Title: Ellis - bounty hunter character
Post by: Shannow on May 28, 2010, 01:08:28 AM
Having more or less finished the design of my inquisitor (Inquisitor Maximilian Shannow), I've designed one of his companions, Ellis the bounty hunter. For the model I'm going to use the top half of this one:

http://www.celtoslegion.de/urbanwar/Syntha/13319.jpg

but will bulk out the abdomen and half sculpt some legs/half steal from somewhere else. Keeping him very thin and lithe with an organic feel to all the metal aspect. I will be modifying the head as well so it looks more like a man with an advanced helmet on, and the left arm will have a hand holding an agoniser in it. Anyway his stats are as follows:

Stats

WS   BS   S          T   I   Wp   Sg   Nv   Ld   Spd
67   67   70(30)   68   80   63   51   75   45   5

- Right handed

- Skills – True Grit

- Weapons – Neural shredder and 2 x Agonisers

- Armour – Carapace all over (5)

- Equipment – Average bionic left arm (+1 armour and S=40), 2 x advanced bionic eyes, Average bionic legs (+1 armour and +1 movement sans crawling & climbing). - the legs will be subject to my sculpting ability tbh :P

- Special Rules – If Inquisitor Shannow is knocked unconscious then the neural implant in Ellis's brain begins to fire up and he must pass a willpower test (or fall unconscious himself) for every turn that Shannow remains unconscious. No modifier applies for the first turn but a negative modifier that increases by -10 every turn thereafter as the pain becomes intolerable (i.e. -10 in second turn, -20 in third turn, -30 in fourth etc).

Ellis. No other name, no other number. Scary as hell...

You could sit in the darkest, mutant infested corner of any underhive you cared to name, but if that name and your name got put in the same sentence, then you bet your sweet momma' you sold for a 'stimm your dead. And dead real quick...

Ellis was top class, A-grade bounty hunter come assassin combo. The real McCoy was a saying I read on an old holograph on Erebus' ship that describes Ellis to a tea. Hell the man could make me look like a saint. Imagine my surprise when he fell my in my lap, weak as a day old kitten.

I had been trailing Emmanuelle Gronvold for months, he was a big slick in the 'relic' trade; usually all the normal BS fakes but for once he had actually got the real thing without knowing it and was on the verge of selling it to a cult that could make the underhive more of hell quick as a flash with its power. Naturally, it was as good as mine. Crawling backwards in his den, through the mess his partner had made when my tiny telepathic suggestion made him eat his shotgun, he begged for penance and I asked why I should give him that mercy. Ellis, he said...Ellis.

He led me to a cell with a bloody rag of a man in it; if it wasn't for the distinctively large amount of bionics he had (minus the damn strong arm of course) I would have been inclined to leave the mess there, but I was not passing this chance up. After explaining that he had placed a neural bomb in Ellis' skull for a distasteful public execution (though neglecting how he had in fact come to subdue such a killer sadly), Gronvold made a swift journey to his partner's side.
On board the Sanctum (my beautiful new craft), I had my tech-mech repair Ellis to full operational capacity, though with a few added touches I might add. Stood in front of me he thanked me in a surprisingly deep and calm voice then asked me the price. I replied 'Serve me and the Emperor for your soul'. With a ghost of a smile he replied 'What if...?', and to my eternal pleasure I showed him true pain through the integrated neural transmitter we had supplanted the bomb with. 'Touché Inquisitor'.

Despite his misgivings I do believe Ellis enjoys the work he does for me as well as the luxury of equipment and enhancements it affords him, though it is always handy to know he keeps that extra incentive in mind so to speak. Having only asked him once and him being a terribly quiet man, I never have discovered how he came to be captured by Gronvold; his only reply to my first probing of the subject had been 'Never trust a man that's teeth are too clean'. Curious chap, keeps himself to himself but certainly gets the job done; come to think of it he never did say why he has all that metal either....

The rather short backstory is, as you probably guessed, told from the perspective of Inquisitor Shannow.

Comments and critiques if you please one and all :)

Nice - I like the background and the writing style and the stat line seems to fit in with that without any problems as far as I can see.

The escalating modifyier Wp test to retain conciousness seems fine.
True Grit makes sense.
Not sure if Furious Assault would be appropriate or something a little more refined, but perhaps an ability that marks him out as a skilled killer - Rock Steady Aim if he is more of a shootist as opposed to close combat?
Do his eyes have any particular augmentations or additions?

Nice starting figure, good luck with the legs and we all love a photo once hes done.

Thanks for the comments flinty. i wasn't sure whether or not to give him furious assault tbh, though as I see it he is not particularly better at one or the other skill so his shooting and assault work in unison. With regards the eye I was thinking of incorporating a gunsight (maybe the infrascope) but didn't know if that would be greedy overkill :P.

Hopefully I should get the figure fairly soon but have to wait for my exams to finish to make any reasonable headway.

Thanks again!
