Good Evening Everyone. :)
I'm in a bit of a pickle with the Warband I'm making. :( It's an all Mutant warband. My original concept was a freedom fighter mutant warband. It's consists of 5 mutants. Their mutations vary but aren't a burden anymore than being a hideous mutant in a "perfect" human world. So no rotting flesh, Atrophied limbs and/or Club hands. I have the Characters on paper and one is almost ready to prime( I'll have pics of him Monday.).
Only Problem is how does this warband translate into "the battle For the Emperor's soul"?
Other than just a warband that kinda breaks the mold. What can I do to provide more purpose than just another exercise for an Inquisitor led warband. I want them to be more than another GM warband. They won't have the resources to move about freely as an Inquisitor but I feel they can move about easier/unnoticed. Who would look twice at a mutant slave standing in an alley way.
So how can I spin Insurrection, rebel rousing, equal rights for mutants into a story to save the Emperor's soul? Or is this type of thing inevitably meant to destroy. If it's to be so. Then would be better they were Chaos mutants working for a corrupt Inquisitor or a Chaos marine from the Alpha legion or Deathguard?
Sorry if I'm not being clear. I need a little help determining a purpose. I'm not against playing radical characters or playing characters working for an evil character as long as they discover the evil characters plans and work to unravel them before it's too late.
Thanks for any advice.
Josh
Simple. One's a mad prophet as well as an insurrectionist. That way, they'd have some sort of goal, even if everyone else thinks otherwise.
Side note: an extremely ancient iteration of one of my own Inquisitors was basically a pro-mutant-rights activist that discovered that yes, some mutants do still venerate the Emperor. So one could easily imagine your insurrectionist guys having some sort of covert "backing" from someone powerful.
They've discovered some of the more esoteric Thorian beliefs, and think that the Resurrection of the Emperor is instead a Mutant Messiah, and are trying to find him/her before the vicious oppressors of the "pure" can kill him/her.
Dapper i'm going too steal that one for a different warband
you could have the mutants outlawed, and they are trying too prove their innocence and loyalty too the emperor, seen as though some mutants are tolerated on many outer worlds, an over zealous planetary governor could want his planet purged of the unfaithful (mutants)
Sounds like the sort of people an Istvanian inquisitor would happily make use of to stir up trouble in what they felt was an overly settled and complacent world, even giving them the resources for a full scale insurrection. Also, since the inquisitor in question would be keen to disappear afterwards without his involvement being known, perhaps they're searching for their missing benefactor, either to exact revenge for abandoning them or to 'rescue' him from imagined captors so he can begin the crusade anew.
Great Ideas Guys!
I love them all and I'm trying to find a way to incorporate them all.
How about...
This group is hand selected and trained to operate out of a cell for the purpose of causing an up rising using whatever tactics that the
job requires. They work for months or even years to achieve this. The rebellion goes off without a hitch and the planetary governor grants
equal rights to mutants. They won...right? Three weeks later the Inquisition shows up and scours the planet of all mutant life. Millions die!
Slim (the cell leader and psychic) escape a week earlier in search of the missing benefactor. Only to find him freshly killed by another order of the Inquisition. One Slim's unique mutations allow him the ability to ingest the brains of the recently deceased and experience their memories as his own. This is where he discovers the teaching/truth of the Emperor's return would naturally be a mutant because mutants were the next step in human evolution.
Now the race is on to find this Emperor BEFORE the puritans can eliminate him.
Along the way they assist others that are down trodden and in need of help.
How does the overall jist of this sound?
Thanks,
Josh
It's terribly late but I wanted to post at least one of the warband members. I would like to hear comments and concerns from the community.
As a whole if you as a GM or fellow player would supervise/play with/against this warband and it's characters?
The Janis twins were born on the moon Shaile prime. In the city of Leon. The midwife told their parents to kill the twins as it would be a far better mercy than let them live. Mutations are common enough that citizens with a mutation aren't subject to termination. They are however segregated into their own communities and work at jobs no one wants are are just too dangerous. Given to a surrogate mutant family. The twins grew fast and strong.
One dreary evening an arbites squad kicked down their shanty door arresting them on a bogus charge. However petty the crime the punishment for mutants was death! The morning of their execution a strange man appeared requiring their expertise. For what reasons, he did not say. But in return they would be granted a pardon.
The twins meet 11 more mutants and another non-mutant that day. These others were to become their new family. They were taught and trained together to operate without assistance for months even a year if need be. The twins fought on 3 different continents across Alpha Tusconi releasing thousands of mutants from slave pins. Before helping to incite the planets biggest rebellion ever witnessed.

