Kaled

Evening all,

As discussed here, this thread is a place for people to record the exploits of their characters as they use them in games.  Feel free to post your reports in any style you like (inquisitorial reports, transcribed vox records, short pieces of fiction etc), but please try to stick to the following guidelines;

  • Reports should be kept short - a few hundred words at most.  If you want to post longer pieces of fiction about your characters, then the 'In Character' sub-forum is probably a more appropriate place.  Feel free to hyperlink to your fiction from this thread.
  • Longer battle reports should likewise have their own thread in the 'In the Field' sub-forum which can be linked to from here.
  • Detailed character backgrounds and stats should be posted in the 'Inquisitor Rules Discussion' sub-forum, but again, may be linked to from here (especially if you are looking for feedback).
  • Please avoid posting commentary on games in this thread - I've created a seperate thread for discussing your characters exploits here.
  • To keep loading times to a minimum, please hyperlink to photos rather than posting them in this thread.
  • This thread is for records of character exploits in games (primarily of Inquisitor and Dark Heresy) - pure online roleplaying should be kept to the 'In Character' sub-forum

I've created an outline for a sector as a starting point, but don't feel you have to use it if you want to set your games elsewhere.  Feel free to create (and destroy!) and worlds, characters or institutions needed for your games, but please refrain from interfering with anything created by someone else (unless you have their permission).  Remember you're telling the story of your characters, not that of your opponent's.  So for example, your character can declare he believes that an opposing character is a heretic, but don't declare that your opponent's character has been declared Excommunicate Hereticus by the Carthaxian Conclave and is being hunted across the Imperium (unless, of course, your opponent agrees).

Likewise while it's fine to despose a sub-sector governor, execute a heretical cardinal, or destroy the odd planet; don't take it so far as to do things that would affect other people's stories.  So don't kill off the entire sector government and plunge it into chaos, or assassinate the head of the Carthaxian Conclave etc.  My plan is that some of these larger events can be played out at things like the Spring Conclave.  For example, I have an idea for a one day campaign based on the politics and intrigue surrounding Lord Grolin's death and the race to succeed him.

Finally, try not to worry about inconsistencies and contradictions - after all, Everything you have been told is a lie.

Be seeing you
- Dave

The Carthax sector is located on the edge of Imperial space in the Segmentum Pacificus. The region was rediscovered during the Great Crusade by Rogue Trader Aniel Hydronus <See file MER-1172-h>, and was subsequently brought into compliance by the Ultramarine Legion <See file AST-5163-y>. The sector covers a large spatial area and is therefore divided into a number of sub-sectors. Although each sub-sector is generally self-governed, overall administration of the sector is carried out from Pillarus Prime. Sector government comprises a senate headed by the Imperial Governor and including representatives from the various Adeptus, representatives of the various sub-sector governments, and prominent trade bodies <See file ADP-8941-x>. The Carthaxian Conclave is based at the Inquisitorial Fortress on Pillarus Prime. The Inquisition also maintains satellite fortresses on a number of other worlds within the sector <See file INQ-7422-a> as well as facilities run by each of the Ordos <See file INQ-9631-t>. There are also innumerable safe-houses, laboratories, fortresses and other stations operated by Inquisitorial cells, cabals and individual Inquisitors.

The Carthaxian Conclave is currently headed by Lord Inquisitor Grolin, ably assisted by the Masters of the Ordos Malleus, Hereticus, Xenos, Sepulturum and Sicarius. Given the vast size of the sector, much of his authority is devolved to the sub-sector...

- The Succession -

The Carthaxian Conclave is becoming increasingly divided. Lord Inquisitor Grolin's health is deteriorating but so far no clear successor has been identified and a number of possible candidates are attempting to manoeuvre themselves into positions of power and influence. For now, Lord Inquisitor Grolin is maintaining his grip on the conclave, but it is unclear how much longer this can continue. <See file CCR-4851-s>.

- The Hastor Incident -

The abatement of the warp storms that had isolated Hastor, home to an ancient Inquisitorial Fortress, and the rumours of the priceless technology contained within drew a number of Inquisitors, Mechanicus Magi, and assorted treasure seekers to the planet. There they discovered a dozen stones, each with the power to heal any injury and even to restore the dead to life. The supreme potential of these artefacts was not lost on the protagonists, especially those representing ressurrectionist factions and their opponents.

