Title: Darkness and Light New Rp Recruiting
Post by: Necris on January 12, 2012, 11:23:21 PM
Ok so some people have expressed an interest in starting a new RP a more investigative than blammy one

I think I have something in line for this so what I'm looking for is an acolyte to join this merry band of Inquisitor Creed

Inquisitor Creed is an ancient entity withered by age and confined to a grav chair from his life as a field operatives he is now reliant on warbands of capable operatives to carry out his biding, while rarely appearing before his operatives it is known that his eyes see all, and thought his body is withered and frail his mind is as dangerous as ever, few in the inquisition have such a vicious reputation as Creed for in his younger days he made great use of Exterminatus and has waged wars against his fellow Inquisitors to being radicals to justice a staunch monodominant he is resolute in his thinking and his methods, though he gives his operatives more freedoms in their own execution of his desires he is quick to censure those who step too far.

Inquisitor Creed has been known to have Served in all of the Ordo's of the inquisition in his long years of service, at present his currant activities link him with the Ordo Hereticus. He has been following leads on cult activity (though none of his staff know the details)

I'll need the following information from anyone wishing to join (this is not strict you can add as much detail as you want this is just for me to understand who is who)

Name:
Age:
Origin/History:
Occupation: (You can chose anything from Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader or just make something up but think about the type of people in Inquisitor retinues)
Time in Service to the Inquisition (Are you a new member of the Inquisitor's staff or have you been with the Inquisitor for a number of years etc):
Skills:
Weaponry (2 to 3 only, please):
Equipment:

You will be undertaking an investigation on the Inquisitors behalf

Background

Operation Theatre - Carthax Sector
Base of Operations - The Electus - Escort class Inquisitoral ship
Target World - Mellisan Secondus
World Tithe - Solutio Particular
World Rule - Governess Edwena Jussca - Governess Jussca has been the planteray ruler for over three decades, an opulanet women she prides herself on her physical appearance and regulary hosts planetary announcements, she takes and active role in the Hope Landing Militia acting as their director, her residence is the Imperial Palace of Hope Landing which is a grand masion with high walls set in an estate that is half the size of the city she governs over, the estate is patrolled by it's own force of Militiamen who act as the Governess personal guard the exact number of Palace Guard detail is unknown but some suspect there are close to three thousand men, they are equiped with heavy armour and keep their faces hidden behind crimson masks. The Place Guard do not carry out any other duty assosiated with the militiamen and are solely assigned to the protection of the Governess.

++

Mellisan Secondus is a backwater a mining world with few comforts, the world is divided into nine counties covering millions of square miles each and towns are makeshift and temporary as communities shift from one mineral deposit to the next, the only significant city is Hope Landing the first settlement of the worlds colonists, and acts as the only official route on or off world via an atmospheric hoist. The hoist is an ancient thing capable of shifting thousands of tons of material with each lift, the hoist is heavily guarded by militiamen as it is the life of the planet and to loose the hoist means starvation as 90% of the worlds food stock comes from the nearby world of Mellisan Sextus.

The Militiamen of Mellisan Secondus are a ruthless bunch enforcing the Governess' laws with heavy hands they are well equipped with compact autogun and autopistols, they are easily recognise by their crimson uniforms and are regularly called scabs in recognition of this, beyond Hope Landing though the militiamen are less organised often only having a handful for each township they also operate as outrider teams stationed at the county blockhouses these teams of around ten use powerful bikes and cover vast areas of ground. A commissioner will over see the countries law acting as a magistrate while in Hope Landing the task is handled directly by the Governess' office.

++

Cheif Exports -

Thyrium - a dull ore that one refined and processed is used in as the primary compenent for Mellisan pattern las cells, the metal is a high frequency conductor
Thy Dust - a waste product of Thyrium  Ore is one of the main ingediants for Sap
Boros - A liquid prodcut that can be used as fuel
Eyes of the Heavens - Gem stones that are highly sought after various colours demand diffent prices
Sap - A mind altering drug that is made from over a dozen unknown ingrediants the only one so far discovered is Thy Dust, the Drug is believed to elevate psychic abilities though this has yet to be proven, long tern used causes severe necrosis

Cheif Imports -

Food products - 90% supplied from Mellisan Sextus
Plassteel - from Mellisan Primus (Forge world)
Armamment - various

++

Militiamen Hope Landing:-

As Mentioned above they act as the pinnacle of the worlds law enforcement and somewhat PDF forces, those based in and around Hope Landing are to be considered the most organised with district blockhouses and regular training, they have a strong structure of command as noted below, Hope Landing militiamen consider themselves to be the best of the best and a refer to the rest of the global force as Peeler and Wasters, they commonly call themselves Beaters a recognition of their particular method of interrogation. They are as all militiamen uniformed in a long crimson coat with a stiff high collar to protect their necks, they have a tall hardened hat to protect their head from percussive blows, all Hope Landing militiamen are issued with a shock maul, Mellisan 6 auto stub, Vrax Pattern 9 Assault Shotgun as standard with specialist training give in the use of flamers and grenade launchers. Marshals and above are given leave to replace their equipment as they see fit.

Hope Landing Militiamen Ranks :-

Militiaman
Warden
Marshal
Sheriff
Commissioner
Judge
Magistrate

Militiamen Township Guards:-

Referred to as Peelers the Township guards unlike Hope Landing Militiamen are not a "professional" organisation often formed from local volunteers they are disorganised and poorly trained often relying on moxy and luck than any trained investigatory skills, Over seen by a Commissioner who in the case of minor crimes has the power to act as Judge they will have a few Sheriff's to maintain law. Township guards equipment is supplied and paid for by the Commissioner an varies from township to township with no strict regulations being adhered to save the uniforms colour. Equipment like their uniforms is either supplied by the Commissioner and is usually takes the form of a truncheon and a Mellisan 6 auto stub or similar pistol, though township guard are permitted to arm themselves with any other weapon that they may posses and often presents an array of weapons at muster.

Township Guard Ranks
Militiaman
Warden
Sheriff
Commissioner

Militiamen Ranging Officers:-

Called Wasters for the duration of time spent out in the open spaces of the world the Ranging officer universally hold the rank of Marshal and few ever climb above that rank, their primary duty is maintaining the protection of rail and road links between townships and acting as locum law enforcers within the nomadic mining settlements, Ranging Marshals are considered a vicious lot and many of them are often accused of being trigger happy. Save for the colour of the uniform the Ranging Officer is free to arm and equip themselves with any weapons and equipment they desire, as a Ranging Officer they are supplied with a Harpy Mk5 land bike a powerful all terrain vehicle with a fuel cell similar to a las cartridge in it's versatility of recharging.

Notes on Planetary Environment: -

Mellisan Secondus is noted as having a elerto static upper atmosphere, shuttle decent through the atmosphere is extemely dangerous, static storms are capable of tearing ships appart or shutting down vial systems, there are still those who wish to keep their buisness unmonitored that will gladly risk flight through the atmosphere.

All but low altitude flight is further hindered by atmospheric polutants from the Thyrium Ore refineries that pump Thy Dust into the air, Thy Dust clogs turbine engines causing them to stall and has been known when statically charged to interfere with eletrical systems and signals, during heavy dust storms vox links are rendered useless.

Mutie Work Camps:-

Mutations are not an uncommon occurance on Mellisan Secondus, the vast majority of mutants are rounded up by Militiamen and sent to work camps, these work camps are in romote areas within the counties, the conitions within the camps vary from county to county with some camps being well supplied and maintained and others being little better than badly run prisions, the work carried out by the work camps is usualy the most hazordous of all excavations carried out on the planet, within the work camps crime is a commen thing and humans are not well tolerated, Sap is also a wide spread problem within the camps with many production factories being hidden by mutie gangs.

The Adeptus Arbites:-

Mellisan Secondus does not house a regualr Adeptus Arbites force instead the Arbites operate a partol circuit covering the six worlds of the Mellisan System, the Arbiters main station is located on the Mellisan Quintos and is a reletivly small force in itself, their current rotation is every half cycle but for the past three cycles this has been missed as disruptions on Mellisan Sextus and Mellisan Terius have required their full attention. The officers of the Mellisan system are dedicated but dispondant with little chance of promotion they are often quick to react and heavy handed.

Name:
Dreki

Age:
34

Origin:
Dreki's earliest memory is of growing up in the dark, corrupted streets of Hive Tarsus, Scintilla. Dreki does not know of any family and never knew anything other than the death and thievery of the forgotten depths, until he was taken under the wing of Inquisitor Adustum. Adustum raised Dreki to be a world class sniper and trained him on a vast variety of missions from simple collections to assassinations. After Inquisitor Adustum died during an investigation into suspected cultist activity, Dreki went out into the world on his own taking contracts from any member of the Iquisiton that required him them.

