they are all sprayed up...

Double Post! Thought I'd make this separate, as its a model. The first one, the Nurgle Cultist Dhul Kharnain, is almost done. More highlights, more detail, and the base, then he's done. My intent here was to paint a nurgle character without a single bit of green - I didn't even use Rotting Flesh.

The skin is worked up from Iyaden Darksun (my favourite basecoat right now - good for skin, light colours, gold, brass, some browns, its great), with various thin coats of Bleached Bone, Elf Flesh, and Skull White, with two thick washes of Devlan over it.

The rust is boltgun, devlan wash, scab red drybrush, snakebite drybrush, boltgun light drybrush, and another devlan wash (Devlan is very important here!)

The pustules are meant to resemble the Black Death -what more nurgley disease could there be? The larger ones are currently a bit dark and need to be picked out in red, to make them look swollen... perhaps with yellowy-white in the middle, for some infection-horror.

Looking good there, really loving how your cultists are very non-traditional. There are many sides to the Gods after all...

Particularly excited for your toady slaneesh guy.

As for the nurgley fellow, great work! He's really coming together nicely. I may steal that rust procedure as the results came out very well for you. Hopefully I can build off your momentum and actually paint something...

The Slaanesh guy ended up more... insectile, than toady. You'll see him/her soon.

Here's the finished Nurgle Cultist.

The base is covered in insect eggs, made out of poppy seeds, much like the pustules on Dhul's chest. The larger ones I've decided contain the feared Keltani Bloodworm, a predatory maggot like thing...

I'll post some almost complete Magus shots soon. He needs touching up, but has come together very quickly.

DapperAnarchist's guide to painting!

1) Learn to love Devlan Mud. It's the best. It's much like close air support - it covereth a multitude of sins.

2) Accept that to get the depth of colour without clogging the model, you will have to paint more than one layer of each colour.

3) Think harder about colour choice.

4) Really, really love Devlan Mud.

Rear freehand (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-R5Gg4LexFds/ThNsNxaRwjI/AAAAAAAAA2s/Uzn49L0Jzi4/s800/DSC00641.JPG)

The freehand has been worked on a bit since then the book too, and the base. He's actually nearly done. Given that Belhinos, my psychic inquisitor, is also nearly done (photos in the morning), this is going quite fast. While the previous model was an attempt to paint a Nurgle Cultist without green, this is an attempt to paint a model so that you can see the psychic/sorcerous powers - hence the white hand, and the crude glowing effect on the base.

Two models to post today - the completed, pre-varnishing Magus, Zoth-zsar, and the mostly completed Inquistor, Belhinos.

Zoth-zsar first

The book has been changed to be more ordinary, and free hands have been touched up, there's been some more highlighting, and the glow effect on the base has been made stronger.

Here's a shot of his "magic arm"

I didn't want him to be just gesturing, but for the power he's summoning up to be visible.

Yes, the interior of her cloak is gold.  I wanted to give the impression that, as an Inquisitor, she is a Very Very Important Person - specifically, More Important Than You. The outside of the cloak, and most of her clothing, is a plain dark grey, which harks back to the character's time in an Adeptus Astra Telepathica training school.

And the Daemonhost is finished. I've been working on this model in various forms for about... 3 or 4 years now. I think I can now stop, it's finished.

This Spawn head is one of my favourites, actually - Lovecraftian and disturbing, equally suited to Undivided, Nurgle, Tzeentch or Slaanesh. Here you can also see the binding marks - based, roughly, on mystic sigils.

He's also in a binding circle. The circle itself is based on Alchemical symbols, such as the symbol of Chaos or Void.

I added an Imperial Eagle and some writing.

He also has the Sigil of Glasya Labolas on the rear loincloth - the front one has the Inquisition I. This is a rough version of the "actual" sigil of Glasya Labolas, found in Enochian or Goetic magic.

I'm absolutely in love with your Nurgle cultist; it's fantastic! The sprayer looks a little heavy for his wasted arms, but I guess he's probably infused with rigor mortis strength. The palette is a brilliant change from the standard green. Not many diseases make you go green anyway. But red, black and brown, yes.

