Title: Persian lions gene seed
Post by: Inquisitor Ranovack on October 13, 2009, 05:16:41 PM
The Persian Lions are a chapter i made up and for more info look on the deathwatch reborn un the out of charactor section.

However i had an idea about their gene seed. Officially they are founded from the raven gaurd but in secet experimentation the gene seed of the raven gaurd and that of the space wolves were combined to try and overcome some of the short falls in the gene seed following the heresy. After the experiment most of the test subject either died or had such horrible side effects that they had to be killed. However 4 of the subjects were vagly succesful. in 1 the raven gaurd overcame the Space wolves gene seed. 1 another it was the other way round. In the other 2 however the experiment was successful and from these 2 the Persian lions were formed

Any suggestions about this or any objecions please put them down :)

Generally I would expect any Chapter that uses Gene-Seed that has been tinkered with in this manner to be from the 21st 'Cursed' Founding. As the epithet suggests the chapters of this Founding all suffer bad luck in one way or another so if this is the route you choose to take I would seriously expect that the Persian Lions have something wrong with them.

If you just want to say you have a perfectly normal Chapter with the marines being no better or worse than those marines of other 'normal' chapters then really there is no point having a mixed Gene-Seed at all. If you do give them mixed Gene-Seed then they need to have a flaw even if it is just bad luck. This could be offset by some beneficial mutation but really these chapters are all about the Curse.

EDIT: You may like to take a look at TV Tropes (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CursedWithAwesome).

Doesn't make a lot of sense for tne High Lords of Terra to sanction the monkeying of the Space Wolf gene-seed. Though the Space Wolves are a loyal and successful chapter, thier gene-seed is very flawed thanks to the unstable Canis Helix. I think it would be more likely that experimentation would be done with Space Wolf OR Raven Guard strands to eliminate the flaws, not both, which if anything would end up with an albino fanged monster

That could well be the curse, the random degeneration of a marine into a hideous monster. I've an alien character loosely based on the following picture but I think it would work equally well in a suit of power armour.

I like this idea i could just imagine one marine in every X turning into a sort of Albino berserker mutant. Probably something like a wulfren due to the space wolves connection.  so thanks. Also I think that more marines pick up an irrational hatred of a type of enemy
Eg peleus and the Tau.(again see Deathwatch reborn OOC)
of course they all share the hatred of the Traitor legions and all those who turned their back on the Emperers light

Thanks :)

PS. If anyone has any more objections/ideas please feel free to add them

I always thought it was the admech who did the work with geneseeds (watching for mutations and founding new chapters) I can easily see this being a high ranking magos' pet project/experiment. Always adds character if the characters are unwanted or exiled as abominations.

Anyway sounds good to me and good luck
