Well, I had an idea for a one day campaign that I could run....
As for a date - I'd vote for earlier rather than later. Too close to the end of the year and it'll be on top of the IGT.
I think I could probably try and make this one, as I'm feeling like trying to drop back into the hobby (not that I was ever that in in the first place, seeing as I only usually played at the meet ups). I'd vote for sometime around October, I think, but I'm not sure.
My only thought is that October is just after GD in September, so some people's budgets may not stretch to another trip daaahhhn saaauff to Nottingham, if we were to hold it at WHW. Didn't Robey mention he was thinking about holding another event in York sometime late this year? Is that still likely to happen?
If not, I could go for a trip down to WHW in October / November.
-Ben
The GT is on the second Saturday in December and tickets will be on sale by the end of August.
There will be another York event before then, but it's unlikely to be solely focussed on INQ (I might run some INQ games on a side-table, though).
R.
I think that's what you said, Robey, that you'd plonk some tables aside for some Inquisitor games (and perhaps some INQ2 play testing as we didn't get around to any at 10-for-10). That would be awesome and fill a gap before the GT in December.

True. Therefore based on past experience, I suspect that with both October & November being close to other things, any event would likely be a rather small one. Still, I'm more than happy to drive over to WHW for a few games, even if it's just a handful of us - or if Robey is doing something in York, that would be good too.
If I have my dates right, the 2nd Saturday of December is the 12th, which would mean I can't make the IGT this year. Silly cousin choosing that day for his wedding!
So, I'd be very interested in some sort of Inquisitor event sometime over the next couple of months to make up for having to miss the IGT. York and WHW are both doable for me with a bit of notice to arrange flights and accommodation.
Ruaridh
i'd be up for WHM any saturday really.. but York is just that bit too far :'(
plus who actually goes to Games Day anyway? ;D
IIRC the York chaps are taking a spot for an Inq table, I think, at GD... That was the plan at 10 for 10 anyway!
Any small event, even at WHW, would be well received I think. There's enough of us already - 4! - to make a reasonable gathering. No doubt Tony would probably be up for it, and there's enough people who live close enough to WHW who could also attend.
-Ben
In that case Ben, pick a date and book a table - I don't yet have anything in my calendar for October / November, so any weekend is fine by me. :)
I've dropped an email to some event email addy as the GW site was down and I haven't a clue about the number to get through to an appropriate troll type person at WHW. I'll keep all informed.
The days it ISN'T likely to be are 17th October, 7th November, because of prior music style commitments.
Oh, and if it's not the 3rd of October that'd be great - brother's 21st that night!
I really have to get my arse in gear and get to one of these meets. I'd like to, but don't count on it.
I really have to get my arse in gear and finish Simeon Blackstar again so I can bring him to one of these meets. ;D
October/November sounds good to me.
back in exeter by then which isn't economically viable for me. I would be up for some games in tork or wherever over the next couple of months though as I am in sheffield atm and have a car. Machelor and I thought we might go to WHW at some point and people would be MORE than welcome to come along!
Adam
Well, if you & Machelor do go to WHW, let me know and I'll try to come along - I'm always up for a game.

aye :) due to the drive it'd haveto be an all-day-er .. but i'm game :)
Ben - did you ever hear back from WHW?
I remember looking at their events timetable at the start of the year, and they had things on most weekends but we don't take up much room so hopefully they'll be able to fit us in...
I did, but I totally forgot to call them and do some confirming
It'll be either the 3rd or the 24th of October
I'll definitely call tomorrow
Either date is fine by me. Let's see how many people plan to come along and then we can decide whether to make a plan for a mini-campaign or just to sort out games on the day.
Date confirmed - see the first page
I'm out - brother's 21st that weekend. Looks like I'm not going to get any Inquisitor action 'til the Spring Conclave now. Boo!
The 24th was all piled up with some event or other :(
Stupid core games.
I'll be there ;D
12 hour shift sunday tho ::)
now, Zombies or Mechanicus ;D
You can add me to the list too. :)
I'm pretty certain I'll be there. Can't think of anything that'll be happening then but I've got the feeling that I've forgotten something, but i'm not sure when in October I've forgotten it (if you see what I mean).
Good-o.
Come on, people, sign up! It'll be fun!
With Games Day and the GW AGM in September and the IGT in December? Not a chance.
R.
Aloha all.
Might be able to drop in.
Party to celebrate my wedding the day before - so might be required to perform husbandly duties or be so hungover that unable to do anything but breathe and feel ill.
But might be by to say hi.
Cheers,
m.
Congrats on the wedding mate! Great news... Long time no speak as well!
It'd be great to see you, have a chat and perhaps a sneaky beer to celebrate your wedding there too! The more the merrier.
-Ben
First weekend of uni, so I won't make any promises. Could be good fun though. does it cost anything, or are we just meeting up and having a laugh?
No cost other than showing up for this one. Not sure of the plan / structure. I think if we just have a bring and game and the GM-will-make-it-up-onnaspot for this one, ahead of the more structured GT, it'd be funky.
-Ben
I'll come. What times etc. would be useful, also any themes and other gaming details would be helpful in planing. See you later.
well, I'm not planning on running anything formal at all, so I'd imagine it's likely to just be a bring and play day. There'll be no overriding theme. My only suggestion would be to take it easy with the stats, I'm going to be moderating all my characters down a touch in terms of weapons and stats.
In terms of times - from whatever time the place opens until the end of the day, pretty much. It's always a good laugh.
I could do an Oct/Nov meet. the date would be work dependent
The meet is on the 3rd of October, a Saturday.