Definitely worth the wait on the daemonhost. The dull eye reminds me of an elephant skull.

When painting, I decide that the pustules should be blackish grey... because what disease is more Nurglish than the Black Death?

Here's two more - a completed Slaaneshi Marine, and the King of Limbs, my Slaanesh cultist, who, though finished for now, I'm not that happy with. His torso is too plain I think...

Slaaneshi Marine first - need a name for him, as it happens!

Great models!

The marine looks especially menacing, and the 'King of Limbs' vagely reminds me of something I whipped up (http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x378/Doc_Vermin/SroKtchChriek.jpg) for my younger brothers' Inq. Chaos cult back when he used to play.

As for a name for your Chaos marine perhaps something biblical? 'Paradise Lost' also contains a lot of suitable sounding names; Moloch, Chemos, Baalim, Thammuz, Vallombrosa, Gehenna and Horonaim to name but a few (alright, so some of those are place-names, but they still sound about right to me).

Then you just need to give him a nice, Slaaneshi-sounding ajective to follow such as 'the obscene', 'the grotesque', the exquisite' ect.

Well since your topless marine is an Emperor's Children I guess I'll have to make mine a World Eater :P

Seriously though, good job. The vestigial wings are a nice touch. I'll also echo Goldeneye's comments about names through and through (especially the end part about adding "the obscene" etc). Perhaps for the scars you could give the some texture as well using GS or even just scouring the skin with a hobby knife?

The daemonhost and tzeentch cultist as looking good too. Your experiments with shading and tattoos are inspiring, I have to turn up my free hand game (that is after I start painting again period). Just looked down at your daemonhost again, I really, reallly like the whole Cthulu vibe. Also need to remember to use alchemical texts for inspiration.

The King of Limbs has a great name but I think you're right about it needing some retooling. Compared to the rest of your cultists (and models in general) it just looks a little rushed and thrown together. I'd keep the legs as is but go back to the drawing board with the rest of it. Don't want to sound overly harsh, but you're clearly capable of doing some great stuff and I love the concept.

There can be more than one bare-chested Emperor's Child out there! And the name, he's now Baalim the Obscene. I might go back and do something 3d with the whip marks, but they're not supposed to have cut the skin... Though perhaps they should have!

The King of Limbs will be ripped apart next week... oh well. :P

I've made some terrain! Here's the first two - the third one needs some last details.

Simultaneous triple-post/threadomancy! Go team Dapper! I've been working on a lot of things - some mutants based on Rat Ogres, an unbound Daemonhost based on the spawn kit, a Vanus Assassin, some Rogue Tradery stuff, and finished painting two mercenaries and a Zoat. However, I don't have photos of those. No, instead I have photos of something a bit different. I have turned apostate, and begun a INQ28 warband.

They're made mostly from the slavedrivers from the Rat Ogre/Giant Rats Skaven set (bought for the rats, but I use everything :D ). My inaugural 28mm warband is a Dark Mechanicus Abduction Squad, with these representing the twist-slaves who form the disposable part. I also have plans for their boss,  a "Meister", and for his boss, a Dark Magos. The Dark Magos I'm really looking forward to - I think its quite an inventive idea. I hope...

I'm not usually that interested in INQ.28, but I do look forward to seeing what you come up with for your Dark Magos.

Also, I just noticed that in your 'dead tree' post, you say that the cards are thin, painted plasticard. Did you really paint those tiny, Inquisitor-scale cards by hand? They look great! You have a considerably higher tolerance for fiddlyness than I do!

I painted the basic colours all at a go, before cutting them, then used a micropen to make the details. Not that hard. Micropens are great!

A lot of work, particularly huge amount of sculpting tentacles to be done. The Rogue Trader is going to have his face Blanche-ised, and the Daemon is going to be mostly tentacles, a bit like those seen on the large Spore Mines from Forge World, but 1)denser and 2) not as well done.

Mind you, what else can one expect from a Slaaneshi cult?

Also, the Viking-y Rogue Trader looks interesting; are those thighs (or shins or fore-arms or whatever) from a 'Halo' miniature?
Title: Re: Dapper's WIP Models - Now with INQ28!

