Title: On the road again.
Post by: BrotherLudovic on March 07, 2011, 07:05:36 AM
Hello all,

I'm Ludovic, new here, though I have been lurking on the forum for a little while now.

I was first drawn to Inquisitor a few years ago (can't exactly remember when or why) and I've been in and out for that amount of time. This time though, after being inspired by Commissar Molotov's Inq28 Blog and other models on the board,  I'm here to stay.

It may seem strange to some people that I have chosen to collect and play 28mm models, so I will explain. I'm a high school student in Switzerland (though I was born and brought up in good ol' Berkshire) and my income is a thin trickle, so not much money to spend on Warhammer and other hobbies. Second, I have no access to sites like eBay and the like due to my parents being pretty much against the whole Warhammer thing.

Anyway, that's enough about me and my life ;)

I hope that I'll be able to start pretty soon on some models and I'm already writing up the profiles for some of them, so I will post them shortly :)

Welcome to the conclave

Nothing wrong with using 28mm models, so long as you give them a bit of peronality and they don't look like they've just come from a battlefield.  Molotov's blog is a pretty good inspiration on that count.

A Big Purple Welcome???  Heretic!!

Very curious to hear that the parents are anti-Warhammer.  Perhaps it's not entirely on topic, but what is there issue with miniatures wargaming?

They find some of the artwork (understand: most) disturbing and they don't like the whole war-related thing. They didn't mind me painting models but as the GW ones are linked to war, they don't like it. I would understand if I was playing some ultra-violent horror video game or spending my days playing some MMORPG, but in this case, I find it kind of stupid.

Anyway, cheers for the welcome :)

They don't like the 'war' part of wargaming, huh?

That's a new one on me, but in high-school I did have a friend with very religious parents who didn't like the inclusion of 'magic' in Warhammer (we ended up just playing 40K, and telling them that the daemon models were different verities of aliens).

I'm sure it won't have much effect, but you might like to refer them to this thread on popular parenting forum, Mumsnet, on which I wrote an explanation for parents of the benefits and positive aspects of the hobby:

Cheers for the link precinctomega. I read your post, but I'm not going to show it to my parents as their opinion about wargames is the same as it was 6 years ago when I started. :/
