I'd really like to get my hands on a Vindicare - always been my favourite of the assassin types.

So it's better to try and sculpt your own?

E: the parts list.
Dorian's lasgun and arms.
Barbarettas shotgun
Possibly stone's legs.
IG torso maybe.
Head could go judge helmet to start.
Rest is gubbins and greenstuff.

Might need to go 3rd party for the torso really. ditto the head.
Callidus legs could work, but you'd have to kitbash the boots.

There's an easy torso - a little GS to make it look less like skin and more like a sneaksuit.

With a bit of work, this guys legs could work.

Or this guy.

Reasonable base model.

completely irrelevent but this guy looks like a good Rogue Trader.

http://www.historexagents.com/shop/hxproductdetail.php?ProductCode=SGS17
a little more relevant

Either way, it'll still need a good bit of GS.

i'd start with the Eversor; all the assassin temples had similar bodysuits, just different details!

The eversor has all those plates, and is about as rare these days.
Also has a lot more of an armoured look than the vindicare would.
The Vindicare is more sneaking suit/synth skin look.
Better played out by sculpts of sam fisher, or ninjas.

Couple more suggestions for body bases.
I'd be tempted to suggest spiderman with reposing and GS work.

So I've started casting more and (after a trial period) was thinking of springing for a larger quantity of latex (I'm using Smooth-On's ReoFlex 30 and got amazing results, http://www.smooth-on.com/Urethane-Rubber-an/c6_1117_1143/index.html?catdepth=1).

That said, in order to upgrade to a full gallon order it's going to be pretty pricey at around $105 (73 pounds). Half my thinking with casting was that I'd be saving some money, and this is a pretty high price point. I suppose you could argue that $105 of latex will let me cast potentially thousands of dollars of miniatures, but still.

Anyway, does that price some about right to others who have been doing their own casting? Or are there cheaper, quality alternatives? At this point I'm almost inclined to say that test out other products is potentially going to be just as costly (if it turns out poorly) than biting the bullet and getting stuff I know works well.

That's a urethane rubber, which usually i have found people cast plaster or concrete with those rubbers. You may want to look at the usual RTV silicone.

Overview of Urethane rubber: (http://paleo.cc/casting/material.htm)
QuoteUrethane and Polysulfide Rubber
Urethane rubber compounds are commonly used to make both flexible molds (for casting gypsum, concrete, and low temperature metals), as well as making flexible casts from gypsum or silicone molds. Urethane rubber compounds are usually provided in two-part systems (a base and a catalyst). Most do not release from substrates as readily as silicone or latex, and are not as chemical or heat resistant, and the fumes are toxic (use only outdoors or with very good ventilation). However, urethane rubber molds tend to be more hardy than latex molds, and somewhat less expensive than silicone molds. A common application of urethane molds is for cement statuary. Polysulfide rubber is somewhat more complicated to use (requiring a base and two catalysts), smells like rotten eggs, and tends to loose its shape over time. Polysulfide rubber molds should always be stored in a mother mold, and with not contact between the mold surface and other objects. Other than being somewhat less expensive than silicone and urethane rubber, polysulfide rubber compounds have little to recommend them.

Reoflex20 Safety  ( http://www.smooth-on.com/index/view_tb.php?products_id=0089 )
Quote
The Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for this or any Smooth-On product should be read prior to use and is available upon request from Smooth- On. All Smooth-On products are safe to use if directions are read and followed carefully.
Be careful.
Part A is a TDI prepolymer. Vapors, which can be significant if material is heated or sprayed, cause lung damage and sensitization. Use only with adequate ventilation. Contact with skin and eyes may cause severe irritation. Flush eyes with water for 15 minutes and seek immediate medical attention. Remove from skin with waterless hand cleaner followed by soap and water Prepolymers contain trace amounts of TDI which, if ingested, must be considered a potential carcinogen. Refer to MSDS .

Part B is irritating to the eyes and skin. If contaminated, flush eyes with water for 15 minutes and seek immediate medical attention. Remove from skin with soap and water. When mixing with Part A follow precautions for handling isocyanates.

Id recommend Mold Max 14 NV

It's designed to be used without spending on expensive vacuum equipment. It's cheaper in this case. And it's better for your health!!! :)

I have that god awful model as well. I also have the Troll and Slayer but my Troll is painted however :S I don't have the elf though as I gave that away as soon as I got it (I hate elves and I hated the sculpt.)

Pretty sure we can sculpt better than that between us anyway :D