Code Name: Gemini-
Mutations: Two heads, two hearts and third lung (advanced heart & lungs) and an extra arm.
Equipment: Flak armor on chest & abdomen, 2pts of armor on arms & legs, comm-link, 2 Standard Stubber pistols w/Reflex sights, Hair triggers, Improved Barrels & 4 reloads, knife and 2 Krak grenades.
Special Abilities: Ambidextrous, *"I gotcha back, bro", Fast Draw, Gunfighter and Hipshooter.

*"I gotcha back, bro"- The twins have 2 fields of vision (Each in the opposite direction of the other head.) and True Grit. However, roll a D6 at the start of any turn, on a roll of a 1, the twins begin bickering and the character is at -1 speed that turn.
Now the twins along with their companions search for the Emperor Reborn before the murdering purist Inquisitors can.
Thanks,
Josh
*updated based on the finished model* *The twins story is here. http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=2150.0*
Well, a couple of suggestions for the mutant power things.
1) I'd give him/them the following:
Roll a D6 at the start of any turn, on a roll of a
1, the two minds have a disagreement and the character
is at -1 Speed that turn.
This would be because the brothers were bickering (the negatives associated with a Binary Cortex in the Explorator article)
2) I'd also give him/them 2 arcs of vision, one facing backward and one facing forward, that would be a nice little advantage as you would have to be right next to him to avoid being shot.
The only other thing to mention is that he has flak on his arms, but no real armour atm, but you could just model that on...?
Just my 2 cents

Thanks for your suggestions Eziah! It seems you and I think alike on several points. I too in the begining thought about the bianary cortex. But others pointed out to me having a twin strapped to your back doesn't make you smarter. I happen to agree so I dismissed the whole idea. But I should have kept the part you mentioned. A bit of unpredictability and at times even comic value. :)
I also scrubbed the 2 fields of vision for advanced senses. But I really shoulda kept it. Unless you think both could still apply?
Oh, I modeled armor on all three forearms. It must not be very clear picture. But you do have a good point. It doesn't look very flak armorish. I should just call it as I see it and not try to simplfy it. It could just be 3pts of armor on legs and arms.
Many thanks,
Josh
I think that if someone has two heads, they wouldn't neccessarily hear/see/smell better than someone else. The reason that I suggested the fields of vision was to help balance out the negative of the two heads having opposing thoughts. However, you could change up the rule so that on a 1-3, he has to move toward the nearest enemy and charge if possible(as one of the twins is very hot-headed) and then on a 4-6 he acts normally(as the more logical one takes control).
Just my thoughts though, others may have different opinions
Hello Fellow Clavers!
It's been a few days since I posted the Janis Twins. I now have the rest of the warband ready to post. Except I haven't started working on the models yet. I know you're all excited to see more but I need to know if anything is off, overpowered or ridiculous before I go to print with the models. ;)
By the way I do use Dark Magenta rules too. So if you see an ability you don't recognize and I haven't given rules for it. It's somewhere in their books. :)
First up is...Devan.
Devan, nicknamed Slim for his skeleton with skin stretched over it appearance, was born on Shaile IV in the city of Tatarus. Very few mutants come into this world born of mutant parents. So it was as much a surprise to the census agents as to his parents who were already sterilized. It's public practice that mutants are sterilized on Shaile. However there were plenty more surprises in store for his parents. The River Rats (a local human hive gang) had been terrorizing the mutants for months. When one evening they threw bricks and a home made smoke grenade into a Mutant church of the God-Emperor. The malfunctioning smoke grenade exploded causing the ceiling and wall to collapse in. After the dust had settled. A neat circle of debris lay around him and his parents. Not even a scratch!
Inquisitor Hark happened to be planet side when he felt the surge in the warp. Hark watch the teenage Devan for years as he developed his plans. Then came the day when Hark needed Devan to complete his work. Hark began educating him in secret on how to control his powers. Two years later Devan was now the leading member of a splinter cell.

*Knowledge adsorption (as space marine Omophagea)(works on aliens too but he may not understand what he is seeing)
*Uranium penetrator rounds: Halve armor value on any location hit by this round. Also radiation is an insidious killer and at the end of each turn for the rest of the scenario the character must make a Toughness test or add D3 points to his injury total.