Personality:
People often percieve Dreki as socially inept due to his cold hearted approach to others, this is often attributed to his life before teaming up with Inquisitor Adustum. Dreki's has a great distrust for mechanically enhanced humonoids as well as anybody who does not believe in the word of the Emperor.

Occupation:
Mercenary

Time in Service to the Inquisition:
25 years

Skills:
Deadeye Shot
Acrobatic
Rock Steady Aim

Weapons:
Long Rifle w/ infrascope
Hand Bow w/ Bloodfire tipped arrows
Knife

Equipment:
Flak Armour
Full Helmet w/ built in range finder

Edit: Added Personality Section - Didn't realise I hadn't actually done this yet. Sorry. (also cleaned up spelling and grammar errors).

Well, this obviously isn't going to give me a chance to use Riley Hallona (bugger, I've been hoping to use her since the RP I wrote her for got cancelled), but I'm working on someone else instead.

A former hive militia who uses a combination lasgun/shotgun. And in keeping with my questionable mental stability, it's going to be another girl.

You'll have to give me enough time to get her well enough down on paper that other people know how to write her (which, I find, is often where RPs fall apart, when you don't know enough about other people's characters to know how they'd act/speak.*)

*On which note, CorpusWolf, you should add at least a few lines about Dreki's personality.

Anyway, I should ask where we are - Carthax, or somewhere else?

Name: Matthew "calibre" Sword

Age: 26

Origin/History: Born on the hive world of Velterax 3, Matthew earned his living as a hired gun for the highest bidder. He has a large collection of various projectile firearms (likes high calibers).

Occupation: Gun for hire/sniper-investigator

Time in Service to the Inquisition (Are you a new member of the Inquisitor's staff or have you been with the Inquisitor for a number of years etc): Picked up by Creed when he visited Velterax 3 as part of an investigation half a year ago.

Ok so two snipers...

Not really the most investigative of starts, remember you are not a battle group you are an investigatory team dispatched by an inquisitor to see what's what and report in most cases and sometimes if the matter is not a complex one resolve it in his name.

Corpus Wolf - your characters knew death and thievery from before the age of 9? I'm sorry but the way you describe your characters background it's highly unlikely that a child would survive in that environment

sorry, I have been waiting a while to use this character, but my design has him being given a name, and he does all the investigating into the target(not your usual line up and fire guy)

Well, this is what today has come up with. Sorry, it's not much (and mixes a lot of ideas in from old concepts of mine that got abandoned for various reasons), but I've been pretty exhausted for a lot of the day.

~~~~~
NAME: Cymone "Gala" Regin
PHYSICAL STATS:
Date of Birth: 130975.M41
Place of Birth: Ismene Hive Secundus, Sector 16 Zeta.
Gender: Female
Height: 185cm/6' 1"
Weight: 65kg/143 lbs.
Physical appearance: Type II skin, Deep-set oval brown eyes, Mid-Dark Brown hair in a short cut (about 5cm), slightly small nose and lips. Reasonable looker.
Unusually tall for a woman, Gala is of an athletic build with long legs and "well-formed" buttocks/breasts.
She has her fair share of scars, including a pale scar across her left cheek, an old laswound. Her right arm is a high quality bionic, replaced up to and including the shoulder joint - covered in synskin, it is essentially indistinguishable from her real arm.
Attire: Commonly, a chocolate brown coat, and long flat-heel boots with lots of buckles. (I'll draw something, but it's largely based on Wyrd Games' Viktoria if she had a shirt on and less wacky hair.)
She is seldom seen with out her aquila charm, worn on a fine silver neck chain.
HISTORY:
- 975.M41: Born in Scrall underhive to two water workers, Nyall Regin and Evena Thrent.
Her small home community was built around the business of venturing outside the hive onto the frozen planes to work the blizzard webs that caught and captured the frozen flakes that flitted around on the world's inclemate winds. Melting these down and filtering the contaminants and pollutants from the resulting water, it was carried back to the underhive and sold to the local communities.
This was not safe work. When the workers weren't braving the planet's freezing weather, poisonous atmosphere and treacherous terrain, unscrupulous hive gangers often attempted to steal the supply. For this reason, the workers were often as handy with a shotgun as they were the snow rakes.
- 983.M41: First introduced to firearms, carrying a holdout laspistol for emergencies.
- 988.M41: Cymone is taken on her first blizzard walk (as the journey was known). Dislikes the cold, but perseveres and over time becomes particularly talented at working the ancient machinery and scaling the unforgiving scenery.
- 990.M41: Now old enough to handle larger weapons, proves very able with her new bullpup lasrifle, defending the blizzard caravan several times.
- 996.M41: A major attack from the underhive House Schaw leads the community to seek alliance with the Merchant Guilds and their underhive watchmen.
As one of the community's more able fighters, Cymone is drafted into one of these militia forces, where she soon gains the nickname "Gala" for her jovial and energetic attitude.
- 997.M41: First upgrades her lasgun with a shotgun attachment. It is further tweaked and modified over the coming years.
- 998.M41: The conflict with House Schaw escalates, drawing in more gangs, watchmen and enforcers. An intelligent and social individual, Gala finds herself promoted to leading her own group of watchmen in 999.M41.
- 000.M42: A joint raid between the enforcers and Gala's watchmen on a House Schaw safehouse uncovers ritual markings daubed in blood. The Inquisition are contacted. Inquisitor Lyra Rhodes responds, her investigation finding proof of an attempt to spark a massive uprising, including some form of induced mutation.
- 002.M42: After prolonged and bloody combat, the entirety of House Schaw is finally executed for their heresies. Having proven herself with both rational and lateral thinking during the investigation, Gala is recruited into one of Inquisitor Rhodes' operative teams.
- 005.M42: Indirectly due to what she sees as her own failing, loses right arm to a bolter round on Ilithyia. Spends several months recovering and acquainting herself with the replacement bionic.
- 010.M42: While at this point one of Inquisitor Rhodes' most successful operatives and being considered as an Explicator, as an attempt to patch relations in the Conclave, Gala is loaned into Inquisitor Creed's service.
PERSONALITY:
Gala is a social type with a largely positive demeanour (often described as infectious) who is quick to bond and associate with others, and a keen thinker with a knack for lateral approaches to problems - although she claims this is often more instinct or sudden inspiration than actual logical consideration. One notable strength is her ability to improvise as situations change or develop.
Emotionally, she is generally upbeat, but her stronger negative emotions can overwhelm this and get the better of her, driving her to either ill thought-out violence or incapacitating anguish. (It was this that cost her an arm.)
Her negative emotions starting to show through is generally marked by her becoming increasingly caustic before they overwhelm her completely.
She disapproves of breaking or bending rules for its own sake, and prefers to be "by the book" where possible. It has been noted that her definition "by the book" does not always correlate with subtlety.
She takes her promises very seriously, and dislikes having to lie.
Quirks/Notes:
- Becomes increasingly loquacious when tired or irritated.
- Frequently something of a flirt (with both men and women, not that this is indicative of her sexual orientation).
- A keen and rather competent cook, Gala developed an interest in cuisine after leaving her homeworld.
- Gala's language is mostly pretty sanitary, with actual profanity limited to rare and/or extreme situations.
- While right handed, her bionic means she often subconsciously prefers her left hand for physical contact.
Keywords: Improvisation, Latent emotions, Lateral, Optimist, Social, Trustworthy
ABILITIES/SKILLS:
While a skilled fighter, Gala was recruited on the basis of her mental strengths and non-combat skills, with her time as a watch(wo)man having developed strong leadership, teamwork and investigative method.
Other non-combat skills included solid grounding in both technology (having spent many years trying to keep ancient processing machinery going) and surviving/negotiating harsh terrain.
Since her recruitment by the Inquisition, she has also chosen to study basic medicae skills, an all-too frequently required skill in their service.
In combat, Gala has steady aim and a cool head (most of the time, anyway), preferring ranged fighting, although she trained with the late Colour Sergeant Maximillian Pugnaerus (one of the operatives she used to work with in Rhodes' service) in mêlée combat.
EQUIPMENT:
Bullpup 19MTh lasgun with reflex sight and auxiliary pump shotgun:
Gala's weapon of choice. She has had the same lasgun for 22 years (give or take some repairs and modifications), and particularly with the later attached shotgun, it has proven a tenacious and versatile weapon, particularly with the small collection of special purpose shotgun shells she carries.
Grozny & Stukovich Model K "Wolverine" Mark III 10mm Stub-Auto:
The Model K serves as Gala's backup weapon, or a reserve primary in places where carrying her larger lasgun would be too overt or impossible, and is typically carried in a shoulder holster.
Recognisable from its boxy staggered action slide and compensated barrel, the "Wolverine" can be found in small numbers throughout most underhives in the Cuir Subsector, with the slightly shortened Mark III variant the most popular for its easier concealment.
Gala handloads the rounds for her pistol, using a somewhat "hot" powder load and semi-jacketed bullets.
Fortis-Pattern Eight-Forty Bayonet:
Used more as a tool than as a weapon, Gala's knife is a much treasured memory of Colour Pugnaerus
A 10" clip point blade with a partially serrated edge, a full four-inch tang, solid guard and a prominent fuller. Maximillian had the original grip replaced with stained Egia wood and a heavy bronze pommel.
Right arm bionic, built to Solemne-spec:
A complete replacement, including the shoulder. Gala is self-conscious about her bionic, and it is almost always covered over by synskin (to the point she almost constantly carries an applicator to re-disguise any damage).
It is somewhat stronger than human norm, and additional flexibility in the hand allows it to shape and move in ways impossible for a normal human, an ability that can be (and has been) used to escape manacles.
Somewhat unwillingly on Gala's part, the forearm houses a built-in blade, approximately 30cm long.
When activated, it juts out from the wrist (flat parallel to the back of the hand). The blade has a disruption field that can be energised from an internal cell, although this provides only enough charge for brief use before it must slowly recharge from the arm's bioelectrical power supply.
This blade is however very rarely used, and was only installed on Inquisitor Rhodes' insistence.
Armoured Body glove:
This suit uses impact hardening materials, puncture resistant fabrics and a number of shaped armaplas plates to provide a moderate degree of protection from a low-profile suit that doesn't unduly hinder movement.
Typically, Gala wears this bodyglove under more conventional normal clothing, providing vital protection without it being easily noticed.
Forearm mounted multi-slate:
This unit can perform most functions of a standard data-slate, as well as serving as the display for a short range auspex. As an added bonus, it can also tell the time.
Smallish stuff in alphabetical order: Combi-tool, Lamp-pack, Manacles, Medicae supplies (only a small amount of very basic stuff), Microbead vox, Multikey, Syn-skin applicator.
~~~~~

