after reading the last "dark magenta"-article, i wanted my own hrud.
but i wanted it to be a little bit more personal, something strange/disgusting/...
so i used some softair-bullets...
these are the first steps:
internal structure:

first layer of milliput and the bullets.

second layer, added the head:

i tend to give him/her some kind of ranged weapon, but i'm not sure which one and the "face" will be covered by a hood.
c&c's welcome as always.
phil
p.s.: sorry about the last pic!
Ooh, interesting... I'm started reworking my own Hrud, adding some tentacles and making the robe better...
Could this be a pregnant hrud? its back right now looks like a pregnant spider...
Very creepy, even more so with the pregnant spider suggestion! Thanks for ruining my sleep dapper....shudder
It really sparks my curiosity, what are you planning with it or are you keeping us guessing?
Yes, I can just see tiny, foetal Hrud writhing around under the translucent skin of those bubbles!
Very interesting.
Ooh! Watching with interest!
R.
thanks for the replies!
in fact that i'm studying biology, i had that pregnant spider in my mind as i created that character, so you were right. for a nomadic race like the hrud, it would be important to be independant from a nest, so i came to that idea.
last night, i gave her/him/whatever a hood and started with the details on the clothing:

what do you think?
It looks nice, I think the hood will give a mysterious effect, something which would fit with a Hrud.

Ooh! Watching with interest!
So am I.
I like what I see so far. The pose/posture reminds me very much of the picture in the Xenology book.
Odd and very, very creepy. I like it ;D
finally found the time for sculpting!
added some tatters and worked a little bit on the hood.

It is very informative for someone like me who can hardly sculpt to see the process moving along. The tatters do look very good, in my mind I am already getting a picture of what I think it will look like.
I love this model. Seriously disturbing.
thanks for the feedback! it motivated me to stand up 2 hours earlier and work on my hrud.
added the first part of the sleeve, just to see how it works.

i will add some straps, similar to those on the hood.
i want to fix some minor mistakes using sandpaper, but i'm not sure which granularity works best. any advice?
phil
edit: and i need to change the calendar dates in my camera...
A high grade super fine would be best, maybe even look at getting an abrassive polishing paper instead of sand paper
It could be that you have discovered a way to turn back time with your camera.
I think I should give some more feedback to be rewarded with more pictures. The sleeve looks good, for corrections I would use the smallest granularity I could find. When I jsut started modelling I once made the mistake of taking some of my parent's sandpaper, It was however far too rough, the poor plastic space marine got some serious battle damge there.
The abrasive you use is dependent on the material. When I have it available, I tend to use one of my Dremel's diamond grinding bits, but when I don't...
120 grit sandpaper is workable with softer putties, because they tend to resist filing/abrasion more. For harder materials, you want to go finer (unless you have very rough work to clean up) - I keep 320 for such a purpose.
However, my currently preferred "unpowered" solution is to use a craft knife and carefully cut or scrape down imperfections. You have to work carefully to avoid leaving little nicks in the putty, and blend in any "vertices" left around the edge of cuts, but it works quite well - and it's a lot less fiddly than trying to hold and use a tiny square of sandpaper.
(Although, it's best suited for convex surfaces and elastic putties. Some concave surfaces will demand sandpaper, and I imagine Milliput would crumble.)
After filing/scraping/sanding, I sometimes polish the surface of the putty up again with a soft rag to remove the scrape marks - they don't look very good on photos.
real life was a real pain in the azz for the last months, so i had no time for the important things of life.
but last weekend, i remembered some projects. especially this one:
just added some corpse armour, a big, ugly weapon and some details.
i hope, i can finish the sculpting before weekend...
When you're tidying it up, put some attention into the right arm, there's a couple of little krooks in the shape that don't look intentional
otherwise, niiiiiiiiice
Love the fusil. What parts have you used? (I see the end of a gauss flayer and... some kind of flamer tank? Possibly attached to the body of a shoota?)
the fusil is made of quovandius' gun (i removed the stock, grip and skull), the flamer tank is from the dreadknight and you were right, the muzzle is from a gauss flayer.
