The briefing pack can be found here:
http://darkmagenta.co.uk/IGT09_briefing_pack.pdf
Tickets are £10 in advance until 30 Nov, or £12 on the door.
Lunch is a choice of a range of pizzas (vegetarian feast, pepperoni, spicy chicken, spicy beef) at £6.95 for a 12" pizza. Please let me know which you would like and whether you want a whole pizza to yourself or to share one with someone else (I'll try to match up sharers). Alternatively, you are welcome to bring your own lunch.

ZING!! ;D thanks
well, i was able to make it, but work just changed the rota :'(
arguing (with European Legislation on my side) to try and attend ::)
Right, that's shortly after the end of term, but I have an eye appointment around that date. I'll check when it is, but I'm hoping I can come along.
i knew it was too good to last. first one i'll have missed in a few years. still at uni on the 12th.
curses!
Stop telling me you can't come and start sending me your money! For heaven's sake, people. ::)
R.
The theory being that once we've paid for it, we'll find a way to get there? ;)
Nice idea, but if I cancel on the doctors they'll put back my contact lens fitting until Easter. Honestly though, if it isn't the same day I'll be there.
I should e able to come if I can get transport and my Brother can get the modals down from Edinborouh.
I must warn you though i havent played much so i might be a bit slow.
thats if i can go.

damnit! now i gotta find my chequebook!
and there's postal strikes!
That's what PayPal is for!
R.
wanna give i some details; 's not in the pack :(
sorry just found out i cant come
I can come: I break up the day before.
I may also be coming with some people from my local GW, depending interest.
Do we have to pay in advance, or can we pay on the day?
S
I'm in.
You can pay on the day but, as previously mentioned, I'm limiting the day to a maximum of 24 places.
You can email PayPal payments to precinctomega [at] googlemail [dot] com or post cheques to the usual address.
I'm going mad at the moment, trying to sell my house.