DEEPLY delayed response - I moved to Bristol, started a PhD, and all sorts of things various associated with that...

So...

Goldeneye - they are Halo thighs, but are not being used on Inquisitor Cass Mark V. Or will be. The Trader is a bit developed, but not much. The Daemonhost is abandoned, as it wasn't really working, but the parts will find their place elsewhere, like a very tall Magos...

Here's the complete versions of my first three Inq28 models, Dark Mechanicus Twist-slaves. In a few months I'll build their leader, then eventually his boss too. Later on tonight I might doublepost with a completed Pariah Agent, Sicarius Assassin, and some WIP shots of mutants and the RT.

Very nice and creepy models. They certainly look the part. I would  have gone for darker robes because somehow I think that they would help the models look more defined. But that could just be my colourblindness.
Title: Re: Dapper's WIP Models - Now with INQ28!

They do lack some definition... I might 1) shadow the undersides of the robes, 2) add some trim, and 3) bruise up the visible skin, especially as they have steel rods forcibly inserted into their leg stumps... The pale robes are to give them a more medical look.

So, here's my Pariah Agent, Acolyte-Representative Uzziah Nagure, and his Servoskull body guard.

Here's my new Trader's bodyguard, wearing a Lacrymole skull as a hat... He's in two pieces, as you can see. On his belt, as well as the daggers, he has a wrapped up dead rat (his lunch, I guess) and a bundle of bones on a string.

Some of those models look really strange, in a good way. The pariah looks very good, mysterieus and also like an agent.
The sicarius assassin looks weird in a very unexpected way, but it is nice. The trader's bodyguard is really great, I wish I was capable of making models like that.

I see your 28mm works turned out nicely, then. Sorry to hear the 'spawn didn't do so well.

Also, I like the bodygaurd with the skull hat; what legs are those you're using for him?

Oh, and one other thing while I think of it: Volo & Veres; are those latin for something? I tried looking them up on an internet translator and found that 'volo' can mean to fly or move swiftly, but I didn't find any likely translations for 'veres'.

I just wondered if you were going for the old, 60s Batman thing of henchmen with matching/ themed names.
Title: Re: Dapper's WIP Models - Now with INQ28!
Post by: DapperAnarchist on February 10, 2012, 10:14:46 PM
Goldeneye - According to one latin translator, Veres means Strength. Volo, the man, is faster, but Veres, the woman, is stronger. Volo also carries faster firing weapons (two hand cannons) while Veres goes for brute power, with a combat shotgun. And yeah, they were definitely inspired by the matched pair style of various minor comic book bad guys, especially the ones who hung around with the bigger villains - I'm sure Two Face had a pair of sidekicks like that, and I think Black Mask's Falsefacers gang had some like that.

The bodyguard's legs are from a Dark Age mini, a pair of mutated warriors with implanted swords and shields. A sword has been used on Baalim, a shield on the Khorne cultist, Runtkiller, the head on the mutant with the bionic leg, and the body is waiting for more work to turn it in to a feral child.

Dolnikan - Thanks, the Pariah is the third incarnation of that basic model. First it was an Inquisitor, then with the same model a ship's captain for a religious order, then a different model for the first version of the Pariah Agent,  and then I decided to make him weirder with the flat mask and the asymmetrical bionc arm. I might repaint some of the Tron-style light tracks on the Assassin, perhaps go for swirls and whorls of light, rather than the straight up Tron style, though it would easy to ruin that. The head is about as good as I could expect it to be. And as for making models like the bodyguard - look at lots of Blanche art, I guess? Thats what inspired hiim. That, and the model that appeared here of a big game hunter wearing a Krootoid of somekind as a hat.

I should have more to post in a few hours, just finished touching up Baalim the Obscene, more detail on the painting, and a better bit of chest-whipping. I'm also going to try and advance on Inquisitor Adelmar, as he's the next closest to done, then perhaps the Tzeentch Sorceror, as his staff has been improved and needs painting... However, I really should be reading Lyell and Kripke, so perhaps not...

The Pariah is made from a 1/35 Nazi Officer model, no idea where from, I got in a box of military miniatures I picked up while volunteering for Oxfam - they're not allowed to sell military stuff, so anything that comes in is sold cheap to the staff.

