Title: Chronicles of the Carthaxian Conclave
Post by: Kaled on November 17, 2009, 05:42:14 PM
Evening all,

As discussed here (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=344.0), this thread is a place for people to record the exploits of their characters as they use them in games.  Feel free to post your reports in any style you like (inquisitorial reports, transcribed vox records, short pieces of fiction etc), but please try to stick to the following guidelines;

I've created an outline for a sector as a starting point, but don't feel you have to use it if you want to set your games elsewhere.  Feel free to create (and destroy!) and worlds, characters or institutions needed for your games, but please refrain from interfering with anything created by someone else (unless you have their permission).  Remember you're telling the story of your characters, not that of your opponent's.  So for example, your character can declare he believes that an opposing character is a heretic, but don't declare that your opponent's character has been declared Excommunicate Hereticus by the Carthaxian Conclave and is being hunted across the Imperium (unless, of course, your opponent agrees).

Likewise while it's fine to despose a sub-sector governor, execute a heretical cardinal, or destroy the odd planet; don't take it so far as to do things that would affect other people's stories.  So don't kill off the entire sector government and plunge it into chaos, or assassinate the head of the Carthaxian Conclave etc.  My plan is that some of these larger events can be played out at things like the Spring Conclave.  For example, I have an idea for a one day campaign based on the politics and intrigue surrounding Lord Grolin's death and the race to succeed him.

Finally, try not to worry about inconsistencies and contradictions - after all, Everything you have been told is a lie.

Be seeing you
- Dave

The Carthax sector is located on the edge of Imperial space in the Segmentum Pacificus. The region was rediscovered during the Great Crusade by Rogue Trader Aniel Hydronus <See file MER-1172-h>, and was subsequently brought into compliance by the Ultramarine Legion <See file AST-5163-y>. The Carthaxian Conclave is based at the Inquisitorial Fortress on Pillarus Prime. The Inquisition also maintains satellite fortresses on a number of other worlds within the sector <See file INQ-7422-a> as well as facilities run by each of the Ordos <See file INQ-9631-t>. There are also innumerable safe-houses, laboratories, fortresses and other stations operated by Inquisitorial cells, cabals and individual Inquisitors.

The Carthaxian Conclave is currently headed by Lord Inquisitor Grolin, ably assisted by the Masters of the Ordos Malleus, Hereticus, Xenos, Sepulturum and Sicarius. Given the vast size of the sector, much of his authority is devolved to the sub-sector...

- The Succession -

The Carthaxian Conclave is becoming increasingly divided. Lord Inquisitor Grolin's health is deteriorating but so far no clear successor has been identified and a number of possible candidates are attempting to manoeuvre themselves into positions of power and influence. For now, Lord Inquisitor Grolin is maintaining his grip on the conclave, but it is unclear how much longer this can continue. <See file CCR-4851-s>.

- The Hastor Incident -

The abatement of the warp storms that had isolated Hastor, home to an ancient Inquisitorial Fortress, and the rumours of the priceless technology contained within drew a number of Inquisitors, Mechanicus Magi, and assorted treasure seekers to the planet. There they discovered a dozen stones, each with the power to heal any injury and even to restore the dead to life. The supreme potential of these artefacts was not lost on the protagonists, especially those representing ressurrectionist factions and their opponents.

Perhaps inevitably, the bitter rivalries turned to violence and in the ensuing battle Inquisitor Kaled was gunned down and left for dead. Fortunately, members of his team were able to revive him using the arcane powers of a Hastor Stone, and together they escaped with a second stone. Inquisitor Necris had similar success and also obtained a Hastor Stone, however he was able to escape the battle unharmed.

Returning to his ship, Inquisitor Kaled called in a battlefleet under the command of Admiral Goodchild and obliterated the ancient fortress to ensure its ancient secrets would no longer be able to threaten the stability of the Imperium. However in the confusion, it is believed that a couple more stones were stolen by unidentified parties.

Addendum: Since the Hastor Incident, Inquisitor Kaled is believed to have amassed a collection of other relics and ancient artefacts. In the Process he has clashed with other eminent parties within the sector including Magos Excus, Inquisitor Hunter Rex and Adept Stein <see file GGF-7232-d (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=25.0)>. It is unknown at this time what Kaled's intentions are with these artefacts; however his actions merit further examination.

Addendum : it was observed during the Hastor Incident that Inquisitor Necris displayed strange abilities focussing on his right arm, some speculated that Necris himself was in possession of a daemon weapon, the evidence of this has been lost as it is now apparent that Necris possesses a bionic replacement that was not present during the Hastor Incident. Necris has also amassed a collection of artefacts and texts on heretical subjects.

