Title: Sage
Post by: kierkegaard on February 01, 2011, 04:43:39 PM
No progress on other projects yet, but I just finished work on this model that has been in the wip stage for a long time.

He is a sage who accompanies Inquisitor Rach.

Ooh, nice :) That's a very effective paint scheme. Is it Liam Neeson?

yeah it is, its supposed to be him in the movie kingdom of heaven theres also a version of orlando bloom from the same movie. I love what you've done with this figure mostly because the movie its based off of is one of my favourites and its beautifully done

Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad that you like it.

The base model is 'The Crusader' from Nocturna.

Here (http://historicartminiatures.com/?page_id=108) is a link to how it breaks down. All I did was replace the left hand with the hand and staff from La Meridiana's Sacajawea (which can be found on this page (http://www.elgrecominiatures.co.uk/index1.html),) attach an autopistol in place of the scabbard, and give him a shoulder pad from Van Yastobaal.

Edit- I forgot to mention that I replaced his boots with Von Castellan's boots because the original feet are quite small and he was very tall in his original state (he is still pretty tall now, but he was almost as tall as my Scout model.)

I know you've got some manual dexterity problems, atm, Nick, but a bit of Imperial-themed free hand on the scarf would really lift him into the Dark Millennium.

That would definitely look good, but I can't free hand even when both my hands are functioning! Maybe I should commision you to do it...

Maybe i should put a brass etch eagle or =][= symbol on his shoulder pad to give him a bit of a 40K touch (the auto pistol is the only thing at the moment.)

You might like to get a permanent 0.1 fine liner. Copy a suitable design onto paper, then apply it to the scarf with a soft pencil.  Draw over the pencil lines with the pen.

Or send it to me.  Obviously. ;)

I say give him a black eagle tattoo on the head, where the hair is cropped - should be doable with a pen.

Also, as someone who thought that freehand was utterly beyond him, your only excuse is the damaged hand. Just buy a small brush, and give it a go. Its actually really fun, as you get a good result quickly, unlike the bane of my life, highlighting.

a brass-etch eagle as a broach/clasp on the scarf would perhaps be an idea?

I appreciate the suggestions for improving the look of the model, but I can't freehand to any level that I find satisfactory, and I won't spoil a paint job that I am reasonably satisfied with by making a mess on top of it.

With this model in particular, I wouldn't even know where to put a design, or a clasp for that matter, as I don't see a join in the scarf (it seems more like it is meant to be a rucked up circular bit of cloth with a neck hole in it) and the folds make it very difficult to determine what is what.

Lovely paint job Nick.

I would leave him as he is. I am from 21st century England but don't have a St George's cloth on any piece of clothing. Nor do I have a tattoo of the Royal Coat of arms.

Free hands are lovely but put him next to other members of a warband and he'll just blend in as another bloke IMO.
