Title: Questions on the rules, and corrections to said rules
Post by: GothicThunder on January 12, 2012, 01:22:11 AM
Hey, clavers. Needed a question answered, so here I am.
Without access to a printer, and with parents who refuse to spend so much money on what they already know half of which will be redundant and quickly scrawled over, I am going to be copying the Inquisitor rules into a college-ruled spiral. I figured you guys would have dealt with any 'iffy' rules as a house rule, and I would appreciate if you could give me some links, or a straight-up explanation.
Plus, custom armory entries would be nice.

That sounds like a lot of effort. Personally, I'd suggest scouring eBay.

There's a lot of people who bought Inquisitor but never really took it up (high supply) and a free digital copy floating about (low demand), so I've seen decent second-hand copies go very cheap.

(Unfortunately, that same thing doesn't apply to any other Inquisitor publication.)

As far as updated rules, the LRB is mostly up to scratch. There is however general consensus on removing the rulebook's version of Lightning Reflexes (too easily exploited by using the free Pause to work out how many actions you're going to get), and replacing it with these two:

Quote1) Lightning Reflexes
The character has astoundingly quick reflexes and can react to circumstances with blinding speed.
The character may, at any point once per round, attempt to take a "Reaction". This is always a single action which must be a 'reflex', reacting to the actions of another character or to an event - it may not simply be to run an extra 6 yards, make another attack in combat, or fire an extra shot.

Examples might include jumping aside as you see a gunman rear up from behind some crates, lunging instinctively with your sword as the enemy charges in at you, or diving to catch a valuable object that has just been dropped. As ever, the GM is the final arbitrator.

The player declares their  reaction and rolls a D6. If the result is equal to or less than the character's Speed, the Action is achieved (a roll of 1 always fails). Once the reaction has been resolved the round continues as normal and the character whose turn was interrupted may continue his turn.

2) Lightning Wits
The character thinks on his feet with outstanding speed, able to assess a combat situation and come up with the best course of action in moments. If a character with Lightning Wits needs to Change his Actions as described on page 26 of the Rulebook, then he automatically passes the Initiative test to re-declare his actions.

Additionally, he may ignore his first compulsory Pause for Breath action per turn. (For example, when re-declaring his actions, or if he is in a close combat that ends while he still has actions left.) This does not apply to non-compulsory Pause for Breath actions declared by the player.

QuotePlus, custom armory entries would be nice.
There are a heck of a lot of custom entries.

There's all the old Specialist Games/Fanatic material (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=34.0), Dark Magenta (http://www.darkmagenta.co.uk/) has faction sourcebooks and a mess of articles, and I'm writing the Revised Inquisitor Armoury (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=33.0) - current v0.5.1 release is 24 pages of just expanded firearms rules.

The next version will about double that with the extra weapons, more ammo types, the Xenos stuff, master-crafting rules, special damage effects and expanded fluff.

In short, how good's your writing hand?

Marco, your lighning reflexes replacement rules seem to fit better with my idea of the skill. Are they up on Carthax? And if not, would you mind me putting it on there?

I don't know whether they're on Carthax, but neither of those are my rule by any means. Both have been part of the IGT pack for the last few years, and I'm not sure who's originally responsible.

I slightly rewrote the wording for the Autumn Conclave pack, but that was just to streamline the descriptions, the effects are unchanged.

Right, I'll put them up if they're not already.

It's also worth having a poke around the Carthax wiki (http://carthax.wikispaces.com/), specifically the article about using the Ready Reckoner and other game balancing tips (http://carthax.wikispaces.com/Ready+Reckoner) and the list of Special Abilities (http://carthax.wikispaces.com/Special+Abilities) the Conclave has adopted as extra skill ideas to use on your characters.
