Title: Inquisitrix Victoria Weaver
Post by: Brother_Brimstone on November 13, 2011, 05:43:27 PM
Now that i've  finished the model  (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1772.msg23273#msg23273) I decided to finally give her some stats and a more solid backstory:

Inquisitrix Victoria Weaver

History

Victoria Weaver was born to an aristocratic family on the planet Farthor's End. She was accompanying her beloved Uncle Job, who was a Rogue Trader, on one of his 'adventures', when her planet fell to the Tyranid Hive. Word reached Job regarding his niece's home world, and the certain death of her immediate family, and so Job, who had always regarded Victoria as being akin to a daughter, adopted her as his own.

As a Rogue Trader, Job often came into contact with innumerable Xenos species, acquiring strange artifacts and gaining knowledge of other cultures to that of Man.Victoria accompanied her uncle on these missions, and over the years, under her Uncle's guidance, she acquired the skills necessary to be a Rogue Trader (such as a quick tongue and an even quicker trigger finger). She became an invaluable asset to her Uncle over the years and matured into a fine young woman, easily capable of taking on missions of her own. She was somewhat headstrong and impulsive, but she always seemed to get her way, and her Uncle's pride in her grew daily.

Job had been contacted by an old aristocratic friend who had, in the many years since they had last met, become an Inquisitor in the Ordo Xenos. Inquisitor Deterrium was interested in a xenos artifact, the Flaerblach which belonged to the Quixaar - a relatively young, but technologically advanced race which resided just outside of Imperial space. Job had established diplomatic relations with the Quixaar in the past, and Deterrium wished to use Job's goodwill to acquire the Quixaar Flaerblach whose power as a weapon had been a subject of intense study for Deterrium. Job agreed to assist Deterrium, on the condition that Deterrium took the ever-ambitious Victoria under his wing. Deterrium, at first, protested, claiming that Inquisition had no place for dead-weight, just on the whim of one Inquisitor's friend, but after Job told Deterrium of Victoria' numerous accomplishments as a Rogue Trader, Deterrium agreed to take Victoria on as a low-ranking servant.

Victoria spent many years in service to Deterrium, repeatedly showing herself to be courageous, strong and quick-witted. At the age of 46, she rose to the rank of accolyte to Inquisitor Deterrium, and at the age of 78, she finally became a fully fledged Inquisitrix of the Ordo Xenos.

Since striking out on her own, she has been free to persue her primary interest; the hunting and capture of tyranids, which she brings in for examination and experimentation. Her years of hunting have perfected her skills at the non-lethal takedown and the ability to capture large targets.

Inquisitrix Weaver has since recruited a Magos Biologis, who assists her in her study of the tyranids and facilitates her use of the organic tyranid weaponary with which she is particularly obsessed. She has been reported to wield a large tyranid bioweapon, capable of terrible damage, which her Magos Biologis has reportedly found some way of keeping alive outside of its host. She also has great pride in the fact that she possesses a tyranid bonesword, which she is forced to wield with two hands due to its size.

Finally, and most dangerously, it has been recently reported that Inquisitrix Weaver has captured a Hormagaunt and that her Magos Biologis has found a way of effectively turning it into an inhuman servitor-arco-flagellant monstrosity, capable of unholy acts of terror and destruction

Philosophy

Victoria is interested in all Xenos species, but in particular had an ongoing obsession with the Tyranids. She grew to believe that the Xenos are creatures designed to pose a threat to mankind. A threat to which the Imperium of Man would have to rise, and she believed that in rising to the challenge of th Xenos, Man would better itself, and become strong and united. She saw her own life as the perfect example of this; her family and home were destroyed by the Tyranid Hive, and yet she had gone from the spoilt child of an aristocratic family to a powerful member of the Inquisition. Her particular interest in the Tyranids stems from the belief that they are the most powerful predators imaginable, and thus pose the greatest threat to mankind. If Man could only learn to strengthen its resolve against this terrible enemy, it would find a hidden strength so great, that it would easily overcome all other obstacles.

In fact, Inquisitrix Weaver has been said to, on numerous occasions, have planted Hormagaunt eggs in densely populated areas, in order to separate the strong from the weak, and ensure the residents of the Imperium do not become complacent. This obsession with presenting Man with deadly challenges to strengthen it, places her broadly within the Istvaanian philosophy.

