Title: Inquisitor Urbana Golgamesh
Post by: Dolnikan on May 22, 2012, 04:46:23 PM
This thread will contain the other warband we will be using in our small campaign. Please comment, I am sure that there is much to improve.

Inquisitor Urbana Golgamesh
Urbana Golgamesh was born into poverty. While still a child her psychic talents were discovered and she was taken to the blackships. After her training she was sent to station Kappa 581 for further training. She spent many years there until her services were requested by the Imperium in the form of inquisitor Khar.

He had recently captured a part of the leadership of the Brotherhood of Granash but even the most intense torture failed to break them and reveal the secret haven of the cult. He used her to penetrate their minds, tearing everything he wanted to know from them. Unfortunately this reduced the heretics to drooling idiots but at long last he knew the dead world where the pirate fleet operated from, spreading their heresies throughout the sector. This information was brought to the navy and the Brotherhood of Granash was utterly destroyed by a taskforce from Battlefleet Doristor.

Having shown her worth inquisitor Khar kept Golgamesh as a permanent member of his staff.  She proved herself to be a capable investigator but somehow never learned the arts of combat. She did however learn everything she could find.

Her operations have always been based on covert work, she rarely fights preferring others to do that for her. For that purpose she has always had a few people around her who could lead in combat situations, one of them was Oblomow who now is an interrogator himself.

Golgamesh was eventually promoted to the rank of full inquisitor. Since then she has delved ever deeper into the nature of the enemies of mankind, some would say too far. On Hasht III she contacted a viral disease called Avalix. It has so far proven to be incurable. The disease has wasted her body, she has become incapable of physically demanding actions and has lost her hair and all colour, giving her an unpleasant appearance. She has however been kept alive so far, determined to discover the weapons mankind needs to survive against the darkness.

Urbana has always been someone who delves deep to find the weaknesses of the enemies of the Imperium. She remains an utterly devoted servant of the Emperor but she has come to believe that extreme circumstances can require extreme solutions. She would never go as low as to use the tools of the enemy but she beliefs that knowledge is power and will study even the most forbidden lore.  Her disease has only made her more devoted to achieving her goals and assembling a library which she hopes will be used by her successors.

When inquisitor Khar discovered her amassing of forbidden tomes he drew his conclusions and sent her former servant, Oblomow, to capture her to stand trial before a tribunal of inquisitors.

I really like the idea of the disease

Would i be right in assuming that its a sub-plot that keeps her distracted from her duties occasionally???

It is indeed something to distract her from her duties, and of course another plot hook, she really wants a cure...

By the way, does anyone have a suggestion for a name, I really can't think of any and it has been that way for a while

Vesserinix, Bilothialism, Vasarectus, Thyroxidant, Maledictus, Avalix, Chiasmata, Endoaverase....

Few ideas off the top of me head :)

A new viral string? Now named after her.

I like the idea of the virus, it puts her on borrowed time, which could add something to her personality. I look forward to seeing a model.

However, I don't get much of a sense of her beliefs and motivations. Presumably contracting the virus will have effected her,  but how so? Is she afraid to die, desperate for a cure, too devoted to the Emperor to care? And what are her beliefs? Is he puritan, radical or what?

I really like the name avalix, I think I will use that one.

I hadn't thought about the beliefs at all, I will add them in as soon as I have those written up.

The models are all in 28mm scale, before I can post anything I will first need to learn how to use a camera, I am a complete disaster with those things, even on vacation I screw up the photographs.

I like the additions to her background. Given her circumstances, it seems appropriate that should be driven and inclined to take extreme measures.

This is the second character of this warband. Callixta is the right hand of the inquisitor and does most of the field work.

Interrogator Callixta Golgamesh
Callixta was born on Helena's Gate, into the lowest classes of the shrine world where saint Aurelia started her crusade. Her duty was to scale the immense statues to maintain and clean them. It was dangerous work, many youths fell while doing their duty which was done without any kind of protection.

The then newly promoted inquisitor Dolnikan travelled to Helena's Gate to investigate rumours about deformed scavengers preying on lone pilgrims. She soon found that these attacks took place around the giant statues and she required spies. She recruited a group of youths to act as her agents. One of them was Callixta. While the area was abandoned at night these young spies worked as the eyes and ears of the inquisitor. One of them saw one of the murderers and followed it to where it took its prey. Apparently the murderers had made a lair inside the head of one of the statues.