plus if there's not enough pre-bookings we risk it not happening at all?
c'mon peeps! cough up! :)
Right, just had a chat with Warhammer World and there's good news and bad news.
The good news all comes from WHW.
First, our event is running in parallel with Jervis Johnson's exclusive invitational. The only reason we get to go ahead is because I made the booking over ten months ago, otherwise we'd have been shut out. So if you want another chance to meet Jervis and quite a few other luminaries from the Studio, this is your golden opportunity, as well as a shining chance to show the Studio powers-that-be that Inquisitor is alive and kicking and desperate for attention!
Second (still good news) is that the parallel event gives us a chance to get in on the catering. This will mean we will know exactly when our food is ready and there won't be any queueing (I'm told that reaching the bar in Bugman's at lunchtime on this day may, actually, be impossible).
Now the slightly bad news:
First, you're going to have to pay extra for the lunch. I don't know how much yet, nor do I know the menu. However, the more people who come, the less I'll have to charge for lunch. If I get a full complement of 24 people, lunch will be free. More info as it's available.
Second, I'm giving the pre-registration two more week, from today. If I have fewer than ten registrations by 29 Nov 09, I'm going to cancel the event and refund all payments. I am going to get out onto the other forums with a bit more aggression over this fortnight, but I'm having trouble with my documentation. Is there anyone out there who could modify the PDF document for me, according to some simple instructions? I only need to make a few changes, but I don't have the software to modify PDFs and I can't locate the original Word file. I just don't have time to type it all out again!
Finally, just so we're clear: so far I have two registrations. That's it. Two. Thank you Gav and Kaled. But these guys are going to get their money back if I don't get any more.
R.
I'll be able to pay soon next week, the only question being how many people who will also come.
Free Lunch you say...
EVERYONE:PAY AS SOON AS YOU CAN. ;D
I have to say I'm rather surprised by the lack of enthusiasm this year - especially after last year which was very successful. I wonder if the 'tournament' label is putting some of the newer players off? The atmosphere for the day is far from being hyper-competitive and generally everyone is there to have fun. It's certainly not an event where loads of experience is a pre-requisitie - in fact, I'd played less than half a dozen games when I attended the tournament in 2007. As long as you go in with the right attitude and are prepared to have fun and play your characters in an interesting way rather than just trying to slaughter the opposition then you'll do just fine. The tournament in 2007 was also my first experience of GMing a game - the experience was somewhat nerve-wracking at first, but I just played a simple scenario and let the players get on with things (I probably didn't get many points in that round, but there are plenty of points on offer elsewhere) - so certainly don't worry about being an inexperienced GM.
If anyone is considering coming along but wants to know a bit more about the event before they hand over their money, just ask - there are plenty of people who have attended the event in the past who would, I'm sure, be happy to answer your questions.
Given that Jervis and co are going to be there, it'd be a shame if the event didn't take place - as PO says, this is a perfect opportunity to remind the studio that Inquisitor is still a well-loved game with dedicated players.
Damn my cousin and his ridiculous choice of date for his wedding!
Showing off how popular Inquisitor is to the studio powers would be super awesome. Chatting with Jervis and Gav Thorpe last year was pretty cool. They seemed impressed by our rampant enthusiasm!
I don't know if there is a lack of enthusiasm for the IGT this year, I think it's more that some of us old regulars can't go this year. I'm unavailable, I know that Adam Cunis can't go either, plus I'm sure a couple more of us have stuff on too. Losing even five of us is a huge impact on the event. Procrastination is probably having an impact on pre-bookings, but that's been a constant of the last few events. I just hope the threat of it being called off will spur some people into action!
Properly gutted I'm having to give it a miss this year,
Ruaridh
Put me down as a maybe - I'll need to conferr with the Matriarch to see what day she's picking my stuff up from uni at the end of term.
... Right, I guess I'd better get my arse in gear and start trying to see if I can get myself organised then (no promises yet though).
If I am going to make an appearance and a decent performance, I'll need to get thinking on my scenario. I've not run a stand-alone game in ages, especially not one where I haven't any clue about the characters involved long in advance or where there's a particular time limit.
Thinking is needed.
After receiving the network reminder, I have made arrangements to make it down there. Put me down as a definate, Robey. But I'll probably be unable to pay for the tickets until the day (if any are left that is).
Unfortunately, I can't count "I'll definitely be there" against the minimum registrations.
R.
Right, postal order it is then...
My chances of being able to come have shot up substantially, what with my eye appointment moving forward. Unfortunately this is because my vision has been deteriorating in my one good eye, but every cloud, eh?
As soon as my PayPal account gets reactivated, I'll try to get my booking in.
Oh, and Marco - get booked, then think of a scenario. Even a "you both want this book. Go." scenario is better than the whole thing being called off, and so far there's not many down. Besides, you have plenty of time to think.
So, if all goes well, we could have:
Gav
Kaled
The_fire_cleans
Macabre
Adlan
Me
Marco
RobSkib
At least 2 more to get in two weeks. Doesn't sound infeasible.
i'm working on bringing a local player; haven't seen him online today to see if hes prebooked yet :P
Quote from: Simeon Blackstar on November 16, 2009, 12:23:45 AMOh, and Marco - get booked, then think of a scenario.
No, the scenario isn't the reason why I can't get booked immediately.
I've got range tests for an experimental projectile design (I'll spare you the finer details) scheduled over that weekend. There was an alternate weekend that was proposed in January (I think it was the 16-17th), which is more convenient from some perspectives, but I can't yet be entirely certain about whether moving things is viable.
Unfortunately, the notes I had on why we originally chose 12-13th Dec are AWOL with my laptop. Either way, I'll see what can happen - I should know in time.
In the end, the scenario is just something I'll want to put thinking time into in advance. Yeah, a bog-standard "Get the Artefact first" scenario could work - but I'd rather GM something a bit more interesting, and I'm sure people would rather
play something more interesting.
...Hey, if I'm showing up, I might as well at least try for a reasonable score.
Quotehaven't seen him online today to see if hes prebooked yet
He has. And I might fix things so that I can play. Any volunteers to help me with the rules pack, then?