Hope that's passable.

EDIT: Spelking mistuks.

Any more detail on the story itself? I recognise it's investigative and you can't blow it all but we don't even know what the acolytes have been sent to investigate. And why is Creed sending so many independent operatives? I assume they're not working in a strict team, after all.

Love the atmospheric hoist (which I'm gonna call the skyhook from here on in). Nice, classic sci-fi and yet still with a rustic charm.

Likewise, my interest in this will depend upon the above. But I will add a question, to which Ordo (if any) does Creed subscribe to?

If you're managing to drag Sargy over then I suppose I have no excuse either. I guess I need something to keep my creativity ticking over while I'm on my PGCE, but don't expect miracles from my attendance.

NAME: Severino Valdez

PHYSICAL STATS:
Date of Birth: (4)394973.M41 (note: has the physical appearance of a man fifteen years his senior (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/YoungerThanTheyLook))
Place of Birth: Unknown, assumed Chartist vessel Spear of the Emperor
Gender: Male
Height: 180cm/5'11"
Weight: 60kg
Physical appearance: http://i40.tinypic.com/11sfqso.jpg (http://i40.tinypic.com/11sfqso.jpg)

Attire: Severino tends to wear a set of dark Scholastica Psykana robes for official business, but prefers less conspicuous civilian attire (http://i40.tinypic.com/33f6b76.jpg) during his daily affairs (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AccidentalInnuendo), favouring neutral hues. To an untrained observer Severino appears to be an average city-world civilian in his mid-fifties (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/YoungerThanTheyLook).

Occupation: Sanctioned Psyker
Time Spent In Service To The Inquisition: Eight years total (two and a half years under (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AccidentalInnuendo) Inquisitor Daniella Delgardo (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FatalAttraction) [deceased (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheMurderAfter)], approx. half a year in limbo, four years under Inquisitor Osmond Johm [deceased (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DevelopmentHell)], one year under Inquisitor Creed)

Skills: As a sanctioned psyker, Severino has received training from the Scholastica Psykana in developing his powers, and has found his niche in detecting things with his mind (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HyperAwareness) that other humans might only find with specialised equipment. Though Severino's physical strength is mediocre and his piety rather lacking (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SecularHero), his psychic powers and apparent ability to blend into most social gatherings (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LikeAFishTakesToWater) with ease have made him something of an asset to those who prefer covert investigations to direct intervention. Severino is also a magpie (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KleptomaniacHero) and has become adept at stealing, whether retrieving items for evidence or simply the petty theft of anything not nailed down (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StickyFingers).

Worryingly, Severino also has a knack for seduction (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KavorkaMan), and has found his way into a great number of beds across the length and breadth of the Sector. However, since his deviancy (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CasualKink) inevitably leads to information being divulged that otherwise might have remained hidden (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TalkingInBed), the powers that be have made it a policy to diplomatically overlook (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IllPretendIDidntHearThat) his skirt-chasing for as long as he remains useful (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CantKillYouStillNeedYou).

Weapons and Equipment:
-Psykana No.4 mercy blade
-Erstenheme DM-6 "Viper" laspistol, pocket variant (presumed stolen)
-Officer's dress sword, Royal Valmerine Rifles issue (stolen)
-Commemorative gaming dice with cotton pouch, produced for the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty King Alfonso III of Valmard (stolen)
-Neolith chronometer (counterfeit (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IgnorantOfTheirOwnIgnorance))
-One pair of manacles (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ConvenientlyCommonKink), Adeptus Arbites issue (stolen, well-used (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/UnfortunateImplications))
-One self-retracting tape measure (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NoodleImplements), metric units (stolen, slightly damaged)
-Bronze medallion of Saint Kalten the Hardy (Erstenhemer origin, presumed stolen)
-Single-document reader-slate with data-copy of Canticles Of Chill And Conflagration, omnibus edition (pirated)
-Quarterstaff

Quotes:
"A word to the wise: if you do not wish for others to know that you are secretly a heretic, then it is not a wise move to invite a psyker to your bedchamber when his talents lie in finding the things you would rather hide." -- Severino, on the demise of Inquisitor Delgardo

"You have beautiful thighs." -- Severino, to anonymous Arbitrator

"Before you shoot me, it might be a good idea to remove the safety on your pistol, and another to make sure that it is loaded."
"Wha... you witch bastard!"
-- Severino and unknown assassin

"Yandelavasa grldenwi stravenka." -- Severino, using a lingua-slate to flatter a non-Gothic-speaker, prior to being punched in the face

"Go to hell, you little witch bastard!"
"Judging by the heretical icons in your left-hand trouser pocket, I should imagine that you will be there waiting for me."
-- Comte de Saras and Severino, prior to the former being strip-searched by Inquisition operatives and promptly shot for heresy

"Why yes, that is a gun in my pocket! But that does not mean I cannot be pleased to see you, my dear lady, and let me just say that I will be even more pleased to see you dead." -- Severino, prior to executing Comtesse de Saras for heresy

Character Sheet:
Page One (http://i44.tinypic.com/fky6hk.jpg)
Page Two (http://i40.tinypic.com/2cxhy7l.jpg)

An aside: I designed Severino purely so I could imagine Zevran (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ceuun47suFs) Arainai (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J70salnxWlg&feature=related) delivering his lines. The character came from a time when I wanted to write with something other than just a dour old git. I know he really crosses the line into Dirty Old Man (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DirtyOldMan) territory, but he's a psyker, and courtesy of sanctioning, they do have a habit of aging a bit faster than normal people do -- rest assured, he's only 39!

Oh thanks Sargy I had the Skyhook idea in my head but I could not for the life of me remember what it was dammed well called

Consider the Hoist renamed to Skyhook

Ok

Marco I do love it when you say "I hope that's passable?" if everyone did as much development as you for characters...

