After a lengthy break from 54mm, I am back madly modelling for 54mm Inquisitor games.
I haven't had a chance to write background for these guys yet, but I am working on it.
First up, a bound Daemonhost - I posted some WIP pictures of him ages ago. He floats on a grav suspensor (space marine jumpack), his main torso is from an old keeper of secrets (I think), and head from an ogre maneater ninja. He is finished apart from the base. Super happy with how he turned out, this was a very in-depth conversion.

Rear view, showing his vestigial wings. By using guitar wire arranged around a strong brass rod core, I was able to 'float' him without a flight stand
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo%20-%2002015-26-01-08-26-09.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo%20-%2002015-26-01-08-26-09.jpg.html)
Next up is a fairly stock standard gunslinger. While she has appeared on this forum many times, I just couldn't bring myself to cut her up - the pose and sculpting is excellent. My only concession was to bend the arms slightly for a more natural pose, and give her some pouches and ammo built to represent reloads
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo%20-%2002015-26-01-08-26-58.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo%20-%2002015-26-01-08-26-58.jpg.html)
This next one was a more involved conversion. Barbaretta body, a Warmachine Jack head (not sure which one), Reaper arm. I am still slightly working out what she represents - any suggestions? The weaponry brings to mind an ex pit-fighter turned bounty hunter, but perhaps I can come up with something else.
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo%20-%2002015-27-01-08-27-21.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo%20-%2002015-27-01-08-27-21.jpg.html)
Small buckler and dagger arrangement brings to mind a pit fighter

And a really cool shotgun hanging from a belt
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo%20-%2002015-28-01-08-28-11.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo%20-%2002015-28-01-08-28-11.jpg.html)
This next guy is interesting - I believe maybe a Warzone model, he is too big for 28mm, and small for 54mm. I think he makes a great creepy mutant medicae, with his tools on his belt and mutated hand. The head sculpt is pretty poxy, I think I will give him a rebreather...
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-08%2018.51.34.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-08%2018.51.34.jpg.html)
A beastman mutant, Ogre Butcher given an increase in height with a GS belt. Not quite finished, he will need a knife on his belt, and a cool speargun on his back
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-08%2018.50.28.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-08%2018.50.28.jpg.html)
This conversion came together really naturally. An Inquisitrix with radical leanings (but not quite crossed over yet), she sports a wicked chain sword and a power fist. I have a matching other power fist, I think this will be given to another inquisitor and be central to the background....
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-08%2018.52.42.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-08%2018.52.42.jpg.html)

And a group shot so far for scale
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-08%2018.54.59.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-08%2018.54.59.jpg.html)
Paint schemes will be 'Blanchian' in nature, with lots of inks, sepia and splatters. The models may be in need of a few more greeblies on them, but equally I don't want to clutter them too much. My aim is to have a number of playable factions, in order to rope some old Necromunda players into some games.
Many more on the way, what do you think?
(note I have cross-posted this on Lead Adventure Forum too)
Cheers Aurelius
Nice to see a new warband under construction.
The daemonhost is pretty original. Are you thinking it was a purpose built host, or has it possessed a servitor or Magos?
The subtle conversions on the female ganger are nice. It is a great model and I can see why you wouldn't want to cover up the details. The bandoliers look great.
I've not seen a Warjack head on a model before, and it looks pretty good. Could there be an alien under the mask? Or is she a death cultist from the depths of an Imperial warship?
The warzone character is a really odd little fellow, isn't he? I think it would be good to embellish the poor sculpt with some more details. A rebreather isn't such a bad idea.
That's a proper old school, Adrian Smith illustrated Realms of Chaos style beastman mutant you've got there. Love it!
Lastly, the Reaper conversion has a lovely duality of finesse and brutality.
Looking forward to seeing more progress.
Ruaridh
Thanks Ruaridh
I wasn't quite sure what I was thinking with the Daemonhost, it was one of those builds that evolved organically. Now that you mention it, I think a servitor is an excellent idea - it could be seen as justification by an Inquisitor who is not so radical as to possess a live victim, but still wants a Daemonhost... remember how much Eisenhorn fretted over his use of one his own (albeit temporarily) warband? I was originally going to pair this guy with a very radical inquisitor, and a near-human looking Deamonhost with my Inquisitrix. Switching this around would make for a really nice contrast.
Warjack head is cool isn't it? The power fist is also from a Warjack model, bought cheap at a bring and buy. Definitely not an alien, but I think a death cultist is great. I am thinking a death cultist from within the Adeptus Arbites, made up of officers who have become disillusioned with the lax sentences being handed out to the political elite, and are taking matters into their own hands. Sort of a reverse Scarlet Pimpernell.
I have now added a rebreather to the warzone guy, and he looks much better. Part of the problem with the sculpt is the 'flatness' - it is very 2D, the addition of a rebreather and backpack corrects this somewhat.
Beastman has now been given his harpoon gun and spare spears, and has come out really well. I think he might fit well as a 'goodie', in spite of his appearance.
I have also almost completed my main nemesis model, and he is looking really brutal. Will post more photos when I can.
Cheers

