Hello everyone.
Here is my blog for many armed monstrosities and creatures who are otherwise forewarned.
My first WIP model is a serpentine Sslyth from the recent dark elder book.

The model is based on an old pewter dragon tail with I bent into shape. I'v finished sculpting his head and most of the scales. He currently stands 69mm from base to eye. As you have probably nociced he is unarmed at the moment, I'll be using the arms from various other figures, I will probably sculpt the weapons and body armour before adding his arms. Although the 28mm counterpart is on a
larger base than a regular human I think he fit nicely on the 40mm base.
This chap I am yet to add any thing to.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6153/6171122533_9f58f2284b.jpg)(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6153/6171653766_6ebb664696.jpg) I believe it was original intended as some sort of basilisk. I think I will make him into a Tarellian Dog-soldier being reptilian and having a dog like stance although there is no mention of the number of limb they have, the only image showing just the head. I thought about making him a juvenile/adolescent zoat but he seams to be a biped who is able to be on all(some) fours rather than a reptilian centaur.
Woot Sslyth! :D
X3 I love the idea of the Sslyth, they're an awesome new race, and I love the GW model for them. I too have considered doing them for inquisitor 28mm, but seeing one in 54mm scale is pretty amazing. Nice job!
Nice sculpting work!
Those scales must have taken ages... XD
That Sslyth has me ssalivating :p Great sculpting work; look forward to seeing what you do with him weapons and armour wise.
(also, bonus points for using a mutated quote from my joint-favourite book as a title :D )
Tremendous sculpting work and to date a very nice execution of embiggening the 28mm model.
The other chap is interesting - I don't think he's bulky enough to be a Zoat, but Tarellians...could just work :)
Great sculpting! I was wondering how long it'd be until someone made a 54mm version.
As for the little guy, I'd almost say that, given the pose of the front arms, you'd be as well applying you're sculpting skills to making forearms and head into a larger head, making it into a hunting beast of sorts for the sslyth.
Wow! That's a great model and unique too! I Seriously want one.
I've seen these xenos before but I don't know much about them. Are you going to fit it into your warband. Or make it one of your baddies?
I can't wait to see any further updates. :)
Thanks for the comments every one :)
The scales of the Sslyth were rather simple to do actually, the only real difficulty is making the consistent. here is the tutorial for those interested http://www.chaos-dwarfs.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=606
As for how they will fit I'm not sure most likely as lone mercenaries of some sort but using then a baddies in some games might work as well.
Just a small update at the moment.
I am yet to make more progress with the Sslyth but the armour and weapons willl be based on those from the original model.
I'v decided that the six limed lizard will be a Tarellian. I have built up upon the preexisting head making it elongated any with more protruding teeth as shown in the only existing illustration.

Here is a 54mm necron scarab I did a wile ago but never posted up.

The body of the scarab is build from a spare shield but other than that its completely from scratch. I think scarabs look better with legs although it would probably be impractical a 40k scale. I know it doesn't really have arms but six articulated metallic claws are always good.

Like the scarab very much. Like an early one crossed with the newer ones. Lovely work all round.

Eh, not especially, the modern artwork has always depicted scarabs with long thin legs, it's just the plastic model had to have short stubby ones because of the limitations of casting at the time. I wouldn't be terribly surprise if the upcoming Necrons rerelease had pointy-legged scarabs, what with their plastic advances lately.
Here is an update on the Sslyth the arms are temporally attached to give an idea what it will look like.

I'v started building up the armour and the weapons. the lower arms are from Adeptus Arbites Judge and the upper from Sergeant Stone. There is still a lot more to be done to the torso yet.

A little more work done on the tarellian giving him some armour plating which shall be held on by straps.

Recently Iv been working on some 54mm tyranids all still works in progress based upon models from my old 40k army.

I'm making a gargoyle from a metal ravener. The waist and neck were re-sculpted allowing for the head and torso to be repositioned. The tail was scratch sculpted around a piece of wire attached to the body. His fleshborer was also scratch sculpted apart for a few pieces of guitar wire. The large spiracles protruding from the back carapace were trimmed as was the frill at the back of the head. There is also extra sculpting on the head to make it resemble that of a gargoyle further.
Why have Four arms when you can have six?

This is the start of my conversion work turing my forgeworld Trygon into a 54mm Ravener. The tail claws were removed being dameaged and the largest used of the fingers of the rending claws, I chose to include rending claw since it one of the most noticeable different between a ravener and a trygon apart from their size. The large spiracles are built up from plasticard fames as was the back of the head carapace, both are still incomplete. The pincers at the end of the tail are made from the metal talon of a ravener. I shall re-sculpt the eyes but I not sure wether to include a horn on the to of the head with was a feature of the metal raveners but in not in the new plastic set. The model shall be mounted on a 60mm base rather than a valkyrie base which I think would be too cumbersome, I think the tail of the resin trygon is more tightly coiled that that of the plastic.

Lastly a comparison shot with a 28mm ravener.

Current status of Jaw? Dropped.
The Gargoyle appeals to me more, partly as I think its actually vaguely killable. Put that Ravener on the field, and I think its time to run and hide... But you can never hide, you'll never know its there till it bursts from the ground next to you... oh, its nightmare time again :D
please, please don't pass that onto your brother, while your models are awesome (I've been chased down by your sky-slashers), I really don't want to have to worry about him springing that monstrosity on us. :o
I can see the argument for fielding it now...
"OH! your gonna field a squad of converted Artimis models... Yes i know i have a geenstealer conversion... well its still unfair... wait you know what, OK."
Slaps down 54mm scale Ravener.
"Your move Good Guys..."
Good thing i HATE over powerd games otherwise i'd want one of my very own :P
Seriously that thing is AMAZING. I genuinely am in awe.
I have nothing productive to add; I just wanted to say that your sculpting skills are incredible and these are some particularly beautiful pieces of work. I feel good work shouldn't go uncommended, so here I am commending you, and turning green with envy :p
Spiracles and head are now finished.

Here is a bit of terrain I'v started making based on a metal tyrant guard. I'm not sure whether it will be a Hive node or a spawn pool.

Also this is a concept image of a Ymgarl genestealer.
I think it may be nice good idea to base a unique cult warband, being independent from the hive mind. Or maybe just an interesting enemy allowing for tyranid interaction without the need for and impending swarm invasion
A Ymgarl genestealer cult is on my to build list too. I have an old Red Terror model to use as a basis as getting hold of an Inquisitor genestealer is tricky! With the Red Terror you also have the advantage of a tail. Sculpting a pelvis will be necessary, but seeing the work above, I don't think you'll have any trouble!

Sorry for the lack of updates.
Recently I got the board game 'Chaos in the Old World' and with such games there is excess card form which the various counters are cut out form. This I use to make some cheap large scale terrain.

These shall be painted in metallic colours.
It looks very interesting. Very industrial-like and fitting for the setting.
