Title: Inquisitor Day in York - 7 Nov 09
Post by: precinctomega on September 11, 2009, 02:15:42 PM
York Garrison's next Ten4Ten day has been booked for Sat 7 Nov 09.

This event is going to be held in aid of Help For Heroes (http://"http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/index.html"), Remebrance Sunday being the next day and all.  The club's actually running two (or possibly three) 40k Apocalypse games as a mighty conclusion to the campaign we're currently running.

But I've booked three 4'x4' tables to playtest INQ2.  Anyone pre-registering for the event will receive a draft copy of the rules and character sections and draft character sheets for the new edition.  The games' outcomes may well have an effect on the Apocalypse battles, unlocking strategems and other advantages for the opposing sides.

As usual, Ten4Ten is ten hours of wargaming for £10 (hence the name).  Registration documents will be available shortly at http://yorkgarrison.co.uk and PayPal payments should be made to madddok@yorkgarrison.co.uk (please mark all registration payments "Inquisitor" if you want a copy of the INQ2 rules).

The details are still being worked out, but a catered lunch may be available for a small additional fee (as the local hostelries were a bit sub-par last time!).

+1 for attendance, more than likely.

In the usual way, I'll leave it late to sort everything out and rock up hungover.

Because that's all traditional.

Well now.  As this may be my only chance to play some Inquisitor between now and the Spring Conclave, I think I could be very tempted to travel down for this.  What would be the kick-off time?  I may need to negotiate the Friday off to travel down.

For some reason, I'm getting train fares of £100+ with three changes, so I doubt I'll be there...  ;)

Try 387 miles for size!

Fortunately my parents live about halfway between here and York.  Still leaves about a 4 hour drive to get from the Borders to York though.  Hence why I may need Friday off work.

The lengths I will go to to push toy soldiers around a table...

What time would it start, and should we bring a couple of our favourite models? I might even be able to make this!

9am to 7pm.  Yes, bring your own models.  I'll send your character sheets for INQ2 in advance.

Hey all,

Ben here (warboss - york garrison) Brief update. We're working on the registration for this event. We'll be at Games Day this sunday (and we'll be playing Inquisitor too so I expect to see you all there!!!) so obviously thats taking all our time right now.

We're going to have to make pre registration mandatory, so we can plan everything from caterers and the number of tables. We'll send out full info a week before the event, registration should hopefully open next week when me and robey have a chance to finish it. our website http:///www.yorkgarrison.co.uk (//http:///www.yorkgarrison.co.uk) has info going up as we do, check out the events section.

I'd reccomend the trainline http://www.thetrainline.com/buytickets/? (http://www.thetrainline.com/buytickets/?) if you're looking for tickets. You can normally find cheap ones with a months notice.

Hope to see lots of you soon. Both at games day and in november.

Hey all,

I managed to get some unexpected free time. I've managed to finish the registration documents for York Garrisons Ten 4 Ten.

As such registration is now open. Pre-registration is a must, please note there's a part of the form to fill in if you plan on playing inquisitor rather than 40k, so make sure that you fill this in if you're coming to play it!

Many Thanks

Ben

How many Inquisitor tables do you plan to run?  Is there anyone other than Robey with sufficient knowledge to run games of Inq2.0?

There will be three 4'x4' tables for INQ games.  Each can take three players and one GM.  You'll all get INQ2 rules in advance, so I expect you to be moderately well-read.  I plan to hang around all three tables to clarify and make notes on suggestions, observations, criticisms and conflictions.

Wait, what? I have to sign up before hand! Dammit...

Is it easy to do? Forms and posting and whatnot is a pain.

PayPal is acceptable, as are electronic versions of the registration forms.

We're making pre-registration compulsory to allow for accurate budgeting.  Please note that the £10 doesn't include the price of lunch.

Just a minor bump! i know payday will probably be in the next day or so for most people, so for those who were delaying till then your time has come!

Remember the central event is 40k, so if any conclavers fancied playing that they'd be welcome to as well.

Registration can be either entirely electronic (e-mail the form, pay by paypal) entirely old fashioned (post form and cheque to us) or a combination (send us the form by e-mail and the cheque by post!)

Hopefully this makes it easy for everyone!
We know pre registration is a change from previous events, but with 2 events running on the same day we need to make sure we have enough space for people turning up, and that we can accommodate everyone who wants to come!

