Title: new here
Post by: bcullum on May 06, 2010, 12:23:00 AM
greetings to everyone here :)

i've been thinking about getting back into the inquisitor hobby recently. mainly due to finding my old rule book in a old dusty draw lol.
any way moving on to my point, wrote up the main back story of a character i've been thinking about and wondered if any of you had any suggestions:

inquisitor gregor teuful.

Born into a privellaged family, gregor was brought up in the Schola Progenium in the Danube sub-sector. when his, considrable psychic potentional surfaced, he was luckily taken away on the black ships.

apon the ship, whispers of other candidates heard his ears. not liking these ideas of heresy, Gregor manipulated his way into the head of a self formed group, and "suggested" to them to revolt, when this came to happen, gregor worked with inquisititorial teams, especially a certian Inquisitor valere.
Apon the suppression of the recividists both gregor and valare were no where to be found.
Valare took teuful on as an acolyte, encouraging his training in telepathy, manipulation and subterfuge.

at the age of 32 standard teuful was promoted to the full rank of inquisitor and was presented with his ever trusty force staff from Valare to as recognition of his achievments, which are still to this day, mainly a mystery, and to help him further channel his mind to would be puppets.

since his rise to inquisitorial status teuful has "discovered" many heretical cults within imperial heiriachy, many which happned to include many members of the top levels of the orginisations,
causing extreme structual changes to be implemented, most often from the ground up, rumoured also to be heavily influenced by him.

Sorry, but the Blackships are psi-shielded. No psychic powers whatsoever, so no "suggestion" either. No-one's going to be stupid enough to allow thousands of very probably unwilling psykers their powers.

You're going to have to find another way around that - mundane means are not impossible.

Quotewhen this came to happen, gregor worked with inquisititorial teams, especially a certian Inquisitor valere.
Why? What meant they were prepared to trust this psyker to help them put down a rebellion?

Quoteat the age of 32 standard teuful was promoted to the full rank of inquisitor
Definitely on the young side.
16-20 is probably about the earliest a character is mentally mature enough to even start to be an acolyte, and then there's decades of training.

Usually, I take 40 as about the lower end of things. Much below that, the Inquisitor's training was probably somewhat rushed and incomplete.

Quotesince his rise to inquisitorial status teuful has "discovered" many heretical cults within imperial heiriachy, many which happned to include many members of the top levels of the orginisations. causing extreme structual changes to be implemented, most often from the ground up, rumoured also to be heavily influenced by him.
This however, I do like. The idea of a Recongregator who frames people in order to have them removed is a nice one, allowing him to appear to work in the open, yet still achieve the results he desires.

Welcome!  Marco has already asked most of what I would have commented on, but a couple more points...

The Schola Progenium is really a school for the orphaned children of Imperial servants rather than a place that any well-to-do family can send their kids.  That's not to say it'd be impossible for his family to have got him into the school, but since his family have no major bearing on his backstory, you could just say they were fairly high-ranking members of the Administratum who were murdered in a revolt or something.

Quotehe was luckily taken away on the black ships.
I'm not sure about the use of the word 'luckily'.  Sure there are worse things that can happen to a rogue psyker, but being taken aboard a Blackship is a pretty terrible fate - so traumatic in fact that the psykers memories of his time aboard the ship are usually wiped.

QuoteValare took teuful on as an acolyte, encouraging his training in telepathy, manipulation and subterfuge.
Who trained him?  Did he ever make it to the Scholastia Psykana?  Or is he effectively still unsanctioned?

Other than that, I too like his method of Recongregation - it's a great idea.  And his stats / equipment seem pretty good.  I'd be tempted to give him a refractor field - as an Inquisitor he could easily get one, and at the moment he's pretty fragile.  It's also nice to see a main character with a standard laspistol - all too often people upgrade them to some sort of more powerful version.

How do you plan to model this guy?

after reading the last reply's i thaught i needed to work at the back story so here it is (again).

inquisitor gregor teuful.

Born into a privellaged family, high in the workings of adetpus administratum, gregors early life was pretty uneventful, until a raid of adeptus arbites lead by a certain inquisitor Valare, with the accusation of "heresy" and "sedition".Valare sensed the psychic potential of Gregor during the raid, after the boy had "commanded" member of his team to stop.

Valare had him placed, through his influence, at a local schola psykana after thorough screening. During his training gregor's affinity for telepathy grew immensly, and from this began to learn rumours of rebellion in the schola, after the lawful execution of certain "rouge elements" by, again, Valare. As these rumours turned more solid, gregor managed to have him self placed into a prominent position with in the group, through both suggestions and diplomacy, little known to the rest of them under the watchful eye's of Valare. As soon as the rebellion came to fruition, Gregor was able to provide his, by then, guide and master a list of those who had been a part of the rebellion, which happened to involve both pupils and teachers alike. After the rebelion had been put down, Valare formally inducted him into his staff as an acolyte. From here most of the next few years are, to this day, clouded in mystery.

At the age of 52 standard Teuful was promoted to the full rank of inquisitor and was presented with his ever trusty force staff from Valare to as recognition of his achievments, to help him further channel his mind to would be puppets.

since his rise to inquisitorial status Teuful has "discovered" many heretical cults within imperial heiriachy, many which happned to include many members of the top levels of the orginisations,
causing extreme structual changes to be implemented, most often from the ground up, rumoured also to be heavily influenced by him. Most Recently a "genocide cult" who managed to virus bomb hive tetra on the hive world renical, after which both the pllanetary govenor, local hive govenors and the leaders of the PDF and Arbites were all burnt for treason after there "implication" in the plot, and not seeing the the signs of this was happening.

i have two ideas that im bouncing about at the moment, one being a converstion of the navigator model, or one the eisenhorn model with arm swaps/bending to allow him to hold a his staff, either taken from the model, or more likely scratch built with maybe the head of eisenhorns staff, and most likely green-stuffing a cowl to the model.
although again your idea's would be helpful.

Both Eisenhorn and the Navigator are nice models; Eisenhorn is more versatile by virtue of coming in more pieces (there's a link in the modelling resources thread where you can see pics of assembled models). Eisenhorn's arms are not that easy to repose though and you'd be better off buying a second model that has arms in the pose you want, then using the left-over bits to build another warband member. Or, if you prefer the Navigator, you can probably get Eisenhorn's staff from someone on the Arcadian Smugglers Ring (again, see the resources thread for details). If you have any more modelling questions, just ask...

Re non-orphans in the Schola Progenium, a novel I pitched to the Black Library - not commissioned but, in retrospect, probably a good thing - involved a child of a noble family who was formally disowned and adopted by an Imperial Guard officer who was about to leave the planet and then sent back to be "warded" by his original family.  The idea being that, when the officer was inevitably killed, their child would gain a place in the Schola Progenium, giving them a potential association with a future mover-and-shaker in the Adeptus Terra.

Part of the background was that this was quite a common practice throughout the Imperium and that, as a result, these faux-orphans were treated as second-class citizens within the Schola Progenium by both progena and teachers.  It was intended as an ironic reversal of the usual situation in the English Public School system on which the Schola is based, in which scholarship boys (i.e. the poor and occasionally orphaned) were second-class, while the fee-paying children from wealthy families were on top.

Just thought I'd put that out there as an option for characters who go to the Schola yet still need to have aristocratic connections.
