Desperado Warbands

Interesting news, I found my old Servitor model which was a kitbashing of Slick Devlan, and my next door neighbour gave me his old models (or what was left of them), and after checking out the GW website i found that i now have enough parts to make Damian Bloodhound, Slick Devlan, and Lucretia/Barbaretta (both of them, their names are escaping me).

Well, this inspired me to start a Bounty Hunting Warband, ala the Strontium Dogs, but then i started to read into Desperado's, and thought would they work well together, they're typically loners, but is there a precident for a team of them to go after people, either in any direct fluff, or any of the source books?

Also, is there anything about an organisation of Bounty Hunters, again, like the Strontium Dogs, and if not, how do they operate? Is it along the grapevine, or would they have contacts who actively send them after a sole target?

Edit - Would anyone be up for creating an organisation like this over the summer, effectively have the Conclave's own "Bounty Hunters", i.e. a central organisation which hands contracts out to it's members. I've not really got the time to do a massive project, but i think if there's no precident, then a sort of discussion about certain parts of how it could actually work would be beneficial to anyone trying to make Gun-Hound characters.

Well, Johnny Alpha partnered Wulf Sternhammer for a good while, and he used to hang around with Midden Face and his mates from the Mutant Liberation Army - and thats not counting others like The Gronk. Offhand I seem to remember that most S&D agents had one partner, and some of them, had whole warbands - what was Alpha's worst enemy called? he had a load of sidekicks - the only one I can remember atm is the heavily bandaged Impetigo Jones.

Reminds me that 2000AD as a whole is bursting with NPC and PC ideas - 40k was quite possibly influenced by Nemesis...Though obviously 2000AD isnt half as good as it was when I was younger...mutter, grumble

Dont see why you couldn't set such an Agency up - a semi-offical/subcontracted arm of the Arbities sounds a logical place to start, and I think the whole the S&D Doghouse idea slots right in.

Neanderthal and Proud!

I dislike the idea of an Imperium wide organisation of bounty hunters, but on a smaller scale it seems fine. I wouldn't involve the Arbites, but instead have it as a shady body sanctioned by various planetary governments in the sector.
I like to remember things my own way... Not necessarily the way they happened.

Inquisitor - Blood Bowl - Malifaux - Fairy Meat

Necris

Necris has always made use of a network of bounty hunter/desperado operatives, it allows him to direct these operatives to less important duties such as tracking down leads and low level targets. those who regularly appear in his warbands are the cream of the crop his very best.

Unoffically they are led by his now ex acoylte and newly promoted Inquisitor Jerrad Cross, while their main points of contract and contact are usually Drake and Serpentine.

I could bash something up for the Carthaxian Conclave I suppose.....

Nemesis?  Heh, 40k has been "inspired" by almost everything in 2000ad!  I'm amazed Space Marines don't have chips that can be removed when they die and put into other Marine's weapons, and even then, the Gene-Seed is close :P On a more obvious note...  Look at the damn Arbites!  If the Lawgiver was a shotgun, there'd be no difference!

Aaanyway, back on topic...  Yeah, an S/D equivalent would work really well as a Warband.  Depending on how mercenary you wanted to get, you could possibly put an alien of some kind in there, too?  Mainly so they can get marks that have fled out of Imperial space and onto anti-human worlds?
Proud devotee to Mork.  Or the Emperor.  Whichever one doesn't get me killed.

There's an organized mercenary/bounty hunter guild in the Calixis Sector, described, IIRC, in the Inquisitor's Handbook.  I can't recall its name off the top of my head, but I'm sure someone will be along to remind me in a second.

*flicks through book*

You might be thinking of the Sons of Dispater (pg31) or the Brotherhood of Thollos (pg37), probably the latter.

The Sons are basically a mercenary force loyal only to the highest bidder that gradually changed in nature to suit higher paying clients by becoming adept at assassination.

And the Brothehood are a criminal gang that spread across the sector and became a mass network of hired thugs and mercenaries, offering "the most professional, brutal and expensive stubjacks, heavies, thieves and bagmen".
It's all fun and games until someone shoots their own guy with a Graviton gun instead of the MASSIVE SPIDER.

Or possibly the Malfian Bloodsworn? (alternative rank on pg 66/67)

That seems like a large, organized group of bounty hunters.

So having an Imperium sized organisation isn't possible, which is understandable considering the sheer size of the Imperium, but would a sector wide organisation be reasonable? Or would a sub sector be more reasonable? Speaking of which, how big is each?

Giving it the backing of various Planetary Governor's would also make it a profitable business, but it'd need something else to supplement it. Unless it takes a cut of the Bounties, but even then, part of the Strontium Dog idea is that they're the dregs, so the SD headquarters isn't a Mansion, it's a bit of a dump (if i remember correctly). With that in mind, i'm already picturing a cowboy esque home planet for the Organisation.

Necris, does Cross directly co ordinate them, or is it a sort of commission, i.e. they come to him with people who're wanted but havn't been directly sent after them.

Chipperz, due to that, i now have a legitimate reason to get the Leogante model, it's sexy as, and it can be an Alien.

Would anyone be able to give me a brief description of those other three, the Malfian, Dispater, and Thollos dudes, they seem a little more organised than what i had in mind.

Necris

Through Necris Cross is the one to issue the warrants and is the POC for those wishing to take up those warrants.

Though in Necris' case Cross more or less has full command of those under the Inquisitors employ, however Cross is not beyond sub contracting should the need for local knowledge/extra manpower/ low level importance etc arise. He also allows those specialists such as Drake and Serpentne the freedom when not needed to keep their eye in so to speak.

What I was planning on laying out for the Cathaxian Conclave is a semi official body which acts as a sub-contractor for the planetary enforcement agencies, being free to cross systems and planets in pursuit of their bounties.

I had speculated that this could organisation would act mainly as a well established fixer network taking jobs and either contacting the most suitable candidate or posting jobs on a public forum for bounty hunters to view and select jobs that are either ideal for them or gain them the best reputation, this last method of advertising can also lead to conflict within the group which would make for more fun scenarios.

Can you tell I've been watching Cowboy Bebop.....

That organisation is the exact thing i was thinking of. I mean, i doubt all Bounty Hunters would have the Inquisitorial backing that yours do, but i can see those scenarios of Bounty Hunters trying to get the same person being quite interesting.

One of the things i was thinking of was the guy in charge of it, and i've been dieing to make a character from the Armoury Section of the Rulebook, he's in it several times, a big fat dude with lots of guns in the background, a character like him would, to me, be the guy who's in charge of the group, mostly cause he's fat.