Perhaps inevitably, the bitter rivalries turned to violence and in the ensuing battle Inquisitor Kaled was gunned down and left for dead. Fortunately, members of his team were able to revive him using the arcane powers of a Hastor Stone, and together they escaped with a second stone. Inquisitor Necris had similar success and also obtained a Hastor Stone, however he was able to escape the battle unharmed.

Returning to his ship, Inquisitor Kaled called in a battlefleet under the command of Admiral Goodchild and obliterated the ancient fortress to ensure its ancient secrets would no longer be able to threaten the stability of the Imperium. However in the confusion, it is believed that a couple more stones were stolen by unidentified parties.

Addendum: Since the Hastor Incident, Inquisitor Kaled is believed to have amassed a collection of other relics and ancient artefacts. In the Process he has clashed with other eminent parties within the sector including Magos Excus, Inquisitor Hunter Rex and Adept Stein <see file GGF-7232-d>. It is unknown at this time what Kaled's intentions are with these artefacts; however his actions merit further examination.

Addendum : it was observed during the Hastor Incident that Inquisitor Necris displayed strange abilities focussing on his right arm, some speculated that Necris himself was in possession of a daemon weapon, the evidence of this has been lost as it is now apparent that Necris possesses a bionic replacement that was not present during the Hastor Incident. Necris has also amassed a collection of artefacts and texts on heretical subjects.

- The Grundig Affair -

The Inquisitor who goes by the alias 'Red Queen' was one of a number of members of the Holy Ordos drawn into The Grundig Affair by the machinations of the infamous Istvaanian, Inquisitor Kor Grundig. During one of the early confrontations, a figure believed to be 'Red Queen' was eviscerated by a foul mutant in the employ of one of his rivals. Since then, the activities of Red Queen have continued across the sector, and it must be concluded that the figure who was killed was an agent of the Inquisitor.

During the Grundig Affair Necris was reported to have used excessive force when dealing with civilians, after suffering a betrayal at the hands of Inquisitor Nemesov he dedicated his time in both pursuing Nemesov to bring him to justice, Nemesov however escape after setting off a reactor meltdown which prevented Necris from pursuing him. Red Queen also came into conflict with Necris on several occasions during this affair.

- The Sicarius Schism -

In recent months events have come to light indicating a schism within the ranks of the secretive Ordo Sicarius. An assassination attempt was made on Inquisitors Necris and Hanja, one which bore all the hallmarks of being carried out by an Ordo Sicarius operative. Initially suspicion fell on the Inquisitor known as Red Queen, a mysterious and shadowy figure within the Ordo Sicarius, although later reports indicated that he too was investigating the misuse of Sicarius operatives by other members of his Ordo. When it came to light that Inquisitor Necris had in his employ a renegade Officio assassin, Necris holds in his possession an Ordo Sicarius dossier on potential targets, included in the names is Inquisitor Hanja.

Although grievously wounded, Necris survived the assassination attempt and has sworn to unmask Red Queen and remove his influence from the Carthaxian Conclave.

- The Ostrakov Affair Rekindled -

A disturbing series of reports have indicated that the Arch-Radical, Vladimir Ostrakov, has returned.  It is reported that he clashed with Magos Rowne outside the Church of Saint Drusath, rumoured resting place of an ancient and powerful artefact.  Mere days later he and his associates were discovered attempting to excavate an Eldar device from the sands below the Garion Outpost.  On both occasions, members of the Carthaxian Conclave were successful in halting his operations, but Ostrakov managed to escape - his current whereabouts is unknown.

Ostrakov's mastery of the dark arts appears to have increased substantially since he was last seen.  At Garion he was reportedly accompanied by two daemonhosts (tentatively identified as Elphaba and Nimros) and appeared to be carrying a daemonsword.  Ostrakov's ultimate objective is unknown, but all members of the Conclave are requested to report any sightings or leads, no matter how tenuous, to Lord Grolin.

- The Gaugtel Expedition -

Reports have reached the Conclave from a number of Inquisitors who have clashed with Explorator-Magos Vaal Kryzak.  Kryzak's expedition to the Gaugtel Stars is marshalling in orbit around Jodrun III, however rumours abound that Kryzak has been dealing in proscribed xeno-tech and these have hampered the start of the expedition.  Attempts have been made to capture Kryzak by both Inquisitor Valka <see file R-253-ASD-1> and Inquisitor Hanja <see file R-384-HDF-9>, however both have so far been unsuccessful.  Kryzak has powerful allies both within and outside the Adeptus Mechanicus, and Lord Grolin requests that members of the Conclave tread carefully in their dealings with Kryzak so as not to create a potentially damaging rift between the Conclave and the Adepts of Mars.