Titus a prized pit fighter came with the inquisitor from Baal Prime. A man or mutant could carve out a little wealth as a pit fighter, so long as he lived long enough to enjoy it. Thanks to a strange chance of fate Titus lost his championship title and prized tentacle all in one fight. Titus's owner was hard up for money after that fight. The Inquisitor seizing the moment bought his contract for only half it's worth. The inquisitor bargained with Titus that if he fought for him he would earn his freedom. Titus's tentacle arm was later replaced with an electro-flail.
Code name: Titan- Left Handed
Mutations: Bony Crest
Equipment: Comm-link, Carapace armor on chest, arms and abdomen, 5 Spur injectors, frag grenade, short assegai(as axe), Implanted Electro-flail(RH), Mid Magnum revolver W/Laser sight and 2 Manstopper quick reloads.
Furious assault, Force of Will and True Grit.

Third...
Petra was born on the planet Shaile. Shaile is the largest and most dense planet in the Shaile system. The terraforming process didn't take as well as the other planets and moons. With a higher than Terra gravity and high radiation due to a weak ozone. Shaile is mostly mined for its minerals rather than settled. Petra was all too familiar with the mining colonies across its surface. She was too weak to work the mines but her supervisor saw to it her other talents were put to use. Inquisitor Hark found her working at the heart of a mining complex's reactor without even so much as a rad suit. This mutant's abilities were very special and he had to collect her.
Code name: Scorch- Right Handed
Mutations: Radiation (Ionizing and Non-Ionizing) grants her the Regeneration ability. Her skin naturally appears burned.
Equipment: Gas mask w/comm-link, Leather armor on all locations w/3pts of ablative plating on chest, arms and legs, 5 dose De-tox injectors, 2 Hazard grenades, 2 chain blades and a Flamer w/tank.
Dodge, Acrobatic, and Wyrd-Regeneration (only when damage causing levels of radiation are present.)

Fourth...
Tregor was born on the planet Shaile. When his parents tried to hide his mutations from the authorities it landed them a life sentence in prison. But not before 5 year old Tregor injured 3 arbites trying to subdue him. Tregor worked in the same mining complex as Petra. The inquisitor found him shackled to his work station. They couldn't let him roam free because he kept letting the canaries loose in the mine.
Tregor was not the inquisitor's first or even second choice in muscle for the splinter cell but after Petra pleaded to take him along he reluctantly accepted.
Tregor is powerfully built but with low intelligence and slow witted. Given a command Tregor will follow it to the letter. Tregor loves his sledge hammer but he loves the roar of his heavy stubber more! He often times becomes depressed for days when there's no one left to shoot.
Code name: Dumdum- Right handed
Mutations: Bony crests and abnormal strength & head size.
Equipment: Gas mask w/ built-in comm-link, 6pts plate armor on chest and arms, belt-fed heavy stubber w/2 reloads and sledge hammer.
Hurl Opponent, Fearsome, *Hardy and Covering Fire.

*Hardy: Two light damage condition tables.

The team acquired hound during the mutant uprising on Alpha Tusconi. A local Navigator family's mansion was sacked during the uprising (as well as thousand's of other homes). The mutants were jealous that the navigator's mutations were considered a gift while theirs would slave them. In a dungeon beneath the mansion the team found this poor creature. He was half-starved, his sanity nearly in tatters and could barely remember his own name. Alden had been there for a long time. He had the sight but thanks to his appearance he was hid away from sight. Slim took pity on him. So Alden joined the group as he had nowhere else to go. It has been 2 months since they found him and already he's showing improvement. The Team calls him "Hound" thanks to his ability to track down anything with a warp signature. He can even do it through the Immaterial.
Code name: Hound- Left Handed
Mutations: The Third Eye, Scales and Bony Crest.
Equipment: Goggles, Rebreather, Force Rod, Body wrap/Robes all locations.
:'(The Lidless Stare, "I have stared in to the Abyss", Sanctuary, Warp Gaze and Wyrd Psi-track.
WS42 BS40 S45 T55 I57 Wp76 Sg56 Nv38 Ld47 (p.s. I made his Nv really low to represent how easily startled he becomes like an animal.
Is this the right way to represent this?)
At the moment the stories are incomplete but I'll put it all together in the end. Right now I'm chomping at the bit to start but I
would like hear what everyone thinks. It's much easier to make changes to the models before I start cutting. ;D Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Josh
Modified some stats. Changes to Titan's handiness and armor thanks to model used.
About Slim: I think that the uranium rounds are a bit potent, radiation can of course do terrible damage, but rounds made outof uranium would not have such a terrible effect, otherwise handling them would be impossible, let alone keeping them. Such powerful radiation can't be stopped by thin layers so I would just remove the radiation bit.
About Titan: I like this guy, but maybe a tiny bit more background. I would also lower his very high willpower, there is no reason why he should have it.
About Scorch: Scorch should have some background, otherwise she can't be judged in any way.
About Dumdum: I would really lower his ws and bs, to me he seems like someone without much in the way of skill, more someone who is about brute strength. At the moment both are a bit on the high side. When shooting I would imagine someone like him just squeezing the trigger and pumping out a hail of bullets, not someone with any kind of decent aim.
About Hound: A great character idea I must say.
Slim: I'll remove it and use the adamantium tip.
Titan: Full stories are coming I promise. I gave him the higher Wp because he would face all sorts of monstrosities in the ring.
I didn't want him to go running away screaming at the first Fearsome enemy he would face. I could just give him Force of Will because
he's such a BA!
Scorch: More to come... :)
Dumdum: QuoteI would really lower his ws and bs, to me he seems like someone without much in the way of skill, more someone who is about brute strength. At the moment both are a bit on the high side. Yes, This is as I envisioned him. "...Barrel glowing red, empty casing all over the floor and barely audible over the roar of his heavy stubber the faint insane laughter of a child."
I'll lower his Ws & Bs but I'm not sure yet on this S & T? I was going to use the old warhammer giant with Tezla's head.
Hound: QuoteA great character idea I must say.
Thank you very much! :)
Josh
P.S. Dolnikan- Do you have any suggestions about the Janis twins?
Dumdum's strength and toughness seem about ok for such a massive creature, especially with the hardy ability.
About the twins: The "I got your back bro" ability seems good, the bickering might not be very logical but it is an essential part of any two-headed character.
Also, do you have a special damage table for them? The locations would be a bit different I think.

