Title: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - Keravin does Inq28mm
Post by: Keravin on July 03, 2011, 12:48:44 PM
I've gotten the Inq 28 bug and have been converting quite a lot to build up warbands.   Originally it was just going to be a Rogue Trader with his away team, but with the potential Inquisitor invitational needing an Inquisitor I started on that as well.   This plog will serve as a record of building and painting the warbands as well as character stuff.

Particularly given this is the Conclave I'll try and give a clear idea of why I'm gone with the character choices I have.   In the three warbands I'm doing only two characters so far have power or melta weapons, no boltguns, no power armour etc.    I'm well aware that model is just the start, but I figured now I've gotten these to a level where the character behind the model is becoming the focus that I might as well start plogs outside of my normal one on Ammobunker.

The crew so far for the Rogue Trader.

The Rogue Trader, Rogen Frey, is the least advanced in terms of building as I wanted an idea of what the rest of the crew would have before settling on him.   My plan for his sword is for it to have a shock generator, to give it some power without going the power weapon route, particularly as I think he'd be much more minded to go with a better pistol of some description rather than a fancy sword.   I can see him staying as a gunfighter like Kal, but I need to do some more work to change the model so it's not so stock.

You also have the pilot/Thief - a man who really doesn't want to be there, but who has skills that Frey feels will be of use planetside.   This guy started as a normal guardsman, but I found that as I started adding bits his role switched.   He's clearly not heavily armed and I see him trying to avoid doing anything heroic during a game.  His plan is to get to where he has to and do the job and then run like crazy.

The ex guardsman I like to call Lemmy - the basic muscle for the group - but someone (like the rest of the crew) who would not be out to get into a mas fight.   Better to pick your targets.   The model is an old Catachan tank rider with a space wolf scout head.   The head pretty much changed the whole character of the model and combined with the very relaxed pose led to his current persona.   He won't be called Lemmy, but he so reminds me of him.

Finally the Xeno-arcanist, a source of knowledge for Frey, but with very much his own agenda.   I figured as a scientist of sorts that he would dress in a semi practical way hence an armoured gauntlet just in case things bite.   He started out as becoming either a Bonded Emmissary, but when I started getting bits out I found things like the bones and that directed me towards doing him as he currently stands.   Need to finish off smoothing his arms in place and he'll be getting a cyberskull by his feet to record artifacts etc as he journeys with Frey.

I'll put up pictures and descriptions of the other warbands and plan is to start writing their characters up now I have a better idea of who they are.

The characters are still forming, but building them has been very helpful in getting me to reflect character in the model and helping establish certain traits already that will inform writing their backstory.

It looks like you're going to avoid the main criticisms of Inq28, and not just use unconverted "Tom, Dick and Harrys" from your 40k army, but some converted and unique models for some non standard archetypes, so congratulations on that.

But one important thing about your modelling - Green stuff is not a substitute for Superglue. It's a weaker join and it usually squeezes out around the edges (giving you things that will only look unsightly when painted).

There are rare cases where it's the most sensible adhesive, but you do need to pay careful attention and cut away/smooth out any that oozes out around the edges. Most of the time, it's far better to superglue it, then gap fill if necessary.

Looking pretty nice.

I especially like the converted tank rider has a nice relaxed look of a serious soldier taking his ease while still being aware of the surroundings.  Just remember to seal the block he is sitting on prior to spray painting.

What was the original model for the xeno-arcanist?

Regards

Blacknight/Marc

MarcoSkoll - thanks for the comments.   In some cases I have overused greenstuff.  However things like the Lemmy head needed it due to the way it was trimmed.   Things have been reglued where appropriate.

Blacknight - thanks.   No spray painting with Lemmy for that very reason.  I've painted styrofoam before so I know the danger :)     The original model for the Xeno- arcanist was Confessor Kyrinov.   Head and arms removed.

Been picking up new models for use in INQ28.   I'm swapping one Vostroyan for another to better convert.

One of Studio McVey figures who will get a new gun to go with the Rogue Trader's band.    I think this means the pilot/thief will just become a Thief letting this guy be the new Pilot.

Another Mcvey mini.   Lightly armed sniper.   Again I think she will probably go with the Rogue Trader as he seems someone more likely to tread lightly, but have a sniper in his back pocket if it goes badly.

I'm writing up backgrounds and slowly working on everyone, though it's my Witchhunter warband which is getting the focus because it's most likely to get played soonest.   I'll do an overview of those guys when I get chance, but I'm using the backgrounds to help inform the modelling.    I'm definitely trying to read around and I have flaws in every character, particularly the two Inquisitors.   It's been quite a slow process, but I think that will help pay dividends with much more connection to the characters.

Given I've started discussing the stats and backgrounds of the Witchhunter warband I figured I should show them.

The Witchhunters consist of:

Lynch - The Witchhunter
Uriah - The Pariah - human ganger wasting away every time he's forced to use his ability.
Callidion - Ex Arbitrator
Malakai - Gunfighter, still after all these years trying to open Lynch's eyes up to pragmatism.
Father Jericus - Priest
Sister Jezaiil - Sister Repentia
Magnos Ignace - Tech Priest

Lynch - Young Inquisitor, who some of his own band think still sees things too simplistic.   Gave up his old life when he became an acolyte, but remnants of that life are coming into where he is based and he may have to confront it.

Uriah -  Being eaten away as he comes into contact with things that make him use his ability.   Terrified of Lynch and being forced to put himself into situations.   Hates psykers and daemons seeing them as the cause of his pain.
Head has been changed on Uriah since this pic.

Callidon - Ex Arbitrator - Lynch's Hammer.   From a shrine world

Title: Re: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - Keravin does Inq28mm

Malakai - Previously worked for Lynch's Mistress and joined him when he was accorded Inquisitor status.   Thinks that Lynch is simplistic in his viewpoint of rights and wrongs sometimes.    Veteran of many investigations.

Sister Jezaiil - Seeking penance in battle and death.    The only way to redeem herself.

Magnos Ignace - Unusually for the group not a religious man in the same sense as the others.   Following instructions from the Adeptus Mechanicus and looking for artifacts.

Father Jericus - The well travelled priest.   Views Uriah as a project – get him to see his role in serving the Emperor.   The autogun is a weapon of last resort.   Far better to deliver zeal, much like his Master.

Great warbands, nice conversion work. The Cygnar warlock model is a nice conversion base. Any paint jobs forthcoming?

However I don't recognise the body of Jazaiil, another Studio McVey?

Thanks Heroka.   I've been building the figures before starting painting as I'm just finishing off a Tau army.   The Repentia is a Dark Age model.

Knowing the speed and high skill level at which you paint, these will be done in.....

I'm surprised they're not done yet.  :o

The warband is looking good, if not a bit large.  Let's you choose models as needed.

The idea with all the warbands is to give options.  The Inqvitational is looking at warbands of 6 to be picked from and all the 3 (maybe now 4) I'm building have at least that number, with the one I'm looking at using having 7 at the moment.

Well finally started putting paint onto models.

Father Jericus has ended up being the one I've worked on most.   I've tried for a slightly different pallete, working up the robe from a different colour to normal.

Lynch is started, but now I'm figuring what to make his predominant colour.

And the cyberhound for Callidon is started.   Gone for a barcode on the shoulderblade, but I am thinking I might paint the shoulders black or deep red then redo the barcode.

After Molotov's refresher of where his bands are at and after sourcing some new models, including the Chaos Champion I want to use for the Radical's techpriest and Yarrick who will now become my Rogue Trader after conversion, I've been rejigging the bands around.  Trying to get a different feel and outlook with each group as well as look at the modelling opportunities.

I've also started looking at building for GMing INq54 and got at least one NPC ready to go.   That thread will probably have to wait until the campaign is started and the NPC has come into play at least once.

Well I had planned to post up pictures of how the new retinues all look and the revised thinking on them, but I decided to stop waiting for people to actually buy things off me and bought my Grey knights kit so I could build my new Inquisitor.

Very much based on Migsula's work on dakka, but modified to fit my skill and I wanted a different weapon.

Now both arms need some work on them to get them smooth and consistent.     This is probably my good guy Inquisitor - not a radical, not a zealot.

And I think will work well with his new Interrogator.

They're probably down the list to get painted.   Lynch and the Rogue Trader are probably the first warbands that will see action.

I've been working on lists and functions for all the characters across all the warbands.   One thing that had bothered me was Molotov already used Solomon Lok as was and the pose is great, but didn't necessarily fit my vision for the Radical Inquisitor he is going to be.

Less combat aggressive and more threatening from other powers pov which fits with his stance.   Of all the Inquisitors I'm working with he's the meanest and will sacrifice you as soon as look at you.

Then for the good guy's retinue I've moved over the Kal Jerico model that was going to be my Rogue Trader conversion.
Minor conversion, but I think gives him a different feel.   Also frees up his cutlass to be used elsewhere.

Slight modification on the new Inquisitor to change his sword based on feedback and Commissar Molotov has made me a new Magos for Lynch's warband which I'm gobsmacked about.   Got my new Yarrick through and started work on him to turn him into my Rogue Trader.

Right chopping has taken place and Rogen Frey, my Rogue Trader has started taking shape.

I'm definitely thinking the staff needs shortening.    If I don't go with the staff I'm a little at a loss as to what to hold in that hand as the other is getting the gun and he's got a sheathed sword.

Modified the Interrogator last night as well.

Shoulder pads replaced with Kroot and arms moved.  Changed I symbols on the model as well after trimming then off elsewhere.

And switched symbol on him as well for one I carved off Coteaz.

Might actually get to play a game next week.

Right starting the summaries of each warband as they stand.  Also flagging up things I might look at swapping out.   These are definitely not all planned out, but give an idea of my current thinking.   Still need to look at more of the skills.

Rogen Frey – Rogue Trader
Armed with Cutlass and shock generator,  ?? pistol, comms
Skills: Leader
His sister and he inherited the family business and ran it together for a few years.   Whilst he was away on a trade trip she was murdered whilst visiting a planet.   He has been pursuing leads to find her killer and those who may have been behind it.

As part of his trading aims he has started to look into establishing a "Cold trade" from Dead Xenos worlds.   It is for this reason he has taken on a Xeno Arcanist.   He also believes that his sister's death may be connected to this type of trading so pushing on this route may lead him to her killers.

He does not operate antagonistically.  His approach is to have one of his band to get into a watching position who then advises the rest as to what is going on.   He is not adverse to retreating if there looks to be a palpable threat.

Fellowhand – Xeno Arcanist
Pistol, armoured left arm, divination bones(?)
Specialises in obscure lore.   Separated himself from Ordo Xenos due to growing mistrust on both sides.   Came to work for Frey who uses his knowledge whilst keeping him safe.

