Aidan - Marshal Amer's... Crew...

Another edition to my equivalent of a 'retrospective', my largest group, Marshal Amers' rebel band. The Marshal is the ideological leader of a small, professional army that includes some of the best human soldiers in the sector... unfortunately, circumstance has seen him currently far from his forces, accompanied by a mob of mistfits from his thrid-rate reserve squads. That's life for you, Amers.

- - - - -

First, Amers himself. He my the longest running character in the 41st (now 42nd) milleneum, going all the way back to some of my early 40k days. He's nearing the end of his run, too, but he can still crack a few skulls on hsi way out. Born Adrius Salistur, he was a war-hero, was cryogenically preserved for a few thousand years, fought another war, tried his hand in politics, and is now a reluctant revolutionary icon and struggling between burnout and a last chance to realise some measure of his dreams - he's seen it all, he's done it all, and he really, really would like a break.

After all that, it's a rather anti-climactic model, isn't it? That's the idea. I quite like it, and I'll keep it, even after the character it represents is finally dead and gone.

- - - - -

Commandante Asther Raene, the only really accomplished soldier on Amer's crew, and his biggest rival. She's been in the terrorist trade almost all her life and is much more idealistic than Amers. She's prettier, too. They had a loving relationship once, but that's far behind them as they see their views getting increasingly divergent.

This is the second incarnation of Raene's model, but not much has changed - she used to be in the standard running pose of Barbaretta, and then I saw that someone had stood her up without repositioning the legs and thought it was great idea.

- - - - -

Mauritus Jaykar, an amoral, self-interested lout who once served Inquisitor Hezerus - but ended up tacking on to Amer's crew to escape imprisonment and/or execution. He has a certain amount of charm, though. (Think FireFly's Jayne, but more intelligent).

Again, a second incarnation. He and Dirril (see below) were made at the same time, so swapping their boots was a given, to help make the models less 'standard'. I've always though Jaykar leans a little too far forward, though.

- - - - -

Diraan Amriil 'Dirril', who, contrary to first impressions, is actually the biggest brain on the team - but only a halfway decent shot. He's independent, self-assured to the point of arrogance, and seems pathologically incapable of following orders, since he almost always knows better. Lots of fun to a GM who uses this.

Another of my favourites, Dirril's top half is sculpted over a 'generic' frame. He's not quite human (anymore) and ages very slowly, so I gave him the youngest-looking head I could find, from the bounty hunter, and sculpted a more stylish hairdo.

- - - - -

Trooper Erris Lascar, a deserter from the Darcanin Grenadiers, who owes Amers his life many times over, and is consequently his most loyal soldier on the crew. The first model I almost entirely sculpted myself, so he's not the best, but I'm okay with it.

He's basically one of my Darcanin Grenadiers from one my 40k armies, who look like this, although LAscar has since discarded the heavier armour plate:

- - - - -

Gira Tieve, originally a hive-ganger from Varrus Majoris. She's not the brightest, but is combat savvy and has enough sense of style to make up for it.

Somewhere underneath all that is one of the assassin twins, trust me, and I assure you she's plenty womanly beneath that big, bulky padded jacket. I've never been that happy with her arms, though, so this is one of my not-so-good models. The gun uses the profile of one of the original armoury's duelling pistols, and is a prized trophy. Her knife is super-hard, non-reflective polymer, good for sneaking and getting past detectors.

- - - - -

Raevvo Tuan, the stocky little psyker and an old friend of Amers. He's mostly just clothing sculpted on a generic, with the trademark green tunic of his particular terrorist-movement-of-origin.

- - - - -

The pilot, Vanander Cambras, really pro until someone mistakes him for a fighter pilot. Honestly - why should all good pilots specialise in dogfighting?

Not such a good conversion, sadly, since he was my first experiment at majorly repositioning a model's legs. If he survives the current campaign, I'll probably redo him.

- - - - -

Finally, Sasta Peronne, a trainee pilot of similar background to Vanander, and unwise beyond her years. She's useless in combat, even worse at good judgement, but can always add a little flavour to a scenario.

Nice work on the self sculpts. They do tend to have the characteristic rubber-limbed look of amateur self sculpts, but they are a lot better than anything that I could do. Kudos.

I really like the pilot 'Vanander Cambras' model. He has such great character in his pose, and his goggles complete the look perfectly.