- Inquisitor Viktor Cushing, Ordo Sepulturum -

<See file JHF-7272-f>

Recently arrived in the sector is Inquisitor Viktor Cushing, of the fledgling Ordo Sepulturum.  Cushing's vessel, the Azure Dictum, is equipped to operate as a mobile laboratory and medicae facility, and he is accompanied by numerous medicae staff as well as contingent of the Sisters of the Eternal Candle.  Military support for his operations is provided by a detachment of Inquisitorial Stormtroopers.

Soon after joining the Carthaxian Conclave, Cushing was involved in the attempted capture of Viceroy Khonig Gronemeyer.  Although Gronemeyer slipped through his fingers, disappearing in the Swamps of Avatorg; Cushing was able to detain the rogue Magos Feytor when Feytor's bionic brain overloaded attempting to psychically assault Trooper Yeovil who was protected by the wards tattooed on his skull.  It is not known what, if any, information Cushing was able to extract from Feytor, but it is thought that Feytor is no longer in custody.

- Entym Hydronus, Rogue Trader -

Reports suggest that the Rogue Trader, Entym Hydronus, intends to use the sector as a staging post for his expedition into the Velorgth Expanse.  House Hydronus is hugely influential in the neighbouring Pohl Sector, where the family controls a vast trading empire and hs Governorship of several worlds.  It is recommended that members of the Conclave scrutinise Hydronus's activities for evidence his party may have become tainted by their travels outside of His glorious Imperium.

++query:Nemesov++
Inquisitor Richard Nemesov (it is believed that this identity is a pseudonym and of his career prior to taking on the rank of Inquisitor no information is known) was, for some time, one of the Carthaxian Sector's most wanted criminals.

His operations under the auspices of the Conclave were brough to a halt within a few years of his arrival in the sector, on the instruction of Inquisitor Lady Kang-Ju Ki [deceased] and Nemesov himself issued in absentia with a carta extremis, calling him to account for a number of shocking incidents in his previous area of operations.  Lady Ki was given tabula rasa in his pursuit until, in a bloody confrontation, she was shot and killed by Nemesov.

Nemesov's time at large, however, was curtailed by Inquisitor Nathaniel Carter, whose reputation in the Conclave should have been assured by the prodigious success of bringing the renegade in alive.  However, to date Carter has not handed Nemesov over to the Conclave authorities and his current status is unknown.

++query: Enobarbus, Zoltan++
First dispatched to the Carthaxian Sector, ostensibly at the behest of the Inner Circle of the Ordo Hereticus itself, to oversee a routine mutant purge, Inquisitor Zoltan Enobarbus has yet to explain the circumstances that see him remaining ex officio in the sector.

Although not personally present at the Hastor Incident, he was the first to bring Hastor to the attention of the Carthaxian Conclave.  Whether his intervention prevented or precipitated the resulting confrontation is hotly debated to this day.  However, there is no question that he was at the heart of the Venixian Schism and was one of the few of the sector's power brokers drawn to those events to have walked away apparently unscathed.  He refuses to answer the Conclave's questions relating to the events that took place inside the ancient techno-depository of Venix, but observers have noted that his attentions have lately fallen more particularly on the Adeptus Mechanicus and its various forgeworlds since the Schism.

Recent arrivals to reinforce the Holy Orders of the Carthaxian Conclave from the Ordo Hereticus, however, have shone new light upon Enobarbus and his background.  For it transpires that it was not at the behest of the Hereticus that Enobarbus moved his base of operations to Carthax, but rather in direct opposition to their directives.  A summons to explain himself to the Conclave has been issued but, so far, Enobarbus has excused himself from appearing.

