Title: The Nimbus' WIP (Updated)
Post by: The Nimbus on October 13, 2011, 10:41:50 PM
Hey guys!

In an (hopefully not futile) effort to really get back into modeling, and in the end maybe even get to play a few games of Inquisitor, I've decided to start this thread. However slow my progress will be I'll try to update this thread whenever I make any significant steps forward. I've had quite a few ideas for models circling around in my head for a very long time, and thanks to some of the fine folks of the Conclave I've been able to acquire some very nice bits for my collection (thanks Nick and Dave). This first model isn't actually one that I had planned, but rather one that sort of just came together one night when I was staring at all my bits. He is going to be an altered version of a character that I've earlier just had on paper, a Monodominant Inquisitor-Missionary working with the Ordo Xenos to bring the Imperial Creed to fringe worlds and root out any alien contamination. He's very bare bones right now, but I've already got a right arm and head lined up, as well as an idea for the left arm.

The photos were taken with my mobile camera, but I think they turned out all right. Looking at them now I realize there's still a few mold lines on the chest that needs filing. Please let me know what you think!

Kal Jerico legs, lucky you. Nice touch using the terminator back for a powerpack.

As discussed in the OT progress on my Inquisitor models are painstakingly slow, but atleast there's progress! I've been trying to tidy up the Inquisitor-Missionary I posted last time, as well as starting work on the lead man in one of my "bad guy" retinues. Let me know what you guys think.

Seems like I really have a hard time figuring out left arms, doesn't it?

The models look very good. I especially like the icon on the Inquisitor-Missionary, it is a very nice touch. The bad guy looks good as well, it of course still needs some work but I am sure that it will look very good.

I'm probably just being overly critical, but I can't help but feel that the sleeve of his robe looks particularly unnatural in this position. (Unless gravity happened to be going backwards for some odd reason at that particular moment.)

One could almost attribute it to a very strong gust of wind, but his coat appears to be flowing in a different direction, so it looks jarring. I would be tempted to perhaps cut the arm in half, and use a different upper arm, or resculpt the sleeve, to look somewhat more natural.

But that's just me. Other than that, it's an intriguing mixture of parts that I haven't seen before. It's strange how well they all go together.

I agree, and I've been kind of at a loss what to do about it. I was just going to blame it on the wind, but now that you bring it up combining it with another top half might do the trick. Just need to find the right one. Thanks!

Looking good so far.  Ynek has pointed out the one thing I would change on the Inquisitor-Missionary.  The backpack on the mutie looks good.

Can't wait to see more progress.

More progress. I took Ynek's advice and did an over arm swap, I'm not sure the difference is just enough but I think it defiantly looks better now. The left arm is now also in place, as well as a gun and some more basing. Let me know what you think of the changes. Once I've tidied up some things on the arms with a little gs work I'm going to give painting a go.

I think it still looks a little strange but if you cut the power cable from the axe and then sculpted it to look as though the cable was going back up the sleeve then that would give a reason for the sleeve to be that far back. Either that or move the lower part of the arm back so the sleeve is hanging either side of the arm but not sure how well that would work.

It looks better now, but like Herald said, still a bit strange. The left arm is a nice touch, I havbe a bit of a weak spot for models with scrolls somehow.
