Title: Gav Does inq28mm
Post by: greenstuff_gav on April 17, 2012, 10:40:11 PM
what's hat? another bandwagon?!
i've done some Inq28mm (http://buildyourimagination.co.uk/minis/gallery/sculpts/28mm_covenant.jpg) before, but with the talk of a mixed event, thought i'd put together a crew to mix in with my 54mm Mechanicus stuff :)

so, i've started with the servitors from the Space Marine Techmarine box;

i spotted one with cables inplace of an arm who reminded me of someone...
can you guess who?

It's Magos Rowne (http://buildyourimagination.co.uk/minis/gallery/inq/mechanicus_annika.jpg)!
plasticard box, Hasslefree head and GS detailing :)

he's just about ready for undercoat .. i was going to pull the box apart and make it nice and square but just started a new job so have other things on my mind  ::)
will be undercoating him tomorrow and starting work on the first servitor :D

Mini Rowne!

Quotebut with the talk of a mixed event
Don't be too overoptimistic about it at the moment. I want to see it happen, but it's not off the drawing board just yet. It needs a lot of buy-in.

Very, very interesting, I am curious to see what else you can make, Rowne looks very good so far.

even if it doesn't it'd be nice to have warbands for both scales :D
if i can help, gi'us a poke :)

anywho, mini-rowne is undercoating so there's not alot to see on that front :(

however, another familiar character appears...
guess who!

The main issue is getting enough players at both scales who won't start arguments (that would not be good). I expect the INQvitational needs to happen and kick off INQ28 events first.

Quoteguess who!
Is it that git I had to run away from to avoid a plasma cannon to the face?

Awesome to see someone with your skills taking up the INQ28 baton, Gav. I'm expecting big (well, small...) things!

so, i've started painting Rowne and fixed the clear plastiglass screen :D
(http://buildyourimagination.com/minis/inq28mm/06.jpg)
just gotta clean up the edges with GS and paint before final layer of highlighting all round :)

certainly is! :D

Rowne looks really good, the face in the box is very haunting.

I wonder who else we will see.

well, i've done more work to 5t-V3 or Steve :)

and he has a friend!
a varient of my standard Mining Servitors; a buzzsaw for cutting things apart (with reinforcing arm to aid in application of pressure!) and a claw for lifting cut things aside. the cast was terrible so i replaced a pipe with guitar wire :)

and here's where we stand at the moment!

i plan on adding an actual person to the crew, i found one of the old Female Cadians (http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/5/4/31211_sm-Cadians,%20Imperial%20Guard.jpg) from Phoenix Miniatures so i'm sure some form of Guard Lady will appear and maybe another Mechanicus (as i've got a huge pile of Guitar wire these days!) :)

The servitors are great. The plasma cannon is really well built and has a bit of a classic feel. Where is the buzzsaw from?

aye, the plasmablaster was reminisce of the old school plasma cannon on the Imperator titan :D
the buzsaw is from the Ork Nobs box set :)

Nice work sofar.

Out of curiosity how do you handle Magos Rowne in-game?  Does he count as having 2 heads, do you count them as separate characters or is it just one character using a normal hit location table?
Title: Re: Gav Does inq28mm
Post by: greenstuff_gav on May 02, 2012, 10:11:29 PM
thanks :)
welcome to the 'clave! be sure to post an introduction to yourself;no doubt someone will be along wit the Big Yellow Welcome :D

as to rules, it's simply a switch of damage locations; i use the Head Damage Table for the Left Arm and apply arm damage to hits to the head :D
rules can be found Here (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1471.msg19261#msg19261) with servitors and the like :)

Beautiful work Gav:)

I have to say I think the frontal trim of the box might look better mettalic as looks a bit homogenous with the rest of the box. But thats nit picking!

The downscaling is fantastic to see in general. How much quicker or not would you say you found making these up?

i think for some, like Rowne himself, the conversions are alot quicker than with 54mm; you can get away with alot more corner cutting & the smaller surfaces mean less work overall :)
saying that tho, there's more careful choice of components; i think it's harder to find specific characterful stuff ...

i've repainted Rownes box-rim and it does look better :)

also, there's more work to the next tech priest ... not alot of WIP shots as while i was working on the armature the missus said "hey, that looks like a willy.." and it was all i could see
still well WIP, but even with my thickest guitar string the marine servo-hands were huge so having to sculpt one :P
also going to add tools and gubbins to the end of each string and bulk out the hood some :)

also, digging around in bits boxes (yay for working for a wargames shop (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/AA-Wargames/15mm-Normandy-Terrain-/_i.html?_fsub=3157445013&_sid=804227703&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322)!) i've got some more members of the crew :D
(http://buildyourimagination.com/minis/inq28mm/12.jpg)
don't know if i'm going to magnetise the skulls to the two diff characters bases (to swap between), mount all three Skulls on one base or make small bases for 'em individually yet...

