Title: Eldar ranger
Post by: Myriad on September 18, 2012, 12:31:18 PM
HI all, kind of dissappeared off the face of the 'clave I guess.  Still, a few days before the Kaede Mack event I decide to bring my Eldar, and notice he's a bit, well, yellow.

So, I present the hurriedly repainted Jedd, eldar ranger, all serious looking (more anyhow, I seem to struggle with grimdark a bit).

And a bit of proof I have been working on stuff, just not stuff I know what to do with yet.  A bit stuck on suggestions to 40K up the final two 54mm figures a bit, so any suggestions would be welcome.

The ranger looks really good with change to blue and purple - are the colours from the new GW paints?  To me the coat's hem is crying out for a wash of black for the sooty/ash ground he's standing on.  But then eldar cloth may be self-cleaning, as I've never seen a grubby pointy-head.

What's the base model for the big quadruped?  I recognise (I think) Thanquol's rat-ogre and an old daemon prince's sword arm, but that body is new to me.  Any chance of some pics at other angles please?

The last two models are the Eolith Dracula and the 54mm wood elf (http://www.rolljordan.com/sol3/www.solegends.com/citle/citle2000/staff/staffXmas2005WoodElf.html), yes?  At that angle it's rather difficult to see how much you've already done to them.
I'm stumped on Drac tbh but for the elf, I'd turn the tree bit into a broken block of stone and cover the face with a blank faceplate to turn it into a harlequin.  You could stick with the scantily clad look or paint on a bodysuit.
Alternatively, round off the ears and add some strategic odds of armour to turn her into a human gladiator.  Or leave the ears, add pointy armour instead and hey presto, a wych.

The cloak is fenris (ian?) grey, which is new, the purple is the old hormagaunt purple.  The rest are older colours, I haven't bought many of the new colours yet.

The quadruped is based off a dark elf war hydra, and does actually have an inquisitor part in the mix.  A couple more pics, as requested;

Well, I found an idea for the dracula model that doesn't cover up too much of the original sculpt.  Really need some daylight to photograph in though.

Very nice, I found turning the head is also a very effective way of giving the sculpt more movement.

Thanks.  I quite like the static pose for the character concept though.  Here's a better pic with a splash of paint.

Dracula looks very good like that, a proper Imperial nobleman.

He looks good.
Is that a third eye on his forehead?
It's interesting how just adding the servo skull has totally changed the whole aesthetic of the model.
I really like the model now that it is painted, I couldn't really tell with the unpainted version.

Thanks for the comments

I did indeed add a third eye, although it doesn't photograph very well  :).  I felt making him a navigator would both fit with the nobleman theme of the model, and provide a pretext for actually making the character a vampire of some kind.  I nearly gave him an eyepatch, but decided to stow that concept for a rainy day!

What did you use for the servo skull?  I have been wanting to make some from scratch but can't find any loose skulls of the right size to start them out with...  :-\

The servo skull?  I think it came with the inquisitor kroot, although I could be wrong.  I'm afraid it'd been in my bits box for some time  :).

Possible someone might have one to trade.

Not really looking for a "stock" servo skull as much as a 54mm skull to base a custom servo skull on.  Really good effect achieved with both the third eye and the servo skull.

It is just a 54mm skull in the kroot set http://www.collecting-citadel-miniatures.com/wiki/images/8/82/Inquisitor_54mm_Kroot_Mercenary_Conversion.jpg, I got one with mine.

The Daemon huntress model also comes with a servo skull. You might want to check the Arcadian Smugglers Ring see if anyone has got one spare.

These (http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/yy3/MarcoSkoll/Inquisitor%20Models/WIP%20Models/IMG_4947.jpg) are all pressmoulded from the Spartan Games "Heroes of Myth and Legend" 40mm skeletons, but I think that's an OOP range now (Not sure - I got mine from Gav). In any case, they can be found on eBay.

As they've got slightly overscale heads, they work well alongside ~54mm scale.