-The backstory here is brief for readability. Yes, i could detail all of her exploits, both with her uncle and with Deterrium, but at the end of the day, I'm just giving the bare bones of her characters so you can get perspective for her stats and equipment, as well as a 'feel' for her as a character.

WS: 65
BS:  78
S:    52
T:    55
I:     76
WP: 79
Sg:  74
Nv:  66
Ld:   84

Skills: Rocksteady Aim, Lightning Reflexes, Leader, Big Game Hunter, Subdue

Equipment: Conversion field on all locations, AV3 on all locations except head, Bonesword*, Strangleweb**, Bio-scanner Auspex, commlink, Inquisitorial Rosette.

*Counts as forcesword, but instead of wielder making a WP test, a d6 is rolled. On a 1-3, nothing happens, but on a 4-6, the tyranid biotechnology fires up and an extra d10 damage is done.

**Type: Basic, Range (25), Mode: flame, Acc: -, Dam X, Shots 10, Rld X, Wt 50

-Acts as a Webber, but hits D3 random locations (if same location is rolled twice, re-roll), chance of entangling is only reduced to 50% if a force field is present, and damage done is 2d6 rather than d6.

I know the rules for the strangleweb are nasty, but she has no actual directly damaging ranged weaponary, and really, i felt that a strangleweb should be nastier than a webber.

All comments and criticism welcomed and appreciated.

Really interesting background, goes very well with the awesome model you've converted for her. I like the idea of her being an istvaanian who's obsessed with xeno-darwinism of a sort. For a fairly old-ish woman (78, although I supposed that rejuvenat treatments could keep her young and healthy) her stats seem a bit high, especially in initiative, willpower, and sanguinacity. I would think that, having faced Tyranids on many occasions, her Nerve would be much higher and her Leadership (as she's obviously a radical) would be slightly lower.

I think her high leadership and leader ability seem uncharacteristic, as you don't really mention any followers for her aside from a hormagaunt servitor, which is awesome btw).

What is the rule for Big Game Hunter? I love the sound of it but don't remember that rule from any of the articles.

And the Strangleweb is an awesome idea! One of my fave Tyranid weapons, and the idea of a (slightly) deranged inquisitor using one to her own ends is pretty great. :3

I really like the idea for the character. Her stats seem very reasonable to me but there are two skills which appear as slightly outof place, leader and lighning reflexes. The leader skill because she lacks followers and the lightning reflexes skill because to me she doesn't seem that fast, I prefer to reserve that skill for characters who need a bit more than just a high initiative to represent their speed.

Sorry for the slight threadromancy here, but i never saw that Victoria had gotten responses, and considering I'll probably be using her in a game this weekend, now's as good a time as any to respond.

I agree with the superfluousness of Leader. To be honest, I can't remember my reason for giving it to her, and that is as good an indicator as any that it isn't a necessary part of her character!

As for Lightning Reflexes, because she is a petite, low strength character, I imagine she gets by in combat situations by being quick witted and fast. Bearing in mind that initiative incorporates both speed of reflexes and how 'fast on your feet' you are in a mental capacity, I feel that her high I is represented in the portion of her backstory which talks about her time as a Rogue Trader. She was constantly being put on the spot, having to think on the run and I generally imagine her as being a character who is impulsive, brash and quick to action (supporting her character as someone obsessed with conflict and Darwinian survival).

As for her age, I think for someone with access to Inquisitor-level rejuve equipment, 78 would be comparatively spritely and I gave her that age because that's actually a relatively young age for becoming a fully-fledged inquisitor!

The rules for Big Game Hunter can be found on the  Carthax Wiki  (http://carthax.wikispaces.com/Special+Abilities) (-Against anything considerably larger than herself, or anything the GM deems would give the character a considerable trophy if the character can bring it down, the character gains Blademaster, Deadeye Shot and Force of Will against that target) and that ability represents the fact that she spends much, if not most, of her time hunting down Tyranids and other large xenos for capture and experimentation.

Thanks for the input and any further comments/criticism welcomed and appreciated.