Urbana Golgamesh could not reach the site without specialized equipment and could not simply destroy the statue which was considered to be holy. Instead she took apart the youth who had impressed her most, Callixta, and gave her instructions. Callixta led a small group of the bravest climbers onto the statue. They had received some training and weapons from the inquisitor and were tasked with chasing the monsters from the statue where they could be dealt with.

Once there they found much more than they had expected. Instead of a band of thugs they found the greatest horror they had ever encountered. A genestealer cult. A single one of the monsters had somehow made it to the planet and created some followers. They had found a hiding place inside the statue, the genestealer's claws allowing it to climb into it quickly. The pilgrims were captured for two purposes, most served as food but some unlucky souls were instead infected and forced to mate in order to create hybrids.

The climbers were hopelessly underequipped for the task at hand. It was a complete slaughter but somehow they managed to overcome the cultist and hybrids. But then the true horror attacked. The genestealer itself awakened and lashed out with its claws and tore the attackers apart. Only Callixta managed to survive its attack. All she could do was desperately try to evade the razor-sharp claws while reporting what she saw to the inquisitor. Urbana knew that the situation was desperate and took the risk to intervene directly. She projected her powers into the statue and touched the mind of the beast. The contact hurt but for a few moments she distracted it. These moments were all that Callixta needed and she managed to slay the monster.

In the aftermath of these events the area was thoroughly searched and Callixta was taken by the inquisitor as an acolyte. She proved to be a quick learner and within a few years she was promoted to the rank of interrogator, taking the last name of her mistress as she lacked one herself. She has become the right hand of Urbana and is the only person who is fully aware of her health issues. While the inquisitor delves ever deeper into her studies it is Callixta who speaks for the inquisitor and runs many of her operations.

These final characters to be used by Golgamesh are a group of gangers, all of them members of the Royal Stings. They are used for their local knowledge and their combat skills.

The Royal Stings
The Royal Stings are a recent gang from Hyrule's Skull. They have never yet had much power but are rising under their founder. They are notorious for the gaudy clothing they wear, mostly based on the designs of Gaius Claudius Nero Vipsanius, the younger brother of the famous rogue trader. Recently the larger gangs of the city have started making a move against them and are losing territory to their rivals. Callixta contracted them to provide security for her, masquerading as an agent of a mercantile house. The influx of money has allowed the gang to become better armed and to expand their influence while the inquisitorial agents are well-protected by the most vicious warriors from the gang.

Jessa
Jessa was born in the slums of Hyrule's Skull, a city on Hyalinde. As a child she joined one of the roving gangs but when Ghador founded the Royal Stings she joined his new group. This betrayal has led to repeated fights between her and her former friends but she has never doubted that decision. In the Royal Stings she rose to be one of the most capable leaders and is often seen as the right hand of Ghador. She was entrusted with the security of their patron and she stops at nothing to keep Golgamesh secure.

Basor
Basor joined the Royal Stings as a boy. In the many street fights he has proven himself to be a capable fighter who is utterly deadly with the blade. He never had a family and sees the Stings as his relatives. He would willingly die for them and would probably have done so already if not for his luck and skill in battle. He lacks the intelligence or social skills to ever rise above his current level but he is widely respected in the streets.

Other Equipment: 2 reloads

Ghrine
Ghrine joined the Stings together with Jessa. She had the potential to be a shining star but she has one simple weakness which has kept her back. As a youth she started to experiment with mixtures of drugs, these made her too unreliable to ever rise, causing her to use ever more of the drugs to alleviate her grief at being ignored. Slowly the drugs have driven her completely insane and she is willing to take insane risks because she fails to see any risk.

Skills:
Armour: 3 on left leg, right arm and chest, 2 on groin and right leg
Weapons: sword, fuel bomb
Other Equipment: 20-shot craze injector

Craze: This drug hampers pain transmission, but it also influences mental processes and fear. It adds 3D10 toughness until it no longer is injected. For the duration of the effect the character also gains 3D10 nerve but loses 3D10 initiative. After the dose wears out take a toughness test, if it is failed the character permanently loses D10 Sg and I.

Fuel Bomb
This weapon is nothing more than a jerrycan filled with combustible fluids. When it is thrown the fuel spreads over the area and it bursts into a sea of fire.
The maximum distance a fuel bomb can be thrown is equal to the character's strength divided by 4. Every hit has a chance of setting the location that is hit on fire as a flamethrower. The fire is not immediately extinguished, instead it keeps burning, slowly shrinking. At the start of every turn  of the character who used the fuel bomb, there is a 50% chance the both the area and the blast being reduced by one. After this roll damage is applied again.
