Title: Inquisitor Valentine & Retinue
Post by: Aurelius 12 on April 22, 2011, 09:14:22 PM
Right then, I promised models for my latest characters (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1472.0) and here they are!

First off is Inquisitor Ignatius Valentine, a firey no-nonsense and deeply puritanical (in appearance) member of the Ordo Hereticus who spends much of his time dealing out redemption. Two barrels of it to be precise.

As you can see, he's Slick's head on Covenant's body on Eisenhorn's legs, with Major Jackson's laspistol arm for the shotgun and a Covenant arm for the stubber. I'm going to do some more sculpt work around his waist to make the two fit more naturally. In the character thread I said I was sculpting a set of hammers for the Shotgun stock, that failed miserably so instead I'm just using the =][= pendant as a hammer!

Next up is Davin Sett, the researcher, interrorgator and torturer of the group. When I imagined the character I had  Leiutenant Thorne (http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Alastair_Thorne) from BSG in my head, and curiously the Andreas Miniatures Definitely not Jean Luc Picard figure seemed rather appropriate. His proportions, like most 54mm figures, don't square brilliantly alongside GW figures but ultimately he just looks rather tall and lanky which isn't too bad. Anyway, here he is with his excrutiator.

Again he's not finished as I'm still thinking of ways to GrimDark him up, but I'm rather happy with the figure so far.

Lastly for now is Corvus de Pace, who is definitely not inspired by everyone's favourite free-running Florentine harbinger of death and general ladies man (http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Ezio_Auditore_da_Firenze).

Honest.

See.

A very simple conversion- Scarn's head and a couple of swords is pretty much the only difference. Once again there's still some filing/filling to be done before he gets a paint job.

Still to come is the 4th Member of the band, Sergeant Orla Phrix, so watch this space.

As always, C&C greatly appreciated.

Very nice work, can't wait to see them painted. I'd love to see a pic of the Interrogator side-by-side with your inquisitor, just to get a sense of the scale your talking about.

Your wish is my command. It's not ideal as they're not quite side by side. Davin is exactly 54mm tall, he just needs to eat more that's all!

So, an update. All the group have been given a basecoat including Orla, played by the fantastic Reaper 'Belladonna' figure.

I'm going to start painting these guys alongside all the goodies in my campaaign log. Corvus is getting a shameless rip-off of Ezio de Auditorre's infamous white and red assassin's garb. Not sure about the Inquisitor, but Davin is getting some rather muted blue/black uniform.

Orla will probably have camoflauge on what little clothing she wears. To blend in with the table I play on most frequently (my own) I'm going to go for a similar scheme to that of my Aurelian Airborne (http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb379/AurelianAirborne/Infantry1.jpg) IG army.

She looks very cool,, BUT that is a huge gun t be holding in one hand isn't it? And she's not exactly a body builder..

Still great mini!

She looks great, perhaps she has some suspensors built into the gun?

The gun is almost exactly as long as a lasgun, so yeah the one-handed pose is a tad excessive. Generally she'll be weilding it in two hands though. Suspensors sounds like a very good line of reasoning excuse.  ;D

I quite like Davin Sett as a concept, I don't know if you've written up background, but...

I saw that you wanted to grimdark him a bit more. Maybe give him a teargas-grenade to smoke out his targets from rooms/areas and a hallucinogen-grenade(did I spell that right?) to just cause some grimdark havoc. Also, maybe an elaborate tattoo would help? A bionic eye after a prisoner escaped from an interrogation and stabbed his eye with a pencil?

The grenade idea is a good one. During his first campaign he's ended up rather badly burnt, so I'll possibly paint him in such a manner, I really like the bionic eye idea though. Time to raid the bitz box...

Burned, boltered, battered, terrified, possessed, stabbed and then left on a feral world in the middle of a warp storm, if I recall. I don't know what it was, but he was the only one of your entire party to take damage with any regularity.
In the spirit of which, I would remind you that you left him with a cargo cult-like tribe of feral worlders for an indeterminate amount of time. Don't know if that's something you'd wanna factor in or not. Grenades sound good, too.

Then he has suffered a lot, I would love to see the influence of the cargo cult somewhere.

Hi- do you have any painted pictures of either Ignatius Valentine or Corvus de Pace?

They are both excellent conversions that i would love to see more of. Corvus is just oozing Awesomeness!!

Thanks

James

Hi

Well they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Inspired by your awesome Corvus de Pace, I have tried a similar conversion- I just need a suitable sword to finish my conversion.

I have flipped weapons around so that carrying sword in left hand and pistol in right (to differentiate him from my main Inquisitor model who is also based on Eisenhorn who has daemon sword in right hand).

I am thinking of using him as an NPC to represent a member of Ordo Sicarius. Either a Recongregator or possibly an Istvaanian.

Thanks for the inspiration.

James