++query: Rowne, Magos, Mechanicus+++
-Magos Berith Rowne, Adeptus Mechanicus

Magos Rowne arrived originally in the Carthax Sector to aid the construction of life-support aids for Lord inquisitor Grolin; Rowne being renown for his knowledge and mastery over the flesh.
However, politics (some whisper of agents wishing Lord Inquisitor Grolin's demise...) intervened and Rowne spent several weeks waiting for an audience. He instead traveled to the Garion Outpost, hearing of powerful artifacts being discovered.
During several clashes with Inquisitorial Agents, Rowne aided in the destruction of the Dig Site, his hatred of the Xenos giving him drive and he barely escaped, suffering several wounds and the loss of many of his retinue <see file GSG-31009-V>.
Magos Rowne would appear to have a fear of termination; he has enlisted aid from Tech Adept Stein, noted for his work with bionic enhancements and Tech Adept Liwet, rumour circulating of experiments with cloning.

++end query++
++query: Tech Adept Liwet+++

-Tech Adept Agatha Liwet, Archeotechnologist

Tech Adept Liwet is known for a somewhat caviler attitude quite different from many of the Mechanicus' agents.
While her father was a stereotypical Explorator and her mother an Imperial Guardsman assigned to his retinue, a childhood being raised by a squad of hardened veterans left as much of an impression on the young girl as did her father's (and later, her Mechanicus training) teachings.
With an innate ability for repair, Adept Liwet has been spotted in several conflicts across the galaxy; from aiding the defenders of Armageddon Prime, uttering curses and soothing litanies for the artillery mounts to fighting alongside the Tau to gain their trust and samples of their technology for study.
Her "shoot first, shoot second, shoot some more and then ask questions" methodology has led to her often working with more technologically gifted members of the Mechanicus; Adept Liwet procures artifacts and leaves the analysis to those with more patience.
With such a resume, it is unsurprising she has gravitated to the Carthax Sector. She has been seen in the company of Magos Rowne, despite their opposing views on Xenos technology.

Heroka Vendile

++query:Inquisitor Krackensmith++
This member of the Ordo Hereticus only arrived in the sector recently, making a proclemation to the Carthaxian Conclave that he was here to hunt out "the most traitorous" Inquisitor Vendile, whom he believed to have fled to the region. Krackensmiths pressence has been noted, but he has found no influence or support for his hunt yet. This is mostly because he has been unable to produce any evidence to suggest that Inquisitor Vendile is actually in the sector, nor of exactly what Vendile is meant to have done wrong - although a handful Inquisitors in the region have at least heard the name before. Other than his stated goal and his psychic ability; nothing is really known of Krackensmith by any members of the conclave yet.

++query:Inquisitor Itholian++
Well recognised in the southern regions of the Segmentum Pacificus, this Ordo Xeno member has had impressive success in erradicating Ork and Genestealer infestations and in dealing with other xenos matters  in his short career (most famously the Kordoxan ceasefire <See file SPX-8330-d>). It is known that he regularily uses his blood connection to the powerful segmentum-wide Itholik trading family to transport he and his staff across systems and sectors.
Officially he is stated to be hunting out illegal xenos artifacts to pass on to the Mechanicus. However this has caused some upset as it would appear that the various artifacts he has secured so far have been sent to a forge world outside the Carthaxian Sector, leading some Inquisitors and many members of the Mechanicum to take note of his future actions in this regard.
Whilst is it not officially recorded which forge world the artifacts have been sent to, it is beileved to be the homeworld of the Techpriest in Itholians staff.
It's all fun and games until someone shoots their own guy with a Graviton gun instead of the MASSIVE SPIDER.

An individual closely matching the description of inquisitor Lok Andreseyn was spotted among the attackers in a pirate raid upon an imperial garrison.  The last known location of Lok was the Feeng Alpha system, quarantined under his authority, over a decade previously, and his official status is currently under review.  An investigator has been dispatched to confirm Lok's identity and, if possible, his state of mind.

It is recommended that further resources are placed on standby to limit the collateral damage of his.... activities.  A full background check of the victims is also recommended.  Lok has been right in the past.

Kaled

- The Hastor Incident Continued -

At the close of the battle at the centre of the Hastor labyrinth, Inquisitor Kaled lay close to death, having been shot in the head and fallen from a high tower...