Another Update!
And here is my next conversion. My radical inquisitor who has very clearly crossed the line, much like Quixos. He is clearly going to be a big bad in the campaign - power armour, daemon sword and power fist. Also a bolt pistol mag-locked to his armour. He is going to need less twisted minions to do his bidding without raising so much attention.
On to the conversion - sergeant stone's head takes on a new level of creepy, looks like Sam Neil in event horizon. Back storey will reflect this, experiments with the Mechanicus for faster warp travel.
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-20%2021.42.35.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-20%2021.42.35.jpg.html)
I need to add an Armour plate over the hydraulic part to bulk it up a bit. Looks a little weedy at the moment. My Inquisitrix has the matching power fist, a relic of the Horus Heresy.
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-20%2021.43.36.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2015-03-20%2021.43.36.jpg.html)
The pistol has a clip modelled on - it didn't suit him at the waist, here it is within reach.

More to come soon.

Greetings,
Another model completed, a hard as nails Ordo Malleus Inquisitor. Once again power Armour and fist and sword mean he really is only a 'boss' character.
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/20150322_181700.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150322_181700.jpg.html)
This is a Hitech Minis 54mm Exorcist model. He comes on an integral base, which has him stepping on some kind of servitor and book - nice enough, but not matching my other bases. It is also too tall, and the sides of the base are ROUGH. Like the sculptor sloppily schmudged some leftover green stuff on there at the last minute. Strange as the rest is so crisp. Anyway, after much careful cutting with a junior hacksaw, I removed him with only minor damage and made a new base.

i love the daemon-stone; always thought the daemonprince looked small but yours is intimidating!
how tall is the Hitech inquisitor compared to a regular mini?
Quote from: Aurelius on March 20, 2015, 11:39:39 AMSergeant stone's head takes on a new level of creepy
That
is getting a bit disturbing. He manages to look all the more dangerously deranged there.
So, the his and hers power fists - are you going to tell us what's the deal with them or is it a secret for now?

Tosh. Sorting out player characters like that is what Warhound Titans are for.
As far as your base, I'm sorry to say it, but there's something that means I can't help but see it as him stepping onto a hoverboard. :P
Thanks guys ;D

The daemon prince got about 10mm greenstuff at the front of the waist, tapering to nothing at the back, to tilt him more upright. He is pretty imposing now, but scales well with others. I originally planned to make a chaos space marine out of him, but the dimensions are more human.
Hitech guy is
massive. But his head scales well. The pose makes him look even bigger, but as I said the integral base (which is a bit taller than GW) doesn't help either. He now just looks like a big man in power armour. Still smaller than a Space Marine. Will get you a comparison shot at some point.
The two of them duking it out will be memorable.

Hahahaha yes I do see that too! I was trying to model the edge of a step or deck, and curved it to match the edge of the base.
Clearly he is going to need to be named Inquisitor McFly now ;) Or maybe a bit more subtle and make it Inquisitor Tannen.
Just read the short storey where Eisenhorn kills a dreadnought with a power sword, so bring it on haha
The power fists are an interesting one - they just fit both models so well. Working on a back story, but not quite finished yet... so secret for now!
Stones head always screamed chaos to me, and suits a Xanthite character well. Something about a metal skull plate and the sutures is creepy.
I got all my assembled minis primered now, so hopefully get to paint them soon, although equally I have a big Reaper order coming in with some more models so may try and get a few more henchmen sorted first.
Thanks again for the replies, it is good to see that things are being read and replied to on this great forum.

