Title: Finished work and WIP
Post by: Kresten on August 14, 2010, 06:37:37 PM
Hello, these are my miniatures, unfortunately I'm over my monthly limit of photos on Flickr, so havent put up pictures of my Corvus Marine, Psyker or Gene S. Cultist. Something to look forward to!

Comments welcome. I know the photos arent great, need to use harder light, but I think they're ok. I've got full backgrounds for Morseccio and almost Arx, so will be posting those soon. Hope you enjoy!

Oh man, when I saw the first image my jaw dropped.  These are amazing!  I personally never liked the 54mm scale, and never had any desire to do models of my own in that scale, but you've provided something that may sway me a bit.  I love the style of these guys.  It's almost steampunk, but not quite, and that really sets the apart.  The rogue trader is my favorite, and I can't wait to see what Inquisitor Arx is going to look like when he's finished.  With a mustache like that, you can't go too far wrong.

I would say your namesake is also a fantastic model, myself being a steampunk fan! Aside though, all the paintjob are absolutely fantastic, the palette of colours very much to my taste!.

Only criticism I have is that Furinar seems to me leaning back a bit on his base, but may just be the pic and my dodgy eyes :)

Look forward to seeing the rest painted as weel!

Thanks very much guys! Really good to hear.

@Shannow yeh i gues he is a bit far back. It's weird you can only really notice it from that angle. But both he and Anarinar are a few years old and have suffered greatly in house movings, so there are some issues with them. Ill get round to sorting them out one day.

@Dexter thanks mate! Really appreciate your words there. 54mm is great, you can do so much with the scale. I've been heavily influened by Blanche recently and wanted to make them kind of bizarre, I think 40k is pretty much medievalpunk, or like the man himself says punk fantasy. I've done the hair on Arx now and he looks like the frontman from motorhead now!

@Heroka thanks!

Anyone got any name ideas for my feral gunslinger, or suggestions as to why Blume's Necron gauss flayer hasn't phased out yet?

The stats in the rulebook for the gauss flayer are generally accepted to represent reproduction imperial tech flayer, and so it wouldn't phase out. However I think with these things you can often just make a mystery of it and don't have to give a proper answer. How did he get it to not phase out? No one knows...... oooooooh mystery!! :D

I like the idea of a necron flayer, makes him more mysterious i think, how did he get it? how does he have the knowledge to keep it etc. So I think I may just leave it to mystery. He is heretikal so maybe hes managed to coat it in some warp-reactive alien gunk that does something or some sort of unstable stasis field. I like the idea of something backfiring on my characters for some reason, I think it makes them more real if theyre doing something stupid sometimes or are in denial. More human. Like Morseccio, he's slowly being driven insane and is being corrupted by alien technology, destined to ....  ;) and Blume definitely uses all sorts of alien tech and has a cyber-mantle that was installed by a renegade heretek Magos that cause him no end of problems...

ALso if you like Kresten read his bio http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=972.0 (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=972.0)here and crit that! (please)  :)

Thanks again guys! I think the mini works well as a rogue trader, gives him more of a movie villain feel I think.

@ Dexter yeh he definitely looks like a 40k metal head with his hair, arms and hammer, and maybe he is, surely they have heavy music in the 41st millenium?

More pictures coming soon...

Disaster Area - loudest rock band in the galaxy, considered a weapon of mass destruction. Best listened to from at least the next system over...

It should be noted that this is from Hitchhiker's Guide, not 40K. But I think Necromunda makes reference to Slam Music or something, and of course there is Goffik Rokk.

I haven't talked to a Games Workshop employee yet that hasn't felt that death metal is the official soundtrack of the 41st millennium.  Sometimes the stores have some sort of crappy classical/techno mix going on, but I think they're just trying to sound futuristic.  Metal captures the mood.

Consequently, you may have inspired me to build a Glenn Danzig.

Interesting, I've always felt classical pieces, such as danse macabre and moonlight sonata capture the darkness of the imperial battlefield against darkness and especially the dark shadowy world of inquisitor.

But each to his own :) and being a big misfits fan, I do so approve of a danzig model :P

Yeah the classical pieces do okay capturing the mood of Inquisitor, but they don't do justice for a WAAAGH of Orks or a warband of World Eaters tearing across a battle field with the intent of murdering everyone that isn't them (and possible a few that are).

REALLY looking forward to seeing the updated Inquisitor piece :)

I'm loving the marine so far. Looks exactly like he's been stranded on his own for a long while, being forced to make his own weapons and repairs to his armour.

As for the psyker, you could give him a wand of some kind. I may or may not have suggested that because something about him reminds me of Dumbledore . . .

I vote for severed head :D its what everyone wants for christmas....

I will also echo the comments on the marine, excellent work done there and the studs look fantastic, nice to read the technique in another thread then see in action.

Is there a whole cult being built with the genestealer btw?

That's exactly what I was going for. A good way to power him down a bit. Also as a Marine Malevolent, who're basically just 8ft tall pirates, I dont think they'd be overly upset about a brother being left behind or really try to find him. Theyre so utilitarian that they probably wouldnt waste the fuel.

@Shannow I've got another cultists head and arm so I may do so in the near future. I got really into the idea of making one then for some reason the fire went out. I've got the genestealer which I was painstakingly slogging on with painting until I knocked him over and he smashed into itty bitty pieces... I dont know why but I've never liked painting monsters and things like that. Ive still got a load of giant spiders I made as NPC gribblys that have not seen a lick of paint...

Anyway thanks for the comments, nice to have your work appreciated! I've got a project plan which goes like this...

1. Finish painting Arx
2. Do his feral buddy (Itashnah)
3. Paint Marine
4. Build an arvus lighter or if I can somehow manage it, an Aquila lander
5. do the happy dance once Ive done these
6. Build a Solar priest as another companion for Arx
7. maybe start on the genestealer/cultist and psyker if i havent been distracted by other ideas by then!

So lots to be getting on with!

I know what you mean, I have that at the moment, some great ideas but lacking drive really :(

However I look forward to seeing your plans for work progress and I demand a picture of this happy dance :P

Hi guys, sorry for the threadnomancy, its been a while since Ive been on here. Unfortunately Inquisitor is a very expensive and time consuming hobby and when youre trying to set up a business and save, kind of impossible, but I have been a solid lurker and its great to see so many people making stuff. Anyway Im now having to sell my collection so a fair few of these models are now up for sale, please have a look here

not long to go now! Probably should have posted here first eh?

thanks guys and keep up the great work :)

Aha! I was wondering who those belonged too. Inquisitor models on ebay are few and far-between, and it's even rarer for them to be of such high quality!

Only a proper 'claver is mad enough to undergo a 54mm Chimera project ;)

He's done some work on it since, but the bulk of the Chimera was something he won off eBay (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1002.0) about a year back.

Of course, anyone who even owns a 54mm Chimera is probably a proper 'Claver nonetheless.
