Title: Inquisitor Maul ( The villian for our next campaign)

Inquisitor Cornelius Maul

Inquisitor Cornelius Maul is a member of the Ordo Xenos and a Revivicator. He was born in the Void on a Rogue Trader vessel named the Dark Reach almost nine hundred years ago. His parents were both crewmembers aboard the ship. His father was the first officer and his mother was chief of security. Maul grew up learning about life on a rogue trader. He also learned of the duties he would be called upon to perform when he came of age. However, on Maul's 11th birthday, Cornelius Maul's life changed drastically.

On this day a small vessel pulled up along side the Dark Reach and identified itself as the True Path, the personal transport of Inquisitor Lucian Iron. It gave orders to prepare to be boarded and inspected. As it turned out the captain of the Dark Reach was transporting xenos artifacts and selling them on the black market. After a thorough search of the vessel that lasted for three days, the crew was arrested, the captain was executed, and the ship destroyed.

While in route to the local Inquisitorial base so the crew could be evaluated and tried if necessary, an unusual occurrence happened. One of the guards aboard the Inquisitor's ship attempted to assault Mauls mother while two other guards restrained him and his father. He yelled at the guards to stop, but they only laughed. This caused something in Maul to be unleashed and his latent psychic powers manifested themselves. Maul unleashed hales of dark bolts from his eyes and filled the room with the psychic onslaught. Before anyone could figure out what was happening or even react, they were all on the floor dead. When the attack finally ended, only Maul was left standing.

Inquisitor Iron arrived shortly after the attack with a detachment of stormtroopers. His first reaction was to shoot Maul immediately. However, his better judgment overcame his rage and he had Maul confined to a cell and tested. After weeks of testing, Inquisitor Iron found Maul free of taint. Iron decided that maybe Maul possessed what it took be more than just food for the Golden Throne. Iron proceeded to educate and train Maul to be an inquisitor. After three years of education, Maul was promoted to Interrogator and introduced to the Revivicator philosophy. Nine years later, Maul was made a full Inquisitor when his mentor was killed by an Eldar Farseer on the Moons of Ghann.

Maul spent the next several centuries studying and observing the way that the soul leaves the body and tried several times unsuccessfully to contain the soul within various devices of his own creation. However, the centuries of fighting the enemies of the emperor were beginning to take their toll on his body and he was now just a shell of the young man he once was. Then one fateful day while passing through the Clovis System Maul's ship, the Endless Fervor, picked up a strange transmission in a language that sounded similar to the elder language. When they went to investigate the strange signal, they found a derelict Dark Eldar vessel. Maul prepared a boarding party and then proceeded to search the vessel for anything of interest. Inquisitor Maul had hoped to find useful technology, but what he found exceeded his wildest dreams.

Inquisitor Maul found a Hermuolici named Xa'thori dying within one of the ships many torture chambers. Xa'thori was lying on the floor of the chamber. His left arm and both his legs were severed and scattered about the room and he had several large lacerations across his body. Maul believed that he had finally found the key to his studies of the soul and quickly sedated and transported the Hermoucli back to his ship. Once aboard, the Inquisitor did his best and stabilized the eldar's condition and revived him. The Hermuiculi was furious at being captured and cursed and threatened the Inquisitor. Maul however was not phased. He made an offer to the eldar. Serve him for the next twenty years, teach him everything he knows about death and the soul, and finally repair his now feeble body. In exchange, Maul promised to allow him to live, repair the eldar's body, and free him upon completion of his time and give him the gift of 1000 slaves.

Xa'thori agreed to the arrangement and began to design a new body for Inquisitor Maul. Maul had his personal medicae repair what he could of Xa'thori's body and replace his limbs with the finest bionics available. After several months of studying the human body and the technology of the Imperium, Xa'thori designed a series of upgrades that would combine the best of both human and dark eldar genetics and technology. The process of upgrading Maul took several days. During this time no one was allowed to enter or leave the laboratory. Also, Inquisitor Maul had several automated assault cannons installed into the laboratory and had them programmed to activate and kill everything in the room if his heart ever stopped at any point. This ensured that his prisoner would not kill him while he was vulnerable.