Yer - I don't know if im working that date. Also im in India most of Sept. Want to attend. Need to get some games under my belt . ;D
I initially held off saying whether I would be able to attend. But now with the A-level results out... I will be able to go!

My only suggestion would be to take it easy with the stats, I'm going to be moderating all my characters down a touch in terms of weapons and stats.
On this subject, I remember the first Conclave event I came to - I'd given all my characters stats that were lower than the ones in the rulebook and that seemed to be roughly in line with the 'power-level' that many people on the 'Clave advocated. However, when it came to actually playing some games I quickly realised that my characters were actually somewhat less powerful than almost everyone else's. E.g. Characters that I had intended to be good shots couldn't hit a barn door in comparison to other characters that were supposed to be of a similar skill level. The first thing I did when I got home was to adjust most of my characters and to make them a little more powerful.
Not really sure what the point of this anecdote is - maybe just to warn people that they may well find that their characters seem much less powerful than those of other people, or they may well find them to be somewhat more powerful; either way some tweaking may be necessary - either after or during the event to realign them. We've had a raft of new characters posted recently, and almost always there has been a suggestion that their stats are too high - so maybe the point is to just warn players that although there is a vocal movement towards lower stats, this may in fact be a vocal minority and that a lot of players do play using slightly more powerful characters (although still generally below the sample statlines in the back of the rulebook).
Personally, I try to work mainly from the guidelines on p15 of the LRB with a few slightly higher stats on some of my more 'heroic' characters, and I'd say that puts me somewhere in the middle as far as power levels go (I don't know if other people would agree with that assessment?). I can certainly think of players with more powerful characters, and others whose seem less powerful.
EDIT: On a related subject, I was again looking through Marco's revised armoury the other day and was reminded that some weapons in there are somewhat more powerful than the rulebook versions. The revised armoury seems to be getting more and more popular, so I was wondering what the consensus is then it comes to events such as this one - is there a movement to go to the revised stats are are most people sticking with the rulebook ones?
A few things I'll be revising
- My AdMech Warband
I'm definitely going to be reducing the heavy nature of some of the weapons, in particular the use of the Multi-Melta. The character's stats are more or less in line with what I want, I just think the weaponry needs toning down
- My Inq + Daemonhost Warband
It is likely I'll be fine-tuning Landen and Euri. In particular, the Neural Shredder host scream will likely be removed, but I'll beef the psychic powers instead.
I think there's been a minor power creep at WHW / other meets, largely focused around the use of heavier and deadlier weaponry, and high speed characters. I'm not immune - my Eldar Pirate Princess comes to mind - but she was a warband of one. There are certain characters, and indeed combos, that are heavily brutal and game changing. I think the key thing to remember is to keep stats and weapons in mind at all time - they influence one another, and there needs to be a moderation of speeds on characters.
We'll see though. Some on the fly changes may be needed.