- The Grundig Affair -

The Inquisitor who goes by the alias 'Red Queen' was one of a number of members of the Holy Ordos drawn into The Grundig Affair by the machinations of the infamous Istvaanian, Inquisitor Kor Grundig. During one of the early confrontations, a figure believed to be 'Red Queen' was eviscerated by a foul mutant in the employ of one of his rivals. Since then, the activities of Red Queen have continued across the sector, and it must be concluded that the figure who was killed was an agent of the Inquisitor.

During the Grundig Affair Necris was reported to have used excessive force when dealing with civilians, after suffering a betrayal at the hands of Inquisitor Nemesov he dedicated his time in both pursuing Nemesov to bring him to justice, Nemesov however escape after setting off a reactor meltdown which prevented Necris from pursuing him. Red Queen also came into conflict with Necris on several occasions during this affair.

- The Sicarius Schism -

In recent months events have come to light indicating a schism within the ranks of the secretive Ordo Sicarius. An assassination attempt was made on Inquisitors Necris and Hanja, one which bore all the hallmarks of being carried out by an Ordo Sicarius operative. Initially suspicion fell on the Inquisitor known as Red Queen, a mysterious and shadowy figure within the Ordo Sicarius, although later reports indicated that he too was investigating the misuse of Sicarius operatives by other members of his Ordo. When it came to light that Inquisitor Necris had in his employ a renegade Officio assassin, Necris holds in his possession an Ordo Sicarius dossier on potential targets, included in the names is Inquisitor Hanja.

Although grievously wounded, Necris survived the assassination attempt and has sworn to unmask Red Queen and remove his influence from the Carthaxian Conclave.

- The Ostrakov Affair Rekindled -

A disturbing series of reports have indicated that the Arch-Radical, Vladimir Ostrakov, has returned.  It is reported that he clashed with Magos Rowne outside the Church of Saint Drusath, rumoured resting place of an ancient and powerful artefact.  Mere days later he and his associates were discovered attempting to excavate an Eldar device from the sands below the Garion Outpost.  On both occasions, members of the Carthaxian Conclave were successful in halting his operations, but Ostrakov managed to escape - his current whereabouts is unknown.

Ostrakov's mastery of the dark arts appears to have increased substantially since he was last seen.  At Garion he was reportedly accompanied by two daemonhosts (tentatively identified as Elphaba and Nimros) and appeared to be carrying a daemonsword.  Ostrakov's ultimate objective is unknown, but all members of the Conclave are requested to report any sightings or leads, no matter how tenuous, to Lord Grolin.

- The Gaugtel Expedition -

Reports have reached the Conclave from a number of Inquisitors who have clashed with Explorator-Magos Vaal Kryzak.  Kryzak's expedition to the Gaugtel Stars is marshalling in orbit around Jodrun III, however rumours abound that Kryzak has been dealing in proscribed xeno-tech and these have hampered the start of the expedition.  Attempts have been made to capture Kryzak by both Inquisitor Valka <see file R-253-ASD-1 (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=21.0)> and Inquisitor Hanja <see file R-384-HDF-9 (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=218.0)>, however both have so far been unsuccessful.  Kryzak has powerful allies both within and outside the Adeptus Mechanicus, and Lord Grolin requests that members of the Conclave tread carefully in their dealings with Kryzak so as not to create a potentially damaging rift between the Conclave and the Adepts of Mars.

- Inquisitor Viktor Cushing, Ordo Sepulturum -

<See file JHF-7272-f (http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?t=21112)>

Recently arrived in the sector is Inquisitor Viktor Cushing, of the fledgling Ordo Sepulturum.  Cushing's vessel, the Azure Dictum, is equipped to operate as a mobile laboratory and medicae facility, and he is accompanied by numerous medicae staff as well as contingent of the Sisters of the Eternal Candle.  Military support for his operations is provided by a detachment of Inquisitorial Stormtroopers.

Soon after joining the Carthaxian Conclave, Cushing was involved in the attempted capture of Viceroy Khonig Gronemeyer.  Although Gronemeyer slipped through his fingers, disappearing in the Swamps of Avatorg; Cushing was able to detain the rogue Magos Feytor when Feytor's bionic brain overloaded attempting to psychically assault Trooper Yeovil who was protected by the wards tattooed on his skull.  It is not known what, if any, information Cushing was able to extract from Feytor, but it is thought that Feytor is no longer in custody.

- Entym Hydronus, Rogue Trader -

Reports suggest that the Rogue Trader, Entym Hydronus, intends to use the sector as a staging post for his expedition into the Velorgth Expanse.  House Hydronus is hugely influential in the neighbouring Pohl Sector, where the family controls a vast trading empire and hs Governorship of several worlds.  It is recommended that members of the Conclave scrutinise Hydronus's activities for evidence his party may have become tainted by their travels outside of His glorious Imperium.