Pilot
Laspistol, piloting suit (rebreather system, 2AP all locations except head, pressure bands), pilot's helmet (AP 6, inbuilt comm. Link, average auto senses and rangefinder), knife
Skills: Hot shot
Rogen's pilot for getting them down to planetside.  Cool under pressure, but easily distractable on the ground.   Rivalry with the pilots of Rogen's main ship.

Thief/Medic
Knife, electronics kit, laspistol, plantable explosives(?), axe, telescope, other gear
Skills: Dodge or Acrobatic?, Medic
No desire to be a hero.   Electronics Specialist, ex Guard pulled from stockade

This is the one I'm considering moving to another warband, especially with the pilot now in this one.

Rock – Ex guard
Lasgun, comms, grenade
Skills: Hipshooting (?)
From 616 regiment.   Rogen's muscle.

Sniper/Observer
Modified long las, Comms,
Deadeye Shot, Catfall
Rogen's ace in the hole.   Usual practice is to get up high and keep a watch on proceedings, letting various of the party be aware of possible problems.

The Radicals

Willem Nathin – Radical Ordo Malleus Xanthite Inquisitor
Auspex, pistol, mesh lined robes, anointed hammer
Skills: Lightning Reflexes
Member of Scholarite at Arms.   Hunts down prophesies relating to future daemon incursions and works to stop them.    Ruthless and has sacrificed many to thwart the prophecies.

Torturer/Scout
Laspistol, bionic eye or rangefinder, knives, chainsword, drugs, flak vest
Offers nice or not nice as options – nice is the drugs, not nice is slicing skin and bits off.   Hired out his skills to Nathin, having had basic training as an Explicator.

Gunrunner – being built
Specialises in smuggling exotic imperial and alien weaponry.   Working with Nathin, providing contacts and jointly sharing some resources

Looking to give him a few bits of xenos technology – maybe a shuriken pistol, as well as more mundane items.

Magos – not built, but will be trying to emulate Jacob Rune Nielsen's work above.
Jezzail
Khamrian philosophy – seeking AI and thus working with Nathin.   Pro Xenos

Huntress in the darkness -Daemonhost – not built yet, but based on the new banshee model
Bound in the body of a noblewoman who had sought to summon the daemon for her own purposes along with the cult she ran.   Nathin had researched the daemon and realised it was a useful resource so subverted the ritual for his own purposes and bound the daemon to his service.

Ex ganger
Shotgun, Knife

And the final warband before I get to Lynch's.

The Good guys

Psyker Inquisitor
Pistol, flak armour or better (chest and arms), power sword

Interrogator
Bolt pistol, flak armour (except head), blessed sword

Cale – gunfighter
Military blade, dual lasguns

Bounty hunter
Shotgun, flak armour (except head)

Turn the Caine model into Bounty Hunter, remove the smoke stack, give him backpack and other equipment

Tech figure – Calculus Logi?
No combat abilities

Just done a bits order and waiting on various things to show up as well.  Plan for next week is to paint and also get more background and characters a lot further progressed.

Easy E - it's the servitor that will now come with Inquisitor Lok from Forge World.

Thanks Dapper - well no one's really a good guy in 40k.  He's just good in comparison to the nutter with a daemonhost and the religious zealot.

Actually progressing on painting now.

Lynch.   Went with a brown armour to get a different look and also to evoke the leather coat motif.   Also it works with the idea of a steampowered armour.   Planning on getting him, Father Jericus and at least the cyberhound done by Thursday if I can.

Working on Rogen Frey and I think the arm looks a lot better now with a slightly shortened staff and bulked up arm.

With the work I'm doing trying to strengthen up character concepts I had a thought about the makeup of the groups again.   The Kal jerico gunfighter figure who currently sits with the good guys would probably work as a Seneschal for the Rogue Trader, also freeing up the Thief as well.   So I was looking at moving the Thief and the Guard to the good guys then probably using a swordswoman to replace the thief to give them a little more close combat ability and also a bodyguard for Rogen.

Well the guard has stayed with the Rogue Trader because the comms idea works better there.   Meanwhile actually getting somewhere painting wise.

Start off with the new techpriest Molotov sent me.

Here's him against my own version.   Molotov's seems shorter, which does seem to help.

And alongside Callidon.

I've started painting him and working on getting a different feel to the red compared to what I've just done for Jericus.    I'm working on him and the pilot next.  The Rogue Trader's crew are going to get greys and blues as the focal colours for them.

Finally finished first Inquisitor figures.
As a joke I have his chainsword read be pure, be vigilant as a Nemesis the Warlock reference.

Callidon's hound done as well.

And Father Jericus done as well.   Really happy with his robe.

Shot of the three together.   The photos don't look great.  Much better in person.

Working on characters across all the warbands now.

Thanks.   Well I've been talking for a bit about getting one of the new plastic Banshees and converting it into a bound daemonhost to join Nathin's radicals.

Started with this tonight.   Banshee kit, chaos sorcerer head, old chain my wife gave me to use plus grey knight bits.

And thus far it looks like this
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF9140.jpg)

Since then I've greenstuffed hair for her and fixed the hand in place as well filling in the gap there.

And she seems to fit in with the rest of the radicals.

Going with purples for her dress I think.  Might have to think about colours I want to do across the rest of the radical models.  Given at the moment the witchhunters have reds, browns and cream, and the Rogue traders will be blues and greys.   Any suggestions?

The Huntress in the darkness has progressed some since I posted her starting pictures.

Daemonhost is the focus as I'm running a 16 player tourney tomorrow and then gaming sunday so no painting this weekend.

Here's where I'm upto

Still trying to get the flesh right.  I'm happy with the eyes.   The blood on the fingers I like.  Suggestions on what colour to do the hair would be gratefully received.

Well finally finished the daemon and useful to have painted her as it got some ideas in place for how I'll do that warband.

She's not perfect, but fairly happy with her.   Need to work on her stats now though need to do more reading to see how others have statted up bound daemonhosts.   Her background is that the Daemon's name is Huntress in the Darkness and that the host body was a noblewoman who, with her cult, was intending to raise the daemon for her own purposes.   Willem Nathin, Ordo Malleus Inquisitor, subverted the ritual and bound the daemon into the woman's body.  His research had shown that this daemon might be a good source of information and so he sacrificed her to gain the knowledge.

Thanks Heroka.   Yeah I'm looking at getting some more to convert up as part of my Wracks for my Dark Eldar.

Been painting and converting whilst I sort out which warband is going to go to the INq28 Inqvitational.

Just finished Magnos Ignace for my Witchhunters.
The figure was converted for me by Commisar Molotov and I've painted him up with pallid skin and a different red to go alongside Father Jericus.   Unfortunately this band won't be going to the Inqvitational due to a number of their models being heretical if we're playing at Warhammer World :)

Conversion wise been replacing non GW models in the two potential warbands I'm thinking of taking.

A voidborn Warden who at the moment seems to be the potentially naive new recruit to Nathin's radicals.   His background at the moment is very religious.   Carries small portable shrine that he sets up and prays at every day.   Each planet he visits he tries to get the priest there to bless his weapons.   Recruited by Nathin recently and has almost taken it upon himself to try and save him.     Whether Nathin will allow this to happen or tire    He stays as far away from the Daemonhost as possible, which Huntress enjoys taunting his fear and ill – ease.

He's one that might move between the final setups of the 2 bands.

Another new build is

Using Black templar and dark angel body cut down with some more work to be done sat on Pit slave legs.  At last I found a use for the pitslave as it was an awful model.

Potential setup for him is
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF9288.jpg)
Though I'm minded to give him a flamer instead with limited ammo.   Calling him Vacetti.

Working on finishing the Rogue Trader's pilot now and I'll update with a few more new builds soon.

Thanks Vermis.   The Huntress is certainly tempting me to play my Radicals at the Inqvitational.   Need to get someone from the good guys to inspire me.

Finished up Cutter, the pilot for the Rogue Trader's crew.

There's a shield on the left hand side that I may revisit if I get a nice symbol to work with through the Rogue Trader crew.

Once I'd taken those photos it dawned on me to do something more with the base and the coat lining.

Pretty happy with him and I now need to figure what to paint up next.

Had a try and see how arms would work on the new Priest.  The pictures are wip on the right with the flamer and a get it in place on the left.   Going to redo the left completely.

I wanted to see how the arms would work.  Not entirely sold on the flamer, but I desparately wanted something that wasn't a shotgun.

I think you should either cut down the flamer into a shortened hand flamer, or elongate it into a more elaborate long flame lance-type-thing that adorns all the Witchhunter artwork. Something to set it apart from the usual flamers that adorn the rank and file guardsmen... maybe some kind of burning brazier on his backpack as well? How about his own acolyte or sanctioned mutant to carry his flame pack?

Based on a suggestion on another forum I've actually been looking at giving him an exterminator instead.

Well I've built up the right arm and quite happy with it.

Left arm I've started on, but need to bulk the back up.

After the exterminator suggestion I've built one up.
And I quite like the look.

Means for his backpack I'd give him a gun or a loud speaker made from the cadian compack.

Then I've started building an enforcer based on the front covers of the books.   Lots to do on her and need to find a head to use.

Couple of shots of where the Brother is up to.

The backpack needs more work doing to it with litanies and maybe more clag on it.

Then thanks to Sparks I have the old chaos champion to work with to build the Admech Magos for the radicals.

Full skirt needs doing, lengthened gun, replaced dagger based on JRN's work.

Brother is really starting to develop some character, really looks like he's trying to exorcise something.  I do hope he's turned that chainsword on just in case.  Liking the sleeves on the robes.

Thanks very much Myriad.   Very happy with the sleeve in the end.

First up the vent on the Exterminator.

Painted it won't show as much.

More work on the Enforcer.   Still looking for a suitable head and also for a mace I can use for her.

Then I started on the building of the radical magos

This was to get the basics in place before I start properly sorted the robe out.

Little bit later
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF9375.jpg)
And moved the feet to a more suitable position I think.

A shot of the proposed radicals warband
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF9363.jpg)

and the good guys
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF9364.jpg)

Still undecided which one to take forward as the one for the Inqvitational.

More updates on the work I'm doing.

First off the radical Magos

Got armour to do on him now and fitted the chainsword.

I'm also now building up the rifle butt.  Got a frame in place that I can expand on to get the shape I want.

Then I decided to change the shoulder pads on the Interrogator

Happier with this look.  I'll leave the other arm off whilst I paint her.

Title: Re: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - Keravin does Inq28mm
Post by: Keravin on December 15, 2011, 06:55:04 PM
Thanks Dolnikan.   The chainsword is a cut down Space wolfs chainsword.

Work's been bonkers and not really had much chance to paint or model.   I have however started on painting 2 figures - 1 for each warband.

The interrogator for the good guys.   Need to decide what colour to do her armour.  Her cloth is being done in a darker green so starting with cryx bane base and working up to catachan.

And the Gunrunner for the Radicals.   I've started his armour off in purple as I think he likes being flamboyant and showing off a little hence his armament as well.

