Bounty Hunter Band

Ok, I'm finishing my Bounty hunter band. All of these chaps are from/on a world named Abraxia Secondus or 'Martyr's Fall' to the pious. Here's the firs one, let me know what you think.

The Swynee family has sent it's sons and daughters to the enforcers department for millennia and are one of the most influential families on the planet. Each member to enter the enforcers has led a long and distinguished career and each new addition to 'the force' tries to out-do each other in either arrests, kills or by climbing the career ladder. Hral Swynee was no different. He excelled in the field with an arrest list that rivalled any enforcer still living. Due to his exemplary 17 years of duty he was promoted to the Enforcer special services – a group of highly trained killers that specialised in tracking down wanted individuals anywhere on the planet. During his time in the unit he was trained in specialised equipment and combat tactics. He continued to excel in fire arms and unarmed combat and, due to his bulky frame and great strength, was designated as the squads special weapon trooper.

Hral is an incredibly merciless individual and takes a perverse pleasure in exacting the Emperors judgement upon those deemed unworthy. At first this brutality was overlooked as none cared for scum, gangers or cultists and the influential name he bore made most look away. Over the years Hral's brutality became even worse and when he tried to kill a family of 8 for parking in a no parking zone his sergeant, who had finally had enough of covering Hrals trail of brutality, intervened. Enraged Hral killed his sergeant and 2 members of his squad who tried to stop him.

Knowing that killing another enforcer was punishable by death Hral fled, eventually hiding himself away in the depths of Martyrs Fall Hive where none would know his face. Only  knowing one trade he made a name for himself as a Bounty Hunter but with a reputation for only bringing back targets dead. Usually after hours of torture and beating or blasted into chunks with his Enforcer issued Bolter.

Wisely, Hral keeps any knowledge of his former job and family a secret.

Skraal has worked the Underhive for just over 2 years. Carving out a reputation as a ruthless, reliable and deadly Bounty Hunter. However Skraal's past did not start on Martyrs fall and, if he has his way, it will not end there either.

Previously, Skraal was known as Gravier BRASK and was the first born child from an unrecorded family on the world of [classified] and, as is custom for that planet, was donated to the Schola Progenium. Whilst there he was fairly unremarkable in training, being merely 'competant' in firearms and close combat. However Graviers tutors saw in him his utter dedication to the Imperial creed and his sharp mind so they set him aside for a different fate.

After additional training he was a Full Arbite by the age of 21, far from home on the world of Arcadian Prime. Over the next 5 years his keen mind, unflinching loyalty and hatred for heretics and traitors was recognised and he was promoted to the ranks of the Arbite-Detectives. For the next 6 years he investigated, interrogated and led arbite teams in the purging of any cults deemed heretical, pirate operators, unlawful mutant colonies and rogue gangs. Arcadian Prime was later rocked by a series of terrorist and secessionist attacks by a Cult simply known as 'The all-seeing Blind' that almost overthrew the Imperial rule overnight. Only the Arbites, the local enforcers and less than half the PDF remained loyal to the Throne. Over the course of several months and much bitter fighting Gravier had led numerous successful raids against the Cult and had tracked down and killed numerous Cult Cells and leaders.

Gravier was given a field promotion to Detective Prime 3 years later at the age of 35, the youngest to hold that rank,  and was instrumental in the pinpointing and the tracking down of several key cult leaders. It was at this point that Inquisitor Herscheimer, who was himself investigating the cult, made himself known. The Inquisitor had been on Arcadia for several months and had kept a close eye on all the information spilling into the data stacks – most of which was submitted by Gravier himself.

Impressed with Graviers potential Herscheimer inducted him into his warband and together they hunted down and eradicated the last remaining Cult leaders. Eventually killing the Cults head, a twisted eyeless Daemonhost. Gravier served Herscheimer for the next 17 years tracking down Heretics, rogue dealers, alien assassins, heretical cults and traitors and, after 13 years, became Herscheimer's own Interrogator.