Here's the completed Baalim the Obscene. I'm quite pleased.

I thought I posted something here but apparently it got lost to the whims of the interwebs...

Anyway, trying to recreate it quickly. I like the changes you made to Baalim, the little details went a long way. Not 100% sure what's going on with his right hand (is he holding a bizarre knife or does he have blades fused into his hands?) but in either event I like it.

You might want to consider redoing the mouth on Adelmar. I love the idea of using the Damien head for non-acroflaggelant characters but with the wide open mouth it just makes him look like a frothing loon (although if he is a frothing loon then it's a good look, though a little unhinged for an Inquisitor). Backing up the idea is the great work you're doing on your Rogue Trader's head. You're definitely pushing your sculpting limits and I like the results so far, why not try your hand mucking about with Damien's head? If you don't like the results PM me as I have at least two Damien heads lying around I'd be happy to trade for if you need an extra.

The Crusader is interesting (good use of the halo helmet if I'm spotting it correctly) and I like the idea of a crusader with a flaming hair do (although it's possible from the perspective that the fire comes from a backpack and not his head). I would mention though that his proportions look a bit off, almost as though he's lacking organic curves to his body. Not sure if he's just too skinny or what. Anyway, I'm sure Marco has more insight into how it is anatomically incorrect and how to fix it. It isn't bad per say, there's just something a little off about the figure.

Last but not least that has to be my favorite 54mm take on a Hrud I've seen. I may be stealing that look. He really looks like a character from A Nightmare Before Christmas and I love that about him. Since we're on Hrud, I was wondering if anyone has a definitive picture of one? There was a bit floating around that had an unclothed Hrud looking more like a lanky pseudo-crustation with bug eyes and strange mandibles but I didn't know if it was speculated to be a Hrud or established canonically as one. In either event, in the absence of a definitive "look" for the Hrud beyond knowing they like to cloak themselves and remain hidden I am going to defer to your take on them.

There's a picture of a dissected decomposing hrud corpse in Xenology - is that the one you mean?

I sort of ignored the Xenology pic when I came back to my Hrud (partly as being too difficult) and went for two things - one, going back to the original source in my much beloved 3rd Ed. Rulebook, and getting away from the rodentine style.

His right hand is indeed a sword, from a Dark Age mini - same as the legs from the Bodyguard.

Adelmar is supposed to be a bit mad, and desperate, he's on the run, trying to escape his guilt, but he can't, as the guilt is the Daemonhost he has made... Over time I may try and make him look more and more ragged, resculpt the knees, the elbows, add patches to his clothing, a bit like how Lichenstein and his crowd developed over time.

The Crusader indeed uses a Master Chief style helmet - I have used another one for some power armour, but a different style, and another is awaiting a use... It is attached to his backpack, not his head. The proportions are probably a bit off, but I'll justify it with the armour.... That, and I've lost a bit of my enthusiasm for this model, so I'll probably just try and get it done.

Not to devolve, but the one I was referring to is the first one here (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Hrud#.TzyDWfmwUYp) in the upper right hand corner of the Lexicanum article. I do believe the one you're referring to Kaled is lower down in the article to the left. While that one is delightfully ambiguous something about the first photo just rubs me the wrong way for what I picture Hrud to look like. I do rather prefer Dapper's version.

Huh, I'd forgotten about that picture. I don't have the book in front of me right now, but I think the picture you refer to is an artists impression of the hrud based on the decomposed corpse and without it's covering of rags etc. I'd say that it's canonical in so far as it's a true impression of what a Biologis tech-priest thinks a hrud looks like, but given the difficulties in observing them while alive and the fact that their bodies decompose and liquefy rapidly when they die, it may not be an entirely accurate picture.

But back to the models, I agree that the hrud is very nice and makes me tempted to try building one of my own. The Baalim model is excellent, I especially like his face - very scary.

Updates! Incomplete updates, because I forgot to take photos of my Slaanesh cultist. Perhaps tomorrow.

Firstly, my Harlequin is nearly finished. She just needs a sort of chain of grenades at her side, for her hallucinogenic grenades.

