so, it was mentioned (repeatedly ::) ) at the GT that we'd like to see Zombie Conversion Packs for your favourite 54mm figures :)
now, i'm still at the planning phase but thought i'd open the floor for ideas / contributions :)
the Plan© So Far; i was going to do 5 & 1/2 generic arms with torn sleeves and grasping hands etc, a head or two and some entrails that can be glued to figures...
however, i've had a better (?) idea... instead i do a series of bits, each designed for a specific Inquisitor figure :)
Example; Young Paladin (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat490044a&prodId=prod1110201) Zombie Pack: 1x Arm, 1x half arm, zombie head and torn robe detail
(http://buildyourimagination.co.uk/minis/gallery/inq/zombies/zombie_pack_01.JPG)
(along way to go; the arm will have a glove to match covenants, the head needs sculpting, a smashed up psycannon replacement and there will be a flat object that glues onto a leg for a "torn open" effect :)
as i've got a Josef and an Eisenhorn coming, there's three packs to work towardtill i can get some more of the 54mm range to work with...
so, thoughts? suggestions?
This seems to me to be a wonderful idea. I really look forards to seeing more of it.
The flat ripped cloth effect is genius...
Sounds like a brilliant plan - a little less daunting and technically complex than sculpting it all from scratch, or trying to make generics that will fit most of the GW range, especially with all the scale differences.
I guess IP's an avoidable issue in this case?
IP shouldn't be an issue; they're generic 54mm zombie packs *innocent look*
slight update; i'm working on the outstretched arm, so here's the start of the head :)
a slightly aged version of the "Young Paladin" who has had his face torn up, no doubt as he fell fighting :)
next up is some lank straggly hair and a neck :)
That must have really hurt the poor paladin. I love the moustache.
so, here's where i am at the mo :)
still got more work todo on the outstretched arm; i've just reworked the joints so that they sit flush with covenants' torso :)
i'm not sure on the torn leg detail, but am trying to think what else to do!
Work has started on the broken up psycannon and i'm hoping to have a shotgun in the pack for hunting the zombie with!
Love it so far! Have you considered a replacement foot perhaps? One where the boot is torn to shreds and you can see a half-eaten foot sticking out. (I rather like the idea that Covenant died from stubbing his toe on a zombie!) Also I fully support shotguns!
so, the shottie is far too large (being Covs' height!) , but the (busted) psycannon is pretty much done (the icon is a single bar but easily resculpted by anyone with the pack into a familiar icon :)
i've saved the "busted foot" idea for the Eisenhorn kit ;)
Awesome work as always dude!! Looks great when put together. Have to keep working so I can be at your level!
Love it. Fairly badass looking for a zombie mind, I think it's the carapace armour. Love the exposed bit of skull, the detail work is impressive.
So what do you expect the demand to be for this pack, Gav?
Those parts are great, I really like how changing only a few parts of the model can make it a completely believable zombie.
Well, i've held off spruing up the components till i had a better idea of demand; at the GT it was suggested that there was a market.. Who'd be interested if i was to get a price?
This is going great! I'd definitely pick up one of these packs, but one or two bits are pretty covenant specific, which is a shame, as you might not get much of use out of them. The broken psycannon is lovely, and would definitely warrant being on a zombie covenant, not sure what I'd do with a second or third one however...
What I would like to see in this pack is another head or two and a few pairs of arms, maybe some busted open shoes and some misc accessories. 3 heads, 3 pairs of arms and half a dozen other misc items, brains, rotting patches etc, I'd happily pay over £20 for that :)
Keep up the good work gav!
*edit* If you make some prototypes of what you've got, I'd be happy to paint them up and send them back if you wanted to use them for display/commercial purposes. Drop me a PM if you're interested!
That head is awesome, I love it.
keep it coming

Basically this.
With a few generic zombie limbs, heads etc. I would definately pick up a few of these packs (after all, one or two zeds are no threat, the real problem comes when they show up in hordes, that's when you find out who's remembered their zombie plan!)
i'm gonna try getting 3 sets together into a single mould in that case; i can do individual characterful conversion packs and bundle 'em together for mix and matchable sets :)
so, the Old Paladin Zombie Conversion Pack has started;
going to add a bag with Misc Stuff© in it to replace the staff bag, and i've removed the jaw and gone for an exposed brain instead :)
This is awesome, I loved Covenant but this feels even more zombieriffic! The foot is brilliant too! Looking forward to the brain too.