whereas my heavily armed and armoured CIDD servitors failed to hit anything all day :D
i must be unique in the face i'm having to make my Explorator Team *more* powerful ;D
I think the three main things I've learned about power at conclave meets are probably:
1. Graviton Guns are stupidly, stupidly powerful. I've never used one against a Space Marine but as the rules stand they would be stupidly effective. Admittedly, they don't kill anyone, but disabling someone for six turns can be the difference between trashing and getting trashed.
2. Yes, weird, wonderful and obscure psychic powers are cool but they require the character not to fail every roll and it helps to have something that actually causes damage.
3. Handicapping a servitor because it has a power axe and breacher can be done more effectively than simply reducing the speed to two. With a higher speed they might actually be able to move.
There are other ones popping into my head, but they won't really be helpful (not that any of those are particularly helpful now I think about it, except number 1, Graviton Guns really are too powerful (but fun)). They all really boil down to the one principle that I probably am never going to learn. Using a new, untested warband each time isn't the best idea. If I had somewhere to test warbands not at the meet it might be easier, ah well.
So, now it's simply a matter of finishing my models, sticking back together that have fallen apart, deciding on a warband, checking to see if I have character sheets for them, making sure I have the models, checking to see if the models are obviously not GW models, checking dice and double-checking I can make the date. Right. It would seem less daunting if I actually had glue...
Quote from: Kaled on August 20, 2009, 01:13:29 PMOn a related subject, I was again looking through Marco's revised armoury the other day and was reminded that some weapons in there are somewhat more powerful than the rulebook versions.
People mixing the two at events is a point which I'm a little concerned about, because some of the weapons in the RIA have, by necessity, become rather different beasts to the LRB armoury.
I don't want to do anything to force people either way - but nor do I want to be the source of a power level problem at events.
The common choice of semi-auto pistols/stubbers are probably not a big problem to mix. Other areas are... somewhat less consistent in "power" to the rulebook though.
I imagine the trouble will emerge around shotguns, if anywhere. They're popular weapons in Inquisitor, and the damage upgrade would probably make itself apparent - even with the drop in fire rate and capacity on the popular pump action.
QuoteThe revised armoury seems to be getting more and more popular, so I was wondering what the consensus is then it comes to events such as this one.
Bear in mind, although the RIA gets quite a few mentions around the forum, that may be a vocal minority (to continue your earlier point).
As it stands, even I've got no idea what the percentage split is.
But it is a point that will need sorting out. You could mix them, but you might find it gets a little interesting - particularly if you're mixing the bolters (with the RIA's double cover rule) or Plasma weapons (with the RIA's different failure tables).
If players do use the RIA, GMs unfamiliar with it will probably need the player to do some of the legwork.
As a last point, the RIA is still lumbered with the big void of the Lasweapons, so I couldn't really recommend it as a "default" armoury for meets because of that. Still, I hope to get that space plugged by the end of the month though.

checking to see if the models are obviously not GW models
Not yet sure which warband I'm going to bring, but it's worth saying that so far I've never had any problems using non-GW models at WHW, so I may give my explorator warband another spin*. However, the rules for WHW do say GW models only, so if anyone plans to bring non-GW models then it would be worth having a backup plan.
* Alternatively I may give Ostrakov and the gimp warrior a try...
I wonder how self-sculpts fall within that "GW-only" rule. Or equally, models which are half GW, half something else - how much GW does it need to be to be valid?
Self-sculpts are fine. I think that if they are made up of GW and non-GW parts they are meant to be mainly GW parts, like 60-40 or something; however like Kaled said they don't seem to really care that much about Inquisitor models, as long as they look cool. It's probably because it's one of the smallest games, I'm guessing.
I e-mailed once e-mailed WHW to ask this question and was told that as a rule of thumb there's a blanket ban on non-GW models; however using the odd non-GW component on otherwise mainly GW models is allowed, as are self-sculpted models.
Given the amount of highly converted and/or self-sculpted models that Conclave members tend to take to WHW, the odd non-GW model is likely to go unnoticed anyway.
Uncertain confirmation from me depends on jobs and moving house dates etc
And up to the top! As it is getting closer!
Hello all,
I will also be attending. Will be my first actual look at a game been played. Very excited!
No got any mini's at yet but have been working on concept for a warband. So will be buying a couple of models whilst i am down there.
I will hopefully make it, But I don't yet know my Army Schedule, so I'm only a possible.