These are all gloriously unique. Lots of parts combos that I haven't seen before from a variety of sources, way to keep the hobby alive!
That said, I'm having a heck of a time telling what's going on with a number of these. This is partially a good thing, as your pieces have a pleasant amount of Blanchian randomness. A nice paint job should help show us what's really going on with a number of these folks. This is definitely a pot calling the kettle black moment, but if you commit to painting these up over the next couple months* I'll commit to doing the same with my WIPs. Do you accept my challenge?!
*For the purposes of this challenge, let's call it 5 models by June 1st. If you accept I'll urge others to join. We can even create a joint thread!
The Radical looks properly unhinged. Great choice of head! Nice to see the old school terminator daemonsword is still in circulation too. Must try and track one of those down one of these days...
The Hitech model does have a commanding air about him. I've had mixed feelings about their models since they came on the scene. Always thought they were just too chunky. I'd love to see this one with a typical Inquisitor figure to check the scaling.

Thanks Alyster :) We must keep the hobby alive, as it is so worthy of it. I think all the 'Specialist' games are. I agree - it is very hard to make out what is going on, particularly with the daemonhost for example. I'm not sure the filter really helps in that regard. Here are a couple of 'daylight' pictures which are a bit clearer, before I undercoated them.
Here you can see the mutant Medicae's new rebreather, which fixes the badly sculpted face. He also now has a six shooter, and a Rough Rider lance on his back (I think this will be some kind of one-shot flintlock pistol, on the end of a spear).
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/20150322_163218_1.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150322_163218_1.jpg.html)
And the Daemonhost, Radical and Beastman. Here you can see the additional armour plate to bulk out the power fist arm, and also the spare harpoons for the beastman's harpoon gun.

Alright, as far a painting challenge is concerned, I'm in! 5 models by June 1st sounds great, maybe you can start a new thread? It could be a 'Tale of four painters' thing. With as many people as we can get to join! Perhaps the MODs could be nice enough to do a sticky thread for it too?Quote from: Van Helser on March 24, 2015, 10:50:20 AM

Thanks Ruaridh, yes love the daemonsword. Word of warning, the terminator arms are stumpy, so I cut mine in half, and extending with greenstuff and an old plastic chaos warrior elbow pad to make it more Inquisitor scale. It is also a tad short, but makes for a cool 'short sword'.
The Hitech model is really cool, I did always dither on purchasing him, but in the end I caved as haven't really seen too many around. He is a chunky guy, but it works for power armour. Will get you a scale shot when I actually build an 'official' inquisitor model, as it is a bit hard to get an idea with my conversions.
Cheers, Aurelius
Very nice set of conversions. Demon-stone is indeed an inspired combination and the tusked helmet on Barbaretta looks great as well, really distorts the common silhouette.
Where's the Inquisitrix's chainsword from?

you create the thread and i'll sticky it; as to partaking i've only got my IGT entry and that's a surprise unless poeple wanna see the WIPs!
Painting Challenge? Could be fun, I've got four models waiting for some paint at the moment, this might just give me the incentive to finish them. I'll have to think about a fifth model though.
Those pictures are much, much clearer, thanks for posting! As for the challenge, that'll be posted shortly!

Thanks :) chainsword I got from a convention in Australia, I suspect it is from Eureka miniatures. They are perfect Inquisitor scale.
Painting challenge is a great idea, and would perhaps help generate some new content too. No clues Gav? ;)
Count me in for a painting challenge.

Greetings,
Looks like my first post got eaten in the warp, so here it is again!
My first 54mm scale Inquisitor mini is finished. Not the best photos, but let me introduce...