On a world known as Martyrs fall this was all to change however. Whilst investigating a quickly growing, well armed and aggressive redemptionist cult Herscheimer and his party were ambushed and killed. Badly wounded by a flamer weapon Gravier managed to escape. Sensing betrayal Gravier went undercover and took the identity of Skraal, an underhive bounty hunter. He has been tracking down Martyrs Fall's underhive scum, waiting for a lead to the Redemptionists leader and the one ultimately responsible for Herscheimer's murder and betrayal.

Additional:
Gravier was badly wounded by a flame weapon in the ambush and has never truly recovered. He suffers -1 yard when sprinting and suffers a -10 penalty against poisons and gases. He also relies heavily on his rebreather to breath normally.

Thrakk - Pit Fighter.

Thrakk is a walking mass of muscle and pain. Whatever surgery was done to Thrakk has left him incapable of cohesive thought and causes him constant pain. His only constant recurring memory is of him lying, screaming, on an operating table. The faces of red robed, green eyed half Metal humans glaring emotionless at him as they cut him apart.

Gravier inadvertently freed Thrakk from a pit fight almost 2 years ago whilst hunting a rogue Mutant. Since that day Thrakk has followed Gravier like a faithful hound. Gravier knows little of Thrakks past and it is doubtful whether Thrakks fractured mind could recall enough to tell – If he were capable of speach. The only hint to who he is is a battered and worn set of Dog tags. Faded Imperial Guard Tattoos can be seen underneath the grime and the layers of scars covering Thrakks body. How he came to be a Pit Fighter or indeed this deep in the Underhive will probably never be known.

What Gravier knows is that Thrakk is almost totally immune to injury. Whatever was done to Thrakk has left him in constant pain so wounds barely register and serve only to increase his anger. It is also evident that Thrakk is incredibly skilled with a blade. Whether he learnt this skill in the pits or in a previous life is, again, unknown. In rare moments of lucidity Thrakk starts to mumble indecipherable verses of the Imperial creed.

I like the backstories, but can't comment on the stats stuff having not actually played Inquisitor yet (I'm prepping for my first campaign at the moment).  One thing I will say though is that if Hral is keeping his former job a secret (quite understandably), he probably wouldn't be flashing an Enforcer-issue bolter around (unless he's claiming he took it from an Enforcer he killed -  but even that might invite awkward questions).

Hmmm, maybe you're right. Maybe I should just remove the 'enforcer issue' out of it and just have it as a 'Bolter'. On Hive worlds that supply arms to the Guard I reckon Guard issue weapons are fairly common place and weapons like bolters, whilst very rare, are still seen once and a while in the hands of wealthy/nasty individuals.

I know Necromunda is a bad example but Bolters, or Bolter Knock-offs at least, are fairly easy to come by......... all bar the ammo anyway.

I mean, depending on the Hive and level of corruption, 'enforcer issue' bolters could be status symbols. I suppose it does attract unwanted attention even if it's a status symbol. All to taste really.

Regardless, I very much enjoy the background of these characters. Stats-wise, I would play against them. They're all pretty tough in one way or another, but that's who they are.

Wish I had more constructive input, but they all sound fun! Really great to see your process start to finish. Great warband!

Lord Borak

That's true. I always felt that the Bolter was his pride and joy whilst serving and that he wasn't going to ditch it for anyone. Anyone who wanted it needs to take it from his cold dead fingers anyway.

Glad the stats are 'OK'. I felt they were a bit too high in some places or at least, in Hrals case most of them were in the 60's. I'm worried it's going to be a fairly one dimensional sort of warband though. They're just killers and, maybe with the exception of Gravier, will kill first and ask questions later. Although I am looking forward to playing Hral - I like the idea of playing someone who's not adverse to kicking someone when they're down or taking the odd 'trophy' or two...... and maybe doesn't care what happens to his 'friends'.

If he's the hard, nasty man I'm getting the vibes of, he could probably claim he took it off an Enforcer he killed, and people probably wouldn't force the issue...  (Alternatively, maybe he got some new furniture for the bolter, but kept the action, so it looks different, but is still his bolter at heart.)
