Title: Rosa Sinclair - miniature
Post by: Shard0808 on April 25, 2014, 04:00:25 PM
While not a millions miles away from being finished, she still needs a lot of work, however I won't be in a position to finish it off for a good 4 weeks so I thought I'd post what's been done so far.
For those who haven't read the background, in a nutshell Rosa is a biomancy Psyker of questionable sanity, blinded by the initial manifestation of her abilities and who utilises Corpus Conversion, wounding herself to increase her powers beyond the normal limit. Basically, a blood mage in 40k.

http://s1000.photobucket.com/user/Shard0808/library/Mobile%20Uploads?sort=3&page=1

The blood/gore effect is done using UHU all purpose glue and acrylic red + black, just cheap stuff from a craft shop, while the pool of PVA at the base will dry clear and with a coat of red and more PVA will eventually become a pool of blood. She's still missing her force staff, her hair needs redoing and I'm not happy with certain details, but overall I think it's worth posting even if it's not complete.
I'm also expecting a few comments on the choice of model! Please feel free to share if you think it's too risqué, it won't change anything but feel free ;)

PS could someone please tell me if there is a way to post pictures directly onto a post instead of a link when using a mobile? Thanks

That blood effect is incredible!

Her pose is more sexual than most, but I don't think she's more "adult" in that sense than the Devout sisters in their bondage gear - was it Kaled who painted a Daemonhost based on them where the synskin was actually skin, and the gaps where gashes in the flesh?

The combination of a mutilated/mutilating biomancer and that very... healthy... base model is an interesting one though. Not a bad one, just unexpected.

where's the original mini from?

i echo Dapper; fantastic work and the gore is great!

with pictures, you need the address of the image e.g.:
http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af130/Shard0808/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0040_zpsiuokj69s.jpg

then put [ img ] http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af130/Shard0808/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0040_zpsiuokj69s.jpg [ /img ]
(i added spaces between the brackets) should display like this:

Cheers guys, I appreciate the comments. I was thinking even as I was painting her that I wanted to make her abit more 'unhealthy' looking, originally the skin tone was going to be a lot paler but it ended up more flesh toned on the model than it looked on the palette! In the end I just cracked on, but I hope to add more blood to make her look less clean.
Gav the model is the 54mm pinup preacher from Kingdom Death, she's a tad taller than I would have liked but sunk Into the base you can't really tell a difference.

I'll be brutally honest - while I appreciate the female form, I have an intense hatred for Kingdom Death's attitude to it; I can't compliment your choice of miniature.

However, you have done well with the painting and gore effect.

Haha I don't know whether to thank you or not for that Marco, brutal indeed ;) though I was expecting some controversy. I quite like the kingdom death minis, they lack the grittiness of 40k and replace it with a dreamy quality, not to be overused (a whole warband probably wouldn't work) but for a Psyker I think it looks good.

Well, you did offer a free licence to criticise*. I'll absolve you from any need to thank me for it though.

*And, at least while what I said may not have been particularly tactful, it was at least a lot shorter than how long I would normally go on for on this subject; There's literally entire pages worth of my ranting on other miniature forums.

link? while not keen on the background (personally) i thought the miniature herself was one of the more acceptable of Kingdom Deaths...

They're not rants specifically about Kingdom Death, or indeed this model, but more generally about the depiction of women in miniature ranges*.

KD gets an occasional mention, but more often I'm complaining about ranges I otherwise actually like (Infinity is one of the common ones); For the most part, I don't ever interact with KD models, so they're not that important to me.

But yes, I'd have this down as one of the more acceptable of KDs. I still don't like it, but I'd be able to keep my trap shut during a game with it - but hey, that's me in general. I'll complain a lot outside of a game, but in game I'm generally pretty accepting of things.

*Sometimes I end the rants with this picture, 'cos it's funny:

I wasn't aware of the furore surrounding Kingdom Deaths kickstarter launch, which is what I assume Marco is referring to:

http://bitchmagazine.org/post/save-vs-sexism-kickstarting-sexism

I don't agree with the author of the piece, and I'm not alone from the looks of the comments that follow, but this isn't the place for that discussion. I wholeheartedly respect Marco's opinion.
Personally I quite like how disturbing some of KDs minis are, very Slaanesh. I didn't have Slaanesh in mind when I bought the model originally, but I wanted something that wasn't just a standard wizard holding aloft a staff shouting some typical incantation, if that makes sense. As Psykers get their power from the Warp, I'm sure that Slaanesh's influence could easily be worked into Rosa's character. I wouldn't be the first to make a backstory fit the model, instead of the model fit the backstory I'm sure! Rosa was always supposed to be a young, beautiful woman driven to the brink of insanity by her powers that force her to mutilate herself as well as irreversibly scar her appearance, in quite a disturbing fashion. After all, no one wants forever bleeding eye sockets, but the Warp giveth, and the Warp taketh away

A very creepy and atmospheric model. I really like the designs on the loincloth, they look maddeningly intricate but very effective. I also like the eyes, they really are very sinister especially with the calm, serene expression on her face; which as an aside I must say is a very good feminine face, nice to see a female miniature that doesn't have a man's head on it!

A great model and paint job all round!  ;D