I don't know why but the gunrunner somehow looks very smug. There is something about his head.
One should always take any colour-advice I give with a cart full of salt because I'm colourblind but I think that shining silver armour would look good on the interrogator.
Title: Re: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - Keravin does Inq28mm
Post by: Keravin on December 18, 2011, 05:13:54 PM
I'd imagine the gunrunner is pretty smug.

Well I've tried a metallic finish to her armour.  But not shiny as doesn't really fit my vision of the characters.

Still a fair bit to do on her.  For starters need to figure what to do with the shoulder pads.   I was thinking a base colour and then some freehand on them.   Think the green needs some more work as well.

She does look good but perhaps the metal could be a slight bit cleaner, now it is a bit hard to see from some sides.
Title: Re: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - Keravin does Inq28mm
Post by: Keravin on December 18, 2011, 09:15:39 PM
It's not going to be cleaner as then she won't be very good at not being a prime target in some of the nastier places her Inquisitor will send her into.  The only models I ever do nice armour on are High Elves or big goddamn heroes.   Definitely not on anyone for Inquisitor.
Title: Re: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - Keravin does Inq28mm
Post by: Keravin on December 22, 2011, 01:14:05 PM
Managed to get a little done on these and also started on the good guys' Inquisitor - Inquisitor Tybalt of Ordo Malleus.  I'll do a lot more on him once I've got the two on the desk done.   My plan as well is to try and do some character creation stuff next week as well, particularly for the Huntress, Interrogator Serren and the gunrunner, Darrius Criid.

Serren I've not done loads on, but trying a verdigris effect which I think helps with the gold on her.   Next to be worked on is the green clothing.

Darrius I'm having more issues with.  Given him the gold edging to try and spruce him up a bit.   It's all these flat areas I'm having the problems with.   Like the shoulder pads, which I don't really want to remove as otherwise it'd just be more of the coat.  Going to look around at some art and have some ideas of markings to play with.

The effect on the interrogator looks good, the gold is a lot more 'goldy'
For the gunrunner you could paint on a simple logo of an organization he works a lot with, or of an actually legal one to support his cover.

I've gone with a symbol for a company he might have purloined stuff from on the one shoulder.   He's definitely independent hence why he's joined up with the Inquisitor.

Well my plans on character work (or indeed anything else) went down the pan with getting sick at Christmas which totalled the last 4 days including my birthday.  Still feeling pretty ropey which is why the photos aren't great below.

I have managed to finish Interrogator Serren.
Green has been highlighted up and I now know how I'm doing the larger coat of her Inquisitor in the same colour.     I will try to get some better shots at the weekend when I'm feeling better (hopefully) so I can update her entry on the compiled thread.

Whilst I finish off the Gunrunner, who is actually almost there once I figure his base and some detail work plus his backpack and trousers, I've started on Inquisitor Tybalt as I started on the green alongside Serren as I want them to work well together.

Look out, she's got a scroll  :)

Lovely dynamism to the model.  Tybalt looks like he's got real potential too - be a nice matching pair, robed and a bit mad looking.

Thanks Myriad.  Don't mess with the scroll.

Now I've got her and the gunrunner finished (pictures when there is that sun thing so probably saturday) I'm starting to think a lot more on background and slowly working on that.   Plus I've been listening to Thorn and Talon so getting inspiration from that.

With those two done I've been starting on the next figures for each warband to get painted.

Inquisitor Tybalt has pretty much had his coat finished, but now trying to figure what other colours to work on him with.  Having another look through my various picture sources for ideas.

Again better pictures at the weekend.

Then I finally finished building Morden Orbest, Nathin's Magos companion.

Trying not to do too much metallics (which can be difficult on an Admech).  Pretty pleased with how the gun turned out and paint has helped a lot.

Thanks Dolnikan.  Orbest is a fairly radical magos.  Lots of interest in AI and Xenos tech.

Stuff's not getting worked on that fast as I'm still sick so painting hasn't been high on list of things to do.   But managed to get some daylight shots of stuff.

Firstly Interrogator Serren - some better shots.

Having been reading the psychic rules and rereading Dark Magenta articles I've been doing some work on her background and rules.   Very happy for example she has a knife in such an ornate scabbard which will play nicely for a Psykana Mercy Blade.

Shot of Tybalt's coat so you should be able to see the work I've done on it.

Pair of them together at the moment.

Then over with the radicals the Gunrunner is done.

Had to alter light levels to show off some of the markings and not managed a decent shot of the tattoo/barcode on the back of his head.   Similarly been working on his background now.

And then finally the Magos in progress.

It's a stylised eagle.  Been an issue getting a decent shot of the detail there because of the colours.

Well the two on the painting desk are slowly progressing.  The Magos quicker than the Inquisitor as I know what I want to do paintwise with him.   Other than that I think I may have gotten a head to use for the enforcer.

I've got parts incoming and going to try and build her a riot shield (though all the bretonnian shields seem to be sold out).  I'm about half done on the stats for the good guys though still trying to figure how to represent bits of certain characters.  Hopefully have up some information on Serren for example soon.

I really like that head, I've been forcing myself to not use it as much as I do. The bionic eye looks promising, I look forwards to seeing more of her.

Thanks Dolnikan.

I have been making progress on stuff whilst I spend time with my cat so here's an in progress update.   Also done work on stats/characters and got an email in with Molotov to have him have a first look over stuff before I put it up.

Stuff I'm experimenting on and trying to get to work.

The idea is he becomes a different type of adept/seer.  Not entirely convinced by using the necromancer arms.

The idea is a Torchbearer - an independent missionary sent to human cultures who worship dark and savage gods to try and bring them over to the Emperor.

Those two are very much seeing whether things might work.

Very basic conversion and since removing his hand I have become acutely aware the only way of making a bigger change is chop that whole arm off.

Inspired by one of the Dark Heresy character portraits in Emperor's will.  Just started on him last night.

Then finally i've been looking at how to do a servo skull controller for a while.  Built and torn apart a few bodies that might be suitable, but I got in bits this week and got the Heresy apprentice body which I started work with.

Still lots to do, particularly given some tech to his head, but generally I'm really happy with how he's coming together.  His shortness compared to some models won't be an issue and obviously he'd get a few more servo skulls to operate with.

Other thing getting worked on is giving the enforcer a mace now I think I have a suitable one from a chaos warrior of all places.

The new models are very interesting. I'm afraid that the necromancer arms don't fit all that well with the rest of the psyker's body. The most interesting idea to me is the servo skull controller, it  is something different.

Post by: Keravin on January 23, 2012, 10:23:25 AM
Yeah I'm not convinced on the arms either.   Probably wouldn't end up a psyker.  I'd want him to be much less offensive than that.   The idea I had for his bulked out appearance is he's basically cocooned to keep him still standing.

Trying to take my mind off things.  Thanks to PDH and Rise for bits.   Already used one of the shields Rise sent as you can see below.

Think that gives me my enforcer.   I had planned for the shield to go on the back, but the hand seems to work and I like the final pose.

Built a power maul/mace for her from Chaos warrior mace, dark angel power mace and the bottom of a grey knight staff.  It's ludicrous in a way only GW stuff is sometimes.

Got various bits, but two figures i'm working on building after the recent flurry are the servo skull operator and the pistol wielding guy.

Thoughts/Comments?

I wouldn;t want to face that enforcer as a mob member. Perhaps you could do a bit more work on the chest to make it look less dark eldar like, especially the gemstone doesn;t fit too much with an imperial enforcer I think.

The gem I was planning on keeping to differentiate the body from the Interrogator where I used a dark eldar body as well.

I've revised stats and need to type them up in the other thread.   Also been reading the new Amalathian sourcebook, which has definitely decided me that Tybalt isn't one, but that my older witchhunter Lynch is probably a borderline purist, which makes his warband all the more fun.

I got some bits in and been working on what I think will be a gland warrior for Nathin's radicals using these bits

The head is big so I'm currently bulking out the body now I've got the head in place and he'll be taller and bulkier than most people, though not as big as an ogryn.

Finished greenstuffing for now on the servo skull controller.  Giving him a bit of downtime before final look over him.   I can see him ending up with Tybalt.

Got a new model for the Rogue Trader's crew.

Hasslefree model and not decided yet if I'm going to convert her or use her as is.

Then just to prove I'm still painting.

Still getting Tybalt's colours in.   Slow process as I'm trying to figure each layer and what I'll want to do.   This is really just basecolours except the coat.

And the Magos is continuing.   Doing the check really helps bring him to life.   You'll see following Maelstrom's painting of his arch heretek I went with the teal which is nowhere near done yet.

Where is that head from?

The pattern on the magos' hood really helps giving him some more presence. I would keep the Hasslefree model as she is now, it looks good and I don't see anything that needs to be changed to fit in better.

Dolnikan - it's from the chaos lord on manticore.  Picked the head up on a bits site.

Heroka - that;s the way I'm feeling at the moment.  Can't really see any reason to change her.  Need to figure her role in the Rogue Trader's crew and go from there.

Taking inspiration from the Rogue Trader RPG, Arch Militant seems an appropriate job title - head of both the rogue traders personal and the ships security.

A purity seal or making the Hassle Free's Firearm into a Las gun would set her off just perfect, but she's otherwise lovely and very 40k.

Thanks Heroka.  Certainly fits the picture in the RT rulebook.

Adlan - The firearm is pretty much the only thing I would consider changing.  I'll see on that when I get back to that crew.

Not a lot of time this week to do stuff with work etc.

Been building the strain warrior/guard.

Thanks Dolnikan.   I'll come back to him probably around Easter.

Work and other stuff have been getting in the way.   Started painting a few other figures to try and get stuff at least started before the AB bash.

Started painting Nathin as I was very conscious that I hadn't even started my second Inquisitor.

There he is alongside the still being worked on Magos Morden Orbest.   Quite happy with his robe, but noticed not got a picture of the scripture I've added to the bottom left.   Need some ideas for what colour to do his gloves as don't really want to do more brass/gold.

Then also started on the enforcer, who is being done up in the style of the one on the novel front covers.   Going to freehand markings and symbols onto the shoulder pads.   Since then the skin has had more work done to it and started on the blue on the jewel, again to replicate the novels.   You can see where I'm upto on Tybalt as well.  Slowly building him up.   Thinking the inside of the cloak will need some embroidered work.

Working on the blast shield which is further along than the rest of her.

If I get this lot finished this gives me Inquisitor Tybalt, Enforcer and cyberhound, and Interrogator Serren for the good guys, with the Enforcer desparately needing a name and background.   Then Inquisitor Nathin, Magos Orbest, Huntress in the Darkness and Darrius Criid done for the Radicals.   The radicals still need their 6th member building and whilst writing the background for Orbest I wonder if this model who is quite armed really fits him.   Tempted to do a new conversion based on the same model minus the chainsword, especially after reading the Dark magenta article with rules for subversive programming.