Mark me down as a definitely probably be there! I'll get the money to you tomorrow Robey. Couple of quickies: What time does it start, and what time does it end?
Starts at 10. Ends at 6. And, for information, I have, so far, a grand total of four pre-registrations: three by PayPal and one by mail.
So all of you "I'll definitely be there" people need to do something about paying for your tickets (which, incidentally, are virtual this year, to keep costs down, so don't expect a ticket in the post) or I'll be calling this event off this week.
R.
c'mon people! i now have to work on Boxing Day and New Years Day to get the 12th off!
plus PO threw a great tourney last year; everyone had fun :)
OK, OK, I relent.
A number of people have now contacted me to say that they absolutely, definitely will be there on the day but that, for various reasons, they cannot give me the money right now.
I will believe them purely on the grounds that, if they do turn up, they get to pay the higher fee of £12 on the day and I should break even and be able to offer decent prize support.
STOP PRESS: The near-legendary Arbitrator Bob has recently been in touch to say that he, too, will be coming this year. So to meet perhaps the one man who stands a chance of taking on Dave "Kaled" Knowles in a head-for-head for the ultimate prize, you'll need to be there on the day!
However, I do need to be able to give Bugman's numbers for lunch so, if you want to get fed, please send an email to precinctomega [at] googlemail [dot] com including all of the details required in the Briefing Pack, and any special dietary requirements.
THIS IS IMPORTANT.
If I don't know you're coming, I can't organize food and you won't get any. It will NOT - repeat NOT be possible to order food at the bar on the day. Got that?
Finally, I have emailed Gav the amendments for the Briefing Pack, so hopefully that will be updated very soon.
R.
I'll bring my own food this time (I remember the waiting time for food in spring). I'm no longer going to say that I'll be there, because everytime I make commitments, fate intervenes and dictates otherwise.
I've been looking at journey times.

Not quite four hours each way, but it's a long drive for me too, and there are plenty of people who travel from further afield. Another option is to look at hotel and B&Bs - you might be able to find something cheap that'll allow you to stop off en-route.
DO IT. it is so worth it mate. I am so jealous of everyone who can make it this year.

I'm coming from Middlesbrough, you have no excuse!
OK, this year's briefing pack is up. Main changes are in the links and the scores have been rejigged to favour playing and GMing more over painting and the Inquisition, on the grounds that these should be seen more as a way of distinguishing between otherwise equal players rather than as decisive rounds in their own right.

Payment Sent, sorry it's late, :( housemates lame for paying me back, stupid bills.
I'm pretty happy, now, that I should have at least ten players. But I've only had three pizza orders. Unless I get your order, you won't get lunch unless you bring it with you.
You've got until Monday, then I'm putting in the order.
I'm also going to drop a few of our tables, as we don't seem to have enough players to occupy 9. So if you're still hedging your bets, now's the time to speak up!
R.
I'm in for lunch. Are you just looking for numbers right now, or is there something else I need to do?
Put me down for pizza! How much is it?
did i order lunch? if not, do they do cheeseburgers? :-[

Put me down for a whole pepperoni please - I might be bringing along one or two non-conclave friends, so if they do come, they can share with me.
Well, I've only had food orders from six people (including Gav's order of no food at all). So the rest of you had better plan on bringing packed lunches!
I am expecting a reasonable turnout. If we manage the same numbers as last year I'll be surprised, but let's hope, eh?
The lack of pre-registrations has meant that my ambition of investing in a permanent trophy has been stymied. But if enough people turn up on the day, I will try to put the money aside to cover the "Gallery of Fame" I previously discussed.
R.
I'll be moving out of my term-time address that day, so driving over from Middlesbrough on saturday morning might take a bit of time - I'm looking at arriving at midday earliest, would that screw things up too much?
It would screw up your chances of winning, certainly, but feel free to arrive late. You pay the same fee.

I'll have to say not. It's actually quite poorly designed, and gets unpleasant to wear for any particular length of time. I'm not even entirely sure where it is.
Just a quickie, do we have to have the scorecards printed out, or will we be supplied them? My access to a printer is somewhat limited over the next 24 hours!

I'd like to second the thanks-the day was a lot of fun all round. In honour of a particularly dramatic moment, here is a short Haiku-
Poor noble Marech
Noone till the end could see
Your brave heart of fire
A day that I very much enjoyed, even if I only performed mediocrely.
I shall be turning the notes and pictures I took into various reports over the next few days, so look out for those.
Must say I'm pleased to see that set aside the cathedral for you guys, perfect for Inquisitor. They'd hidden it away the last time I was down (Spring Conclave 09).
Another Haiku:

