Title: Crisis Team Gilgamesh- Pics and WIP
Post by: SpanielBear on June 06, 2011, 08:22:46 PM

Well, I've been promising this for a while, but I've finally gotten round to posting up some actual models. Criticism and comments most welcome, and I should add that I am colourblind- if any colour combo looks utterly outrageous, please please let me know- I won't be offended, and it is probably for the benefit of all that I am told...
Information on the characters and the their profiles can be found in the rules section of the conclave, under Crisis Team Gilgamesh

Leading from the front, as is his wont, first we have Inquisitor Prometheus Steel, complete with his Nice Hat

Profile:

Back:

Next up, we have Matthias Bernberg, Revolutionary Preacher and Pious Psyker. At this point in time, he appears to be wearing makeup. I refer you back to my earlier comments about colourblindness, but if a man with a sawn off shotgun and a hammer wants to look nice, I don't feel inclined to stop him... I also need to touch up his hair, so there's still some work to do.

Back:

And finally, for now, Horatius Roland, ex-palace guard and a walking wall of armour and muscle. And stupidity.

Back:

And so, here is the warband, as it stands:

Hope you all like! Once again, any criticisms or comments, friendly remarks or helpful pointers, all will be gratefully received.

Very good models (considering your vision impairment). The conversions are very well executed. I never got round to reading the rules for these models. I probably will now.

Love the "kick me" guard

Loving all the bucklers.

Vot a Nize hat indeed.

Indeed, that hat be pimpin', and no mistake.

Excellent hat! But Mathias easily my favourite, looks fantastic.

Nice hat

I'm not sure if the walking wall of muscle is the stupid one, or the ones who put 'kick me' on his back ... I wouldn't want to be around if he finds out...

Thanks for all the positive comments, I'm glad the Nice Hat has met with approval. It had been a while since I painted, and I'm enjoying getting back into the swing of it. The next model has been purchased, so watch this space  ;)
As for the kick me sign- There may well be angry tantrums if Horatius discovered it, Ulgavitch, but he'd need to find someone to read it for him first. Any volunteers?  ::)

If you hadn't mentioned you were colourblind, I'd never have noticed. I love his pimpin' hat - maybe it would work better with the rest of the model if you used that same colour elsewhere, maybe instead of the red, but hey, if it looks good to you, who am I to complain!

Also, I really like Matthias' face. You mentioned he looks like he's wearing make-up, but I think that really works for him. Rather than him looking camp, he actually looks very French Renaissance/Georgian, which is very *very* 40k. Perhaps if you painted on a little black spot or heart onto his cheek, much akin to the small pieces of felt used to coverup smallpox scars, would really finish him off! He's got a real 'dramatic thespian' feel to him. Good job!

This is an utterly excellent idea, and one I will certainly look into. Not sure if my brushwork is up to the task, but worth a try, for sure.

A WIP, this time, for Vasily Belaya Smert Mark II. This is my first real attempt at building up weapons, and I feel I overshot  ::). No matter, it will make it easier to paint I'm sure. Aurelius 12 can be blamed in absentia, for planting the idea of a 'double barreled sniper rifle' in my head in the first place  ;)

Not included in these pictures is the grappling hook, as that proved a tricksy thing to model. Guitar wire and greenstuff: I'm finding these items... tempremental at the moment

I really like the model that's used as the base, where's it's from? the Picklehauber is great. As is the pistol, fits really well with the feel of the model. A really nice Autopistol, looks a lot like  some of the machine pistols my gun nut friends have.

The Rifle, though, looks cumbersome, (although a sound concept). I'd think it needs a bipod at the end of the barrel, but the main issue is the positions he's holding it in. I think the hand swapped around so he's cradeling the rifle under his arm might look a little better, but it's an awkkward position.

I know what you mean about the rifle arm. The base model is meant to be peering around a wall, with his weapon in the left hand (historex minatures, SO30, Prussian Infantryman). When I realised the 40k-ified gun was never going to fit that way, I did the best I could. I see it as him actually in the process of setting it down, having heard something nearby- which also explains why he's got his side-arm out.
But that's a fairly convoluted explanation for an awkward sculpt. A bipod is something I've been considering, truth be told, and I think it's going to have to happen. But the gun is too big, realistically, no matter what I do with him. Eh bien, this is the nature of a learning curve.

I really like the rifle! Has that too stupid to be TRUE feel to it but that's very 40k I feel. Problem being he would only be able to carry that!

DO you have a scale shot next to a normal inq mini?

I'm afraid not, at the moment, it's my flatmate's camera and they're currently away.

I can tell you that he's a a bit less than a head shorter than Prometheus (Mr. Pimping Hat), but he is hunched. So height wise about the same, but it's more that he's quite a slim individual compared to the others so far. Lightweight materials for ease of transportation, maybe? Internal stability servos? As I've said in the specialist ammo thread, I reckon it would take a while to make ready and fire the thing; no hip-shooting.

Trouble is I don't really know what to do about the model- I like the rifle itself, and I don't want to start hacking at it and spoil a good thing. On the other hand, if people find it too ridiculous, then after a certain point it starts to get in the way of WYSIWYG.

Ave

Given the sniper is your first attempt its quite reasonable, and okay the positioning of the guns in Vasily's hands look a bit awkward, but it gives you a few choices:
1: Fiddle around with the model a bit to make the pose a little more conventional,
2: Come up with a fluffy justification such as "Vasily is a hunchback/eccentric who carries his guns thus, but it doesn't matter because he's still more than capable of shooting you in the face."
3: break out the claw hammer.

For a similarly big heavy, really long anti-material/sniper rifle check out the Gepard:
http://www.enemyforces.net/firearms/gepard.htm
The Gepard M3 is about six foot long, so fits in quite nicely with your model, and also happens to be a beast of a gun, so appropriate for how you use it.

Vasily has been painted, and here he is. It took a long time to decide what colour to do the rifle, I went for a couple of different camos st first, but neither looked at all right. Ended up going for factory standard for a gun the Ad Mech would see as a slight cut above the usual lasgun, which Vasily disguises in the field using a camo blanket or some such. It does now have bipod support struts, folded away (or else I can't see how the model could be transported without them constantly falling off...)

Anyway, here he is:

Side:

And from the rear:

Finally, to answer Shannow's query about size differences:

That's all for now, thanks for the feedback so far, keep it coming and we'll see if I can improve  :) . Pierre and Mary still to come.

I like the rifle, he has the look of placing it down carefully and quietly to me, good height as well. Will have to look at that range.

The folded bipod really makes a difference to me, very nice!

Looking really good.

One small suggestion I would make is to dry brush the gravel on the base with a slightly lighter colour to give it just a tad more definition and depth to the ground.

Hello all.

It's been a while, but the results of the latest round of painting and modeling are looking promising. Pierre Bonnot is now ready for public viewing, albeit still a social pariah in all other respects. The model is from the S.M.O.G 1888 range, and as such is a little smaller and slimmer than your average model. As Pierre is a wiry, ratlike individual with all the toughness and politesse of a piece of well-used tissue, this isn't a problem. Here he is then, along with his pet rat, Grincement.

Front View:

Back:

And a head shot:

Comments and Criticism welcomed as always, hope you like. Mary Chatelet will be next, and last for the warband.