A well thought out character (As usual) with a history as an enforcer welcome aboard

Koval (Welcome Back BTW) again looks good and nice to see a psyker being used that's not going to be "burn burn burn and I can do this all day"

Again welcome

As for what you'll be doing

Mellisan Secondus has been experiencing a string of crimes that have been becoming more and more disturbing to the local commissioner of Arthax County he has requested Hope Landing intervention and an active agent for Inquisitor Creeds staff carrying out regular circuit work as escalated it for the Inquisitors attention. He has dispatched and investigation team to unearth the nature of these crimes and to see if further Inquisitorial intervention is needed or if it can be settled locally (Sorry I am listening to Thorn And Talon right now)

While I do tend to be more thorough than most, that doesn't necessarily mean that it'll pass the grade.

Anyway, it isn't hugely developed by my standards. I'll doubtless have more to add about her personality at some point.

I feel as if I'm stepping back in time eight years or so, but I may just fancy a go at doing some RPing again...!  I'm possibly going to be spending a few months off work with my useless shoulder and writing may be one thing I could actually manage post-surgery.  So, if I may impose, here are some details of Corsten Godday, Schola Progenium Truant.

Name:  Corsten Godday

D.O.B: 146988.M41

Physical Description:  Fair of skin and hair, six feet tall, blue eyes, small scar below left eye, no noted augmetics, often sighted in quilted flak jacket under weather beaten leather overcoat.

Origins:

Born of Administratum stock, the young Corsten's hereditary right to cataloguing the achievements of the Diagana Crusade into the Usov Worlds was nigh on guaranteed.  The death of his parents during a raid on the Diagana archives by unknown interlopers undid everything. His life thrown into the harsh hands of the Drill Abbots of the Schola Progenium facility on Iricadia, Corsten struggled to adapt to the new life selected for him.  As the physical extortions and frequent punishment became the norm however, Corsten found focus.  He would use the God Emperor's education to better himself and escape the fate he had no choice in.  Using his free time to study the Lex Imperialis, Corsten learned the application of Law, and with it he would find justice for his parents.  Escaping during his final year before his likely assignment to an Administratum post, Corsten took to the trail of his parents' killers.

A murky web of Inquisitorially sanctioned data-thefts was unravelled, and Corsten found himself increasingly involved with foes beyond his capabilities.  His investigations brought him to the attention of agents of Inquisitor Creed also following similar lines of inquiry, and with the trail of his parents' killers going cold, Corsten agreed to join with them.  For a year he has assisted Creed's acolytes in the hope their investigation will turn up further information on those that murdered his parents.

Skills of Interest to the God Emperor's Service:  High Gothic, Literacy, Inquiry, Scrutiny, Tech Use, Search, Tracking, Lores of Imperium, Underworld, Legend, War, Adeptus Arbites and Administratum.

Equipment:  Tak 1 stub automatic with two reloads, cosh, lamp pack, data slate, Aquila charm, magnacles, chronometer.

tl;dr - 24 year old former Progenium on trail of parents' killers, paths crossed with Creed's agents one year previously.

Your reappearance was noted, and welcome - but given the number of people who've (re)appeared at the suggestion of an RP (including some I didn't think even watched the forum at all), I've reached the stage where I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Gav Thorpe turned up and asked if it was alright if he could play an Administratum adept.

I'd rather him than Matt Ward playing with Kaldor Draigo...

Still want more detail before I commit to a character but as most characters so far have been of a more fight-ready bent I'm thinking maybe a haunted psyker of the empath/telepath or divination type, a physically frail academic/savant type (but maybe with an eidetic memory or some other weirdness) or an AdMech adept who recently had cranial augmentations that have yet to fully integrate, manifesting as seperate thoughts within her mind. Thoughts?

Name: Sister Rebekah Ellis

DOB: (8)029274.M41(aged 72)
Place of Origin: (Gaul), Segmentum Solar
Gender: Female
Height: 5' 4" Imperial Standard
Weight: 259lbs Imperial Standard
Physical Description: Fair skinned and overweight/matronly woman with the apparent age in her late thirties thanks to minor juvenant treatments. Normally seen wearing Vostroyan Winter-variant (fur-trimmed) grey Administratum robes (due to a slight susceptibility to cold atmospheric conditions).
Occupation: Sister Dialogous

Origins:
The exactly location where Sister Ellis' was born is something of a lost record. Indeed, before being left in the care of the Schola Progenium on Gaul, supposition placed her actual place of birth might have been during the Cymruan War where her mother (an order initiate of one of the hospitaller sisterhoods) was serving in one of the field hospitals, and her father (a serving lieutenant with the
Rûdham County Yeomanry) met, or later onboard the Pacificus & Obscurus carrier Monarch Regina en route (past Gaul) to another warzone.

Regardless, as a young child, she was listless and bored, and whilst she was reasonably adept at most academia even the gruelling teaching regime from the drill abbots failed to stir any interest beyond nonchalance in any subject. This trend continued long into her adolescence, until, frustrated by her lack of prospects within the Imperial Adeptus, the Deacon passed the responsibility of her personal tutelage to Abbot Grantham Ty.

Grantham Ty, third son of the Noble House Ty on Necromunda, and former missionary, was highly skilled in dealing with the difficult and stubbornly disinterested, whose amiable façade masked a disarming and taciturn mind. After several weeks of patient scrutiny realised that her nihilism towards anything academic stemmed from her latent genius and lacking anything challenging in the orthodox curriculum, Rebekah was wasting her mental talents in the mire of boredom.

Ty's tenure as a missionary had him travel to many far flung and forgotten worlds of man, many who still used pre-Imperial languages, some of which had never been heard or recorded before. He set Rebekah many tasks in transcribing and translating these forgotten languages from the texts he'd collected on his journeys (often neglecting to supply any of the notes he'd already made himself), and in her studies, she had finally found a subject that challenged her and in which she thrived.

Several years later, the Scholam was visited by members of the sisterhood from the Convent Prioris on Terra, looking to recruit the worthy and pure to take oath into the orders. Abbot Ty introduced Rebekah to Sister Castranova, a member of the Orders Dialogous and impressed with the progress of her studies in the field of transcription and translation, Castranova offered Rebekah the chance to take oaths within the Order of the Lexicon.

Willing and enthusiastic, Rebekah took the opportunity, and after several decades of further advancing her knowledge and skills within the Order, specialising in xenos languages (more famously known for translating the Polyphonic Proto-glottal of the Pangolini, the Dansyntax of the Fornicators of Naal and the successful fluency of the flatulence-drums of the gaseous Variags), she attracted the attention of the Inquisition and the Lexicographers of Mars.

She was seconded to many joint projects, including the development of the pheromone reader to translate the scent-speech of the Vaporeal Musk Sages, and was integral in deciphering the psuedo-glyphs of the Charon. But it was after a botched expedition (and the onset of osteoporosis) into the mysterious tombs on the dead world of Arkus IV that resulted in a shattered arm for her (and barely escaping with her life) and led her to spend many of her recent years in solitary study and seclusion in the Order's Rosetta Library on Terra whilst she recuperated.

However, after her brush with death, she became morbid and detached, and her fellow sisters began to refer to her as; Rebekah the macabre.

Recently she became a reluctant member of a learned council called to aid the Mycroft Conclave, and at some point during the proceedings her services were unwilling sequestered to Inquisitor Creed's retinue as an active agent of the Inquisition (a servitude she has always resented).

Skills: Ciphers (Acolyte, Forgotten, Secret Society, Occult), Common Lore (Administratum, Ecclesiarchy, Imperial Creed), Forbidden Lore (Inquisition, Xenos), Lip Reading, Literacy, Logic, Scholastic Lore (Cryptology), Secret Tongue (Acolyte, Ecclesiarch, Gutter, Tech), Speak Language (High/Low Gothic, Tribal Dialect).

Equipment: Etruria pattern multi-scanner (macro and micro biological, radiation, chemical and heat scan setting), Auto-quills, dataslate, flashlight, multikey, chrono, multi-lens micro occular rig, armoured compression sleave (around right forearm).

Weapons: Lockyer .45 semi-auto pistol

Any of those sound like a recipe for you coming up with something brilliant. As you proved with Aurea Mediocritas, you write thought processes deliciously.

Oh, I like this character.... Practically wrote herself, she did.

Adept Lina Secundus

History

Lina Secundus was born on a forge world, a product of careful selective breeding (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DesignerBabies) by the Adeptus Mechanicus.
From her earliest days she was raised and augmented into a suitable adept of the Cult Mechanicus.  (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MachineWorship?from=Main.MachineCult)
Apprenticed to a secutor-investigator (who I hope to use in flashbacks at some point) who rooted out hereteks in the name of the Omnisiah, she attracted the notice and praise of one of Inquisitor Creed's acolytes and after her former master was slain in a shuttle crash she was officially seconded to the Inquisition. She has served for six years in this capacity. She is roughly twenty-four, though age is fairly meaningless to someone as augmented as Lita.

