Title: phil`s WIPs
Post by: phil-o-mat on March 13, 2010, 09:23:39 AM
hello guys! in this threat, i will show you some miniatures, which are supposed to be played as PC`s. each of them is WIP (in modelling terms). every character has its own background, which will be posted as soon i will have "digitalized" it.

first, a soldier:

http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/imperialsoldier.jpg (http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/imperialsoldier.jpg)

http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/imperialsoldier2.jpg (http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/imperialsoldier2.jpg)

second, an inquisitor whose radical days were long ago, now he is just a filthy heretic:

http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/nurglemagos.jpg (http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/nurglemagos.jpg)

and some of his familiars:

http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/nurglingswithbook.jpg (http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/nurglingswithbook.jpg)

third, a rogue trader:

http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/rougetrader.jpg (http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/rougetrader.jpg)

fourth, a servoskull:

http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/servoskull.jpg (http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/servoskull.jpg)

and now my favorites:

a swordfighter, which will be an acolyte:

http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/swordfighter.jpg (http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/swordfighter.jpg)

and finally, a commissar which i am very proud of:

http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/kommissar1.jpg (http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/kommissar1.jpg)

so, what do you think about them?

The sword fighter is ace. Love the pose.

The rest are great as well, nice characters.

I love that commissar! That's definitely an idea I'm going to have to borrow one day. The only thing I would say though is that his hat is too small, the peak should be much taller and grandoise, as befitting of his rather cool pose!

What is it with all these commissars wearing ladies' coats?*

thanks for your feedback!

by the way, here an imperial guard srgt. i built last night. dunno which head i will use, tends to be the original one.

http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/Srgt1.jpg (http://i802.photobucket.com/albums/yy304/phil-o-mat/inquisitor%20WIP%202/Srgt1.jpg)

the gun will be used as a regular lasrifle (mars pattern) with an auxiliar shotgun.

phil

p.s.: looked at my commissar again...
damn, it IS a ladies coat!!!

I'd say that the 40k grenade launcher is too big to be a shotgun, well maybe a ribber gun, but not a regular shotgun. I think it works better as a grenade launcher and in fact plenty of people have used it as such by doing much the same as you have here.

Very nice - brilliant paint job - as I would expect from you - comparing your slick devlan to my own I can safely say that you are a far more skilled painter, so keep it up - everything so far looks great. I can't wait to see a finished version of that sword fighter!

good evening, inquisitors!

it has been a while, but i managed to work on a miniature this week. it was just a little bit GSing and basing.
but enough talk, here the results!

i will start painting him as soon the primer gets dry!

Love it!  The servo skull looks excellent and the clever basing of Stone's legs promise a very cool mini in the final execution.

Oooold man phil......

Lovely Komissar though, has a fantastic stance, and grim look about him, perhaps a bigger peak on cap though :D

Be nice to see him painted when he's finished!

The epaulettes work, give him more of an officer feel.  I love his pose, one hand behind his back, as if shooting someone with a bolt pistol is an everyday thing.

I'm backking Shannow up, there is no where near enough peak on that cap :P

I'm kidding, i really like the model, looks suitably stern and...i dunno, but i'm getting a sense of almost boredom? Like he's threatening the twelfth person of that day, and is done with the threatening.

PEAK! Oh yes,,,,,oh yes,,,, looks fantastic and the base is very well done, something I'm very sketchy on. Are you going to go for the standard Commissar look or is there a particularly regimental vibe that you want to give?

Whatever the choice I heartily look forward to the painted PEAK! :P

after months of working on my house, a month of doing nothing due to a broken wrist (stupid snowboarding), i finally found my way back too my desk and started something really important!

first, a character which is inspired by big boss.

and second, a conversion of tyrus.

i always thought that this guy is too small, so i made him a bit bigger. i think he is still a bit too small for being used as a space marine, but what do you think?

c&c`s are welcome as always!

edit: and i started to paint the commissar!
Title: Re: phil`s WIPs
Post by: RobSkib on February 18, 2011, 01:07:47 PM
looks good! I think the main problem you have with your Tyrus conversion is that you've just spaced out his chest from his hips, which are now too low to the ground. To make him properly space marine sized, you're going to need to chop up his legs and add some spacers in there to make him the correct scale :)

good point about the legs. but first, i need a new saw.
i broke mine working on that project:

Great work all around. I look forward to seeing them finished.