Any questions drop me an e-mail - warboss@yorkgarrison.co.uk

Many Thanks

Ben

I've done a feasibility study, and I'm sadly going to have to pull out of attending the day.  There's just too much travelling to do at ludicrous times of the day.  I'm sure though that I'll not make any excuses for the Spring Conclave, as far away as that seems right now!

Is this still happening?  Ben did say that my money had arrived okay, but I haven't had any official  confirmation or a copy of the Inq2.0 rules (I know I've got an old version, but it'd be better to have the same version everyone else is using).

Assuming it is still going ahead, who's planning to go play Inquisitor?  Also, if I bring some money, will I be able to buy a ticket for the IGT?

Been away for Half Term and forgot to take my laptop.  Ten4Ten is certainly still on.  Copies of the draft rules will be emailed out to registered players this week.

Is there a different character sheet for INQ2?  I couldn't see one in the material you sent through and some things (like weapon profiles) are slightly different.  I can improvise something, but I just thought I'd ask...

Now I need to find time to convert over a few character profiles.

Good point.  I do have a draft version, but I'm still working on it.  I'll send it out and you guys can much about with it to your hearts' content.

How is everyone else finding the process of recreating their characters for INQ2?  I've just spent a couple of hours working at it and all I have to show for my efforts is a set of incomplete character sheets covered in crossings out.  Obviously part of the problem is that I made certain assumptions about INQ2 rules being the same as the original versions, but even so I'd say it's somewhat more complex than creating characters for INQ1.

For example, I can't just turn to the power weapons section and copy down the profile for a power sword, I have to choose a sword, then apply the effects of the 'Power' upgrade - which means going back and changing the profile I'd just written down for a sword.  Next time I'm doing it in pencil!

Hopefully I'll have chance to have another go at it on Friday night, but if not I'll be doing it when I arrive in York on Saturday morning.

I'm afraid it looks like I'm not going to have chance to actually read the game rules...

A couple of quick questions about the rules to help me with filling in my character sheets;

- Is there still a Dodge skill?  It is mentioned in the rules for psychic track and in one of the sample characters, but is not in the list of skills.
- The core rules say 'weapons may also be customized by players with types and upgrades ... A weapon with no such customizing is known as "mundane"'.  But then in the Armoury it says that 'a weapon with no type is automatically mundane.  A weapon may only ever have one type ... but may have as many upgrades as you wish'.  So, is a mundane sword that has been given the Duelling upgrade considered 'mundane' or not?  If not, what type should it be given in the weapon profile on the character sheet?

I know this one! (Evandon had the same issue).  Dodge is, I believe, represented by the lightning reflexes ability, which enables you to react to being shot at by diving into cover.

The second paragraph has me entirely confused though.  I'll have another look in the cold light of day.

In answer to the second one, yes a mundane sword with the duelling upgrade would still be mundane. As I understand it mundane is the default 'type' covering anything not otherwise classified, so unless specified as another type, a weapon is mundane.

That's how I understood it too, but then I was confused by the bit that said a weapon that hadn't been customised is mundane which implies that one that has been customised is no longer mundane.

This is the sort of thing I'll be making notes on tomorrow.  Remember everything is draft.

Feel free to make assumptions based on common sense and we'll deconflict any misapprehensions as we go along.

In brief: a "mundane" weapon in my head is one that is exactly as it appears in the weapon tables.  However, I realize that that could be open to wider interpretation and I'll look at it.  But we can discuss it a bit tomorrow.

Well... that was a lot of fun!

Sorry I had to cut away early, but, seriously, that was the most fun playing INQ I think I've had for some years.  Some good learning points to take back to the rules development were made, but some things really made the game work well.

I was pleased with the Awareness rules and with the regular use of both Persuasion and Intimidation to try to sway the allegiances of opposing characters.  But I think the new psychic rules really made their mark, with some impressive little psychic duels going on - as well as the amazingly timely use of a Psychic Shriek by Adlan.

That particular power may (may) need toning down a little, I admit.  But it still worked beautifully.

It was quite enjoyable.

I'm writing up a set of reports, including notes on rules issues (and, of course, pictures), that should appear at some point.  Alot of the rules flowed a bit better once you were used to them.

Its a shame you left early, since you missed Evandon turning into an ace gun slinger and Ylla nicking a book from a priest.

Those interested can see the photos online at;

although sadly I don't have Smogg vs. Khaled.
