Title: Transporting 54mm Mini's safely
Post by: PedroTheEmprah on November 19, 2012, 10:26:31 AM
Not sure were this should go..

How do you guys move your 54mm's around safely?

I always used GW carry cases and lately Battlefoam. A search for 54mm battlefoam doesnt give me anything useful.

Anyone found anything ideal?

Pedro

If you're looking specifically for Battle foam, I'd look at their Iso trays (2.5" or 3" BF-BF-ISOML) or their pluck foam trays (2" BF-BF-PF)

However, as I personally think BattleFoam bags is overpriced, I'd just recommend looking for pluck-foam flight/rugged cases. This one, for example, is the "Medium Rugged case" from Maplin, after I'd worked the tray to my requirements:

They tend to go at £25 for the smaller size ("small flight case" or "rugged case (medium)", which confusingly, are the same size), and £35 for the larger cases ("Flight case with foam" or "rugged case (large) - these are more easily usable as double layer, however you want to handle that), but when offers roll around, it knocks about £10 off those prices.

I know at least a couple of others on the forum who use them - decent stuff.

I use KR Multicases - if you get their D format pick and pluck trays then you can fit either 15 model in a half width tray if each model has its own compartment, or 20 if you make 10 compartments and put 2 in each with a layer of foam between them. Their cardboard case holds 4 half width D trays of the required depth, which is great for storage, then I use a smaller bag for carrying just the models I want for gaming. I also have a couple more of their cardboard cases that I use to store my Blood Bowl and Malifaux models and since the trays are similar sizes I can just switch them around to carry whatever I need on a particular day.

I'm using a gw tray modified inside the 40k 5th edition bolster case.   Normally I use figures in comfort case.

If battlefoam I'd recommend the PACK C4 with 1x2" pluck foam, it's a pretty cool combo of miniature storage and rulebook space in a laptop-sized bag. I've been planning to get one myself for a while.
Wayland Games also have a 30% sale on on all battlefoam stuff right now.

They do? Awesome, I need some new foam for this second-hand case I've got.

It has come to my attention that one of these offers is running at the moment.

The "Flight case with foam" (http://www.maplin.co.uk/flight-case-with-foam-36796) is down to £25 (from £35) until the end of the year.