Next year I'll budget ahead better. I started putting the warband's leader back together yesterday in honour of the missed tournament.
The collection of photos I took. Some of them are flawed photos, but they're up here anyway.
IGT 2009 Photos (http://s772.photobucket.com/albums/yy3/MarcoSkoll/IGT%202009%20Photos/)
Feel free to use them as you please.
Just browsed some of the pics from the day and it looks like it was a fantastic event. :D
To add to the odd things which Marco does with his spare time, I offer this...
Hanja vs. Liwet (http://s772.photobucket.com/albums/yy3/MarcoSkoll/IMG_2436edited.jpg), compared to the Original (http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/yy3/MarcoSkoll/IGT%202009%20Photos/IMG_2436.jpg)
I recall PO commenting about dice in photos at the IGT because "it makes it look like a game, rather than a scene" (or words to that effect), to which my somewhat sarcastic response was "That's what Photoshop's for". Either way, I decided to follow up on that statement and ran with the idea, extracting any obvious indicators of the game - dice, bases, terrain edges and all.
It's not perfect, but I wasn't going for a masterpiece - it was mostly an experiment into the feasibility of such a thing.
...I quite like it. Although, if I'm doing it again, I'll have to try and take photos without using the flash so I can get more natural lighting.
Very nice work Marco. Out of curiousity, how long did it take you to do that?
Genius!
Great pictures all. Love the photoshop work. I've just noticed the objective globe from the final scenario I played is all glowy when the flash is used :).
Quote from: Kaled on December 20, 2009, 11:17:34 AMOut of curiosity, how long did it take you to do that?
Depends on the part of the image.
Removing the edges of terrain, hiding dice and other similar stuff is a few seconds. Removing the bases is the lengthiest process, as it involves getting a cut out of the base, then searching for something to take the place of the base*, then blending it all in.
*What you see under Hanja's base is actually more or less what's actually there - I found a good picture of the area from a similar angle to cut in. The other bases were replaced by whatever parts I could find amongst the other photos to copy.I guess it took a couple of hours total, but part of that was experimenting with different techniques. If I got into the swing of things, I figure less than an hour is possible - less again if it were a simpler photograph.
I'm planning on giving one or two of the other photos I took a similar treatment, so I'll see how long those take.
More of the shop of the photo...
Orla vs. Lyra (http://s772.photobucket.com/albums/yy3/MarcoSkoll/IMG_2404edited.jpg) - compared to the original. (http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/yy3/MarcoSkoll/IGT%202009%20Photos/IMG_2404.jpg)
This one did take longer, partly because there were more bases to remove, and also because I went a little over the top on the effects for Orla's energy blade.
Lightsabers were one of the first things I learnt to do in Photoshop, and something I quite enjoy doing, but I wanted to take the energy blade further than that. The background for the Sollex-Aegis energy blade makes me think of something much less subtle with a very raw and scarcely contained power.
So, I figured on it being much brighter than the contained and dull glow of a lightsaber - which gave me the opportunity to do lots of shadows and highlights.
Again, a few flaws (some of the old shadows didn't want to be completely excised, among other things) - but I'm no master of Photoshop.
This is actually quite fun, taking these scenes and re-envisioning them.
and good job *applaud* the more you do with Liwet the better ;D
so, next event we can expect you taking a horde of photos of the boards first, then ingame to enable the layering to be easier? :D
That's awesome! I imagine we might be able to find some work for you retouching some photos for Dark Magenta if you're interested...
Just called by girlfriend over to show her your picture and she pointed at Kai and asked what Buzz Lightyear was doing hiding behind a pillar! ;D
Very nice.
Well, it's nice to hear you lot like it. It started as little more than a way of spending an hour or so - then I fell in to the whole thing. I'm no master of art (in whatever form), but I can get very wrapped up in it and lose hours.
Quote from: Kaled on December 20, 2009, 10:16:56 PMI imagine we might be able to find some work for you retouching some photos for Dark Magenta if you're interested...
Sure, anything to help.
... I'm not much more than a casual amateur though. I'll only be too happy to help where I can, but my limits are finite. All that said - I

Actually, on the note of Dark Magenta, I have got to get back to the things I was getting written up as potential articles. I keep forgetting about them (as I'm reasonably sure I've said before).
Quote...she pointed at Kai and asked what Buzz Lightyear was doing hiding behind a pillar!

(Damn it, I need to follow that with a serious face smiley.)Quote from: greenstuff_gav on December 20, 2009, 10:13:14 PMso, next event we can expect you taking a horde of photos of the boards first?
Unlikely. You might find me taking more photos, but I can't say what areas I'll need photos of in advance. In the end, if I've taken enough photos, then odds are good that I'll have the necessary stuff anyway.
In the end, I'm not planning on giving every photo I take the Photoshop treatment - many aren't suitable, some don't have quite the right poses to be worth it (although a few might work well with a few minor digital pose tweaks), some are out of focus, some have the details too small... and there's just too damn many of them anyway.
But I suspect you'll see more of this kind of stuff at some point in the future anyway.