excellent stuff, he's come out really well
Brilliant. The samurai mask came out really well. My particular highlight is the tattoo on his arm. A great little bit of embellishment that makes the model come alive.
Ruaridh
Wowee, I'm always impressed with how a good paint job pulls a seemingly random assortment of model bits together into a cohesive whole. I'm very interested to see where the rest of this warband ends up.
Thanks all for your kind comments ;D
I do agree, a paintjob brings together disparate bits very well. But I think the knack is being able to spot whether things work or not without the paintjob!
I have been painting some more, but nothing too interesting to show yet. Felt the need to do some more converting (helped by a massive box arriving from Reaper), so started on this guy.
He is an ex-Elysian Drop Trooper, and now pulls security for Inquisitor Tannen. A no-nonsense military type, I wanted to keep the professional look that the Elysian's have and not go too grim-dark. Tannen himself will be a Puritan, and I imagine most of his warband will fit a similar mould.
The conversion is based on the Reaper Master Series US soldier, which despite some truly horrendous online paintjobs, is actually a really nicely sculpted model. His harness is very well detailed with lots of straps, packs, combat knives and the like.
Despite this, he needed some 40kification, so I have done some minor greenstuff work.
First photo shows visor in place before being cut back flat.

Here he is with the padded armour plates sculpted. Note I have gone with big bulky carapace shoulder plates to increase his prescence. These are just blutacked in place here so sit a little high.

And with his lasgun. It looks a bit big for him, but I will add a scope and call it a Long-Las
(http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g362/riverside_adama/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo%20-%2002015-10-10-01-10-32.jpg) (http://s1098.photobucket.com/user/riverside_adama/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo%20-%2002015-10-10-01-10-32.jpg.html)
He will be holding it from a tactical foregrip, so I imagine he can switch between a sniper and assaulter at a moment's notice. More soon.
Cheers,

p.s. What's that over there? The photo is so hard to make out (WIP of another character. Pretty sure you can see where this is going)

Big Foot! Though what we probably have here is a Jokaero in a Big Foot suit...
The Elysian looks great. That's a good base model to work with. I'm glad to see there's room for a more sci-fi looking model amongst the grim-dark ones.
Ruaridh
Big Foot brought up a chuckle, looking forward to seeing him orange! ;D
Looking forward to seeing your ex-elysian come along, have you thought about shortening the barrel on his lasgun? Sticking a scope on it would make it look like a long-las in isolation, but put him up against another model toting the standard lasgun model and it'd just look like a lasgun with a scope. Unless of course, that's what you're going for!
Keep us updated :)
Next model completed! Jade Tarth, ex-Adeptus Arbites officer, sent to the Pit-Fights for her part in a secret society who dispensed off-the-books vigilante justice to the Imperial nobility. Conversion using a Barbaretta model, with a warmachine cog head and arm from a Reaper master series model

Really nice job with the freehand, and I really like the contrast between the body suit and the armour. The checks on the leg have me looking at the Barbaretta model in a completely different light now. There's a world of much more elegant possibilities for that miniature than the paramilitary look I've stuck with before.
Ruaridh
Thanks Ruaridh for the compliments :) the barbaretta body is a really nice sculpt, and I think it is underrated. Probably because her usual face brings it down a lot. Check were blatantly ripped off that 28mm Eisenhorn diorama from years ago, they recall Carnivora for me for some reason. Next up is my Medicae I think, his scrubs and skin are done so good progress has been made.
I could have sworn I replied to this...
Great conversion mate and that paint job really brings it out. As Van Helser said those checks really add something to that model. Cool story too, we all like a bit of vigilante justice now and then.
Bit of a cross post from Lead Adventure. I've been busy on the painting front, here are four more models ready for the table.
Radical Inquisitor Lupus von Sydow

Think I might be getting closer to an actual game now! Hope you like them,
Cheers Aurelius
Well, that's some really nice stuff! Conversions and Paint jobs are very nice indeed. One question though, where are you getting the Power Claws from? Warmachine models?
Really nice to see progress on these models. The character you have injected into these models with the conversions and the painting is great.
Ruaridh
Your paint jobs always look so filthy (in a good way). Your Blanche-style palette/ability to select color is enviable. They just look really, really great.
Also, is there a fluff reason why Lupus and Lestrange have the same-style power fist? Or is it just because you had two of them from whatever the base model was? Either way, they both look great. Cheers! Looking forward to seeing more weirdness from you in the future.

one of the Warmachine Cryx Warjack models :)
Bah your talent with colour palettes disgusts me! Whenever I try and use more than maybe three main colours on a model it always ends up looking like it's been attacked by a bumper-pack of Crayola crayons.
I love all the excessive freehand on your models, there's barely a milimetre of flat surface anywhere that is untouched by style or artifice. Awesome stuff.