I love the feet and the arm. the small pieces on his main body also look great.
braaaains!
They are FREAKIN awesome!
Great brains, they make the zombie in me hungry.
Braaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnssssssss . . . are part of a healthy, balanced diet!
ZombieGym: Increase your overall health today!
vegetarian zombies eat GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSS
Cracking stuff gave, keep it up :)
What will the brain be though? Will it be just that - half a brain, requiring a bit of surgery on eisenhorn's head, or will it come moulded to it? Had you considered modelling a 54mm brain (replete with stem) and including maybe 2 or 3 per pack? Whole brains could then be cut apart and be falling out of zombie heads, or being munched on, or all manner of other exciting prospects.
Now.. how could I work zombies into my campaign? I think a better question would be, is there any reason my campaign CAN'T include zombies? ;)
The plan is to build torn skin around the edge; should be able to cut any head and fit the brain on :-)
Will do two more for inclusion, but don't think ill be able to do full brains due to size & casting issues..
so, here we are as i start the third set of pieces :)
so, starting at the top; Young Paladin (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat480007a&prodId=prod1110201&rootCatGameStyle=) conversion set; 2 arms, damaged head, destroyed weapon, torn leg detail.
Old Paladin (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat480007a&prodId=prod1110199&rootCatGameStyle=) conversion set; torn open braincase, two "spare" brains, rucksack (containing 2 datascrolls and a hand), busted up foot, bullet holes, two arms.
i've started the third set, designed to fit Tezla; while Covenants' set ages him, i'm trying to make a younger zombie tech adept :)
going for two outstretched arms and a replacement head... still debating other pieces to include :)
Rotten hands to go on the end of mechandrites! Go on :p
Looks great so far!
Perhaps a broken bionic part?
would a Tech-adept not sort of suffer from the worse case of Cognitive Dissonance as a zombie - after all, the zombie bit can only infect what remains of the man, and if he's got a bionic brain then it wouldn't that much!
If he's composed of two equal parts - man and machine - then would the zombie plague be successful?
I can just imagine a zombie Techpriest going "Cooooogggggggiiiiiitttttaaaaatttttoooorrrrrssssss".
threadomancy!
so, i've been flitting between projects as of late, but i'm finally ready for the IGT and during a reshuffle of The Desk© i've dug out these guys again :-[
so, here's where the third pack has gotten to;
the head is still well WIP; gonna build up the bionic half then add a hood :)
not sure what to add for extra bits; as it's designed for Tezla, the mechadendrites can be left limp / broken easy enough...
It looks very good, as could be expected from you. For additional parts, perhaps some tears in the robes?
Glad to see this project is not forgotten! What about a big, nice cog? Maybe something that tells us a story about how he got bitten, or what his "friends" thought of him turning?
Any idea on a price yet?
I'm thinking of starting a warband that has spent a bit too long on an infested planet!!!!
Cheers
Matt
no news as of yet; the arms are done but i'm stuck on the head. i really don't like it and after floundering around with attempts the project ground to a halt .. again :(
i had planned on casting the first two sets myself when i worked for Spartan but now i work for Triple Helix (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/AA-Wargames/Triple-Helix-Terrain-/_i.html?_fsub=3157415013&_sid=804227703&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322) and we don't have vac-facilities :(
thus i'm going to have to find a company to cast (apparently Grey Matter aren't taking work .. they did the Tech Adept) and the cash to finance upfront, so completing the pack has to be the first step...
EDIT:
here's where we are at the moment.
the Plan© was to bulk out the back of the hood (to make the cables cast into the hood for a one peice cast) and then add a tool belt / satchel to hang off the waist and maybe a tear ala the first pack onto his left leg area, but explosing armoured thigh plate...
The had is a very nice part, the face comes alive(I know, not really but still) and it fits the model very well.
You're at Triple Helix now? I have recently switched to them for paint supplies - I highly recommend them everybody!
As for the zombie techpriest, I can't help but feel that the eyes are a little too high on the face. Your face scuplting is coming on leaps and bounds however.