Upon the completion of the upgrades, Inquisitor Maul was transformed from a frail old man into an athletic killing machine. His reflexes and muscles were enhanced and several of his body parts were replaced with bionics. Once the first part of their deal was complete, the inquisitor had the hermucali begin his education into the mysteries of the soul. After spending twenty years learning about the binding of souls and how the souls of others could be consumed, Inquisitor Maul considered his prisoner. Maul decided that to release this creature would be an affront to the Emperor and so he invited to join him for a feast before he was released. At the feast Inquisitor Maul toasted the Hermuicli and wished him a good journey. Upon completion of his speech, Maul's bodyguard shot Xa'thori. Now, Maul transverses the galaxy studying the soul and planning the return of the Emperor.

That and his many battles against the enemies of the Imperium have taken their toll on his body. Due to this, he can not move faster than a walk. Also, it takes twice the number of actions to get up from the prone position, climb anything, or any other physically staining activities. The GM can decide which activities fall under this category.

Hmm. Not a bad concept, but it does have a few things that don't quite work for me.

Normally, the general consensus this site takes is that the upper limit of rejuvenat technology is normally about 500 years. Some members of the Adeptus Mechanicus survive longer, but there aren't many parts left to die when they get that old - and sorcery is another option to exceed that limit.

~~~~~
The Dark Eldar - yeah, I can go with them being talked into aiding a human if they believe they're getting enough out of it, but I don't really like the idea of the bionics.
Eldar and Human physiologies are sufficiently different that actually doing such a thing would be an epic task in its own right - and no matter how "fine" the bionics may be by human standards, any Eldar would see them as utterly worthless.
I can't immediately say what you can do instead, but if you do go with it as it is, I'd make it something of a point that the Eldar perhaps saw that the Inquisitor's end of the bargain had not been upheld?
One idea that you could consider (although you don't have to), is that perhaps the Dark Eldar wasn't entirely honest in the deal either. While he couldn't kill Maul, that doesn't mean he couldn't interfere with the surgery - maybe additions or omissions were made that the Inquisitor doesn't know about?
It seems to me that instead of replacing parts of Maul's body, any Haemonculus worth his salt would simply cut out his heart and keep it beating in a jar - then go on to torture the foolish mon-keigh in indescribable ways before taking over the ship and escaping to wreak vengeance on those who left him for dead in the first place...
On top of what has already been said, you claimed Maul encountered the Inquisitor while he was 11 (i can't quote due to posting from my phone), and then that the Inquisitor made him an Interrogator after 3 years. That would make him a 14 year old Interrogator - and as many discussions (and one Dark Magenta article) explain, teenage prodigies in the Inquisition are a bad idea.
You then claim that he had 9 years as Interrogator before becoming a full Inquisitor (making him 23). It is generally agreed upon that the absolute minimum period before full Inquisitor-hood is about 30 years. Perhaps a character could be a couple of below this, but 9 years is far too short a period to be defensible.
These however are not irredeemable; just lengthen the time periods.
Another point is that you claim Inquisitor Iron saw 'potential' in the young boy and thus just inducted him into the Inquisition. Surely a more likely step would be to make him a sanctioned psyker? If inquisitors just inducted every psyker they happened accross, the Inquisition would be rather crowded.
However, if i could make a suggestion, how about the Inquisitor sends the child away to become sanctioned (otherwise technically he is still just a rogue), then later needs a psyker for some mission or another, and decides he shall use the boy he discovered himself. During the mission Maul excels and Iron decides to keep him as a regular. After sufficient time 'proving himself' Iron finally decides that Maul would make a good Acolyte, and after the X years of training, Maul finally gains full Inquisitorhood. It would mean that Maul would be much older than you place him when he becomes an Inquisitor, but considering one of his defining features is that he is very old, that shouldn't be a problem.
However, at the end of the day he's your character and you're welcome to find your own way around these problems, but similarly you are welcome to use the suggestions I give.