I now also see the tech priest a bit differently...

But it does look good, a bit creepy and menacing, but that fits with the Mechanicus I think. It only looks a bit thinner than most 28mm models.

so, it's been a while but i've still been busy; the Adept (now named Dragos) is done and is undercoating :)
wasn't too keen on the buzzsaw but it'll do :)

the Plasmacannon Servitor has also had a lick of paint and is close enough to done. don't know if i'm gonna do tattoos on the skin areas :)

i also painted the old school metal servitor :)

and another of the finecast servitors; i did a small hackjob to get him a couple of sets of claws; these servitors are designed more for labour; plenty of heavy lifting gear :)

what prompted the mass of painting? i'm writing an introductory scenario for some of the regulars at Triple Helix (http://www.triplehelixwargames.co.uk)
part of the scenario will feature charging units and so i knocked up some quick markers :)
a 40mm Base, two tubes, a side panel from a Relthoza Cruiser (http://spartangames.co.uk/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=43_56&product_id=150), a Rackham Round Base and a 20mm WHFB base :)

so, i've gotten my scenario written, characters created and painted (except Dragos!) and 2 of the 3 / 4 players arranged :D
once we've played it, i'll be writing it up into a nice DM article same method as Data Transfer (http://www.darkmagenta.co.uk/) :)

Wow, Adept Dragos is really great! He's looking so sinister... Good job!  :)

Agree with KrautScientist, very cool and sinister looking! I assume not being cast? Sadtime :(

A simple and brilliant idea for the Tech-adept!

so, with the Conclave approaching i began thinking about crews to take and thought i'd like to take my Exodite Sniper, Khisanith (http://buildyourimagination.co.uk/minis/gallery/inq/archive/eldar.jpg) (on the right).
I'd need a reason to get her there and was thinking which Inquisitor would employ a Xenos... when i remembered Helena Jericho (http://buildyourimagination.co.uk/minis/gallery/inq/archive/jerichos.jpg) ... but i'd need a 28mm version as i plan on having both scales to fill out numbers :)

so, out came the greenstuff and a lazy sunday (where i don't know what project to work on!) and i'm at this point so far :)
3/4 hours work, paperclip armature and a Hasslefree armature head :)
gonna pick up a 2nd ed plastic shuriken pistol tomorrow and can continue work (arms, chain and hair next) .. but it's mostly all wet gs at the mo...

cheers!

thanks :)

slight update; hair has to be done in two separate stages to avoid squishing :P

the braids are sculpted as a single long one, which i'll cut to fit :)
Title: Re: Gav Does inq28mm
Post by: greenstuff_gav on July 28, 2012, 09:52:30 PM
well, there's a delay with Jena's braids; been trying to sculpt 'em thin enough to not look redonkulous and failing, am on attempt 4 :P

so, Rowne's crew has had reinforcements, Transmechanic Neida Fareese.

one of the limited run Lost Clan / Phoenix Miniatures Female Cadians, she's had a few mechanical augments to aid her as Rowne's public face.

Neida Fareese
-Transmechanic

While nothing about Fareese made her stand out on the Forge World of Transack III, amongst normal humans she was known for a gift of communication and a pleasing facial symmetry and an aesthetically pleasing physique.

It is these qualities that convinced Magos Rowne to request her transfer into his service; his reduced physical presence and harsh unforgiving manners often causing conflict.
Fareese now serves as communications and transmissions expert, sending and recieving communique.
As of late, now she has proven herself to Rowne, she handles alot more; meeting and greeting visitors to his facility and acting as his spokesperson when he is unavailable.

While other members of the mechanicus see her as an archtypeal bimbo or a shining example of eye-candy she is well liked and sets about her duties with an almost infectious cheer.

WS BS   S    T  I  Wp Sg Nv Ld
66 52 55(75) 65 55 75 66 68 72

A Way With Words: Fareese has the Persuasive ability and may reroll attempts at understanding new / unusual languages or missives.

Persuasive – A Persuasive character may make persuade tests using his full Leadership.

I really like Neida.  Wish I'd gotten some of those bits.
