I've been following these posts on the Inquisitorium - great work.

Initially I didn't think the Hardman's head was much of a problem, but I think now that it's been pointed out a couple of times, I can't stop noticing it.
Still probably not somethign to worry too much about though.

The Administrator looks just fine the way she is, I dont think there's any need to make her more feminine-figured.

How's working with plastic going so far?

I'm managing, but I'm still not a particular fan of it for Inquisitor. I like it for vehicle models, and it's alright if you want to build a squad of regular infantry, but I don't really like converting it.

Although it is theoretically easier to cut (but with my tool kit, metal isn't that hard), when you're used to solid pieces you can trim/file down ad nauseum, thin-walled torsos (made up out of several pieces) can be a pain... but the main thing though is plastic glue, which is a pain for fiddly conversions - getting everywhere, dissolving detail and taking an age to set.

It's wierd, but I always find I have the opposite problem/experience

Metal and superglue (oddly) never dries fast enough (unless it's on my fingers, because then it dries super quick), and I always end up needing to fabricate scaffolding and pinning (if it's even possible in some cases) to ensure stability when causing something to dry in a particular pose - and this is worse when I'm not converting (which at least offers the opportunity to ensure joins are thick enough to be survivable). It's safe to state that my ability to turn air blue comes from having to deal with particularly fiddly builds (conversions or ordinary construction) dealing with any form of white metal and superglue.

Plastic, on the other hand (unlike resin, which isn't much different to metal in some respects, including needing superglue and scaffolding) tends to be better overall, as I can carefully cut precisely in small increments (measure twice, cut a few times to be sure) to get the exact measure I need, and (unlike metal) it's very easy to get bits (or bitz) if I need extras, backups, or replacements (such a market is harder to find for metal components, and is usually more costly), and for my part I find the ultra fine applicators of my blue poly-cement pots (Revell contacta professional - the blue stuff with the applicator that you need a wire handy to keep clear) to be handy for drying just fast enough that I can build things rapidly (sometimes too quick!), and being very accurate.

When I compare the three types of model (metal, resin, and plastic) I find that plastic tends to be more survivable too, while resin and plastic are more likely to break, either by snapping on fragile thin bits, or by breaking/shattering easily when dropped (even on softer surfaces, the white metal and superglue is more likely to break than plastic, while resin is hit or miss, but can shatter or snap, either on a join, or mid-component). If I had my choice, we'd see a lot more plastic, as (when produced to GW levels) it still has a lot of detail, but can survive bouncing due to clumsy gamers, and tends to take a little more effort to break, rather than merely bending, while metal (and, to some extent depending on the mix, resin) tends to break all too easily.

To settle more on-topic, however, I'm liking that you've managed to find a way to combine van saar parts with other kits - I've noticed that they are (appropriately, for their house and backstory) kind of thin in some ways compared to other kits, which makes cross-pollination (for want of a better term) of parts with van saar parts kind of tricky in some ways. Kudos!
I think the left hand on the drunkard looks a little overlarge - is it catachan? Or Cadian? It looks like it might be Cadian, so I'm surprised that it's still that large.

The magic words here are "superglue accelerator spray" - if a joint is a problem, it sets the stuff off completely in about five seconds. And if you can't spare a hand to use the bottle, you can spray the accelerator on one side of the join first, put the glue on the other half and it'll still work fine.

There's no equivalent for plastic cement, where I can find a joint may still be rather soggy several minutes after I've glued it, and completely collapsed as a result.

I have no idea - it could be almost anything, as it was loose in my bits box with no arm attached. It is a little large, but I'm thinking I might greenstuff in some additional inflamed swelling to give him a dose of gout, which wouldn't be out of place for a persistent drunk.

Nice kit-bashing going on.  Seeing some NPC civilians on the table would be great.  I have grand plans for 54mm civilians and angry mobs, but I am wrapped up with historical commissions right now and haven't been able to work on anything of my own for ages.  First world miniature painter problems.

You mentioned some non-GW kits, but in case you haven't seen them, then the Frostgrave kits could be super for this project.

They also have fantasy male and female soldiers, barbarians, and pirate crews.