I particularly like the Judge with Von Castelaan's head - it looks excellent. What arms are you planning on using?

The Tyrus conversion definitely needs shims to extend the legs, but I also think that it could stand to have narrower shoulders (something that I wish I had done with my Tyrus conversion,) and possibly a bit removed from the waist extension as it seems a bit too tall now.

The Devout/Von Castellan/Demon Huntress conversion looks great. It is certainly original. I like the use of the Necron arm, but I would have drilled out a hole in the shoulder and pushed the ball on the end of the arm in to it, so that the upper arm is right up against the body. I think that it just sticks out a bit too much at the moment.
Title: Re: phil`s WIPs
Post by: phil-o-mat on February 20, 2011, 10:25:44 PM
i think i will use the original arms, but with different weapons and a some work on the shoulder pads. or kal jerichos arms.

good point on tyrus, but before cutting the waist extension down, i will lengthen his legs a bit. and if the proportions seem strange, i will change the waist.
and yes, his shoulders need to be reworked a lot, i hate those stupidly big shoulder pads!

i worked on the female several minutes ago, but the pics are crap. i will shot some better ones tomorrow, in better light.

and with the rest of the milliput, i did this...

a filthy mutant:

I love the commisar, he's awesome. Is the robe part of the jacket? If so, I propose making the entire robe double breasted like the jacket.

The duke head on the arbites is a great choice.

The mutant with the pole is going to be a pole dancer right? Like in the Eisenhorn book where they are in the pound club trying to track down the alpha+ psyker. That would be a fun character.

I echo the comments about making a mutant pole dancer! I've never seen anyone even attempt something like that, so it'd certainly be a first... even if it is hilariously repulsive :P

The second mutant though, I'm not so sold on. Obviously there are only four bits of metal in the photo, so it's not much to go on, but I think the pose could be improved a tad. I think it's the left arm, holding/throwing the grenade(?) - it's far too straight and a bit awkward, and doesn't gel with the overall composition of the model. I think an arm pointing down would work much better.

Also, as a side note, do you have a bits box filled with hundreds of feet? Most of your models are missing legs or feet, and I'm interested to know what your plans are for all these poor amputees ;)
Title: Re: phil`s WIPs
Post by: phil-o-mat on February 24, 2011, 07:34:24 PM
@Lacerto: very nice idea! thank you. i will think about it.
there is just one little problem, where do i get 8 little skulls?

@Nevermore2010: good point. i had that problem from the begin on, but i liked the combination of parts so much, i ignored it entirely until now. but i think, if i start solving that problem, i can also change the buttons. just give me some time, that shouldn`t be done in a haste.

@robSkib: i`m not so happy with the second mutant, too. the prosthetic is supposed to look a little bit awkward, but the left arm needs some work. if interested, it is the arm of a krootox (not holding a grenade, just a fist)

thank you for your comments.

phil

p.s.: the first mutant wasn`t supposed to be a pole dancer, i thought of putting a chainblade on top of it. but i will think about it  ;)

and i have only 2 characters with amputated legs for now.
turn psychopathy on...
but the idea of cutting feet of and store them in my shrine sounds wonderful! would you give my yours ;)
turn psychopathy off...

Much better! The arm suits this model down to the ground (heh). How about moving the chainsword head to the top of the pole though? Having it stuck to the side doesn't sit right with me for some reason...

thanks for your comments!

@RobSkib: i tried that, but it broke off several times, so i put it on the side.

guess who found an arm for the other mutant?

i like it very much, it gives that guy some king of primitive/feral looking.

unable to finish something, i started two new projects...

first, a tech-priest/adept/skitarius (i dont`t know which role suits him best, but i tend to an adept)

and second, in fact that some of you wanted my first mutant to be a pole dancer, which couldn`t be done (i am afraid of male pole dancers), i got this idea:

my intention was, that she holds herself on the pole with a nunchaku wrapped around it.

but there is a big problem, she came with two left legs. does anybody have a spare right leg?

c&c`s welcome as always!

If it was bought from GW, try pinging them and telling them you got two left legs. They're quite good with sorting out that kind of thing and may well send you a replacement part.