I'll probably have a few spare characters with me, so can no doubt lend you a couple for a game or two...
Is this just for the single day then?
I'll come too :D
I will be there too (if only so Ben can poke at me for not having my post ready for 'Where Darkness Dwells')
Hey. My name's Mark.
I'm brand new to the forum, just now signed up.
I thought I'd let you all know that I'll be coming along too, as a friend of Carados.
while i'll be there, i'm still not decided= Tech Adept Ran Stein or Zombies ;D
Looks like this will be quite the gathering of bods! Whhooopp!
And I even managed to find the place yesterday...
It's still a bit too much of a walk if you ask me... *grumbles about a slight walk*
What's the plan on warband allowance?
Uhmmm... Bring one!? :P
If you're expecting a Robey-esque grand day out, then really, you're looking at the wrong 'Claver...
Show up and play sessions all day!
How about just a Wallace and Gromit grand day out? Okay the fourteen strong admech warband it is....all at once. Muwahaha! Seriously, though I've been meaning to try our the Black Helix warband.
Funky, knock yourself out. I'm cool with anything on the day.
FYI and taxi sharing - I'll be arriving at Nottingham @ 09.18, and would be happy to share a taxi with all and sundry to save some money on the way to WHW!
Additionally, I need to be back at the station for 19.15, so again anyone fancy sharing a cab back around 18.30 is more than welcome to pile in with me!
-Ben
I should be there with sumaki, with 1 or 2 new friends for Drake Kaled ;)
Friends huh? What sort of friends?
Not yet sure whether I'll bring Kaled - I had thought of bringing Ostrakov or Cushing instead...
A "friend" who wants revenge for his predecessors death.
Apologies all. :(
It would seem that having a new wife and needing to thank a friend for being your best man can trump a "Grand Inquisitor Day Out" TM.
Not to worry as I can't actually get in the loft to retrieve my books/character sheets anyway.
I'll see you all soon - probably December now. Although I've undercoated some new minis for the occasion - perhaps I'll show them off some time.
m.
Good point, Dave. I need to get the details for the GT sorted out!
Tickets to be on sale in the next week!!
R.
I reckon I'll be bringing Carados, Basil, Valas and the two aliens.
Bring the web solvent!! ;D ;D ;D
See you all Saturday.
Oh yes, we might be coming up around 11ish so we'll find you somewhere.
Is there any entry fee to getting in?

Nope, just turn up and play.
See you tomorrow.
I'll be showing up with the traditional hangover, as I have a black tie event tonight...
Typical I get a naff shift but it's 1 till 4 so can't come
Why couldn't they give me the 7 - 11 shift tomorrow morning I could have gotten down for 1
Bloody typical
So what time is everyone arriving? I can get there pretty much any time.
i'll try for 10am .. but having looked at the maps i haven't a clue ;D
minis; check. character sheets; check. rulebooks; check. brand new D10s; check. cake dice; check. tape measure; check.
I get the fun of handwriting everything... Fortunately I don't have that much.
Damned lack-of-printer!
Hi guys I'll be arriving late, probably about 2 as I've asked to help at GW Derby. So I'll be gunning it across on the motorbike as soon as I can get away. See you all tomorrow.

That seems so awesome in my head...
minis. (Half Painted and Damaged)
character sheets; (MIA).
rulebooks. (MIA).
dice. check.
tape measure; check.
It'll be a fun day.
I shall be there, probably arriving around 10, maybe 11. Probably nearer 10. I shall be my usual vaguely disorganized self. I've been more disorganized this time, forgetting that it was happening and in a rush to find figures and paint them and decide what I was bringing and then realising that I had basically no time to do it, but now actually having character sheets and dice and a pencil and a rubber and a tape measure. A tape measure. Now, to find something to pack everything in.
In that case I shall aim for just after 10. No breakfast for me it seems...
Thanks all for showing up, and having the patience to cope with my shambolic GMing after getting in at 5.30am.
I'm now off to bed!
Someone put the posing pics on ASAP - we all posed our models with the Valkyrie... Is that a bit sad?
WHO CARES! Dave's Valk is AWESOME
Thanks for the great day. I had loads of fun!
I will post the pics tomorrow when I have Resized them.
thanks for a great day guys!
i apologise for my dice.. them's some Impressive Rolling! :-[
once i've got my shift outta the way, i'll do a wee writeup (if people could post their character names :-[ ) for
This Game (http://buildyourimagination.co.uk/minis/conclave031009.php)
both Kaled's fliers were made of Epic Win!
oh, and guess i gotta re-stat my servitors again.. last time they weren't powerful enough.. this time too powerful :-[
Indeed it was a good day, thanks to Dosdamt for GM'ing through the day, and to Kasthan for GM'ing another one.
Gavs Servitor managed some good damage with that plasma gun, including a headshot on my Inquisitor! Other highlights included psychic impelling a character into explosive barrels, then shooting them in the next turn, (The psyker in question only ever seemed to get 1 action.) several building to building jumps going badly, and Kaled's fliers, which looked fantastic!
Unfortunately, I realised I left the cable I need to grab the pictures I took from my phone, so those will have to wait until Friday.

The blue guy is Carados Eynion, and the alien is, as of this moment of time, Tiphiidae.
Some nice games yesterday, really enjoyed it :).
Agreed. It was good. (:
Nice to get my head kind of back into the rules, and see some other players.
But it was a knackering trip down, so it didn't take long to frazzle my head.
I look forward to future meetings.
