After a nice lil trip to Warhammer World, i went and bought Lucretia and Slick. I've enough pieces to be able to make both original models, and both conversions, yet i was looking at doing something a little different with each.
Ideally, I'd like to put Malicant's head on Slick's body, and then put the Arbites Bare Head, with hair, on Malicant's body. I was wondering if anyone else had already tried this, and if it works or not?
Also, i'm looking at some different colours to do Malicant's robes with. I'm thinking Goblin Green with a badab black wash, then highlight's with scorpion green. But i'd like to get a very washed out look for his robes. Any suggestions?
I'd imagine the judge head might be a touch small, but not so small you couldn't get away with it. Damian's head would probably work better, though. (Note that I say this without ever having seen Damian's head in person; I'm just inferring this based on the fact that it's intended to fit Slick's body.)
Goblin Green highlighted with Scorpion Green will give you the very opposite of washed out, wash or no. I'd suggest Dark Angels Green highlighted with increasing amounts of Rotting Flesh, if you're going to go that route. Possibly with a wash of Devlan Mud thrown in there somewhere. Devlan Mud never hurts. ;D
I seem to recall someone did Malicant in green ages back, with Slick's head. (The character was an astropath, I believe.) Looked quite good.
good point on the green. I'm looking at my Mantis Warriors, and i can't see it looking like a good washed out colour. I'm debating using the exact paint scheme from them on my Lucretia model. Is there any way i can get Iyaden Darksun (the new one) to look like plastic for her armour plating?
I want to try and shy away from the classic brown of a habit, so i'll be trying the Dark Angels. Devlan Mud is a brilliant colour to wash with.
Damien's head has some really weird neck thing going on, it works on the Slick model, but it's pretty much like a lop-sided V, I'll stick with the two Lucretia's for now (one will be a man-catcher for Interrogation by my Inquisitor. The other will be part of a Bounty Hunter family. I just need to make them look completely different using a paint scheme), and get them painted until i can grab a Malicant (End of the month, i'll get myself a present) and compare the heads.

Afraid I can't help with that one mate; I've not touched any of the new line. I'm considering moving to another brand when my current store runs dry - I've heard good things about Vallejo...

Shouldn't be too much of a problem. You'll just need to cut it down a bit, is all. For the record, I managed to track down the astropath I was referring to:

Always did rather like him.
Thought I'd butt in with a couple of pictures:

There's Malicant's head on Slick's body. A little bit of filling will be needed to create a neck.

That's Toothpick Murke's head on Malicant's torso. It is slightly bigger than the bald judge head. Also, the green was done with Dark Angels' and a black wash. Comes out quite dark. For a washed out look, I did this for my most recent model:

With a white undercoat, apply a black wash. Then drybrush with white. The black wash will provide shading in the recesses and the white drybrush will provide highlights on the raised edges. Then thin down your green of choice with water (about 50/50) and start layering. I used Gnarloc Green and applied three coats I think. If things are flat at that point, you can add more shading to the recesses and highlight the extreme edges. For the former I added some black ink to my thinned Gnarloc Green, and mixed Rotten Flesh and Gnarloc Green for the highlights.
For plastic looking armour I suggest gloss varnish. You can get acrylic based gloss varnish that can go on with a brush and be washed out your brush with water. I use docrafts "Artiste" that I picked up from a craft shop for a couple of quid.
Hope this helps