++query:Nemesov++
Inquisitor Richard Nemesov (it is believed that this identity is a pseudonym and of his career prior to taking on the rank of Inquisitor no information is known) was, for some time, one of the Carthaxian Sector's most wanted criminals.

His operations under the auspices of the Conclave were brough to a halt within a few years of his arrival in the sector, on the instruction of Inquisitor Lady Kang-Ju Ki [deceased] and Nemesov himself issued in absentia with a carta extremis, calling him to account for a number of shocking incidents in his previous area of operations.  Lady Ki was given tabula rasa in his pursuit until, in a bloody confrontation, she was shot and killed by Nemesov.

Nemesov's time at large, however, was curtailed by Inquisitor Nathaniel Carter, whose reputation in the Conclave should have been assured by the prodigious success of bringing the renegade in alive.  However, to date Carter has not handed Nemesov over to the Conclave authorities and his current status is unknown.

++query: Enobarbus, Zoltan++
First dispatched to the Carthaxian Sector, ostensibly at the behest of the Inner Circle of the Ordo Hereticus itself, to oversee a routine mutant purge, Inquisitor Zoltan Enobarbus has yet to explain the circumstances that see him remaining ex officio in the sector.

Although not personally present at the Hastor Incident, he was the first to bring Hastor to the attention of the Carthaxian Conclave.  Whether his intervention prevented or precipitated the resulting confrontation is hotly debated to this day.  However, there is no question that he was at the heart of the Venixian Schism and was one of the few of the sector's power brokers drawn to those events to have walked away apparently unscathed.  He refuses to answer the Conclave's questions relating to the events that took place inside the ancient techno-depository of Venix, but observers have noted that his attentions have lately fallen more particularly on the Adeptus Mechanicus and its various forgeworlds since the Schism.

Recent arrivals to reinforce the Holy Orders of the Carthaxian Conclave from the Ordo Hereticus, however, have shone new light upon Enobarbus and his background.  For it transpires that it was not at the behest of the Hereticus that Enobarbus moved his base of operations to Carthax, but rather in direct opposition to their directives.  A summons to explain himself to the Conclave has been issued but, so far, Enobarbus has excused himself from appearing.

++query: Rowne, Magos, Mechanicus+++
-Magos Berith Rowne, Adeptus Mechanicus

Magos Rowne arrived originally in the Carthax Sector to aid the construction of life-support aids for Lord inquisitor Grolin; Rowne being renown for his knowledge and mastery over the flesh.
However, politics (some whisper of agents wishing Lord Inquisitor Grolin's demise...) intervened and Rowne spent several weeks waiting for an audience. He instead traveled to the Garion Outpost, hearing of powerful artifacts being discovered.
During several clashes with Inquisitorial Agents, Rowne aided in the destruction of the Dig Site, his hatred of the Xenos giving him drive and he barely escaped, suffering several wounds and the loss of many of his retinue <see file GSG-31009-V (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=268.0)>.
Magos Rowne would appear to have a fear of termination; he has enlisted aid from Tech Adept Stein, noted for his work with bionic enhancements and Tech Adept Liwet, rumour circulating of experiments with cloning.

++end query++
++query: Tech Adept Liwet+++

-Tech Adept Agatha Liwet, Archeotechnologist

Tech Adept Liwet is known for a somewhat caviler attitude quite different from many of the Mechanicus' agents.
While her father was a stereotypical Explorator and her mother an Imperial Guardsman assigned to his retinue, a childhood being raised by a squad of hardened veterans left as much of an impression on the young girl as did her father's (and later, her Mechanicus training) teachings.
With an innate ability for repair, Adept Liwet has been spotted in several conflicts across the galaxy; from aiding the defenders of Armageddon Prime, uttering curses and soothing litanies for the artillery mounts to fighting alongside the Tau to gain their trust and samples of their technology for study.
Her "shoot first, shoot second, shoot some more and then ask questions" methodology has led to her often working with more technologically gifted members of the Mechanicus; Adept Liwet procures artifacts and leaves the analysis to those with more patience.
With such a resume, it is unsurprising she has gravitated to the Carthax Sector. She has been seen in the company of Magos Rowne, despite their opposing views on Xenos technology.

++query:Inquisitor Krackensmith++
This member of the Ordo Hereticus only arrived in the sector recently, making a proclemation to the Carthaxian Conclave that he was here to hunt out "the most traitorous" Inquisitor Vendile, whom he believed to have fled to the region. Krackensmiths pressence has been noted, but he has found no influence or support for his hunt yet. This is mostly because he has been unable to produce any evidence to suggest that Inquisitor Vendile is actually in the sector, nor of exactly what Vendile is meant to have done wrong - although a handful Inquisitors in the region have at least heard the name before. Other than his stated goal and his psychic ability; nothing is really known of Krackensmith by any members of the conclave yet.