Scant months ago her organic brain was upgraded with cogitators. Unusually, given her genetic pedigree, there were small teething problems with these augmentations which briefly afflicted her with loss of motor function and difficulty interpreting sensory input with her new cyborg brain, but she has since adapted. She is still adapting to the psychological changes wrought – her mind is essentially partway through reshaping itself around the new components, her personality and perceptions gradually shifting away from humanity.

Personality

Currently she recognises the implants as a separate, symbiotic mind within her own (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SplitPersonality),which supplies her with cold logical thoughts and can be called upon to remember and examine data (especially pictorial data) in ways her organic brain cannot. The two minds are  blurring into one more each day (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SplitPersonalityMerge)and though in many ways this sharpens Lina's considerable wits, moving away from humanity is not without its costs (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CyberneticsEatYourSoul).
Nightmares, for one, recorded perfectly after each sleep cycle for perusal or, increasingly, deletion. Her ability to control her own mind is the only thing stopping her schizoid perceptions from driving her insane (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity) and the only cure is to cut off more and more of what makes her human (or to remove the implants, of course, but she's a coghead – to even consider that would be sacrilege).

Still, she remembers humanity well enough to understand it with enough inhumanity of her own to make her a truly formidable investigator. Imaginative and experienced with the mind of machine.

Adept Secundus is somewhat cold. Polite, but distant and ultimately self-absorbed. She has always seen herself as quite separate to the other human beings around her. This is not a result of her augmentation, more her upbringing by the pseudo-emotionless priests of the Cult Mechanicus. She is often mistaken for a man, with only half of her face and her voice betraying her true gender. She seldom corrects people – such petty concerns are entirely below her.

As she's spent a lot of time outside of the Cult Mechanicus recently she's become more tolerant of minor acts of techno-heresy like jury-rigging lasguns to explode and customising STC vehicles, but any major techno-heresies she witnesses (such as the use of xenotech) will make her very, very angry.

Abilities

She essentially possesses a photographic and near-eidetic memory. As an Adept of the Cult Mechanicus she has a considerable affinity with (and reverence for) machines and her time spent serving the Inquisition has given her the eye of an investigator. She also has an excellent knowledge of anatomy and should be considered an expert chemist and biologist.

Appearance/Bionics

Needless to say Secundus wears the red robe of her order, but it utterly fails to hide her augmentations. It ends at her waist, as a robe would only get in the way of her legs. Half of her face is still that of a young woman, her organic eye brown,  the other a cold mask of metal (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TwoFaced) built around a dull red  (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MismatchedEyes)  bionic eye  (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ElectronicEyes)(usually set to match her flesh-eye, but able to switch into low-light vision modes and also usable as a magnifier, telescope or even microscope).
Outwardly, her ears appear normal but her inner ear has been replaced. Her hearing is better than mankind, though not significantly, and bionics do not feel pain from loud noises such as gunfire. Her ashen-blonde hair was shorn away and is only just beginning to regrow. Her mouth remains intact, though her teeth have been replaced with white plasteek, and her voice is soft. A growling voxponder is built into her throat, used to speak the machine codes and binary cants of her kind, and she sometimes uses it in lieu of her own voice or uses both together (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/VoiceOfTheLegion),
either intentionally or even unconsciously. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NightmareFuel)

Her body is less human, her torso shapeless (secondary sexual characteristics were removed when a bionic heart, lungs and digestive system were added) and her lower body entirely replaced with three insectoid limbs (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SpiderLimbs).
They do not hamper her movement and allow her to climb almost vertical surfaces, provided sufficient anchorage (her body is heavy, being mostly metal) so the average wall is a no-no, but the rough walls of a cavern or even a mountainface should present little difficulty. Many humans find the way she walks unsettling. She can rotate her torso a full 360 degrees on these limbs and her height varies between roughly five foot six and six foot two depending on how she stands. Both of her arms are bionic replacements (from scapula to fingertip), far more ornate than the rest of her, embossed with flowing High Gothic script that celebrates the Omnissiah.  Her hands are fitted with a variety of  small, simple tools  (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SwissArmyAppendage)(scalpels, probes and basic auspices), mostly retractable from her digits. Four slender mechadendrites emerge from her spine, poking through special slits in her robe.

Lita is able to exercise considerable control over her body (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MasterofYourDomain), slowing her heart rate or consciously releasing adrenaline, serotin and other chemicals.

Equipment/Combat Capabilities

She carries an auspex, a selection of tools that allow her to interface with and repair machinery and a compact laspistol. Her bionic eye and brain give her an impressive accuracy with the weapon, though she is not violent by nature. In close combat she relies on the superior strength and endurance of her enhanced body and her inhuman reaction times and knowledge of human anatomy to strike with surprisingly speed and brutality for an adept of the Machine.

Writing Tips

Lita's main strength as an investigator is her augmented brain and senses, which allow her to  notice small details (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SherlockScan) and cross-reference her memories with total accuracy (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AwesomenessByAnalysis?from=Main.AwesomeByAnalysis). She does this continually, though not so much the Holmes method of examining clothing (fashion is hardly her forte) and other factors – hers is nearly entirely biological. She can hear your heart beat faster when you lie, detect the perspiration on your back, notice the tiniest of facial tics, even diagnose lung diseases and the like by ear. She does this continually and unless people are aware of it or well-trained they will subconsciously give a lot away. What Lita mainly detects is that she makes people very uncomfortable.

It's hard not to be somewhat intimidate or creeped out by Adept Secundus. She walks around on three legs and rotates her torso around on them occasionally. Sometimes her voice has an electronic echo or even cycles between her two voiceboxes. She also doesn't talk much, speaking in a detached manner when she does, and occasionally makes comments that reveal her unsettling habit of listening to heartbeats and the like. She deliberately plays up to this if it will suit her - when trying to interrogate people being the most obvious time – raising herself to her full height, speaking in her harsh mechanical voice (or using her two voices to play Good Cop Bad Cop), walking slightly up walls, letting her mechadendrites snap open and shut near people's faces in a way that seems unconscious... I'm also thinking she'd say things like this wonderful quote from Deus Ex – 'I see you, a thief on the roof. My new satellite link has both infrared and the x-ray spectrum. I see your heart beating. I see you are afraid.'

Socially, Lita says little but listens and observes continually. The gulf between her and mankind grows daily and as such she does not care what others think about her. She is capable of some friendship, however, responding positively to kindness and especially respect. She respects intelligence and wisdom and is entirely unimpressed by physical feats. She does not suffer fools gladly, though she seldom gives voice to her contempt. There is a vulnerability and fragility inside of her – she is a young woman who was never a child, after all - but it seldom makes it through to the surface.

In combat situations, Lita is  quick and brutal. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CombatPragmatist) She's a good shot with her pistol despite being relatively untrained due to her bionic eye and enhanced brain and could adapt to larger weapons (her arms and internal augmentics eliminate worries of recoil) but they're just not her style. Despite her suitability to it, she isn't a fighter. In close combat she is, if anything, even more dangerous. Her tripedal body makes her hard to trip, though she can't kick, and as her arms are stronger than the average human's in addition to being made of (heavy) metal, her punches can easily break ribs. She also knows exactly where to hit you, having already noticed any weaknesses, strengths or simply knowing exactly where the liver and how much a punch there will screw you up. Her mechadenrites are too weak to be of much use, but as they basically end in needle-nosed pliers they can go for vulnerable spots (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GoForTheEye), clamp down painfully on exposed  flesh (especially the neck) or just generally distract people from the main threat of Lita's metal fists. She's also pretty good at enduring punishment, as most of her organs have been replaced and she's able to switch off some nerves and generally dose herself up when actually hurt. She isn't bulletproof, however, and if shot in the right places she'd go down as easy as any mere human.

***

Lina Secundus was almost called Margulis (a nod to Lynn Margulis and her own symbiotic nature) but I didn't like the sound. Lina is a pretty-sounding name and Secundus plays nicely off both her dual mind (also reflected in her appearance, which is inspired a tiny bit by Two-Face) and her rather unusual birth situation (perhaps she was the second of her generation or similar). There's a strong vein of transhumanism in the character – something the 40Kverse simply does not explore enough. It's also a welcome change to see a cold, rational character that is female. I dislike the theory that these are male traits. That said, I will be playing up the little girl angle a little as her humanity is swallowed up and I'm even a little tempted to hint at puberty theme what with her new augmentics and things.