The inquisitor is starting to look very good. You could do the gloves in black or even in a light silver tone, to give the hands something special.

The blast shield is amazingly good.

Glad the shield's gone down well.  Bit more to do on it.

I promised a picture of what I'm trying to emulate with the one build at the moment.

That's where I'm up to on him (apart from other kneepad is also done now).  Aside from handcuffs, finding a decent head for him and purity seals I'm also thinking his coat will need decent cuffs on it.

It is always nice to see the inspiration for a model. Will you be keeping the chains/ropes/whatevers on his chest or will they be removed somehow?
Title: Re: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - Keravin does Inq28mm
Post by: Keravin on March 04, 2012, 12:23:56 PM
Dolnikan - I'll probably be keeping them as I removed them on the gunrunner.  Plus I have no great idea for how or what to replace them with for this guy.

Well managed a bit of painting and modelling yesterday.   Even finished a model, though not one I expected to.

First off work on the one modelling project.

Cutting out and reshaping the coat has worked.   Once the belt on the coat has dried it's my plan to reshape the back so it lies a little more naturally and covers that hole up a little more.   Been finding out some arms to use for the other side as well.   It's almost certain that whatever arm I use I'll swap the hand on it.

As I've said before now I've been creating the character for my Magos for the radicals I kept wanting to change the armament on him as the chainsword meant he was a little too well armed and gave a wrong impression for what I wanted him to be.

Arm cut off, damage repaired, new arm put in place.

Gives me the arm to allow him to do the subversive programming I want him to do after reading the Dark Magenta rules and the latest RPG stuff.   Plan is to paint the fingers metallic and it represents some tech that he's modified along the way.   It also focuses him on the Jezzail rather than presenting him as some sort of combat character which he definitely wasn't intended to be.

Then finally the Enforcer for Tybalt's warband got finished.

I've freehanded a double headed eagle onto the shoulderpad to emulate the book design, but also to break the metallic bits up.

And here she is with her cyberhound.

I say she's finished, but she's done for now and I may go back once I've had a bit of time away from painting her to get some perspective.   Fairly certain the shield is where I wanted it to be.

The magos' new hand looks very good, a bit creepy like it should be.

The enforcer looks very good as well, the eagle is a nice touch and her normal eye came out very well.

Thanks Dolnikan.

Been ages since managed to update.   Enforcer Camiron has had her hair finished to mask a little too elfy an ear and also just improved the blending on her suit.   Inquisitor Tybalt is now almost finished.   Added freehand on him and just really need to finish his gloves and he's done.

But I have managed to finish Magos Morden Orbest for the Radicals.

I'm much happier with him now.  He's got a nice creepy feel to him and no longer looks like a combat character.

Following the Ammobunker bash though it looks like it's definitely Tybalt and his warband who are going along so once Tybalt is done I'm going to be finishing Kraye and then working on the Adept.    If I get the FW enforcer in time then I'll look at using his cybermastiff as Camiron's.   Though she's lost 2 in 2 games so not a great life expectancy :)    Playing these guys has really helped in establishing personality and already some of them have some new traits.   Interrogator Serren having failed to shoot down a combat servitor at point blank with her bolt pistol lost her legs, which have since been regrown.   Tybalt managed to disrupt a bound daemon, which means Kraye is a little less antagonistic towards him at the moment.   Things like that.

He looks very good, both archaic and technological. I take that Serren will have grown a bit of a dislike of combat servitors from that event.

I saw her becoming a) more cautious as she ran ahead of the others which is how she ended up in the path of the servitor, and b) more likely to have trained and focused on her shooting.

Or be toting a servitor all of her very own  ;D

I remember a game in 54mm where we sat around before the game started jokingly saying things like

"I see your servitor and raise you with my servitor."

and so on and so on, I started with a labour servitor, went to a combat servitor and then a heavy gun toting servitor.

She's an Interrogator.   Eventually she'll end up with a warband all of her own :)

Well I've had limited time for painting, but I have finished Inquisitor Tybalt.

And some really out of focus shots of the whole group so far
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF9610.jpg)

If I can get the new Enforcer in time then I'll be using that cyberhound with the group.   That just leaves Kraye to finish painting (and he's taking time as I can't figure what colours to do all the detail on him) and then the adept and Wayfarer/Priest to finish off the group for the Inqvitational.

Working on the adept next.   Saturated colours on him I think.   Very dark robes and pale skin, working up from a thrall flesh.

Thanks guys.    The Enforcer is all about attitude - she barely gets above a walk on the tabletop - that's what she has the dog for.

Been making some progress on two more for Tybalt.

Kraye is coming along.   I keep seeing more detail I need to factor in and I'm going with a green and grey colour scheme so that the grey will tie in with the Lady daemonhost he used to work for.   He's taking a lot longer.

Mortemer the Savant is coming along a lot quicker.   Trying to keep him fairly simple, though the wires I like to do in colour and trying to get them in shades that don't pull away from him is the main issue.   Done some nice work on his book so I'll try and get a good shot of that for next update.

Dolnikan - the conversion is based on someone else's idea who did a lovely conversion using a necromunda shotgun piece.  Probably a good thing I didn't have a spare one as I do seem to like having shotguns in my warbands just on the aesthetics.

Well I forgot to take a shot of Inquisitor Nathin's lanterns, but I'm pleased with the effect which is an eerie blue light coming from them.   He's actually probably closed to being finished as I can't see a lot more I want to do on him.   Might have him done before I go back to work.

I have however finished Mortemer the savant.

Quite happy with how the book turned out.   Done an inscription on his las pistol as I figured he'd inscribe most of his equipment.   Just spotted the random bit of metal on the laspistol so I'll tidy that up.

Starting on the Wayfarer/Priest now.   Seriously need to figure out what colour to do his robes.   I could go for a lighter green maybe even up to olive.   Red robes for him would probably not work that well in terms of fitting the rest of the warband.

The scribbling is a very nice touch, it givessome instant character.

About the robes, perhaps light brown would work? I have it on one my my own priests and somehow I think that the colours look good that way.

I've started the priest in green.  Got a nice olive so I'll build to that.   The way things are going Kraye will end up as the last one to be finished.

Because I've gone and finished Inquisitor Nathin as well.

I like the eerie blue effect and added little lines of red to the white on the back of his armour, which could be taken in multiple different ways.

I'm now in the position where I'm thinking of making a start painting the Rogue Trader crew, especially after enjoying painting the blue on the adventurer I've been painting up.

Thanks Dolnikan.  He's all about the sorcery, but same basic concept.

Well I started working on one Inq28 model yesterday and ended up with another.

Start of the build process.

Pinning to get the arm sculpt to work.   The idea of this model was a Torchbearer Missionary, but I just cannot get the priest's staff with the book to work and not look awkward.

Then cut up an entirely different model.

Warmachine Sorscha plastic legs with dark eldar body and converted corsair arms.

The head's proving the main issue as getting a decent female head is a continual problem.

Head chopped away at to allow resculpting.

First attempt.  Really not sure about it.  If I had some spare cash I'm thinking of getting the new Black Scorpion lady pirates and taking a head from there.   See if I manage to sell any stuff in the next week.  Unless anyone has any other suggestions for sourcing a head?

She looks good and I agree, getting female heads that look even vaguely good is a big issue. I like to use some of the plastic wood elf heads, the ones with the uncovered faces, but it remains a problem. Other than that I don't know any good sources you're not already using.

Already used wood elf head on the enforcer and the interrogator hence why I've tried with Dark Eldar this time.

Given up on the Dark Eldar head and trying a different idea. The figure I'm planning on beheading is the Governor's daughter from Black Scorpion.

That's the metal version I own which I will be leaving alone and getting the new resin version on Saturday.

There's the head against the body.

That will leave me with her body to also do something with.

Then the other model I'm building is a Crusader.

Probably not a lot getting done on these until Sunday night.

That head looks very good, it would fit nicely on the model. The crusader looks very nice as well, where is his right arm from?

It's from Kamarazov(whatever his name is) on the throne.

Having tried the other head I then dismantled the whole thing.

Well my figure saw me dismantle her again and try a different tack.

I went back to the original head as the one I wanted to use seemed too small.
Cadian gasmask deals with my big issue which was the shouty mouth and gives her a better look for the Ordo Xenos feel.   Shoulder pads removed and then looked at the arms.

I was then thinking of her as a hunter type.   She became Ordo Xenos from hunting background and the body position worked with the gun braced.   Though I did not want a Dark eldar weapon there.

Belt and body wise to bulk up her waist and the removal of the old model's holster meant I looked at a scabbard here.

Then it was a case of with the arm I was looking to use over there how to work the scabbard and arm together.

I ended last night with the one arm done and in position.

Now for her other arm I'd really like some sort of crossbow 40ked up so after bits at the moment to see if I can get it to work.

The mask really helps the head, it looks a lot better now. The sword arm is very nice as well, it makes her look competent and at ease.

The model is coming together quite nicely! Regarding the crossbow for her, have you looked at the Dark Elf Black Corsairs kit as an option? One of their weapon options are one-handed, pistol-like crossbows. The bits look slender enough to fit well with a woman plus they should be easy enough to convert and "40k-ify".

Too small for what I was thinking.  I wanted her as a former hunter so at the moment I've gone with a modified Kroot rifle.

Well she's now built.

Ordo Xenos Inquisitrix who I envisage having a retinue which also operates akin to a hunting party.    I've started building what I think I'll use with her.   I am definitely planning one carrying alternative weapons for her to take.  The only thing I think I may do on her is maybe do a bit more on her hair.

I've also gone back to the Governor's daughter and used the head chop to start converting her to act as a negotiator for an Inquisitor.
I suspect she's going to end up with Inquisitor Lynch as it helps with the balance of gender across my warbands, though I'm almost tempted to use her with Nathin.    I realised one of the issues I had with using her head in the conversion.  The nose had not been properly cast so I've had to add one in.

Plans for the month are finish the figures that need to be done for the Inqvitational - Kraye, Vacetti and the cyberhound - and also try and paint the Ordo Xenos as well.

The inquisitrix is very good, her gun looks nice and overal she seems badass. I'd love to see her with some paint on the model.

She got started yesterday.  Doing her in red armour to do a red and black Xenos scheme.

Whilst I was working on other stuff yesterday I painted Drei the new cyberhound for use at the Inqvitational.

I've done a barcode again, small imperial eagle tattoo and the numbering to emphasise the factory built nature of the beast.   Working on the Inquistrix and the two other retinue members.   Can't get the enthusiasm to finish Kraye.   He's almost done, but just not getting the buzz to get him done.

The hound looks good, but a bit drab, perhaps you could add in some spots to break up the fur?

It's synthetic skin that's why I've kept it the same colour.   It's not a real dog just clothed in skin rather than the usual cyberhound.   Hence why the break in colours were a barcode and the numbering and tattoo.

