Title: A Return to Modelling
Post by: Necris on January 25, 2011, 11:19:38 PM
Well after injuring my hand and damaging the tendons halfway through last year my hobby activities virtually stopped all together, come the new year I've been working on a 28mm project for 40K and I think my hand has recovered enough for more detailed work and painting.

I thought I'd start with something light and construct a NPC goon squad using the Russian Insurgent models.

First up a duel axe wielding thug

And another wielding axe and auto carbine

Two heavies one with an autogun

And the second with a las carbine

And finally their leader

I have to say that the Insurgents while crude are a great set to work with and I intend to get myself another set of 5 to build this merry band of thugs into a versatile NPC group

I've also started work on a new inquisitor which I'll hopefully be able to post some pictures towards the end of the week or moving into next week.

I do think the russian plastics are a superb basis for cheap and easy NPCs of virtually any appearance - if anyones wanted a specific historical military style the russian plastics can probably give you a close enough match for minor NPCs, especially if you factor in minor conversion work.

Those Ork hands really are perfectly in scale with these plastics.

A little wide at the wrist but that is because GW model their wrists much rounder that most others

but with some trimming yes they are perfect fits

Ok so a bit more work tonight I kicked off with my newest Inquisitor

I Present Inquisitor Nero Telum

I need to do some tidying on the GS and to finish off the right hand pistol, I'm unsure of the left hand pistol I'm tempted to change it for something else but I want to keep the weapon exotic I'm having a ponder as to what I could change it to but I'm considering something unique to the character.

anyway C&C welcome

Good to see you back.

Nice work so far on the Insurgents. Are you going to trim their feet a bit? (they are just huge, aren't they?)

I also like the beginnings of the Inquisitor. What head are you planning to use? Are you going to sculpt a robe join and some sort of fasteners on to the stomach area? I think that would look good.

Yeah I think I'll attempt to trim the feet, they are a little fat

That's a good idea with the front I'll give it a go and see what I can come up with

Ok I have a conundrum

For Inquisitor Telum I want him to have an unusual weapon, he's presently armed with a stubber, and a neural shredder, but I'm not overly keen on the shredder

One of the traits I was inclined towards for the character was to make him a pariah and play on that possibly giving him something that only a pariah could use, I contemplated an animus but have no idea how to

1 construct such a weapon

2 write the rules for it

or I could give him another weapon

Ok I've been working today and I have a update

First is Inquisitor Telum

And second I found a mini I'd started a long time ago and I've forgotten when her purpose so she's been reassigned as one of Telum's retinue.

I like what you have done with Telum's coat - that was exactly what I had in mind.

I also like the guns you have constructed. The creativity of Conclavers in arming their models with new and different weapons never ceases to impress me.

I'm tempted to swap madams head for something else just to take it away from the stock model

I recommend this (http://www.historexagents.com/shop/hxproductdetail.php?ProductCode=30373) pack of heads if you want an alternative to the standard head. It contains the one that Kaled used on Lillith (http://kaled100.atspace.com/lillith.JPG), and the one that I used on this enforcer. (http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f330/ratbag23/enforcer1.jpg)

What head did you use on Telum?  It looks familiar, but I can't place it.

A butchered Covenant I had lying round, with GS which needs working to cover the worst of the damage but the head isn't glued on yet so hair detailing will have to wait.
