Title: Ecclesiarchy Deacon & Dramatis Personae
Post by: Lacerto on July 10, 2011, 11:39:26 PM
Here is my attempt at recreating the grotesque looking Ecclesiarch on p137 of the rulebook.

In addition to many chins he has a book of scriptures and a decent sized chainsword (http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab308/Lacerto1/INQ_Deacon2.jpg). The text around his sleeve is press moulded from his robe.

I've also been inspired by some of the cool imagery in the new WH40K rulebook to make my clerk (http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab308/Lacerto1/clerk1.png) a bit more grim (http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab308/Lacerto1/INQ_Clerk_Hood2.jpg).

In addition I'm keen to finish off my guards. I've got some lasguns, but I'm a bit unsure how best to make smart looking stocks that will fit my characters without blobbing green stuff everywhere. Any ideas?

The Esslesiarch looks very good, your sculpting is awesome! I like the book on the chest especially and the goggles are a nice touch. In terms of the stocks for the lasgun, have you tried using plasticard, it might work well?

How about bent wire, to represent folding stocks?

Thanks for the comments. The book was quite quick to make, I made a rectangle of green stuff and put it on a plastic packet, cut into the edges with a knife to square it off and make the pages, then put the central crease in with the sculpting tool. I then popped it off the plastic when it was dry and glued it on.

I've not tried to track down plasticard; I've always made do with cereal packet and bits of sprue. Maybe I shoudl give it a try. I like the idea of folding stocks as well.

I've started blocking in the colour for the churchman (http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab308/Lacerto1/ecclesiarch2.jpg). Gold and blood red livery represent the two tributes we must all pay to the Emperor.

Here is the latest update to Hierophantus of Accentis, High Confessor of the 13th Episcopal District (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1709.0). The flashlights on his shoulders are from the reference picture, and seem to make sense as metaphores for the light of the Emperor shining forth upon His flock and His enemies alike.

I've tried to show embroidery (http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab308/Lacerto1/HierophantusWIP2.jpg) based on the kind of decoration sometimes found on religious chasubles. It hides the not great blending I'd done on his robes.

I also managed to make a passable looking lasgun stock for my Vobochan guardsmen from greenstuff. I'd been trying to sculpt one in place, but it just went everywhere. I made this by making the stock on a plastic box, then trimming it down to size.

I did have a go at trying to make folding stocks, but the wires I tried either looked a bit too clumsy, or I was worried they wouldn't be sufficiently robust.

Both models are looking pretty good. I like the freehand patterns on the confessor.

Where's the head for the guardsman from?

The heads are from Historex Agents, I definitely recommend those guys, very swift delivery. The manufacturer is Andrea and the pack is called 5 cabezas napoleonicas con shako. The detail is great on them; they have moustaches, always fun, and attachable braiding and plumes.

Here are updates for Thoridian and Johan, two of my four-man Ilythia Conclave team:

The red, white and white and gold theme tie in with the rest of the warband, the grey uniform sets them apart. Hopefully they'll look cool together.

Love the look of these guardsmen.  There aren't enough blue-blooded guardsmen around!