Trying to get the Ordo Xenos Inquisitor done before the end of the month.

Red armour I figured as again it gives a new look to a warband.  I figure she's usually on the offensive so hiding away is not usually her plan once she's in the field.

I've also made progress on Vacetti.   I'm trying if I can to finish of Kraye in the next day or so which will just leave Vacetti to concentrate on.

They look good, the armour on the inquisitor makes her stand out in a good way.

Vacetti also looks impressive, the details start to emerge and he has a lot of character.

Well I've been building up her armour to get a nice sheen to it.   Working on the details on her now as her skin and armour are all done.

Well managed to finish Kraye I think.   He's been in an almost done state for so long that putting him to one side for a bit might reveal things I want to do on him.   Having put up the picture I can see I need to finish his mouth.

I think I've got his stats sorted on the Inqvitational wiki, but need to expand his background now Mantinanus is starting to be fleshed out.

I honestly think the thing that makes this model is the shades,,,, if he had open eyes it would be a really good model, with the shades it is an exceedingly great model!

Thanks Dolnikan.   I'm still not entirely happy with him, but I suspect that's because if I ever really paint Vostroyans I'd want a different paint scheme.

Shannow - yeah the shades were a happy accident.   They do work in cementing his step away from his former life in the PDF to being a mercenary of sorts.

Kraye is now done - teeth and all

And finished the Ordo Xenos Inquisitrix.   Need to name her and compile a montage for the competition on Ammobunker still.    Though I have figured her first retinue member for certain.

More pictures of her to come, though none of the ones I've taken show the xenos runes on her base :)

Kraye looks good with his mouth filled with teeth.

The inquisitrix is great, she has visible authority, a dangerous lady. The retinue member is cool as well, where is she from?

It's actually a he.   One of the old Ratskins.   I was tidying and saw the red I'd done in his hair and then realised the base worked well for what I might do for the Inquisitrix.    Means I've swapped out another model, but he works for the hunting party idea.

The Inquisitrix is great! The whole idea of a Xenos Inquisitor being a big game hunter is very interesting. And I think you really nailed it with her rifle! The Ratskin is a nice addition as well. Like some kind of tracker for her hunting exploits  ;)

Yeah the idea of the whole warband is a hunting party.  It allows me to have some more bag carrier acolytes alongside someone who is clearly impressed with their own skills.

Well I finally finished Vacetti.

Fairly happy with him.  Need to touch up his sleeve behind the icon and got a better idea for his background now with things such as why he carries the pistol, why his right arm can carry an Exterminator on its own, so I'll be writing that up and statting him shortly.

The warband all together

There should be many more pictures after Saturday's event and hopefully they will get some good stories to build from.

Thanks very much guys.

My report back from the event.

Various photos from the day from me - http://s96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Inqvitational%202012/

I had camera issues which is why so few in the end and I've hidden the final game shots for Marco to use in the article so no details on how that went.

So probably best to do this game by game.

Game 1 - Meet with a contact (Tychonaut gming, playing with Neil101 (Inquisitor Vendrake)

We set up using Old Guard's space station set up for a meeting with a contact both Tybalt and Vendrake wanted to get on board their respective side.

Set up for the board with the contact in the middle.

Tybalt brought along Serren to show her more on how negotations should go and Mortemer as his trusted advisor.   Mortemer was also wary still of how Serren is performing so wanted to keep an eye on her.

Vendrake brought the Duke, his bodyguard duellist, and his Astropath.

First couple of turns was various walking down corridors.  No matter how eager Serren seemed to be her master was always ahead of her.    Tybalt was also aware fairly quickly that there were other psykers in the area.   Vendrake got to the contact first striking up a conversation with Tybalt arriving just a little after.   The duke had positioned himself beside a table to watch over proceedings and take action if need be.

Negotiations started with Vendrake trying to use psychic abilities to force the Electro Priest to side with him (and failing), but he was definitely ahead in terms of negotiations as Tybalt tried to sway both the contact and Vendrake himself over to his side.   Tybalt campaigning now in earnest to take up the role as leader of the conclave.

The others moved up as well, and Mortemer had positioned himself next to a data terminal and connected in.    The various psychics apart from Tybalt all kept powering up then either not succeeding or powering back down in Serren's case.

In the end it came down to Serren actually taking a lead and offering some use of Tybalt's resources to assist the Electro Priest, Mortemer unearthing a cargo with how profit potential which needed to be moved quickly, as well as route that could be used.   Tybalt then sealed the deal and then offered Vendrake a private discussion on the topic of the election.

So first game and not a shot fired.   Very tense negotiations then and Mortemer really helped seal it for me.    This was Neil's first game of Inquisitor so a definite show of how different it was to normal wargames.

Lunch and the painting competition.

We went off to lunch leaving behind the figures to be judged and to be photographed.

The assembled mass of warbands

I'll probably put up a separate post with the warband shots I got in them and I got shots of models from those people who came to have a chat with us on the day, some of whom have joined up as well.      Good chatting over food, talking conversions, the games, 54mm, Andy's work, GW art etc.

Then it turned out that Peter had won best Inquisitor which I think most of us expected.   Even despite his issues with her Benadice is a fantastic figure.   I did suggest later on I thought he had another one as he'd retrieved her and I had no idea where Tybalt was :)

And then weirdly I won best retinue, which I completely did not expect as I was certain Rise or Neil would take it.   I guess painting them all green did work.   Still flummoxed by that.

Game 2 - GMed by Dave (Kaled) and playing against Fulgrim (Tim)

Another new player with Tim having joined us and it didn't dawn on me until later how I knew who he was.   He took Inquisitor Velk which was one of the Jakob Nielsen figures Mol had been sent and he was accompanied by two retinue members who I recognised under different names - the priest with the Exterminator and the Harker conversion from Mol's warbands.

The setup was that Tybalt was returning with information and had to make it to his transport and off the board.    We used the jungle board with Dave packing it into a more dense area (which given how long I skirted around the edges was probably a good thing).

I took Tybalt, Kraye and Vacetti.    It quickly dawned on me as this played that the Tracker Kraye probably needs his own Auspex, properly set up for him, so he's getting one modelled on.

Velk and his lot set up in ambush right at the road at the other end with Velk spending the entire game (right until the end) inside the truck's cab and the priest buried himself under the bottom of the truck.

So what happened was that a fluke auspex ping set hairs running and Vacetti and Tybalt parked themselves whilst Kraye snuck off to see what was going on.

This meant a lot of sneaking around with various people missing spotting each other.   The only thing that gave Kraye cause for concern was the disturbed earth under the transport.  He had visions of a bomb having been planted.    There was a period of Velk trying to indicate something was up to the autogun thug, but he simply couldn't see the arrow drawn on the mucky windscreen.   Must have been the sun getting in his eyes.

Eventually with time running out on the game, but not because we pushed it, Kraye was spotted on his circular route to get closer to the truck.   The Priest got out and charged him with his Eviscerator.

Kraye was pretty damned lucky to dodge the blow and promptly drew his own sword and proceeded to stab the Priest straight in the head.   Everyone else was now aware of what was going on and Velk started the truck, with his other henchmen running over to jump in.   Velk reversed the truck with the autogun wielding thug standing with the door open using it as a sort of weapon platform.    That door open business was the bad idea.

Tybalt and Vacetti had heard all this and started to run across the forest to help Kraye.   Tybalt tried distracting Velk and just managed to frost the screen of the cab a little.

Vacetti on the other hand barrelled forward and got in line with the open door of the cab at which point he activated the Exterminator fitted to his chainsword.   Fire plus enclosed cab did not go well for Velk whose arms were on fire nor the henchmen.   Velk jumped out the other side and ran away.  The truck was toast with no one able to fix it so having expected to just say I'll walk home if it became too dangerous, that's exactly what ended up happening.

The explosion of action at the end really helped pay off what had been a very tense sneaky game.   It was pure luck that it ended up that way, but it was good to get it resolved properly after how it had played through.

Game 3 - Tychonaut (Matt) gming and Rise (Jon) playing.

This scenario was about blackmailing and convincing the other party to be on the same side.   Jon and I were both playing Puritans and Hellsmark was one of those Inquisitors I'd tagged to want to talk to.

So we meet up in the mine (built by Little Brother) to talk.

And that's exactly what we did.   I suggested as the setup was explained to let's go off turns and have a proper roleplaying conversation.   What followed was a very interesting and enlightening conversation on the election, our viewpoints, and Tybalt pressing for Hellsmark's support.   I think we talked for 15 -20 minutes with Tybalt being forced to consider where in fact he did draw the line, and I do think this conversation will have a big impact on his perceptions going forward as I think he's moved much more moderate due to being pressed on what he believed by Hellsmark.

In the end Tybalt had Hellsmark's support, Serren would spend some time with Hellsmark getting a different viewpoint and we had not moved a figure at all or touched a dice.

The Election

Then it was time for the election and Tybalt went to work firstly trying to convince Trask and Madine to pull out and put their support behind him.   He was very clear he had support and told Madine's representative to his face that he had Hellsmark and Vendrake's support.   I told Neil later I'd been using his support as a given even though he voted for Madine :)

There were conversations with others, but I definitely talked to Stetheno (Andy H) and to Velk himself (Tim) about securing their support.   Benadice (PDH) and Tybalt had their first encounter as well.

In the end it came down to Tybalt managing to draw with Madine which was a surprise, especially after the arguments about the stances splitting the votes.  Well they did but only because those were the front runners.

Then Inquisitor Falstaff who was officiating called for a second single vote election between Tybalt and Madine and Madine won.

The speech started and Tybalt had literally dodged a bullet seemingly as Madine's head exploded due to an assassin's shot.

Game 4 - Tychonaut gming (again) and playing with Peter (PDH) using Benadice.

Then the reprecussions started and Benadice had arranged to meet Tybalt as she suspected his potential involvement in the assassination.    They met in a graveyard (it dawns on me that apart from the first game I need to figure narratively where these games took place across the sector).

This I think we both expected to turn bloody so we'd both bought a chunk of our retinues.

Peter's nutter who had shot at me before back at the bash clambered up onto the top of one of the crypts.

Benadice enters the graveyard.    She and Tybalt shouted at each other and agreed to meet with one associate in the middle.

Tybalt took Serrren and the rest set up ready for this to go badly wrong.

And again it turned into sharing of information and Serren using Speak Truth on her own Inquisitor to prove his innocence to Benadice.   What started to come to light was that Mandread had commissioned a Vindicare assassin for a job days before his death.   Given the circumstances of Madine's death that immediately started alarm bells ringing.    Then we discussed was Mandread actually dead.   We only had the word on Inquisitor Falstaff and so we had our next port of call.    Many questions need to be answered - not least who is actually in charge now.   Not that runner up Tybalt is actually pressing that YET.

