hey to every one.
recently while tidying i found my old rule book for inq, and decided to take a look to see how it was still doing, having been out of the hobby for a good few years, all of GW not just inq.
after a few weeks of browsing this forum as well as reading some of the "new" .pdf files i have found i've been interested in getting back into the inq hobby, if not the rest of GW games.
below is a character i have come up with if you more experienced members cn give advice on him.
magos alterus delphi
little is known of alterus until his advancement to tech-preist, where he left the forge world Incaladion with magos belarus grix, on a explorator mission, under, apparent, orders from an unknown tech-lord, to secure xenos-tech for study.
it was on this mission alterus came into contact with the A.I drones that the tau use, and his interest in the forbidden sceince of A.I began.
when his study became known to grix, alterus was forced to remove the threat to the advancement of knowledge, with the help of kroot mercenarys, who then who were purged by skitarii for the murder of the magos.
On the return to Incaladion Alterus was promoted to magos for the technology and knowledge he had brought back, although the knowledge of A.I
was kept secret. Over the decades Alterus dedicated his time on his research, and was sort out by a member of a group of locicians, who wished to share knowledge with the "young" magos. With the combined knowledge of the group Alterus' research in to A.I began to develop quickly, and fearing the
local preisthood would discover his works, he left the world under the guise of a explorator mission to both continue his work and find more knowledgefrom the dark age of technology.

right handed, left arm is a collection of mecherandites
bionics:
bionic right arm ((s 65) av 2)
bionic legs (av3)
various bionic organs (+25% to resistance tests)
bionic senses (all)(+10 to awareness) fitted with infra-scope
mecherandites replace left arm
equipment:
master-crafted stubber (+5 acc) miu shot selector
5 "EMP" rounds (D10 damage, counts as shock weapon against mechanical targets)
4 man-stoppers
robes covering all loacations (2av)
the model is in progress of being put together at the moment and will be posted when i have accsess to a camera.
Really liking the background. A Magos being tempted by the forbidden fruits of A.I. Would love to some expansion on it though.
The statline is pretty balanced, as well as the wargear. I think the EMP rounds are alright, being solely dedicated against mechanical things. Definitely would be useful against some of the Heavier Servitors we see on the board.
Of course, I'll defer to some of the more experienced clavers.
(Always wanted to do this)
Welcome to the Conclave
the back ground is in proccess of being written up fully, as well as memebers of his retinue.
the EMP rounds were used mainly as a fail safe against the A.I constructs he may construct, incase they go they way of the iron-men, giving him the time to destroy them before they attack him or his retinue.
although for some of the more lethal constructs a MIU explosive device may be used, i.e from a thaught the whole thing goes bang!
Good idea. A collection of failsafes, both subtle and more overt are cool. I look forward to the A.I. constructs, if you plan on writing up any.
(By the way, what model are you going to be using for him? Delphan Gruss I suppose?)
Nice background. Interesting but not over the top.
If anything I'd pad the kit up a bit, Marco Skoll has done a fantastic armoury with multiple variations on the subject of 'stubber' and autopistols and laspistols, though the latter isn't so relevant. There are tons of ammo types too. You can find it in this 'Inquisitor Rules Discussion' bit.
im in the middle of reading the article, looking at items that might be relevant to the character, but thaught the general stubber from the RB would fit as a general weapon until i came up with an idea for a more personalised wepon for him. Although i do think the "E.M.P" rounds will stay the same, unless a memeber has a better idea how to implement them, maybe not damage, if that is OP or UP but i do like the idea of shutting down robotic/servitor constructs if they go "mad"
I did have an idea for a anti-mech "poison" a while ago, basically some sort of crude nanomachine which enters the target and starts shorting circuits and jamming motors and joints. The effect would be make a T test for all the targets bionic parts if a test is failed the part now counts as crude for D6 turns.
This just reminded me of it (and a few other poisons I started working on). Could be the sort of thing that another character in the warband would use.
Still the character looks good stat wise and looks like they'll be good to play. :D

Well, if you're going in that direction, here's another thought:

What would be an interesting game is if the A.I. developed to get around the countermeasures and failsafes, and you get intelligent robots, not happy at their previous incarceration, running around a Mechanicus outpost...

Ever read Neuromancer? :P
If you do try that Scenario, the AI definitely has to be called Wintermute.
No, I'm sure I'd understand the Wintermute thing if I had.
But AI going haywire and attacking its human creators is a fairly common story idea, so yes, you will see that sort of thing elsewhere.
First off, I take it your aware thaty Magos Delphi is aware just how heretical what he's doing is?
Also, it's just a thought, but what *would* be cool would be if the AI began to infect other technological items around it. An idea well and truly stolen from the Schismaticals of the Deep Infotombs (as described in DH's book of monsters...). Just a thought!
Character seems balanced, although Ld seems perhaps a little high for what is basically a mad scientist type...

It wasn't so much the AI killing people theme, which definitely is a staple of the sci-fi genre, more the overcoming of failsafes designed to limit an AI's potential. Still, I shan't say much more - I fear I may have already said a bit much - I don't want to ruin it for any who may not have yet read it.
(sorry for the slight off-topicness, I shall leave it there)
I wonder if anyone in the admech has ever experimented with the 3 Asimov laws of A.I. safety.
Yeah I wondered that too. I love the three laws stories. Azimov created the supposingly inviolable 3 laws and then wrote stories that deliberately broke them. My kind of writer.
Obviously not applicable with most Imperial tech though, no point in fixing a servitor with a heavy bolter is is can't hurt people.