You're absolutely right! But I'm not sure how to approach the subject yet. I could just split the arms and heads up. Or do a % depending on the direction of the shot. Or is that too detailed? I've played with both. :)
Thanks,
josh
I would go with a single table, different tables for different directions can get complicated fast, and would also be hard to establish because the twins would probably be moving around all the time.
How about this....
98-00 twiddle-dum's head ;)
95-97 twiddle-dee's head ;)
81-94 chest
66-80 abdomen
56-65 Forward left arm
43-55 Forward right arm
36-42 Rear right arm
31-35 groin
16-30 Left leg
01-15 Right leg
I made the rear extremities a little harder to hit 'cause their hidden a bit.
QuoteI made the rear extremities a little harder to hit 'cause their hidden a bit.
Not, I add, if anyone shoots from behind!
I'd just do it like the updated version of the hit chart - combine all heads/arms/legs into collective heads/arms/legs locations, then have whichever head/arm/leg is closest to the attacker hit, randomise if unknown. This saves on having to change any of the normal percentages.
(It's what I do with Jax Lynn these days, change the Legs location to a Legs/Tail location)
But my bigger concern is how two heads work in game. If Tweedledum takes an acute/crippled head wound, does it put Tweedledee out? What if Dee takes a heavy head wound and thus a speed penalty? Stunning for head hits? Who has what control of which limbs? If system shock is failed, does it take only the location's "owner"?
The hit location chart needs less thought than the damage tables, really.
I was looking at that chart this morning. This is how I've done in the past. But then I started looking at the alien generator... I wasn't sure if the community had any objectives.
I didn't mention it until asked because I thought of them as a single model. But as you say what would happen? They are Symbiotic in nature( well, I can't see any other way). But to be technical( it doesn't have to be of course) Twiddle-dee has control of the forward facing extremities. If anything happens and twiddle-dee is unconscious, twiddle-dum can still shot/throw grenades with his one arm. But isn't this just an unfair advantage? I don't really want to give them anymore abilities. I try to keep my characters( even important ones) low key. I've already given them above average toughness and a little above average strength( I just added a little more for the extra arm).
Anymore advice would most definitely be appreciated.
Thanks,
Josh

This is Inquisitor. While balance and fairness should not be forgotten, the primary aim is an entertaining and characterful game. After all, a Stormtrooper should have the advantage over a scribe.
Given that giving a character True Grit means they can keep getting up, over and over, a character that can keep fighting after certain "out of action results" isn't exactly game breaking. Particularly if it's Dee that goes down (probably more likely, as he's the one that'll be facing forwards most of the time), because Dum has then got his work cut out to do any more than lie there and try to protect his unconscious brother, given his only method of moving is dragging one and a half people with a single arm.

Wow, you can tell I've been playing a GM too long! :o I need more Inquisitor games! Damn, it's too bad I live across the pond from most of you. :(

It's been awhile but I'm still working on the mutant war band. It's going slow but I just finished the model for titan and I'm working on Scorch and DumDum at the same time. :P I've made revisions to the Janis Twins and Titan's stats now based off their complete models. Speaking of revisions... I've add some of Marco's revisioned weapons into their arsenals. I will update the others as I finish the models. I will also add a short story involving each member as I post their pics.