And that was the end of the Inqvitational games.   I certainly did not expect to do as much talking and negotiating as I did.   I was expecting to be dealing with the various radicals Tybalt has issues with, but because of the scenarios and the Inqusitors he came into contact with then he was a lot more ameniable.

Definitely a lot to be playing on going forward.   I should possibly figure out who actually voted for me as well.

As I said the other game played after this will be a Dark Magenta article and lots happened there.  It had quite a lot of action.

There's an aftermath thread with other game reports over on Ammobunker.

It looks very interesting and I love the pictures of the pretty models. It is really nice to see the game as it is, not just a wargame but something more than that.

Thanks Dolnikan and Heroka.   The event was great and really envigorated my interest in getting stuff up and running around Leeds as well.

Well I've not been home much since the Inqvitational so getting any time to do work on models has been in short supply.

I'm building a Taker of Names for my Xenos retinue.

He'll follow the Inquistrix around recording her kills.  I've removed the right hand side to put in an arm, but still trying to decide what arm to go with.

Started work on the Witchhunter.   The main thing I'm mindful of is I don't just want to replicate Rise's great work on his, but do something different.  Now he's had the bits I needed to definitely remove taken away I can look at some other ways of doing him.  Almost tempted to finish clearing the head section and using a chaos marauder mega tache head there.

This one has actually had more thought to it, but I actually need parts to do it.  I'm going with a retired military officer look so for the body I either want an empire breastplate or the guard body with the medals on it.   Cut the hand ready to have the gun resting over his shoulder.

These two are being pieced together as I go along.   I'm thinking the one on the left will end up as a scabby engineer type similar to the dockworkers they did for 54mm.  The one on the right I had planned as an engineer as well, but I'm not certain if he may end up as an ex ganger or something.   Thoughts?

Then the one I've finally finished building.

This is Dariel Geneso, who is the Throne agent who runs Tybalt's main group of intelligence gatherers and off the record agents.

He goes with these two and I want to build probably another 3 for that group.
There's the drone controller on the left and Gant, the Bounty Hunter on the right.  Much less ostentatious than Tybalt's normal group.

At some point I'll get to do some more painting and work on the Rogue Trader and the Arbitrator for Inquisitor Lynch's retinue.    I'm also still collecting bits to start on my 54mm warband, but still want to get some more models before I do as if I start with what I have I'm concerned they will be too stock models.

As always the early stages look very promising, especially when you consider how good the more finished pieces look, I'm still following this with lots of interest.

Thanks Dolnikan.

Well not done a lot.   Apart from set up another event, but besides that I've finished no figures since Vacetti for Inq28.

I have been building on the side.   Building a retired I don't know what.   He could be a Guard officer, official or other.   Characterwise I saw him being fairly stoic, limited in his movement due to an old injury, but quite pragmatic so a good steady pair of hands.    Anyway the model so far.

He's still wip as he definitely needs some things on his belt.    I'm pleased with the gun hand conversion as I'd been wanting to do it ever since getting hold of the pistolier arm.   His cane is made from part of the top of the empire wizard's staff.

He looks very good, I would say that he is ex-guard because of his helmet, navy people tend to wear other kinds of stuff. He would probably be from one of the less 'modern' regiments, more like the mordians than the cadians.

Thanks Dolnikan.   He's progressed a little bit, but not loads as any modelling time I've been spent painting a pink army for a charity event.

Well I'm now converting more models for someone else's retinue.   Picked up one model in store and ordered the other 3.   Can't believe the lack of stock in a GW these days.

Anyway making 4 models for him to start with.   A Hereticus Inquisitrix and her retinue.

Started work with Isabella von Carstein to make into a blade master.  Idea behind the whole retinue is that really there is the muscle who acts as the front man and distraction almost whilst the Inquisitrix stays back using her psyker abilities and not being in the line of fire.   The blade master is designed to be the agile flanker of the group, but again her look makes her usually appear to be a noble or higher class woman until she has to reveal her martial prowess.

On order to be delivered shortly are the Dark Eldar Lhamean to act as the Inquistrix, the witchhunter Inquisitor to be made into the front muscle and the acolytes pack to convert one into a forensics focused ex arbitrator to give the group some tech expertise.   More on them when they show up to be worked on.

On my stuff I've built the staff for the navigator I've converted from the Empire Witchhunter model to use for both Inq28 and the Rogue Trader campaign we're going to play and hopefully tommorrow I'll get shots of wip to show off.

Well been getting ready for the Leeds first event and planning for where we're going to go with the campaign after this first session.   We're also trying to get the new players building their characters as that will help us write the scenarios so much.

As part of that I'm building a retinue for a friend of mine as per his specs.

Here's the start on the blade mistress.  I wish I'd looked at the sculpt closer before he bought her as there was no nose tip and the ankle was so fragile that even removing the edges of the sprue bit caused it to break.  So put a new foot on and need to figure how to brace her properly.   Planning on using Corsair gloved hands for her, but probably resculpting the shoulders.

More to come on them, particularly when the other models show up.

Cheers Dolnikan.   Been luckier with the latest finecast arrivals which showed up today for my friend's retinue and chopping has started.

First up the Blade mistress as she is now.

Arms will get sculpted to blend in with the dress, but with those elements in place she is pretty much getting there.   I'll look to see if there's any jewellery or adoinments to add to her, but once the arms are done she maybe finished and ready to paint.

First to get chopped
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF0252.jpg)
Now the arms may come off as well and maybe the head.  He's to be the arbitrator/forensic analyst.  One of the science bods for the arbites to allow them to analyse crime scenes etc.   I was thinking of some sort of staff in the right hand, but not certain about the left.  That's why I may remove the head and change the facing so he's brandishing something in his left with the head facing that way.

Lots chopped off this guy and really happy with the work so far.  The head and plan is to make him of Valhallan descent.  Chris wants a gauntlet and bolt pistol for him so I need to figure how to do the gauntlet as most of the suitable ones are lefthanded and that's the arm that's being kept.

And finally a shot of them altogether.  The witchhunter herself needs a fair amount of work, but I think at the moment she's keeping the sword and scabbard on the basis I think it's past me to replace them with the sword cane alternative I'd like to go for.

Ok lot more done on the figures and info on their characters as well from Chris.

Senora Beatrice Alfero. Sanctioned psyker, and Inquisitor of the Order Heritcus. Currently travelling under the name "Kandy Kayne".

Inquisitor Alfero walks a fine line of mistrust, accepting petitions of concern from planetary and provincial governors to investigate areas of concern.
The Inquisitor is all too aware the those who have strayed from the grace of the God Emperor might try to put an Imperial Inquisitor in harms way. She never makes contact with a petitioner until she and her retinue have already done some groundwork, and possibly infiltrated one or two members into the on going situation. At this point either she or one of her band will contact the petitioner and observe the ripples. (It is not unusual for an entire mission to be completed under Inquisitor Alfero's authority without her ever revealing her presence.)

So ears trimmed, spiky bits removed and a shawl added to change her look.   She has the most to be done on her I think, but I suspect I'll let Chris look over her properly on Monday to give his ideas.

Miss Capello. Skilled killer, dancer and dirty knife fighter. First name unknown.

Miss Capello is from a "travelling" background (space gypsies!), and like all travelling troupes, her's was in danger of picking up someone who would eventually attract the interest of the Inquisition [FN 1], or would find themselves somewhere they really didn't want to be [FN 2].

Miss Capello's appearance as a young woman is entirely down to her being a young woman. Miss Capello is perfectly capable of passing for classy for the Ambassador's Balls, but invariably has a multitude of sharp pointy things about her person. If Hannibal Lector had been an attrative female ballet dancer in the 40th millenium, he'd have been sacred of Miss Capello, because he'd have been stealing her schtick.

Unless I have a revelation about something to add to her I think she may be done.

Sargeant Barababus Steele (ret.) Former guardsman, turned "security consulant".

Barabus was mustered out of his planetary guard because he used too much force. His reasoning was always that an overwhelming pre-emptive strike is nearly always your best choice, because it reduces the amount people shoot back at you. He is unflappable in combat, because he's sure of his abilities, his judgement and his team. [FN 7]
Though he's got an armoured gauntlet I do wonder if he needs another melee weapon.   Still need to tidy up the bolt pistol and hand a little.

Ms Edith Adler. Verispex detective. [FN 6]

Ms Adler is foremost a walking encylopedia crossed with a microscope, but she is also a trained Arbitrator and keeps up her weapon training. More solid, and dependable than flashy and loud, Ms Adler will, given time, achive the results. Like a bard, she's a competent back-up character for most occasions, and uniquely knowledgeable.

Ms Adler was intially press-ganged to help Inquisitor Alfero, but was soon offically seconded across. Ms Adler is now offically seconded to the Inquisitor's retinue, as an "Enforcer", giving her cross-world jurisdiction in her own right.

Well for a start I'm not sure the model can pull off being female even cloaked and covered up.   To reflect the combat aspects it needs some sort of weapon visible as there's no where for one to be hidden.    I do wonder if it's looking more like an ad mech than a Verispex which is why I've tried to have gadgets and weird looking equipment visible which doesn't necessarily look ad mechy.

A shot of them altogether.   I've already said to Chris I think he'll need to expand with another 2 at some point, but this gives him 4 for next weekend's event.

I need to go through the background presented with Chris as there's a couple of things I think are pushing it and then it needs to be statted up.

Now updating with the pictures of the bits I worked on yesterday.

Chris had spoken about wanting an axe and I'd muttered it was difficult until I found this bit which I think works.

Then for the Verispex.   Problem with the old backpack was it looked too ad-mechy and had nowhere for a gun to go.

This fits the ludicruous nature of 40k a bit more.   A microscope device for forensic examination and somewhere for the shotgun to hang and staff to attach when things kick off.

Thanks very much guys.   Started painting the Rogue Trader and Senora Beatrice, but not really got that far.

Been assembling bits for Inq54 conversions, though I screwed up and got a Mauser Earth kit which I hoped would give me a nice female gunslinger, but she's way too small.  Similiar proportions, but bulk wise very small.   May use her as a smaller human we shall see.

At some point I'm going to figure what to actually build from these bits I've been buying.  I'm quite shocked at how big some bits are like Convenant's chest.   Still need a Daemonhunter I think if I'm to do the Inq28 marry up with Inq54 and have the same Inquisitor in both.

there are a couple folks I've seen using Mauser earth models at conclave events, sure they're a bit slender compared to GW stuff, but they're much more accurately proportioned for the scale the game's supposed to be in.

I've decided I'm going to use her as a young girl - late teens, but that's over in the 54mm thread.

Started building an NPC for Dalthus - one of my contact cards was an acolyte of Inquisitor Zuul called Theoguld who was concerned about what his master was up to.   Now that's something Tybalt will be investigating so started building his model.

The picture used for him is from the contents page in the Inquisitor book so I took that as my starting point.