+++

Kaled's eyes flicked open, his breath that was shallow and ragged returned to normal, "Lillith?"
"Yes sir. The stone it...".
"I understand. Where are the others?" Life was returning to his limbs, he felt good, stronger than ever.
"Gone. I'm not sure why or where, some fled others just seemed to disappear." She reached out her hand to help him to his feet.
"And Konrad?" He stood, he could feel the energy from the stone flowing through his veins.
"He's down, but I think he'll live if we can get him back to the ship in time. Or I could use this..." She opened a hand revealing a second glowing stone.
"No. We don't fully understand their power, I can't take the chance. We must get back, the others can't be allowed to leave this place with those stones. Too much time has been lost already. Signal the fleet, tell the Admiral to come in firing and destroy any ships still in the system."
"What about our allies?" she enquired, "We'd have never made it this far without them."
"Allies? They know too much, and if they have one of those stones we can't let them leave. No... they too must be sacrificed." He looked around, a couple of the glowing stones still remained, most had been taken.
"Grab Konrad, we must get back to the shuttle. Once we're clear, I'll order the admiral to destroy the site from orbit, this place is too dangerous to leave intact. Bring that stone, the rest will be destroyed along with the labyrinth."

+++

Sat behind his large mahogany desk, Kaled pondered the glowing stone in front of him. So many people had died for them already, and thousands more might die in the future. He should probably destroy this one, but still... There was a knock at the door. He took a bulky chrome stub pistol from a drawer, flicked off the safety and placed it out of sight in his lap. He called out "Enter."
Lillith Polanski stepped into the room. Her armour was gone, replaced by simple blue robes. "Ah Lillith, how are your wounds healing?"
"Fine sir. Thank you." She looked down at the blue glow of the Hastor stone, then at Kaled. As usual his expression was unreadable.
"I'm sorry Lillith, but you know too much."
"Sir?"
"I'm grateful for everything you did, but I can't allow you to retain knowledge of the Hastor Labyrinth and what we found there. I've arranged for you to be mind-wiped. I pray that just the memories of the last few days can be removed, but you know there are no guarantees. An adept of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica is en-route as we speak."
"But sir..."
"I am sorry." he interrupted. His grip tightened on the pistol. "I have no choice."
Lillith touched the Inquisitorial symbol tattooed on her forehead, and bowed.
"Yes sir. I live to serve." She turned and left. Kaled was happy to note the security personnel waiting to escort Lillith back to her quarters. He hoped her mind wouldn't be too damaged by the procedure, she was a fine operative.
"Damn." he muttered to himself, and returned the pistol to his drawer. He wrapped up the stone, locked it in his safe, then touched a control on the comm-panel in front of him. "Admiral, have your navigators traced those ships?"
"Yes lord." replied Admiral Goodchild, his voice metallic over the comm-link. "We are tracking six ships, but some have very unusual warp signatures."
"Good. Deploy the fleet, we have some hunting to do." Kaled broke the link. He took a book from his shelves, a volume of ancient Terran poetry, and sat back to read.

Necris

- The Hastor Incident Continued -

During the closing stages of the Hastor Incident Inquisitor Necris acted with recklessness to secure himself a Hastor stone, taking flight with the precious artefact with little if any resistance, he made his get away from Hastor upon the rogue trader vessel "Quick Silver" when traced down the Ships Master reported that Necris himself had changed to another vessel the "Sabbath" there is no record of this ships existence and it is speculated that this is Necris' own personal ship.

++

Necris sat behind a Naalwood desk a data journal before him, the stylus in his hand hovered over the digital screen then dropped as he started to write.

I have made my escape with the stone, even now as I look upon it's grey surface the thing glows with a strange blue light, if this truly has the means to heal all injuries perhaps I can use it to rid myself of this infliction that burdens my soul, but I am loath to waste such a precious artefact on one such as myself, I look at the stone and the rumours about it's powers, from what I saw Kaled should be dead but word come to me that he lives and is in search of those at Hastor, if this is true then the powers are real enough but how effects could they be could the revive out Lord and Master and what would the consequences of carrying out such an act? Am I becoming a Thorian do I believe in the resurrection of the Emperor, do I believe it is even possible?
No I cannot act irrationally word is spreading that some of the stone escaped the death of Hastor it must be kept secret until a time that I understand the workings behind the thing, for deep down I know there are foul magics involved my arm tingles as if repulsed by the very presence of the thing, maybe it is a reaction to the power of healing maybe it is more sinister.
I am entrusting the stone to Marius he alone can be trusted with it and relied upon to protect it, I'm sending it to the vault there it will stay until I have learned more of its origins and the true nature of the magic behind it.

