Title: Electro-Priest Larissa Teunis
Post by: Kaled on May 01, 2010, 09:50:03 AM
Morning all,

I've been working on this, the latest member of Kryzak's expedition, for some time now.  I started her ages ago, then hit a roadblock when it came to her hair - I wanted it to be standing on end, much as if she were touching a Van der Graaf generator, but while this was easy to sketch on my concept pic, I had no idea how to turn it into a model.  I modified my idea several times to try to make it easier to realise, and asked for ideas how to do it from several of the forums better sculptors and modellers, and in the end I managed to create something that, while by no means perfect, is at least striking and is a fair match for my original concept.

I'm not sure an adept of the Machine God should be showing quite so much flesh, but I wanted plenty of space on which to paint her electoos.  She doesn't have many visible augmentations, but is not meant to be highly ranked within the AdMech anyway (and I figured I could use the excuse that as an Electro-Priest, she shouldn't have too many bionics as the vast amounts of power she channels through her flesh could interfere with them).  Unfortunately, the electoos don't show up too well in the photos (the flash is reflecting off them), but I hope you get the idea.

Wow! She looks great.

Hmmm, it seems to work. Anyway, I always imagined electro-priests as having only thin robes because I thought thicker ones might get in the way when they tried to conduct electricity.

The electoos look absolutely fabulousand the little mechanical spine is a great detail- it, along with the detailing on her clothes, gives the impression that she is part of the AdMech without completely overdoing it.

Overall, another inspiring piece of work, Kaled.

I don't mind the amount of flesh - either they're human enough to have some vanity still (and they do start out as human, at the least), or they're simply entirely indifferent to how it looks.  Either way, "because I wanted to fit cool detail on the model" constitutes enough of a pretext.

The electoos don't show up brilliantly but we can see they're there - the model has a lot of prescence, and scary hair (which needs tiny mechadendrite heads or something  :)).

I can't quite work out the base for this model - I'm guessing at a combination of cherubael and one the sisters devout?

I'm guessing that it is entirely self sculpted (except for maybe the hands.)

It looks amazing Dave (as we all expect from your work.)
How did you end up doing the hair in the end?

Brilliant model - really striking. Also, I might speculate that it is a Severina or Sevora devout conversion, simply based on the corset type feature (although if it is a scratch sculpt that's even more impressive!). Either way, great work and an interesting take on the electro-priest. I've never seen a picture of one before, and I imagined them as being just like regular admech guys but with more electricity, but i prefer this depiction as it gives the concept a unique feel - definitely sets it apart from the 'standard' techpriest.

I wondered whether anyone would be able to guess, but it seems not...  She's based on JMD Miniature's Succubus (http://www.historexagents.com/shop/hxproductdetail.php?ProductCode=AC001R).  I reposed her, removed all(?!) of her armour and resculpted areas that had formerly been covered up - I was particularly proud of her right leg, which unfortunately you can't really see anymore.  I was then left with a naked female model, to which I added skirts and a short corset.  Her hands are from 28mm zombies (I forget who sent me those, but thanks) - originally I planned to give her slightly larger hands so I could have wire 'lightning' shooting out of her fingertips, but couldn't get it to look quite right.

I drilled as many holes in her head as possible and inserted lengths of wire.  Then around each wire I added strands of greenstuff to fill in the gaps so she didn't have bald patches on her scalp.  It took ages as I could only add a handful of pieces at a time.  Finding suitable wire was also difficult - too thin and it tended to be too flexible (and meant I had to insert even more pieces!), too thick and it really didn't look like hair.  It also needed to be stiff enough that the model could survive handling and transport, but flexible enoughto be bent into fairly natural looking locks of hair.  I think the wire I used in the end was brass wire for flower arranging.  I did try 4-5 different methods of doing hair, but this was the only one I could get to look even half decent...

PO has a very nice Electro-Priest (I guess there's a pic in his Photobucket) and his is fairly similar in concept - robes and few visible augmentations other than his electoos.  GW apparently commissioned a model (http://www.solegends.com/citrare/electropriest.htm) for one in the 90s, but I can't say I'm a fan (though it isn't a great photo - it may look better painted).  I think there's a lot of scope when it comes to creating AdMech models - the only truly essential thing for an Electro-Priest are the electoos spiraling around their body.

Now I just need to set up a game so I can try out her rules...