This is a character I've been working on since yesterday, I still have many ideas for her but don't yet know which I will use.

Name: Dendara Nachtigaller (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheThirteenAndAHalfLivesOfCaptainBluebear)
afro (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FunnyAfro)
Age: 28
Height: 168 cm
Weight: 52 kg

Apparel: Dendara wears simple black robes. On both hands she has a ring depicting the Imperial Eagle. On her belt she carries quills and other writing instruments. She also carries a backpack containing her other posessions.

first and only lover (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheLostLenore)
History:
984M41: Born in the librarium halls (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/VastBureaucracy) of Gavr II. Her parents were both clerks and she would follow them in their mundane tasks.
986M41: Learns to read
997M41: Her parents are killed (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LeaveNoWitnesses)when they are in the way of a secret editing operation. Dendara is taken by the editors based on her record. She starts training as an editor.
001M41: Dendara becomes junior editor to Valdor Vaskil aiding him in many capacities.
008M41: Dendara becomes senior editor after her proven successes. Her eyes are replaced because the organic eyes got damaged by her working in badly lit conditions.
010.M42: Inquisitor Creed uses Nachtigaller to remove all references to several of his dead enemies. Afterwards she is taken as a permanent member of his staff.

Occupation: Adeptus Administratum editor
Time in Service to the Inquisition: 2 years

Equipment: Several quills and inks, data slates, empty book in which she records interesting things she encounters, prayer book(quite worn from use), spare clothing.
Personality: Dendara is quite a shy person, she keeps her distance from others. Her driving force is a strong belief in the Emperor.

Her laspistol was given to her by her first and only lover (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheLostLenore). She refuses to say anything about the matter but treasures the simple weapon. Her prayer book (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OrphansPlotTrinket) is all that she has left to remind her of her family, she reads from it every night before she goes to sleep.

I've just noticed that Severino is actually super tame at the moment, as my characters usually go. Wonder if I should spruce him up a bit more to bring him back into line, or whether I should deliberately see what the low power levels do for me?

For the benefit of being able to get into the character's head, I'm going to have to ask how good you see this as.

My perspective on reading ages is horribly skew-whiff, because I started reading very early (first word before two and a half, able to figure out unknown words by three) and was a few years ahead of the curve from then onwards. Add in the extra complication of the Imperium's literacy rate making third world Africa look good and I really don't know how to interpret literacy in 40k.

In lieu of making Severino "less tame", I've opted to link to relevant tropes (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TVTropesWillRuinYourLife) (the act of doing which probably makes him less tame all on its own).

Enjoy :P

Re. Dendara, I'd have thought that being brought up in a library by Administratum clerks, presumably to follow in their footsteps, would have meant she'd have learned to read a bit earlier than age three-and-a-half to four. Aside from that, my only real complaint about her is that she doesn't look very investigator-y per what you've revealed thus far...

...but there is still room for a few surprises, yes? Possibly pleasant ones too, if you get my meaning.

By her reading age I meant the age that she could read real texts, not just small sentences etc. Her main skill is the ability to find needles in haystacks(there are few things harder than finding a record in an administratum archive)

I love the use of TvTropes, that site has taken at least several days outof my life.

For want of something to do, I'll compile one if one isn't compiled before I go to bed :P

EDIT: To save our benevolent GM the bother, here's a list of people whose characters Necris has either approved or, at the very least, given a cursory once-over:

-Dreki, mercenary/sniper (CorpusWolf)
-Matthew "Calibre" Sword, sniper/investigator (Octavian)
-Cymone "Gala" Regin, former hive militia/Inquisition operative (Marco)
-Severino Valdez, sanctioned psyker/Kavorka Man (Koval)
-Corsten Godday, former Progenium (Van Helser)
-Rebekah Ellis, Sister Dialogus (Macabre)
-Lina Secundus, Mechanicus adept (Sargoth)
-Dendara Nachtigaller, Administratum editor (Dolnikan)

Hopefully that's everyone who's so far posted, and hopefully I got it right with the approval/cursory once-over thing.

While we've not got many people in bulky armour hefting heavy stubbers, I'd say we've got a reasonable balance of people who know how to handle themselves in a fight.

~~~~~
Ah, I've just realised that I never made some comments on Octavian's character due to a power cut, so time for some firearms waffle:
Quote from: Inquisitor Octavian LarsHis talents were in shots from long range (?often 2/2.5 miles?)
While it's common to see film and video game characters described as able to hit from two miles, but in practice sniping at two miles (or more) is pretty much the ballistic equivalent of the three minute mile. There are only two confirmed sniper kills that exceed a mile and a half, and neither by much: CoH Craig Harrison of the Household cavalry (2475m, who needed nine ranging shots first) and Corporal Rob Furlong of the Canadian Light Infantry (2430m, who took three attempts - although to be fair, shot 2 did hit his target's backpack).
There's something of a glass ceiling to sniper ranges in the actual physical mechanics of both how far you can chuck a bullet lethally and how far you can chuck a bullet accurately. (Not such a problem with a long las, but your guy is a solid projectile person.)
The bigger niggle is that he's a hive worlder. Lines of sight that long just don't exist in hives, and outside of hives, there's not much to shoot at. (And interstellar travel is the privilege of the few.)
But rather than debate over what would be appropriate, I'd just say there's no real need to specify some superlative range. Just say he's a long range marksman without putting numbers on it.
Ah, and that reminds me - is he a marksman or a sniper? (A lot of people use "sniper" to mean either, so I just need to check what exactly you want it to mean.)
QuoteAssault rifle (M16/AK47)
SMG (P90)
One note on your descriptions: The M16 and the AK47 are really too different to use in that kind of comparison, as they have next to nothing in common other than both being common.
(Also, I think of the P90 as a PDW, but opinions do vary.)
But my real point is that M16 and P90 equivalents seem a bit out of place in the armoury of a self confessed calibre-phile, as their cartridges are both designed for low weight/recoil over kinetic energy.
This, and once Wikipedia's out of blackout I'd recommend having a gander over there, then once you've found something, corroborating your findings with info from some other source (manufacturer's website, for example) on the same item. Keep in mind, though, that if it's too big then you might be looking at a LMG or SAW rather than just an assault rifle.
With your assault rifle, it sounds to me like you're looking for something closer to this (http://world.guns.ru/assault/be/fn-fal-e.html) than either of the M16 or AK-47.
My idea was: 1 long range sniper (AW SM) OR 1 Rapid fire rifle (undecided)
1 high mobility weapon (High rof (p90)) or (good stopping power(m1 carbine))
1 sidearm (big revolver or high rof uzi)
A guy in the US military that I know from another forum claims to use a Barrett M82. While an anti-materiel rifle is arguably overkill, it did prompt me to look at slightly smaller sniper rifles; I'd suggest looking at something like the American M39 or the German HK417 for something to build upon.
Quote1 high mobility weapon (High rof (p90)) or (good stopping power(m1 carbine))
You might want to look at shotguns if you want good stopping power.
Quote1 sidearm (big revolver or high rof uzi)
Err, Uzis aren't really "sidearms" -- the full size Uzi is a proper SMG (which would actually fit better in the above category!), and I'll warrant that you'd want to hold even the smaller types with both hands. Consider high-calibre pistols or, as you've suggested, larger revolvers (which again you'd probably want to hold two-handed). Marco will probably correct me here, but I'd look for .45 calibre or bigger.
Well that's fair enough, but that still leaves a bit of fluidity on everything else you want.
Also keep in mind that no matter what you want to model your character's weapons on, the actual weapons you use as a baseline (the AWSM for example) will no longer exist in the grim darkness of the far future, at least not as we'd know them. There's likely to be something very similar floating around, but nobody in the 40Kverse would have a clue what an AWSM actually is.
Adams & Sweetmore .30 Assault gun
A weapon that suited the heavy firepower assault role that was lacking from his equipment. This was the first weapon he acquired outside of the Velterax sector at Creed's behest.
Unknown make 5.56mm Urban combat system
Given to Matthew by Octavian Lars after his first mission, this gun boasts a high rate of fire and is compact with high ammunition capacity though it lacks the impressive stopping power of most of his weapons.
twin magazine Pump Shotgun
Used when short range but high stopping power are required, this shotgun has 2 magazines, 1 loaded with airburst rounds and the other with heavy expander rounds that can take a man down in 1 hit.
8mm Sword "rapier" Repeater handgun
His first gun which he has owned for nigh on 30 years with some repairs. This gun is used only in emergencies due to it's age, but it has an impressive rate of fire and custom extended magazine.
.45 A&S Revolver
Bought though an outlet on velterax III this revolver is loaded with specialist AP rounds that can punch through most flak armour as if it was nothing, as well as this, it's stopping power is increased by the light (0.5g) explosive frag charge timed to go off 1 microsecond after impact.
Thick Trenchcoat
Has ceramite plates to cover heart and lungs. Is worn and passes him off as a hive ganger in most case.
60ltr rucksack
Has a multitude of pockets for supplies, ammunition and evidence. Can also carry 1 of: shotgun or UCS
Also has mag clips for HSR or assault gun
Optical enhancer system
tied round the head like goggles.
Quote1 high mobility weapon (High rof (p90)) or (good stopping power(m1 carbine))
The M1 Carbine is not exactly "high mobility", given that it's nearly three feet long. It's not exactly very high on the stopping power front either.
More solid choices on the high mobility front for a calibre-phile would be things like:
The Magpul PDR: About the same size as the P90, but it's chambered in 5.56mm - which, while not very impressive in an assault rifle, is one hell of a cartridge for a PDW. There's the future possibility of it using up-rated cartridges like 6.8mm SPC or 6.5mm Grendel too, in which case you'd get more firepower than an M16 in a package half the size.
The Keltec RFB: A bullpup rifle chambered in 7.62mm NATO. The carbine version is about 66cm long, and produces about 2,000 ft-lbf at the muzzle. That's nearly 10 inches shorter than the M1 Carbine, but over twice the muzzle energy. Normally, this is semi-automatic only, but there's no real reason a full-auto variant couldn't exist.
The TDI Vector: A .45 calibre SMG with a somewhat bizarre recoil compensating mechanism. In the prototype versions, rates of fire hit 1500 rounds a minute (scaled back to a still generous 1000 rpm for the production version). Fairly short (particularly with its folding stock) with a big round, good rate of fire and easy recoil.
The Alexander Arms Beowulf: A variant of the M4 carbine redesigned to fire the .50 Beowulf round, twice as energetic as the native 5.56mm. However, about 30 inches long, so not really the peak of manoeuvrability. Magazine capacity also suffers, with only a 10 round capacity compared to the 30 rounds you'd normally get in an M4 magazine. The slower, less aerodynamic round also has a lesser effective range of only a couple of hundred metres.
Quote from: KovalMarco will probably correct me here, but I'd look for .45 calibre or bigger.
Calibre equalling power is a bit of a myth.
.45 ACP is less energetic than, for example, the smaller .357 SIG or 10mm Auto. While it's a big round, it's fairly slow, one of the few common calibres that's usually subsonic. A good cartridge though and I'd agree in so much as you should be looking at about .45 calibre or more powerful (as opposed to "bigger").
And definitely agree on the Uzi =/= sidearm thing. They're bulky SMGs, not pistols.
~~~~~