This is pre green stuffing and his arms will get turned into robe sleeves.   I quite like the torch for its symbology.   Since this shot I've worked on the green stuff so pictures of that probably tomorrow.

Nice. But shouldn't the flames be vertical? I'd also angle his left hand so his gun is in line with his arm.

Flame arm has been moved up, but the pistol is in line with his hand.  It's the angle of the shot that makes it look off.

To make an inconvenient observation, the colours in fire should go the other way... it's whites and yellows in the core (maybe even blue for a really hot flame), out through to oranges, reds and maroons for the extreme highlights.
Bright colours in the centre where it's hottest, dark ones where it's cooler around the edges.

The other thing is people have been talking about Saturday/November/etc for a while now, but I'm still at a loss as to who's throwing what gig. (And rather had the question avoided on one occasion - I'm not asking so I can gatecrash it if I'm not wanted, I'm just interested to know what's going on).

Marco - I know the flame is inversed but I prefer it this way for the aesthetic.   Saturday is some of us playing specific scenarios relating to our subplots.

Dionzi - the mini is from the Death corp quartermaster set.

Then I've finished Commodore Enoch Selous of the Dalthan Imperial Fleet.

Needs his base just finishing, but I don't think his character lends itself to any script or other details like that on him.   I wanted him clearly established as unlike the rest of the group whilst still having elements that tied him in.

This hasn't been updated despite finishing the Commodore.

But now I've decided to give some focus to building projects. I'm now looking at starting build models for the contacts I got from the first Inqvitational. I had already built Theoguld, formerly working for Inquisitor Zuul, but I figured I'd look at the others.

The contacts I had were:

 Sergeant Festus
 Neophyte D'Ni - space marine scout
 Sergeant Deeds - stormtrooper
 Captain Helmawr of Castigators
 Sergeant Coroman - haunted Stormtrooper
 Master Moriarty – rogue trader – looks like one on front of rpg
 Chastener Fallon – female arbitrator
 Systus Von - lexographer
 Theoguld - built
 Interrogator Valeris -

Ok first with the character models to be built.

Interrogator Valeris.   As per usual one of the issues with using GW models is the lack of female models and heads.   I've had a Dark Eldar Succubus around for a little bit so I thought she might work as the basis along with a Sister of Battle head from the Immolator kit.   Looking at the picture it's times like this I wish I hadn't let Mol have the back bit from Rex.

I wanted to see if the guard arms would work and so tried out some Victoria Lamb arms on her.   Now the gun is definitely not right so now looking again at Dark Eldar and corsair arms.   There is the groove in her back and I'm thinking I may look to holster her larger gun there and have different weapons out to the picture.   An alternate is I look at one of the Sisters of Sigmar models as her base.

Systus Von.   My initial thoughts with him was to use one of the scribes from the old Witch Hunter set, but I thought I'd try with bits first.

This is very much just basics, but the plan is to give a cowl and collar, sort out some more wires and probably give him more bits on his back.

Next up is Sergeant Cormoran.
Now I could have built him as a standard guardsman, but I'm not a fan of them in Inquisitor so I went with using an old Stormtrooper body.

I think I may give him hair to better fit the picture.  Not convinced on the head yet.

Then to the two being built with no card to base them on.

I'm seeing this guy as a bounty hunter.  Main issue before I start with the main green stuff work is what to do for his other arm.   I could go with him using an auspex or another close combat weapon.

Then from him after I'd removed his head I thought I'd look at how it might work on another body I had lying around.

This is the Captain's body from Dark Vengeance.   Not a great fan of the model as was.   The breastplate was a try out to see whether that could become the chest.   I felt it would not sit well and with cutting on the right side I also was reframing the stance of the figure.

So I've started to green stuff the whole then work from there.   I'm intending him to be either highly religious or part of the Ecclesiarchy and am going to use Kyrinov's staff in his left hand.

I'd really appreciate people's thoughts and suggestions.   The other model I was looking to build from my contacts is another Rogue Trader who according to the card looks like the one off the front of the rpg - http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=78 (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=78)

Issue I'm having is finding a base model with coat or start of coat to work from.  Can't use witchhunter as already using for my Navigator.

Grabbing chance to work on these when I can.

First pass on the arm.  It needs more work especially on the inside.

The Priest is getting there.  Need to stand back and think what else to do with him.

Suggestions very welcome on him.

And finally Systus von.  Looking for some wire to use for going from the hood.  Never had much look with guitar wire so looking at what snippets I have in my bits.

Systus Von for the update then.   Great work by Neil101 so I think I'll give him another lookover then look at starting painting him.

My plan is to do an update a day for the next few days to show off new bits and then type up the game from the bash this weekend.

Next up in the very work in progress camp.

Servitor brute.  The head is to use as a base to give a hooded head ala the ogryns from Forge world.   Can't find anything yet I'd use directly, though going to try a Talos engine face mask.   The chainsword arm was given to by Digits and started me thinking of the servitor idea.    Lots more to do, but I think a reasonable start.

Then I started chopping up DV models and looking at actually making this one back into a commissar or some other sort of officer.

More done on the brute

Starting to get there.  I do feel I need to do something with his legs and I'm looking for my clockwork bits bag.

One model I've been building based on a picture in one of the latest Rogue trader books is an acolyte festooned with globes and scrolls.

He looked like this earlier in the week, but now

The mirror attachment will come off the new prong once I've figured arms out.   The picture in the book has the guy holding open a scroll, but I think I want him analysing something.  So need to sort arms out and I can't find the gas masked head I thought I had from the baneblade kit.

Been working on the new scribe/acolyte

Now the head works, but I think it makes him more ad mech and sinister than I wanted.  I'm also not sure on the arms.   My main issue is I cannot find an arm that is working to be very relaxed on the right as I think the raised pistol makes him far more combat ready than I think he warrants.  So I suspect I may change the head and right arm.

Beast/servitor is almost done.
Wires are attached and kneepads done.  I pressed in the wrong place after it was setting so the one has an indentation, but I will use that for damage.   I wonder if I should give him some baggage, because the butt area seems sparse under the power pack.

Then finally
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF1307_zps7fdd7b71.jpg)
I've been wondering do I want to just make this guy an officer.   Tempted by the notion of a Black Ship operative.

The scribe looks really good.  Everything about him oozes character.

The guy who you're thinking of making an officer of some sort looks like some kind of Imperial official to me.  That staff looks highly ceremonial, as though it's a badge of office, so maybe you could make something narrative wise from that?

That stave screams 'nullifying man-catcher' to me; get it over a psyker's head and they can kiss their powers goodbye.  Maybe even with the ability to render them unconscious/compliant.  Definitely a Black Ship toy!
Title: Re: Witchhunter, Radical, Rogue Trader, Spy - Keravin does Inq28mm
Post by: Keravin on March 19, 2013, 07:28:48 PM
Thanks Irisado.   I think I'm going to look at the Black ship idea and use the staff as a stun/grab item as well as being ceremonial.

Krenshar - That's what I was thinking of.   Had it suggested to look at a webber for his other hand and I may have some old RT era ones.

At the weekend I started work on this guy
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF1317_zpsda179566.jpg)

After some work he now looks like this
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF1323_zps7ceb3b2e.jpg)
Still got more to do on him, but he's far beyond where I started on Inq28 conversions.   I do really like the powered scythe.

I've gone back with the globe acolyte and changed heads as I didn't want him as a sinister character.
So now I need to find arms again as I also feel the auspex is a bit of an easy option.

Going to start on some terrain work as well as I have an idea for a mission for the Inqvitational.  More on that tomorrow along with the one conversion that keeps getting his photo taken then never shown.

Scythe guy looks good, but he looks like a Fantasy character -- I'm seeing very little to mark him out as belonging in the 40Kverse. However, judging by your own remarks, I imagine that'll change.

For the globe acolyte, I realise this is going to sound extremely ambitious, but how about a ledger and autoquill?

You could use the plain ball that's currently on the scribes back as his head, like an oldschool fishbowl space helmet.

Post by: Keravin on March 20, 2013, 07:01:51 PM
Koval - going to look at the autoscribe which came with Lok and see if that will work as part of the piece as I'm unlikely to use that servo skull as is.   The scythe guy will probably get some adornments which will make him more gothic, but he does have gas canisters, powered scythe and a shot gun at the moment for 40king.

Covenant - I think I'll stick with the new head as it's closer to how I want the model.

New update with the guy I just kept having other models jump the queue on.

This is the new version of the contact card for Sergeant Cormoran.

I need to do more on building up his hair and I think on his equipment belt.

Then I'm also looking at building some scenery bits from the spares I have and using the Luminark bits I think I can go with an observatory which can either fit a space station or be placed in situe on a planet.   I'll assemble the Luminark piece as a telescope and I'm trying to find where I put some computer banks to go with this.

It will be assembled to allow the rotation still to happen.  Painting it in sections and I think I will modify the top piece before it gets painted.   The telescope will probably need more work, but as a quirky one off scenario piece I think it should be fun.

And a shot to give the scale of the piece.    Got about 2 months to get all this stuff painted.  No problem at all...

I like the idea of including the Luminark parts, so I'm looking forward to see how that turns out when painted.

The Acolyte alongside it really would look impressive with that quill idea which Koval mentioned.  If you can pull that off, it would be great.

Thanks Irisado.   Someone made a good sugegstion on another forum and I'm going to look at painting the planets as if they are holograms.

Because I'm going to be busy the next few days a larger update than I've been doing.  No painting done outside of priming so it's more building.

The globe acolyte and thanks to Koval that solves the look I wanted using Lok's servoskull which has been sat unloved for a long time.

Black ship operative with webber as suggested by Peter.  I did have a shot from the side, but doesn't seem to have taken.

Then I've been trying to build a Torchbearer figure for a while since seeing the picture in one of the FFG Rogue Trader books.   Torchbearers are put onto planets largely on their own to bring the word of the Emperor and have to survive a fairly dangerous life.

That banner has caused problems, but this centring of it means it balances for a change.   Going to end up getting more Dark Vengeance cultists as they are providing a good base to work from.

From a brief conversation with Mol at the bash I've made a first attempt at a true scale scout.

And to show his height off
(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF1340_zps94d857a0.jpg)

Now this is first attempt and for a start I think the chest needs more and I suspect that the pose.  I'm also thinking to fit with the scout models I may need to enlarge the shoulder pads.   Feedback on him would be welcome because I think there's a lot more that can be done.

His legs look awfully long compared with the rest of the body, and thus his groin looks really high up -- any chance you could cut him in half at the waist and enlarge his torso?

just as with true scale space marines, the torso really needs to be extended slightly.

The reason I hadn't was that he's a scout and I would expect him to be shorter than a true scaled marine as he's not wearing all that armour.

The Globe Acolyte and the Officer look great.  They look just as I had imagined they would.  Great work.