It's often a real limitation. I'll regularly think "Ah, I'd love to do a scenario in a crowded market" or the like, but I just haven't got the models.
Hopefully this will do a lot to fix that kind of problem for when I'm running 28mm games (and if I manage to build in enough variety, hopefully it'll also give me a range of models to use as more high profile NPCs. I should probably take a gander at the NPCs list in that old scenario generator to see if there's any ideas to use).

For 54mm... definitely more of a challenge, as just getting hold of an abundance of models to use as a starting point for NPC hordes can be tricky.

I do have a box around with forty-four "Army Men" zombies in it (a Nurgle plague was a possible subplot I considered as part of the LGT last year, although it was eventually abandoned in favour of putting more time and effort into the terrain project) but getting hold of those was a task in itself. Almost every option I found on the internet was out of production and entirely unavailable, or out of production and going for ludicrous prices on eBay; eventually I got these ones fairly cheap, but ended up getting two bags because more of the cost was in shipping them from the US than the plastic itself. (As such, if anyone needs a few cheap plastic zombies, drop me a line, I can probably set you up with a few).

I don't think those were amongst the suggestions I've had - what I recall is things like the Maelstrom's Edge "Broken Infantry" - which looks like a pretty good kit, but I did want to start with some of the Necromunda kits; I want to support the Specialist Games division, as I think it's doing wonderful things for GW's product range - as I ranted about in that blog post last year, Forge World is making some wonderfully characterful models off the back of the Necromunda fluff that it couldn't do within the main WH40K game.

Still once I had that many boxes in my cart, my wallet ran off and told me to work on those first before I added anything else!

More civilian WIPs, all in need of a little finalisation:

The Welder (needs welding goggles)

The Preacher (needs minor GSing).

The Longshoreman (shown here without his heavy cargo, for the sake of painting):

The Courier (GS will be used to slightly bulk up his left arm and turn the rod into a scroll)

The Ratcatcher and The Apprentice (minor GSing needed, horrific mould lines already removed):

~~~~~
And, rather higher profile, Lady Natalia Fforbes-Ingall, of the Fforbes-Ingall rogue trader dynasty. (Basing and minor GS work needed).
~~~~~

I'm also going to take the opportunity to remind you that if you plan to attend the "Fracture" event I'm running in London (where these models will all be appearing), the cut-off for tickets is the end of this Sunday.

These are coming together nicely - looking forward to seeing them next week.
I've been  following their progress on the FB page, they look great.

Have you thought about using one or two for a submission to 28Mag?
The conversion from classic 54mm sculpts to 28mm doppelgangers, tying the historyof the game into the current range, might be the sort of thing to interest them.
Doubtless you have more than enough to be keeping you busy already though.

An article is a possibility (worst case, if they don't want it, it can be put to use for rebooting Dark Magenta), but I don't think I'd approach it from that angle.

Aside from the fact I only loosely used the concepts of the old 54mm citizens as cues (and occasionally picked heads that most reminded me of the models), mega-rare models you need to be an Inquisitor mega-nerd to remember even existed aren't a very accessible subject for an article. (Hell, even I messed up, the official name is actually "Stevedore" rather than "Longshoreman", but I think I'll keep the latter).

Especially the Noblewoman.
Some brilliant component combinations on show here.

Really big fan of these civilians... Might have to buy a box of necromunda minis myself to make some workers. And the rogue trader? I kind of want to make a rogue trader and their retinue now, but I'll wait till my next campaign.

mcjomar

I'm increasingly in the mood to do some =][=28 minis myself now.
I've got some ideas involving bionics which will need Guard and AdMech bits.
Apparently I'll want to consider some Necro bits too.
And possibly some other minis besides.

Various terrain-y bitz and bobs:

Smaller chemical barrels for 28mm scale - this time including a proper storage box to try to stop all the paint chipping off them immediately:

And some stuff I've shown you before, but now in a more complete state:

The river sections (which involved a lot of comical splashing around at Fracture on Saturday):

And the various large rocks to add some more hard cover to the forest table:

Some really nice stuff you've got here. I haven't had the time to go through this entire thread yet, but I fully intend to.

Keep up the good work.