Anyway, on to the new character post:

That is a lot of ACOG scopes, including some on things where it isn't exactly appropriate (i.e. the shotgun).

Also, what is that "30mm Assault gun" supposed to be? 30mm is grenade or autocannon round territory. i.e. something launched at low velocity that relies on explosive power, or something with far too much energy to be man-portable.

EDIT: Also, you need to check that last list, as you've copied it straight from Gala and there's a lot of stuff in there that's not appropriate for him.

OTHER NOTE: The forum background is not black, and black text does not hide against it. Not that it's the kind of thing that should be kept secret from the players, given they will have to write him on occasions...

Granted, but my impression of Matthew was that he was fairly interested in high-calibre weapons, regardless of whether that translates to actual stopping power, possibly because that myth is easy to perpetuate.

QuoteAlso, what is that "30mm Assault gun" supposed to be? 30mm is grenade or autocannon round territory. i.e. something launched at low velocity that relies on explosive power, or something with far too much energy to be man-portable.
I also find this a little odd -- he's lugging the 40Kverse equivalent of an aircraft gun around on his back.

Quote12.7x99mm Sword Firearms Heavy Sniper Rifle with Multiscope (telescopic infrascope)
12.7x99mm ammunition tends to go in an anti-materiel rifle, which would need a fair bit of setting up before firing (unless you have a fair amount of augmentation). It isn't really something you'd use against a person unless you want to simulate making a headshot with a bolter -- light vehicles and military hardware would be more realistic targets for that thing.

QuoteUnknown make 9mm Urban combat system (with ACOG scope)
I'm really not sure about the name of this thing, if only because a quick Google of "Urban Combat System" comes up with references to MMA and Krav Maga among other things -- which is to say, unarmed combat styles rather than ranged weaponry.

Quote.45 A&S Revolver
Bought though an outlet on velterax III this revolver is loaded with incredibly rare PB (phosphor beta) rounds that can punch through most flak armour as if it was nothing, as well as this, it's stopping power is increased by the light (0.5g) explosive frag charge timed to go off 1 microsecond after impact.
What you've got here is a poor man's bolt pistol. The bullets don't need to be as rare as you suggest they are, seeing as we currently have hollow-point bullets (and explosive ammunition!) in reality, so the ammo for this gun could just be somewhere between a contemporary (albeit more effective) hollow-point and an armour-piercing round -- which, considering that the Imperium has 39,000 years on us puny earthlings, is by no means impossible. IIRC, an old sample-character called Damian Bloodhound had rather laughably named Expander bullets, which were exactly that.

I know you've mentioned that Matthew will be carrying only two or three weapons at any one time, but even with some of the ones he has at his disposal, he's going to be seriously weighed down. I'd have a think about what Matthew really needs to carry around with him, and what isn't actually necessary for his character. He's not Rambo.

Aware you're busy, Necris, but I'd like some more details on this planet we'll be visiting.

Who is/are the Governor/s, where are they based? What's the local Ministorum like?

The Adeptus Arbites? I'd assume a single small precinct to cover the whole world, with the arbites relatively overworked and either somewhat bitter about a placement with little-to-no chance of advancement or possibly arbites who fitted in s badly they were essentially banished to this dustball.

What minerals are actually mined here  - boring thing like iron, bauxite and coal, sci-fi things like osmium and adamantium or more exotic things (crystals for psychic hoods, kryptonite, etc)?

Why is the Skyhook so crucial - can't thing be brought up and down by shuttle, or is there some reason like electromagentic interference or a weird atmosphere that prevents this? Also I'd expect a small AdMech prescene around the Skyhook, tending to, studying and worshipping it.

Any local customs, organisations or characters we should know about?

Seeing as we're talking about that sort of thing, I should point out that (as is hinted at, although not explicitly stated, in her background), Gala had a relationship with Colour Pugnaerus, and it was the grief from his death that caused her to lose her arm.
So... she's got a few issues. Mind you, I'm not shy about roleplaying my character's sexualities.

Anyway, I've made a slight change to Gala's personality section. A note about a knack for improvisation, her (mostly) sanitary language and a subconscious tendency to prefer her left hand for physical contact.

Also, I make little secret that I nicked a lot of the personality from the cancelled Riley Hallona, so damn it, I've put the note about her cooking back in.
While it might be odd for a underhiver to know about cooking, I like the idea that (once she finally got off her poisonous rock of a home planet) she became enthralled with food that wasn't actually puréed fungus that had been grown in a septic tank.

Sororitas don't actually have a vow of chastity (source: Cain's Last Stand, in which Sister Julien is heavily implied* to have slept with Brasker), but fair enough, though I wouldn't imagine Severino knows (or cares) about either that, or Rebekah's Psychic Static (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PsychicStatic). In any case, he's not a telepath, but I guess bringing Rebekah's quirks to the table benefits everyone in some way so it's better that we know than that we don't.

Also good to know, and actually adds depth to the character. On that note I need to re-read Gala's character sheet so that I can get a better measure of her as a character (though given the nature of the current discussion, I should point out that this is for my benefit when interpreting Gala, not for the purpose of writing as Severino)

Well, the line between assault rifles and LMGs can get a bit wobbly on occasion (which is why some bigger assault rifles are classed as "battle rifles"), but there's nothing wrong with just having it as a slightly larger-than-normal assault rifle. There's no single pattern of autogun in the 40Kverse, after all.

As I understand it, the two have roughly similar rates of fire, basing my judgment on the Steyr AUG,  the FAMAS, and the British L85 versus the Heckler & Koch MG4 and the FN Minimi (probably better known as the M249). I'm fairly sure that the above are either well-known or generally well-used by various militaries, so while my samples are hardly representative, in practuce they can still work as baselines.

