Inquisitor FAQ leaflet

So, as mentioned before I'm working on a leaflet containing shortened version of the FAQ I wrote that we can hand out at Conclave events (or clubs etc) in an attempt to better inform people about the game and maybe convince them to give it a try.

So far the plan calls for a tri-fold leaflet. The cover will be a picture and a bit of blurb about the battle for the emperor's soul, and inside there'll be the FAQ interspersed with pictures. The back will probably be a few pictures of games in progress plus a few captions.

That leaves one side still to fill - I could expand the FAQ but I thought I'd see if anyone has any other good ideas to fill that space?

Talk about the fact that the conclave has pretty much taken over development and responsibility for the game itself. Once upon a time, it was GW's, but now it's ours.

We could also talk about the the Upcoming INQ II project, and how that will be developed. Talk about the prices and the modelling possibilites of using other ranges. After all, we can talk about it even if GW can't or won't.

Do you want graphic design and copy-writing support for this? I could knock something together if you'd like?

Ferran

I designed a tri-fold leaflet for a company I worked for once. The boss wasn't too pleased, said it looked like a pizza leaflet. I always think of them like that now. Not so bad for a leaflet providing game information ofc. One thing I would avoid though is mention of Inq2. Seems to have been in development for about (many)yrs now without much sign of nearing completion, personally I wouldn't include it as a recruitment tool until it's in use.

I would list themain advantages, price, modelling opportunities, background, no worries about points, such things.
Circles of the wise My attempt at writing something, please comment on it if you have any advise.

Thanks for the offer Ulgavitch but I'm planning to enlist my girlfriend's help - she's pretty good at this type of thing. The layout/design will be pretty simple to keep it printer-friendly as I'll be expecting people to print these out at home.

One thing that maybe someone could help me with is a Conclave logo in black on a white background instead of white on a black background?

Most of the things that have been suggested are already covered in the FAQ. I was thinking more about something that would give people a flavour of what the game is about, rather than just facts about it. Something to pique their interest or get them excited about the opportunities it offers. Not sure what though...

Here you go for the reversed Conclave logo - http://bit.ly/iOATea

Is that the kind of thing you are looking for. As for the Unique Selling Point of Inquisitor ... I'll give it some thought. What are you using as the tagline? 'Everything you have been told is a lie?'

GAZKUL

Damn i wish we had a rep system for little sparks of awsomeness like that one ^

on topic, i second the opinion to show what non-GW models people have used in the past and possibly a bit of advice on character generation. try to emphasize the difference between INQ and other GW games, in particular the room for expansion and creativity it offers.

I'll have to wait until I get home to look at that logo, but I'm sure it'll be fine - thanks.

Maybe I could include a few examples of characters (inc. very brief background and profiles) to illustrate the scope of who  people can use. I wonder if I can fit in a sample warband. Does that sound like a good idea?

The thing that always drew me to a game was an exciting introductory battle report - the kind of one that has sidebars to illustrate the rules so after reading it I have an idea of how the game plays. Maybe someone could do something like that?

One of inquisitors main draws is the large detailed figures.. I vote for a collage of the prettiest minis from the contests :-)
i make no apologies, i warned you my ability to roll ones was infectious...

I like that idea a lot. Would it be worth doing a narrative turn, rather than an entire battle report, with the actual mechanics in the sidebar to explain how it turns from the game to the story. I think an entire report would actually be far too long for a leaflet (on average, a person will only glance at a leaflet for a minute or so at best, you can't get too much across).

In terms of linked up strategies, we could do an entire, professional looking battle report as part of the initial conclave documents, which would expand upon the example within the leaflet.

For example (and strictly for example):

Nico the heretic saw the approaching Inquisitor, who had driven him into cover with a volley of fire which whistled over his head. Looking towards the window, Nico saw his only chance to escape. He lept up, fired a shot at the Inquisitor to drive him back, and then threw himself sideways through the nearby window. Rolling as he hit the floor, Nico cursed the glass cuts covering him, and then ran for the door. Maybe this time, he'd manage to get away.

Bursting out through the door, he looked up to see the shape above him. Thin legged and wielding a sword, the death cultist fell upon Nico, who barely had time to see her coming. Despite desperately parrying the first blow and frantically dodging out of the way of the second, the final swipe severed his head from his body. Another dead heretic cursed the Emperors name in his last moments. The Emperors will be done...

Then an explanation in a sidebar of the mechanics:

Nico the Heretic has speed 4, because he has Initiative 53. He is allowed to make four action each turn which the player declares before hand. He nominates that Nico will stand, shoot, leap through the window and then sprint for the door. To succeed at an action he must roll an equal number of d6's, and get a four or more. The player rolls for success, so Nico stands, and then tests against his ballistic skill of 55 to fire. He does so, and misses by not rolling high enough, so moves to his next action. The GM declares that he must take a initiative test to leap through the window, and he passes, taking a damage roll from the flying glass as he does so. Then Nico measures one sprint action, which gets him out of the buildings rear door.

But then the death cultist, who has a higher speed value, declares that she is going to move ...

i always liked the sample turn in the inquisitor rulebook i thought it was very clear and something like that would show how easy the game is to pick up (considering how it differs in gameplay terms to gw's big 3, learning a new complicated system might put people off)

the other option is to provide a selection of links that cover large scale modelling, sometimes people get an idea in there head and it snowballs into turning up at the igt slightly late and bewildered borrowing models and having a bloody fantastic day out.

other than that derek wrote a brilliant article on how he saw Inquisitor as a Narrative Visualization  and i loved it. It's the right way to look at the game and the different style of war gaming/storytelling again might inspire people and get them hooked

@ferran - Justified criticism noted.

I was thinking of the introductory battle report as being a separate thing, maybe for DM. Not sure I could do it justice the idea a leaflet.

Still, I think that sort of battle report would be well worth doing, a useful recruiting tool Now to find a volunteer to write it...

There was something that PO came up with, a paragraph which among other things has the phrase "wargaming for poets" and "if this is heresy, it feels so good!"
Questions are a burden to others, answers a burden to oneself.

Anyone have a link to that quote from PO? I might be able to find a space for it...
