Title: BoB's "stuff"
Post by: BoB on June 21, 2013, 12:34:10 PM
After hearing GW were pulling the plug on =][= I've fast-tracked some intended purchases so I can play my bit on the side, with the main period of Warmachine & Hordes tournament season winding down after the end of the month I'm hoping to devote some more time to getting my minis converted and on the table.

For starters, we have Inquisitor Gabriel,  converted by me with some GS skills from Gav afew years back:

He'll be taking a nitro mors Bath soon as a) plasma pistols are retarded, and b) I need the bits for another intended conversion.

So, on to some newer stuff.  While I was waiting for minis to arrive I made a start on some bases, here's before and after paint.  Nothing too time consuming but they look decent enough, especially considering how quick and easy they are to paint up.

The flat strips were going to be hazard stripes but I need to work out a quick and easy (and straight) way of doing them.

First model I'm working on is one of three cultists for a Chaos Magos / Magister I'm hoping to convert from Tyrus.  All three cultists will hopefully be ugly in their own unique way :)

My green stuffing skills leaves a lot to be desired, but this will hopefully be a good learning experience, albeit slow going.  With this one I'm hoping to emulate slick devlan's padded armour, I've got as far as the straps on his sides and one of the shoulder pads.

I'm already realising it would be good to get the basics of the other 2 cultists built so I can be working with the GS on the others while its curing on another.

With some luck I'll keep this updated as I go :)

Welcome to the Conclave

^ it's traditional

We're fairly quite these days, but we're still passionate so it's always nice to see someone new!

i likes the bases.. do another set! *cough*casting*cough* ;)

what're your plans for the arms on the mutant?

i like Gabriel; he could do with a few more of those stud-strips and as you say, plasmaweapons are pants-on-head but on the whole i'd keep him!

Will be doing some more bases when I can get to the model centre for treadplate plasticard again :) (used my last bit knocking out 12 for Lance).

This guy will have a shotgun, straight sub in of quovandius' arms (with some pinning / gap filling), debating giving him a bandolier of shotgun shells around his torso once I've got the padded armour done.  Have some ideas for covering up the messy filing around the neck but need to size up the cultist heads before I go ahead.

Definitely keeping the elements of Gabriel that I like, looking at studding somewhere and definitely redo the shades, they're a nice touch (and mean I don't have to paint his eyes).

Out of curiosity, how'd you get such perfect circles of plasticard for your bases? Mine always seem to come out irregular.

By the way, love the paint job on the Covenant-based model, both grim and dark.

Bases are fairly easy, glue the base directly to the sheet of plasticard (with polycement, needs to melt and not be brittle like superglue would be).  Let it cure, score round the edge of the base with a scalpel, snap it off and then go round the edges with a file (I go round the base once with a flat file and then again with a round file to soften the filing,  sometimes it leaves a course texture behind).

Needs to be polycement otherwise as soon as you start filing the plasticard lifts if you've used superglue.

This is as far as I've got this evening;

GS work down by the belt needs some trimming, or something,  or covering in pouches  :P

nice clean work :)
i'd give it 20 mins or so, then try peeling the bottom corners up slightly; stand him as if his feet were on a base; without straps would the flak plate hang that way?

keep up the good work :D

In hindsight looks like I didn't pack the belly out enough as its pretty much hugging his torso (flak vest minus the plates):

Still, food for thought for next time, thanks! :D

Gonna check out Firestorm games' offerings in terms of sculpting tools tomorrow.

A nice start, with some good sculpting work.  I've got to ask why you changed Slick's torso for Damien's, only to make it look the same as what was there before (albeit a bit taller)?

Slick's torso is being used with Quovandius' legs, was a nice easy sub in :)

Plus the implant detail on his back differentiates him a little further from Slick.

Cool.  Slick's torso and Quovandius's legs do work well together.  Looking forward to seeing that one too.