Hopefully the hands will blend in better with paint. The pose is intentionally weird, she's a dancer who has totally dedicated her life to dance from a race who can dedicate themselves to stuff so well they created a god and ripped a hole in reality, she dances in ways that are impossible.

One of my mutants is finished, just needs a base now.

He's very blue, I know - I wanted to go back to the weird skin colours that the Studio produced for some characters in the original run, like the other Arcoflagellant. Another mutant will probably be sort of reddish, and the last a more natural brown.

And the bodyguard is being painted. Somehow, despite having two lights on him, the photos came out impenetrably dark... He's got grey, almost black skin, and steel armour, and dark green loincloth, so dark colours a thing for him.

Bits are going to be painted over again, as plans change.

I like the pose on the harlequin, it is dynamic and strange, which I think fits well. I like the blue on the mutant as well, it makes it seem much weirder than when it would have had a more normal skin colour.

I do wonder if that deep blue is going to get your mutant mistaken for a daemon. A flesh tone - even an unhealthy flesh tone - will help suggest a marginally human origin. An inhuman flesh tone with an inhuman shape... well, there's nothing to give away the lost humanity.

I deliberately kept natural (if unusual) flesh tones when designing Jax Lynn for a similar reason. Because she doesn't have any total malformation (other than having a tail, everything else is in the right place. Being almost human, but recognisably not, is a big theme of the character), an unnatural flesh tone could have fallen foul of the common trope of humanoid (or near-humanoid) aliens.
So I went with mottled albinism - human, but a further hint at mutation.

While Chaos related mutations certainly have some justifications for some weirder colours (another reason I avoided odd colours for Jax, as her mutations are not the taint of Chaos), I'd recommend that with your other mutants, you keep at least some human tones in there to have them retain the merest scrap of humanity.
That could be by having a more subtle change of colour (Simeon wasn't such a strong blue) or by perhaps keeping part of them retaining a human tone. A single flesh coloured arm would strengthen the appearance of mutation over daemonhood.

Well, they are chaos mutants, not twists or abnormali or hive scum. They're going to be relatively anonymous muscle for my chaos-related characters, such as the two Traitor Marines, the renegade Inquisitor, or the four cultists. But I might try and make it a little more natural, use some washes to move it from the purple-blue to the grey-blue, more like Simeon's skin.

And the completed ones!

I like your new Adeptus Mechanicus figure, and your weelchair character intrigues me, what torso is that you're using?

Also, this latest incarnation of the King of Limbs is a considerable improvement on the old one; nothing says 'unabashed hedonism' like a big, fat stomach! Will we be reading about him in your 'Order of Liars' thread any time soon, or is the Slaaneshee character to whom you've alluded someone else?

Oh, and I like the, what I can only assume to be a headshot of Cthulu you've used as a base for photgraphing your models; very Chaotic and tentacle-y!

Going on a conclave binge (it's been far too long).

Have to echo the love for the Lord of Limbs. It was an interesting concept initially and you've really upped the ante with this new incarnation. The delicate veil contrasts wonderfully with the massive gut and spindly legs. Lives up to his name.

Love the daemon weapon as well on your female inquisitor...may have to steal that at some point. Really just brilliant idea, can't believe it never crossed my mind. Great reminder that you can always combine the same old parts in different ways.

Big fan of the AdMech as well, I love featureless masks and robes covering impossibly proportioned figures. Reminds me of a larger version of Gav's 28mm scratch build in his thread. I have to say it's a concept I've been wanting to explore for a while now and you two may have convinced me (although I suppose I'll just be a shameless hack at this point).

Excited for the wheelchair guy, interesting concept. Overall your scratch builds are improving nicely, I'll have to turn up my own game if/when I ever carve out the time. Unfortunately my apartment has been hovering between 95-115 degrees recently outside of the bedroom (which has a small window AC unit) so I haven't mustered the resolve to spend more than 5 minutes at a time at my work bench :(

Oh god, I have failed to respond for SO LONG. I have a red warning on my page that I might be committing necromancy. At least 120 days? Really? Wow.

Ok, questions answered, then updates posted.

Goldeneye - The torso is from a Dark Age mini I bought ages ago. It's donated parts to lots of things...

