Inquisitor scale jeep!

A while ago I started to convert a vehicle for use in inquisitor games. The model I used was an M998 command vehicle.

I started by putting the majority of the kit together, I just left it open at the back as it would be an open topped vehicle. The kit was very detailed which was nice, especially as it was quite cheap.

The vehicle was intended for use by my warband of bounty hunters. I have posted one of the characters, Mattias, but he and the others are still Wip's. The idea for the jeep was that they had needed a vehicle for whatever reason, found this thing in a scrap yard, and converted it themselves, adding armour plate etc. So the look would be quite ramshackle and thrown together.

So I started by adding wire mesh to the windows, various armour plates and bars around the windows.

I then made a ram for the front for some more killy fun. I also had to make new seats as the ones that came with the kit were far to small.

This is quick mock up of what it would look like. The big strip of plasticard at the back was just to show where corrugated card would be.

Thats how the jeep stood for quite some time. Until last week when I finally found a way to make some corrugated card that looked good and was the right size. So I surrounded the back with corrugated card, added some supports and finally used green stuff to simulate welding along various lines. After a quick spray with some primer, its ready to paint at last.  ;D

The wheels and ram have not been glued on yet.

Let me know what you think   :)

That is awesome, the seats need a texture on them though to stop them looking.....blank, but great work. What scale is the model and are you going to do a model for the driver.
If you catch sight of me twice your either lucky or not worth exterminating

Looks great!

I think the bonnet (or hood, depending on your locale), and front grill are still a bit too recognisably modern day. Perhaps some armour plates on the bonnet, especially spiked ones, and a wire mesh grill would look good.

Thanks for pointing out the seats. I had planned to texture them, must have forgotten about them lol. Glad you like it though.

I will probably leave the front grill, as its going to be covered by the ram you wont really see it. But armour plates on the bonnet makes sense and will look good. Wont be too hard to add them either.

It's on the box in the top photo: 1:35

It looks good so far, although I have a personal general leaning towards using 1:24 vehicle kits (I have some stuff that awaits building, should I ever find the time), as the true-scale nature of these kits tends to mean that 1:35 looks far too small and flimsy in my eyes, whereas 1:24 looks appropriately bigger and bulkier against the heroicly proportioned Inquisitor figures.

Any chance of a scale shot with an Inq fig next to it or standing on the back platform?

Looks very mad max road warrior to me, which is good! Be quite cool if you could get a pintle mounted web gun on there, seeing as they are bounty hunters and such.

Also as Heroka said, a scale shot with a figure would be cool :)

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

I love your work!
This looks excellent and very Orkish too.

As for jeeps and similar vehicles here are some models i intend to use in the near future as =I= cars:

Looking good, really interested in 54mm vehicles myself and this is helping. I think what Van Helser said about the bonnet makes sense, but i think what really makes it too modern day is the lights. If they were replace with some bigger slightly clunky looking ones I think it would really change the look a lot. Also it'd be good to see some rivets on those wheel-plates, looking a bit plain to me atm.

hate to break it to you, but those are all 1:24 and would be too small for Inquisitor.

If they're 1:24 then they're not too small for Inquisitor, in fact they're technically a bit too big (but given the heroic proportions of GW stuff should actually work pretty well).
I like to remember things my own way... Not necessarily the way they happened.

I've found this tutorial, since You mentioned planning to work on the seats-
http://www.briansmodelcars.com/tutorials/tutorial/40
this might be time consuming, but seems to look great :) that is of course if You think a rough vehicle like that deserves leather upholstery :)

When it comes to the hummer, personally I'd elongate the light panel slightly upwards producing a sharper angle at the hood, so that the air holes on top are covered from the front- I'm sure I've seen a car hood like that once, but can't seem to find any pictures of such at the moment. That would certainly turn it from "hummer-like" to "generic military vehicle"

They do seem slightly too big- I'll try to post a picture of my servitor next to a Renault 4cv (tiny car irl) later

got it, hope it woks :)

@Lordi: Thanks for the tutorial, ill have a read  :)

I am happy with the size of it, and the slightly non-40k look it has. The idea was that it wasnt a military vehicle but just an ordinary car that they armoour plated for their own use. So I dont really mind if its a tad small. It works for its intended purpose.

Here are some scale shots as requested:

Shannow

Scale looks dead on to me! And to my mind at least I think it accentuates the normal car that has been haphazardly armour plated look, very cool. Look forward to it being painted :)

i think scale-wise it helps a lot that you've essentially used a bulky humvee model as the basis.

I didnt get time to do any more work on the seats but I have started to paint it.

I started out by undercoating the parts that will be rusted metal with watered down tin bitz:

These bits were then given a couple of dry brushes of boltgun metal:

I also painted the underside of the jeep. Only did this very roughly as it wont often be seen. I painted as much as I could with black then picked out a couple of details with boltgun. I then lightly dry brushed the rest with boltgun and gave it all a very thinned wash of bestial brown:

I then gave the jeeps paint work a coat of midnight blue:

And then I ran out of time  :) Hopefully more will get done next week. Let me know what you think!
