Necron NPC Squad

So, probably about a year ago now i made these Necrons from the Plastic skeletons you can get on the cheap from ebay. I intended on leaving pictures of them for a surprise in an article for DM about Necron NPCs, but since was sent off to Uni, where i found i had more than enough writing already! I still have the NOC rules Dave and I used for these Necrons, and still unseen photos of a Necron tomb and Obelisk, so if there's still interest, i could still make a DM article on Necron NPCs, but for now, have some pictures of the Necrons I made...

Apologies for somewhat unclear photos. My camera was refusing to focus, no matter how much i fiddled with settings...

Nice work, they turned out pretty cool looking. Any thoughts on what their background is going to be since they're NPCs?

Already played a campaign with 'em, actually!

I don't know whether Dave still has hopes of turning the campaign into a DM article (i owe him a profuse apology for my unexplained and prolonged absence - sorry; that horrible 'real life' thing has eaten into my Inquisitor time!) Without giving too much away, imagine a group of character find themselves on a desert-world because they hear they could acquire valuable xenos tech there (there have been strange goings on...). Now imagine that xenos tech is beyond their wildest dreams... or nightmares :p

More generally, i'm building up a selection of NPCs, so i can start an Inq club at my college/uni, so these Necrons are a general player deterrent. Maybe if a game drags on too long, i, as GM, decide they've spent too long on the planet and have awoken the old inhabitants of said planet... Maybe, as a game setting, players must try and 'GET TO DA CHOPPA' to escape a horrible fate on this remote, ancient world, but something stands in between them and escape.

Generally a nasty GM can find a multitude of use for powerful NPCs, as deterrents, or otherwise.

Thanks for the comment, always glad to hear input

I'm actually surprised just how well these have come out. I'd thought the cyborgs, perhaps with the skelly heads would've been better, but these more than suffice as-is. The right lick of paint makes all the difference.
It's all fun and games until someone shoots their own guy with a Graviton gun instead of the MASSIVE SPIDER.

Their arms are a pain in the arse to re-shape though, and it took a fair bit of pinning and greenstuff filling to get them in stable, believable, gunwielding positions. After that, though, all i had to do was put the guitar wire in their ribcages and attach the weaponary and they were ready to paint!

I think the transfers are what really made them though; and although it's hard to see on the photos, they also have Necron symbols on their foreheads and shoulderguards too!

In terms of paint, they were surprisingly easy. Tin bitz with botlgun metal drybrush and badab black wash, and then all that was left was dark angels green, highlighted with goblin green for the eyes, rags and other bits.

Thanks for the comment

Welcome back, good to hear you're still going with Inquisitor. I think you were right when you said that too much time has passed to do a proper write up of those games - maybe we should just sort out the pictures and post those... It was a good campaign and a lot of fun - the Necrons looked great on the table, especially with the Necrons-themed terrain.
I like to remember things my own way... Not necessarily the way they happened.

Once again, i do apologise for falling behind on that; i actually did a good few pages' worth of writing for it before i had to leave for uni, but once i did, between that, living in another part of the country, and some health issues i had, i really didn't get much time for it. i never intended giving up on Inquisitor at all, or evern putting it on hold for as long as i did, but hopefully i'll get a bit more time for it this year.

Still, i'd be more than happy compiling the NPC rules we made, pictures of the necrons, both alone and in action, and some fluff/ description work and making a short article on Necron NPCs in Inquisitor, if anyone thinks it'd be worth it. Otherwise, i can always just add the NPC rules here for reference if people want them.

At any rate, this old work won't be my only offering; i'm just putting the finishing touches to a gang of Escher NPCs, and then they'll be ready for painting (and havng their photos taken!)