He rested the quill down and looked up the glow of the screen casting a stark shadow across his face; stepping from the shadows Marius bowed his head silently his foot falls undetectable on the wooden inlaid floor. Necris picked up the stone with his right hand visibly cringing at the touch, he wrapped it in a skin from some xenos animal and placed it into a black case before gene-sealing it, only he would ever be able to open the box, if he eve r chose to open the box.

"Grace is waiting for you in the hangar bay, take the stone to the Vault, kill anyone who tries to stop you."
Marius bowed his head.

"What of those with you on the planet?"

"I have already scheduled Edward to be mind-locked while he recovers from his injuries."

"And Cogg?"

"Nothing I have sworn her to secrecy, she knows not to betray my trust."

"As you wish master."

Marius swept up to the desk collected the case and vanished just as quickly, he wait for a few minutes before activating the vox built into the desk.

"Summon Marcus, I have need of him in Edwards absence."
This here is my very favourite gun...I call her rita.

+++ Subject: ALERT - Enslaver activity on Grimholm II +++

Reports have reached the Conclave of sightings of strange floating, tentacled creatures in and around the capital of Grimholm II. These have coincided with stories of mysterious disappearances, people acting out of character, and mass hysteria. Although we have received no clear pict-captures of the creatures to allow for a positive identification, our initial analysis suggests that this is the work of the warp-beings known as 'Enslavers' <See file: X566-7785-e>.

The local enforcers have been investigating the incidents, with support from the Adeptus Arbites; however should our preliminary analysis prove correct, this is a threat that neither agency is equipped to deal with. Lord Grolin has therefore requested that any available members of the Conclave make haste to Grimholm II to assist in eliminating the threat posed by insidious foul aliens.

The local Planetary Defence Force has been mobilised to blockade the city, and Lord Grolin has dispatched an Inquisitorial Cruiser and two regiments of troops to Grimholm II to assist agents of the Conclave in neutralising the threat.

Xerxas threw the limp rodent onto the desk and it landed with a damp splat. He shot a furious glance at the Kroot as it made an advance towards the tasty cadaver and he backed away. That damned Kroot's appetite has caused plenty of narrow misses, but this had to be the closest. He slumped down in his chair and rested his brow on his fingertips. As he gazed at the mutant vermin lying lifeless on his desk and watched as blood saturated into the papers beneath it.

The words on the letter were still visible, and the signature at the end, Torquemada, had started to dye a deep crimson from the blood seeping into it. Xerxas pushed the rat off the letter and scanned it, trying to make heads or tails of the milk-run he was sent on. "...Mutant rats... obtain a sample... report your findings..." Nothing to indicate why the Imperium's finest mind should be conducting pest-control in an abandoned ruin. What's worse, is that there is nothing to indicate why there were others there.

Xerxas crumpled up the letter and threw it into the corner of his quarters. He looked up and Anoke, the Kroot, has stole away. If there was one thing Xerxas couldn't fault him for, it was his ability to move around unnoticed. Convenient really, for an eight-foot alien moving amongst a xenophobic populace. The Magos, Lingus Quinne, was now standing in the doorway. Xerxas picked up a pencil and pushed the dead rat away from him to the edge of his desk.

"Cut it up and tell me what you find." Xerxas said, massaging the bridge of his nose with forefinger and thumb, elbows planted firmly on the arms of his chair.

"The Rattus, sire?" Quinne asked, sounding insulted at the task.

"Some things are beyond our control," Xerxas replied, wearily pushing himself out of his chair "just tell me if you find anything.

Quinne shuffled over to the desk and produced a pair of foreceps from his robes, gingerly picked up the dripping carcass and left, muttering to himself.

With one thing off his mind, Xerxas walked over to the viewing port. The planet below was a miserable brown, the same brown of an untreated latrine, covered in a sheath of smog. Xerxas had never declared Exterminatus on a planet before, maybe he'd be doing this solar system a favour...?

Removing such temptations from his mind, he focused on the more pressing task at hand. He hoped that Inquisitor Hanja had managed to get that child to safety. Whilst Torquemada is busy dealing with rodent infestations, Xerxas is trying to save the only witness to the murder of the High Lord Inquisitor of the Conclave. If it wasn't for that damned Torqueamada, Xerxas could deal with the child himself.

Let's hope Inquisitor Hanja is up to the task.

