Title: Krud - a work in progress.
Post by: Myriad on March 25, 2010, 01:44:38 PM
I'd been saving this guy ntill he's finished, but since it's quiet I'll post up a pic.  My brother just named him :).

too much greenstuf - it's smooth if the camera is out of focus.  Used to be the nightbringer.  I'm a bit concerned he's wearing some xenos dressing gown whose sleeves are larger on the inside, but otherwise O'm quite pleased.  And just to show no bits ever go to waste;

Technoghost.  haven't quite worked out what he's for yet.

I like the techno-ghost a lot.  I feel like he needs mechandrites coming out of everywhere.  Not sure if you'd want to give him some necron links given the scarabs on the base, that could be potentially interesting.  Not many folks have tackled necrons in a more PC role and I feel like the techno-ghost could be an opening.  There are instances of the Necrons having emissaries with slightly more personality and this could certainly be one of them.

Krud is interesteding, but kind of busy.  I don't really know what's going on.  Personally I think the arms are a bit long and plain.  Perhaps something more mechanical to fit with the leg?

A in Krud the Hrud? I think its an excellent start at tackling the Hrud and I shall be watching this thread with great interest.

My fault I'm afraid. I mispronounced Hrud, and my brother mistook it to be a serious suggestion for a name.

Techno Ghost looks pretty cool.

Krud looks awesome.

Thanks for the comments.

I've finished the greenstuff on the dressing gown, and will now put the greenstuff away for another month.  It was going to be a complete robe at first, but I found the modl looking a bit blobby and decided to show a little leg, and added a tail.  I'm not sure the model still doesn't need something - where he keeps that stabbing stick is bothering me.

I'm a bit disappointed that you covered up his front leg so much, that's what made him so Hrud-looking! I'd really like to see him showing a bit more ankle  ;D

I'm going to echo that statement.  Surely you could have used a less awesome bit as an armature.

same opinion.
looked better on the first pic.

p.s.: it`s still a good miniature, but it could be overwhelming...

Hm. The miniature looks like it's coming on well, but I wouldn't call that GSing 'done' yet. The robe would probably have more folds in it than that... they're pretty simple to sculpt on (I've only been sculpting a couple of moths and I can doo 'em fine). Also, this is 40k- lots of belts and straps with dangly puches etc might be in order.

Long story short, nice fig, but not exactly finished... don't put that GS away yet!

Bring the leg back, It was awesome.

Hmm.  In the light of the demands for Krud's leg, I've removed some of the greenstuff to make it mostly visible below the 'knee'.  It does make the model look less like a robed blob.

I think I'll add some kind of harness for his sword at some point, but I'm going to paint what I've got first - I can't quite work out how you carry that thing safely  :)

And..painted.  Finished except for the base, although I may revisit him at some point (between now and the conclave my to do list seems to be basing stuff).  Now with added leg, ironically poplular for a part I got mainly to give the model the correct shape  ;).  Not the cleanest piece of work, but considerably better than I thought he would be when I started.

My brother's reaction was to "you say he's *not* the nightbringer?".

i would prefer it a little bit darker, maybe wash it with badab black to darken it a little bit more? and i would prefer it a little bit dirtier, maybe wash it with devlan mud? but that`s just my opinion, it`s still a very cool miniature!

and that bone-coloured blade is awesome!!!

bye, phil

My own comment would be that the back of the model works very well - but the sculpting around the front is somewhat on the untidy side, mostly because the different stages and layers haven't blended together brilliantly.

You can usually be slightly untidy with sculpting, as close air support painting covers a multitude of sins, but only so far. The trick usually is to paint as if the imperfections in the sculpt weren't there - and of course, washes aren't selective in how they bring out the texture of the surface, so I use them with care.

Ironic? You wouldn't say that if you'd done that kind of thing even half as many times as I have! I make mistakes or use placeholders - and I end up liking them more than what I originally planned.

Serendipity is just something I have a talent for. Not a bad talent to have, really.

I like the concept and the blade (very much the blade), and the face is well done, but I have to say that the (his) right shoulder join around the sleeve lets it down a little, and there's no obvious way the robe stays closed.

A little highlighting or drybrushing across the  folds of the cloth would definitely help make it look far more real, and maybe a bit of careful shading with a dark wash in the recesses of the shoulder and the overlap on the front would be good too.

Thanks for the commentary.

He is darker than he looks - the flash hasn't done him many favours.  The back is considerably tidier than the front - I'm not certain any attempts to tidy it would improve the situation though.  I might add a bit more shading at some point.  I'm afraid I copped out of handling the problem of how the robes are fastened - if you think that's a logical problem, ask yourself how that rifle got up his sleeve! (magic?).

Wicked looking blade and a good face there too. Some highlighting on the cloak would really help bring the model to life - but it's a good concept, and you are much braver than I - I'm not sure I would dare try sculpting so much of a model! Although then again that's just me; I've never been much of a GS wizard!

It's coverth...  :P

He looks rather... shocked. Like someone just gave him a wedgie shocked, rather than horror at a daemon shock. I like him though.

See, i think the face looks like a horrible lizard, or maybe some kind of gecko or salamander. It makes it quite reptilian, and thus to me, makes me think of the character as draconian. Then again, at no point have I ever claimed to have a normally functioning train of thought....

Oh, I agree. Just his eyes are a bit round. I like him a lot - the weapon is great, and the back is excellent, but the eyes distract me.