I've adjusted Gala's personality slightly. It's largely the same, but I've taken a few steps to move it away from Riley, who it now seems will have an RP to play in.

A large, naked, 70-something Sororita smoking a pipe in a wingback chair ranks pretty high on my top 10 "Most disturbing mental image of today" list.

Not sure it would make the top 10 for the week though.

We'll probably all be splitting up and rejoining each other as we go anyway to investigate different ends.

If he wants to disappear off and not tell anybody after we've reached the surface, then that could work. However, I would warn that total loners aren't hugely interesting from the perspective of a collaborative roleplay.

I didn't imagine so, but don't let him get too lone-wolf.

Sargy - Yes of course I totally forgot to mention the Ad-mech presence

They more or less control the skyhook with a hefty contingent of Militiamen to act are guards and customs enforcers they control the rest,

I'd go so far as to say that they keep themselves to themselves perhaps only inhabiting the orbital section of the skyhook with only a handful on the other end

If you'll accept a bit of a critique...

As far as the writing, in several places it errs towards "Tell" rather than "Show".

To demonstrate these points, showing a conversation would be:
Quote"Hello, how are you?"
"... Wha? Oh, it's you, barely recognised you there for a moment. To tell you the truth, I am absolutely exhausted. The weather means the kids are off school, so I have to work with them running rampant in the background - so I can't sleep properly because I'm stressing out about the projects I'm behind on."
"Well, you do tend to drink a lot of coffee while you're working. Maybe if you laid off it in the evenings, there'd be less chance of the caffeine keeping you awake."
"I dunno. Half the time I think it's what's keeping me awake... but yeah, you're probably right. I'll give it a go and see how that turns out."

Telling it would be:
QuoteSimon spoke to Kevin, who wasn't sleeping well. Simon suggested he drink less coffee, and Kevin agreed.

The latter is a less interesting narrative, simply because... well, it's bland.

There's a bit of the vice versa too, drifting into over-detail. The gun section goes a bit too in depth, with an excess of information. We don't need to know the exact number of seconds it takes to reload (and indeed, going too in-depth can be more prone to inaccuracies*).

*You're mixing up some of the terms in some fashion. I think you're referring to a belt-feed box (http://www.ammoland.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Valkyrie-Armament-Belt-Fed-AR-15-Rifle.jpg) as a box magazine (http://www.mwgco.com/images09/collectorAamary/40_Round_AR-15_Magazine-D.jpg), and a box magazine (http://www.mwgco.com/images09/collectorAamary/40_Round_AR-15_Magazine-D.jpg) as a clip (http://www.cheesepatrol.com/images/mosin/mosin004.JPG), but I'm not entirely sure!

However, those are writing skills that will develop with time and practice.

The big point to bring up is that you're losing other characters' characters in your writing.

Dreki is a marksman too. So is there any real reason that Matthew needs to be/should be better than him?
If anything, Dreki is 8 years older and has dedicated himself to mastering only one gun. He would know that rifle back to front and sideways.

On a similar point, I'm not sure if Dreki would defer to Matthew. Whether Matthew is better or not, would Dreki necessarily a) agree with that or b) take that well?
(Although whatever you do, don't get into "Dreki won't accept Matthew's skill/is envious of Matthew and is therefore a bad person".)

And Gala, being somewhat "by the book", wouldn't think very highly of anyone going "lone wolf" and outside of the control or contact of the team, so her agreement with such plans would be tentative or outright non-existent.
(In fact, I wouldn't hugely recommend telling her you're planning on running off.)

You need to think a bit more about whether something is actually how the character would react or simply how you would like the character to react.
Mind you, don't take this badly. This is a skill that takes a bit of practice to get right, particularly when getting into the swing of a new RP where you're still getting a grip on the other characters.

I suspected as much (it seemed relatively unlikely you'd been part of a forum RP elsewhere).

Your revision looks good, and it covers the points I made pretty well. (I particularly love the rivalry with Dreki and the fact they're trying to put each other off). All in all, much more in keeping with the characters involved.

QuoteWould ammo-hopper be acceptable?

Possibly slightly ahead of everything else there, but RPs tend to devolve into a mess of different stories all running out of sequence with each other anyway.

The other thing is the assumption Gala is somehow in charge...

I imagine she's one of the higher ranking (having been just short of consideration to start the progression towards an Inquisitor herself), but she's also "on loan". I'd only personally suggest she was in any kind of authority position in the team if the other players are happy with that...

Without really knowing much about the NPCs or what we're likely to encounter, even OOC, I can't really transfer an awful lot into an IC post. Similarly I doubt many of the other PCs would want to talk to Severino too much, for fear of him jacking their keys / lunch money / whatever innocuous items they might be carrying.

As such, my offering is a little sparse, but there's not much for Severino to do. I'm not exactly out to steal anything from anyone just yet.

Matthew consults with Gala, mainly because he trusts her and respects her. (He also as mentioned, fancies her.) Sword also prefers to confide in someone (even if privately), and the 3 reasons stated make Gala that person. If you are OK with that Marco.

Similar feelings to Koval, though I might be able to get something fairly short together and give you guys a sneak peek of her POV. I suspect Lina would be the one best suited to decrypting the datapad.

Also, noted the 'mind palace' and Severino's very Holmesian breakdowns of people. I've only seen two episodes of Sherlock, but it seems to be resonating with you all. I can't talke, of course - Lina's partly inspired by the surprisingly good film adaptation.

I've not seen any of it -- it's just how I'm choosing to represent Severino's Hyper Awareness (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HyperAwareness). If he were doing an active scan rather than a passive one then we might be seeing rather a lot more.

A short passage, which is mostly me being referential. And as most of you weren't there, I should point out it's mostly about the Autumn Conclave I ran last year (http://carthax.wikispaces.com/The+Saint).

tl;dr version of the Autumn Conclave: An Imperial Guard Corporal was a possible living saint who might have broken the war on a fortress world.
The overall objective of the event was trying to canonise/assassinate/manipulate her as appropriate, and we ended with a big game (4 tables, 13 players, 30 PCs, 20 NPCs, a Valkyrie and one mad GM) where she was eventually shot at with an orbital las-lance and is now MIA, presumed KIA.
The aftermath has not been pretty, as her death seriously upset subsector stability.

There's also a quick reference to the acolytes in the internet Dark Heresy campaign I run for various Conclavers.

Also, I apologise for the word "pscrutinise".

EDIT: Also also, I've changed the text colour I'm using for Judge Sing, seeing as he deserves more than the standard "NPC grey".

It seems like most people are treating it that way. And it makes enough sense, given she's got the most Inquisition experience bar one, is a reasonable all-rounder and is better psychologically suited than some of the others (being "by the book", actually welcomes working in a team and doesn't have any major personal agenda/grudge).

It's not necessarily an official position though, nor would I necessarily expect all of these characters to listen if it were!

No, I was referring to Dreki. Given you didn't actually give hard figures, my guesstimation put Rebekah after Gala:

If Rebekah was in her early 20s when she left the Scholam, add on the several decades simply in the Order (with three seeming a reasonable lower bound for "Several", she would have been into her 50s or later here), meets with the Inquisition, works intermittently between them and Mars, spends "many" years recuperating after Arkus IV, only gets back with the Inquisition recently, currently 72.

I guessed it as 10 years active experience with the Inquisition, where as Gala has been working with the Inquisition about 12. If you have other ideas, then I will defer to those and you can assume it amended to "bar two".
Title: Re: Darkness and Light New Rp Recruiting
Post by: Macabre on February 07, 2012, 11:19:11 PM
To be honest, you've pretty much got it there. She has done a lot of work for the Inquisition but never really as an active field agent (and to be honest many of those projects were under secondment or joint cooperation). I just hadn't noticed that Dreki had had so many years experience under the Inquisition.

Yeah. I wasn't initially sure exactly what I thought about Dreki having worked for the Inquisition since 9, but I could certainly see an immoral Inquisitor recruiting young orphans - who'd picture a 10 year old as an Inquisition agent? And who cares if they die horribly? Orphans are ten a penny.

As you've all seen I've posted IC at last. Went for a double-post. Hopefully I've shown you how Lina perceives the world nicely and given you all some nice plot-info, courtesy of Necris. You may have noticed how Lina doesn't speak much in absolutes - she seldom says things like 'I can' when she could say 'I probably could', partly due to having an emotionless scientist-mind in her head and also because she's not very self-confident. She is young and socially awkward at best, after all.