+++ Latest Report Ref.8832.303 +++
Following the Investigations of Inquisitor Xerces, I located and retrieved  the only known witness to the murder of our Late Lord Inquisitor. I had no time nor place for detailed investigation, and after a minor scan of his mind to confirm his identity and presence at the scene, I removed him from the location. Due to the high level's of concern over this matter, I was unable to use any greater force than my self, my valet, and one of my staff.
Moving through the derelict area's to our Extraction point, we were attacked by a mutant, which appeared to target the child, though I believe for some other purpose than to prevent his evidence from reaching others. I have  encouraged to local Ecclisarchy to purge these mutants.
In addition to this, we were then beset upon by a group of Cultists, who appear to be some off shoot of redemptionists. I have dubed them the unmasked, and according to Rifleman Verger they were being led by an individual bearing the mark of the Inquisition. It appears that our suspicions were confirmed, the death of the Lord Inquisitor involved other members of the Conclave.
Hard pressed, I recieved the aid of a 'freelance Judge', who was serving the interests of Imperial Justice. I have requested his file from the Arbites, and will deliver a full report on this individual in the future.
Unfortunately, despite this aid the mission failed, The Inquisitorial Agent was a Pyromancer, and my Valet Suffered 74% Burns, while the child was specifically targeted, and died. We recovered the body, and we may yet learn something from the scans of his brain. And the Psychic scans I took provide some small leads, as does the attack it's self.

Xerxas tore the transmission slip from the Comms array, his fists clenching tighter as he read.

"One of the best masters of [his] weapon in the sector, his psychic ability, and his ability to move through the lower strata's of Imperial society."

He couldn't even protect a child! A rogue pyromancer, a freelance Judge with dlusions of grandeur and an off-the-record mutant working for the Ecclesiarchy, how could Hanja not handle such a simple task? In a blind rage, Xerxas swept everything off his desk and into the adjacent wall, papers exploding into the air and various curios smashing against the armoured bulkhead. Breathing deeply, he resigned himself to his chair once more and stared at the shred of transmission slip still clutched tightly in his hand.

Interrogator Dune appeared at the door, pistol in hand, responding lightning-fast to the calamitous noise produced from the Inquisitor's quarters.

"Put it away, Ezekiel." Xerxas tone of voice had subdued, "Get me Inquisitor Hanja's file, reference 5647.444. Also, look out any Chirurgeons with intensive burn treatment units, if we can find his chargrilled friend, he will lead us to Hanja."

Dune nodded and disappeared into the bowels of the ship. Xerxas re-read the last few lines of the transmission slip. If it were down to him, he thought to himself, that Valet would have suffered 100% burns...

I have received a messgae from an associate in the Inquisition who has requested we travel to the cathedral of St Theoderic to investigate what he terms 'disturbing rumours' surrounding a relic stored within the saint's tomb.

I realise that this is not normally something we would get involved in, however given the recent Inquisitorial scrutiny of our expedition, we cannot ignore the few friends we have within that organisation.

Further details regarding the matter are attached.

May the glory of the Omnissiah shine upon you.

I have worked for Kryzak for 512.4 cycles, and he has never before mentioned having allies in the Inquisition.  In fact he has always shunned contact with the Ordos.  I wonder whether this 'associate' has some leverage over Kryzak - up until now he has never seemed beholden to anyone outside the Mechanicum.

I regret to inform you that we were unable to secure the artefact due to members of the Inquisition meddling in our mission.  They were however unable to prevent us from opening the tomb and examining the artefact.  Even a cursory examination of the so called 'Sword of Fortuna', showed it to be 'tainted' by the forces who dwell beyond the veil.

Our team was temporarily detained by the Arbites but were released without charge.  It seems the sanctimoneous fools within the Ecclesiarchy were very keen to ensure the incident was kept quiet.

We are en-route to your position and will rendezous with the expedition in 4.7 cycles.

The Inquisitrix explained that the blade contained a bound 'daemon', and it was this being whose powers caused that Arbitrator to react the way he did... <Skip to extract: 10439/x>

It is interesting to me that Zurek was not similarly effected; I hypothesise that the blessed bionic arm that brings him closer to the Omnissiah protected him from the influence of that creature.

I believe that this idea warrants closer examination.  Perhaps those of us who have been blessed by the Machine God could capture and safely use these creatures - there may be much we could learn from them.

Although the subject has responded well to the mental conditioning and is eminently controllable, its offensive capabilities leave something to be desired.  I am forced to conclude that Adept Terrell was correct and we must upgrade it's combat wet-ware.
