Title: Finally back to work- Mercenary sniper, painted
Post by: judge-minos on March 01, 2011, 05:17:47 AM
Hi guys, I finally reorganized my life a little and find some time to do some Inquisitor modelling.
I have a lot of stuff at various stages of assembling and painting and I did not know from where to start.
I decided to keep it fun by choosing the models at random in a sort of lottery and this was my first winner in the sculpting category:

and a size comparison with a well known model (the arm will be attached after the painting)

I bought few years ago a group of 6 naked ladies from a obscure company to use as base for NPC characters. This is Nadia which for now is only a mercenary sniper, I liked the pose but not the arms so I used a couple of spare Barbaretta forearms. The head was really badly cast but the hat kind of fix it

I have not decided yet how to paint her except that I would like her to look indian. Anybody has suggestions for how to achieve that sort of skin tone ??

Critics are welcome and look forwrd to more activity from me from now on.

Ciao

Welcome back to the Conclave!

awesome mercenary, you're not bad at sculpting! I think it would be cool if her face got a bit more character, a few scars maybe, since the mercenary killing-people-for-money business isn't known for it's beauty-queens.  ;)

As for the skin-tone, you could try with a base of dark flesh, followed by a wash of ogryn flesh or even devlan mud, highlight it with tallarn flesh and then wash it again untill you get the tone you like.

Great looking (mostly) scratch build you have going there.  It's always nice to see something completely original and hand made.

Since you clearly have some sculpting skill, I'll go ahead and ask: I've seen a variety of putties used, what's the gray putty here and what purpose do you use it for (versus green stuff)?  I've purchased milliput before but found that it was far more fickle than GS and have used it as a base to bulk things out/filler before adding detail with GS.  Any tips?

Thanks everybody for the support.

I started this model as a way to use left over putty when doing other things. I used some miliput at the beginning but only for the feet. The switch happened  by chance, the grey stuff is pro-create and I saw it used on the forum by Kaled and precint Omega, I tried it and find is as good as green stuff and great for details.

Great to see you back on here, and with a fantastic looking model. That is really great looking sculpting. I look forward to seeing it painted.

BTW, is there any chance you could put together a retrospective gallery for us?

Very nice mate. Very nice indeed. I like the t-shirt. The green works well. The face seems a little flat but I think you used a flash? so that may be washing out the details and highlights.

Nice work. I particularly like the animal skin trophy and the mismatched base - metal plating and wooden floor boards look very odd and characterful.

Is that a scar under her left eye? What is the bit on her left hip?