The King of Limbs is indeed part of the Liars, but that is in... hiatus. Yeah. Mostly because I don't know how to write for a Slaanesh character.

Yeah, obviously I'm expanding the INQ28mm part faster than the 54mm part, but my 54mm collection is pretty sizable anyway, and I have plans for about... 6 models that aren't here, I think? Cass Mark 5, Squidman, Wych, Harlequin, Techsavage, Psyker/savant, Mutie Pack, Trader Duelist, Techpriest, Cullmaster.... think that's it. Thats way more than 6, and I still have that bird head... aaargh So more to come! When I have time. I have a thesis to write after all...

Some great stuff here. I've been waiting a while to see some of these, great to see how they're turning out :)

I love the mounted hunter. Something about the hair, goggles and handkerchief over his face combo that just really works (and the coat helps). Looking forward to seeing the on-foot version as well.

The Xenological team member looks great, not too Scouty IMO (though I'm intrigued with what direction you'll go in). I'm not sold on (what I'm assuming) is the night vision attachment, though that could change with the paint job. Is it intended to be traditional night vision or some kind of xeno-tech?

Navigator is just brilliant. Incredibly mutant profile (almost alien, a little Tau mixed in there) but I think it's fitting. What are the plans for the smoother areas right here?

The Bone Lord is just awesome, a great fusion of parts. Really surprised that the pieces from that very Necron-looking mini fit for an Inquisitor but they do (it's a Cryx character, right?). Anyway, really cool.

As a roundup, the Meister is bizarre in a great way, great looking Fanatic (what's the head?), I love the Skull faced operative, and the plague-doctor Inquisitor is interesting (will like to see how it takes shape). Also, the girl and her zombies are very evil looking.

Wick - The goggles on the converted-Scout are supposed to be "broad-spectrum" goggles - night and infra vision etc. I was going for a Steampunk-y look, but the armour is going more and more techno-medieval, with long pointy boots and a fancy collar etc.

The Navigator is sort of based on the Ousters from Hyperion by Dan Simmons, at least a little bit. The smooth areas might just stay smooth, and be painted glossy-survival style! Not her shoulders though, or arms, they're being worked on now.

It is Cryx, not sure what model, was given a pile of parts for free by a friend. One arm is now on the Navigator, the spear-weilding bionic. Another Cryx model donated a torso to the Meister.

The Fanatic's head is an old Space Wolf head. I think that add-on pack has been updated, with more beards. There's a head there that seems to have been uniquely made to make 28mm version of Covenant, so much so that I feel I couldn't use it here, as it would so obviously be Covenant.

Easy E - He's Ordo Malleus, actually. I thought Daemonhunters are entitled to a hefty dose of the wyrd and freakish, and a mask to protect against plague seemed fitting for one who might face off against the forces of Nurgle.

Obviously inspired by... ok, by SOMEONE's crusader, using the same hipboots, padded (in this case scaled) torso, and the greatsword arms, but I can't find who. I thought it was Jeff Vader, but can't see it on his blog? And by inspired, I mean pirated from. Obviously.

Next up, Xytus, armed with a laslock, some scrolls, and shouting.

Xystus needs some work, I know. He's on the wrong side of messy...

Here's a Wolf Scout, Skander, because why not? It's a truly great model, so the conversion is pretty limited - a bionic arm, a boltgun instead of a bolt pistol, and the holster turned into a satchel - possibly for a satchel charge?

I tried and tried and tried to get in focus shots of his rune tattoos on the head, but my camera would not, no matter what, focus on anything other than the background.

Here's a b&w photo of PIP Inquisitor in some big fancy armour.

I'm going for a yellow armour, to move away from my over-used red-grey-brown standards.

Everything else from here-on-in is also b&w, to hide the flaws...

Here's a thermal-torch wielding explorer

I've gone for a steampunk look here, with weird goggles and so on.

Here's a heavily armoured Rogue Trader, looking very dapper in his feathered cap

He's massively out of proportion, but there you go.

And here's a Navigator, VERY much WIP - not even got any arms yet.

I'm pleased with how it's going, but not with the fact that the folds in the robe got smushed out at some point while attaching the tubes...