I'm less convinced by the Scout I'm afraid.  The legs look far too long to my eyes.  That said, my modelling skills are terrible, so you've done a better job than I could.

I'm going to look at the proportions in a few weeks, but with the scout he's standing up straight which is unusual for most GW models.   Marines have been in a permanent crouching position for years.

Well spent bits of the last few days painting and modelling.   I made the decision to actually clear some of the bits I'd started and get them finished.   Black Ship Operative I think is now ready to paint.   I'll wait and see how the green stuff dries to make the final assessment.

Been painting Systus Von and he is now done.  Photos of him tomorrow.   Painting the Globe acolyte and trying some different colour schemes as I did not want to just do red and bone with him.  Still up in the air about whether this is working, but I suspect I need to paint more of his gubbins to get a real handle on how the model is working.

Right update in reverse order of completeness.

Black Ship operative ready to be painted I think.  I can't see a good reason to add pouches to the coat as he clearly has some under it.

Hurricanum being painted.   The sun at the centre is the only thing finished so lots to do and figuring how to do the globes which is tricky as don't want to just do a single colour.

Globe acolyte in progress.  It's now I start thinking actually which retinue should he join.  Which would probably change the colour scheme again.

Dariel Geneso for Tybalt's more covert group.  I've got to say I'm little at a loss as to what else to do on him as I kept him fairly uncluttered to represent a more undercover agent.

Systus Von finished I think.  Gem work isn't really showing up on either of the gems painted.  Used Peter's black wash on the skin technique and I do like it.  But he's simple and unassuming.

Well just been priming the luminarc to act as a telescope alongside the Hurricanum/star chart. Added a new base to the Hurricanum which helps 40k it up. Who knew it would fit into a rhino turret perfectly?

If anyone has unearthed any descriptions of Black ship residents they would be handy. Otherwise I think he's going for a very monochrome scheme with a lot of script on the inside of his coat. The outside being functional, the inside being protective against the dangers of the tainted.

The scenery I've been building has reached the painting stage, but I know the Luminarc/telescope has not been seen in its constructed form.

That's just bare colour on it and a wash.  Loads to do.  It's finally got some height to it which was an issue I was having with the piece on its own.

He has very dark blue washed out trousers.  They were brighter and did work with the personality of the character, but were attracting too much attention. Hence darkening them.    I think he combines the character he is now with his potential fate.

Then his Rogue Trader - Rogen Frey

Quite happy with him and I've kept him relatively uncluttered on the basis he has other people to carry it for him.   The staff is a bolter staff - single shot for when it really gets bad.  I may end up adding the star design I have on his pilot to the yellow cloth.

Thanks Heroka.   Looking at doing the Rogue Trader's bodyguard next and slowly building the crew.

Ok I've not a great deal of painting or modelling this month.   Family stuff, then working at Salute and reorganising the living room where I paint.   Got some clay shapers so I'll start to use them.   Mainly been concentrating on clearing stuff off my work tray.

The globe acolyte is done.  I think.  I feel I should do more with the robes, but I suppose they give a purity against the cluttered nature of all the other stuff.   I might look at adding more seals hanging off him.   Still never figured some interesting design to put on his cap.

Then the Torchbearer and Black Ship operative are next to be worked on.   I get them done and I'm going to work on some other models now I've got wire and cabling.   Trying to think of what colour to do the inside of his coat that will then get the script and glyphs on.

Black Ship operative interim photos as I wanted to see how the light worked in another place and because I'm not certain what to do with the webber hand.

I'll probably get more photos of him done this weekend, but apart from the hand he's in a spot where I'm happy.   Changing the trouser legs worked and spent some time working on his face.

The inside of the coat is lined with inscription warding him against impurity.    I thought the back of the coat might need something more, but I think it should probably stay as is.

Initial thoughts?

Not certain if it's showing, but to deal with the flatness of the hair I've done hair strands on it.

Interior of the coat.

I'm fairly sure I'm going to put him with Inquistrix Cardainn and her hunting party.   Seems to fit either her or Witchhunter Lynch's lot better.  Currently working on the Torchbearer and trying to get him feeling less flat.

That's a fantastic model!  I don't like the extra-high collar on the stock model but it's works for this guy.  And the hair strands show up on my screen if no-one else's and look really well done.  I can't see from the photos, have you taken the lines right across the hair or broken them up?

I think the webber could use some black-lining to sharpen it up a bit.  And perhaps use scorched brown or similar on the jaws of the catchpole, where gold meets silver, to the same end.  They just seem a little blurred in comparison to the figure.

Am I right that the webber hand is a marine gauntlet? Were it my model, I'd take the sharp edges off with a knife and repaint it as a leather glove, adding an insignia (an ][ or aquila with the 'a' for the adeptus psykana on a central black circle) across the back to break up the flat plane.  Alternatively make it a bionic; a souvenir from an early assignment perhaps.

Looks like I'm behind in here.  I'll post up Bastille for those who haven't seen her in a few days.

Saussure - the head is from the Greatswords plastic kit.

Krenshar - the hair strands largely have gone across the hair to give it some depth as otherwise it would look flat.

The operative is all done and in fact since then I've been building two new warbands as I'm putting Tybalt to one side for plot reasons.

Latest model I've just finished is Signe, the death cultist who works for Bastille.   Tried new skin technique, tried a new scar technique and tried nurgle rot goo on the base as well.

Pleased with her.  The lightening and then darkening again on the black seems to have worked and she sits well next to Bastille.

I'm now working on the sanctioned psyker, Palidorious, who is an unconverted figure - first one I've painted for Inq28 in years I think.   Going to work on the pious guardsman who needs his equipment finalising before I can paint him.

These are all to go with my new Inquisitrix Bastille.

(http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l167/keravin/Mob%20Warfare/DSCF1707_zps1900ab76.jpg) A WIp shot.

She's based on a contact card I got at the Inqvitational earlier in the year and is from a John Blanche piece.   John had made his own version which I've still never seen.

The artwork she's based on.    I took on the challenge of trying to emulate the art including the colour scheme.

I don't seem to have a fully finished picture of her, but I'll take one when Palidorius is done along with Signe.

She's made from a Coven Throne vampiress, sisters of battle canoness legs, witchhunter inferno pistol, Kal Jerico's sword and dark eldar arm.   Really pleased with her and her personality should be loads of fun to play as she's much more driven than either of my other two active Inquisitors.

I'm making another retinue as well dealing with prophecy, but I'll get around to posting wip shots of them later.

Thank you very much.  She was an experiment as John's art style and my painting are very different.  Probably could have used a few more oils having seen John's figures in person.

The psyker continues to be worked on.

I'm going to go looking for interesting freehand ideas as that will allow me to finish the cloak and robe rather than just keep trying to add to the colour.

My plan for the next few months is to work on this lot all for Bastille's retinue.   Brachale and the servo skulls are next.   I've transferred over the interrogator I built for my friend as he's decided to not play so gave the models I built to me.  Then I need to finish building Adept Kasno.

Brachale is ready to be painted I think.

I went with the sword in the end rather than the axe I've been trying to get to work because of how it hung on the model.  All the axes just ended up too big or didn't hang right.   As I said he is next once I've finished the psyker.

I'm working on the 4th member of the retinue now - the pious guardsman, Horbert Brachale.   I have Adept Kasno, an Ad Mech trying to stop a cult, who is still being built.   I've now added the interrogator now to the retinue, but I know I want either a Savant or Xeno Arcanist to fit with Bastille and her Revificator quest to use Xenos.

There's more info on the thinking behind the retinue here - http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7637213/1/

Cool beans! I'm sure that my Inquisitor Stanhope would get a long with her just fine, though hes more of a zombie slayer Revificator :P LINK: http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=2196.msg29748#msg29748

To your plans:
If your going for a drop trooper, I would lighten up his armour a little. Thin and round out his plate, or perhaps switch to leather or light ballistic cloth. The Empire militia/Free Company box is a good place to start. The mail is fine but it would have to be of a light substance, easy enough to dream up.

For your Tech Priest/Ad Mech what do you have in mind for weaponry? As a "cult stoper" I would think a mix on lethal and non-lethal would be best. Built in web gun? :P

As for Savant vs Xeno Arcanist I would go with the latter.

He's not a drop trooper.  He's just using a bullpup lasgun.

The Ad Mech is based on an illustration like Bastille is.  He's equipped with an old las pistol, power axe and servo arms.  Neither he nor Bastille are that interested in non lethal in terms of the cult :)

Not done a lot on my Inq28 as other stuff took priority.   Trying to work on them now as I do the other stuff and trying to get sorted for another Loidis event.

Firstly working on finishing the 28mm version of the Keeper of names.  Mostly scroll work to do on him now.

And because PDH would cry if I hadn't: I've been working on Hubert for my new retinue.

Slowly building him up.  Armour needs detail on it, all the belts and hourglass need doing.  Sword has a long way to go, but progress is being made.

Now I'm working on getting dates and I'll set up another day in Leeds to do Loidis stuff.

Almost a year since I last posted.   I'm in the midst of painting up two new models for my new warband which should get to play over the next few months, but I've been building the last few weeks.

Rifleman first and I think he's ready to paint.   Need to check on how the green stuff dries and how it looks primed as that should cover some issues.

The not sure what he is.  Tried out the arms and he still feels unfinished.  Might look at some other arms.  Had a suggestion of a cloak to give him a desert feel or some kind of backpack.   If I was to keep the gun I think it needs a bayonet.   I quite want to go for a WW1 feel with him with the gasmask.

Magos Biologis/torturer - probably ready to start painting.   The staff is made from Inq54 part, FW servo skull and flagellant staff.    No actual weapons on him.

Been looking at another Rogue Trader conversion for a while.  This was going to be Charan before Nuclearhawke got him as a contact card and built him.  So this weekend he got a new head, pegleg and a rebuilt collar so far.

The painting continues on the other two, but nothing terribly exciting to show.   They should be done for the next Inqvitational.

peg-leg is the Vostroyan Firstborn Commander model.

Using the Eisenhorn clockwork "book" as a staff head is a great choice for something different.

Unique and creepy. Great work. It's been a while since I've checked this thread out and I'm reminded of how your minis really jump off the table once they're painted up.

Rifleman looks solid, great weapon choice there. The "Not sure what it is" has a lot of character but I agree it looks a little unfinished. Everyone else has just the right amount of clutter to shift them from grunt to character, he's still stuck in the middle. I think it's the back, the straps are just begging to have something added on. Maybe some large round ammo bandoliers? He could have a 41st century elephant gun (kroot ox gun?) of some kind. Bayonet would make sense then too. With few rounds and a long reload time he'll want a backup.

Techpriest is interested. I don't know if I'm feeling the odd positioning of the arms. That said, he is delightfully anatomically correct, which can be a virtue w/ admech characters. Great use of Eisenhorns "clockwork book", as has been said.

The Vostroyan Commander is just a great base model. Look forward to seeing more.
