Title: Inks?
Post by: Kaled on November 11, 2011, 03:37:34 PM
Afternoon all,

After many years of use, the Skaven Brown ink that came in my old 'Citadel Expert Paint Set' has just about come to an end. So, does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

For those of you who don't remember the colours in the Expert Paint set, Skaven Brown was roughly the same colour as Devlan Mud - but much as I find Devlan Mud useful, I do want an ink rather than a wash.

I've got some good results using the 'Marron brown' ink from the Valejo paints range, although I suspect it's not quite as dark as skaven brown.

Vallejo inks? I've been meaning to try their paints for a while - maybe I'll go for their inks first. Do you know a good place to buy them online?

Other option is P3 brown ink.  Not tried it as a direct replacement, but their red is.

I can't make many recommendations for a close skaven brown match, but look outside the usual wargaming sources at 'fine art' inks too.  Daler-Rowney and Liquitex produce ranges of acrylic inks, and Winsor & Newton have a range of shellac drawing inks.  If you've got an art supply shop convenient to you, I'd be surprised if they didn't stock at least one range that you could check out.