++query:Inquisitor Itholian++
Well recognised in the southern regions of the Segmentum Pacificus, this Ordo Xeno member has had impressive success in erradicating Ork and Genestealer infestations and in dealing with other xenos matters  in his short career (most famously the Kordoxan ceasefire <See file SPX-8330-d>). It is known that he regularily uses his blood connection to the powerful segmentum-wide Itholik trading family to transport he and his staff across systems and sectors.
Officially he is stated to be hunting out illegal xenos artifacts to pass on to the Mechanicus. However this has caused some upset as it would appear that the various artifacts he has secured so far have been sent to a forge world outside the Carthaxian Sector, leading some Inquisitors and many members of the Mechanicum to take note of his future actions in this regard.
Whilst is it not officially recorded which forge world the artifacts have been sent to, it is beileved to be the homeworld of the Techpriest in Itholians staff.

++incidence report++

An individual closely matching the description of inquisitor Lok Andreseyn was spotted among the attackers in a pirate raid upon an imperial garrison.  The last known location of Lok was the Feeng Alpha system, quarantined under his authority, over a decade previously, and his official status is currently under review.  An investigator has been dispatched to confirm Lok's identity and, if possible, his state of mind.

It is recommended that further resources are placed on standby to limit the collateral damage of his.... activities.  A full background check of the victims is also recommended.  Lok has been right in the past.

- The Hastor Incident Continued -

At the close of the battle at the centre of the Hastor labyrinth, Inquisitor Kaled lay close to death, having been shot in the head and fallen from a high tower...

+++

Kaled's eyes flicked open, his breath that was shallow and ragged returned to normal, "Lillith?"
"Yes sir. The stone it...".
"I understand. Where are the others?" Life was returning to his limbs, he felt good, stronger than ever.
"Gone. I'm not sure why or where, some fled others just seemed to disappear." She reached out her hand to help him to his feet.
"And Konrad?" He stood, he could feel the energy from the stone flowing through his veins.
"He's down, but I think he'll live if we can get him back to the ship in time. Or I could use this..." She opened a hand revealing a second glowing stone.
"No. We don't fully understand their power, I can't take the chance. We must get back, the others can't be allowed to leave this place with those stones. Too much time has been lost already. Signal the fleet, tell the Admiral to come in firing and destroy any ships still in the system."
"What about our allies?" she enquired, "We'd have never made it this far without them."
"Allies? They know too much, and if they have one of those stones we can't let them leave. No... they too must be sacrificed." He looked around, a couple of the glowing stones still remained, most had been taken.
"Grab Konrad, we must get back to the shuttle. Once we're clear, I'll order the admiral to destroy the site from orbit, this place is too dangerous to leave intact. Bring that stone, the rest will be destroyed along with the labyrinth."

+++

Sat behind his large mahogany desk, Kaled pondered the glowing stone in front of him. So many people had died for them already, and thousands more might die in the future. He should probably destroy this one, but still... There was a knock at the door. He took a bulky chrome stub pistol from a drawer, flicked off the safety and placed it out of sight in his lap. He called out "Enter."
Lillith Polanski stepped into the room. Her armour was gone, replaced by simple blue robes. "Ah Lillith, how are your wounds healing?"
"Fine sir. Thank you." She looked down at the blue glow of the Hastor stone, then at Kaled. As usual his expression was unreadable.
"I'm sorry Lillith, but you know too much."
"Sir?"
"I'm grateful for everything you did, but I can't allow you to retain knowledge of the Hastor Labyrinth and what we found there. I've arranged for you to be mind-wiped. I pray that just the memories of the last few days can be removed, but you know there are no guarantees. An adept of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica is en-route as we speak."
"But sir..."
"I am sorry." he interrupted. His grip tightened on the pistol. "I have no choice."
Lillith touched the Inquisitorial symbol tattooed on her forehead, and bowed.
"Yes sir. I live to serve." She turned and left. Kaled was happy to note the security personnel waiting to escort Lillith back to her quarters. He hoped her mind wouldn't be too damaged by the procedure, she was a fine operative.
"Damn." he muttered to himself, and returned the pistol to his drawer. He wrapped up the stone, locked it in his safe, then touched a control on the comm-panel in front of him. "Admiral, have your navigators traced those ships?"
"Yes lord." replied Admiral Goodchild, his voice metallic over the comm-link. "We are tracking six ships, but some have very unusual warp signatures."
"Good. Deploy the fleet, we have some hunting to do." Kaled broke the link. He took a book from his shelves, a volume of ancient Terran poetry, and sat back to read.

- The Hastor Incident Continued -

During the closing stages of the Hastor Incident Inquisitor Necris acted with recklessness to secure himself a Hastor stone, taking flight with the precious artefact with little if any resistance, he made his get away from Hastor upon the rogue trader vessel "Quick Silver" when traced down the Ships Master reported that Necris himself had changed to another vessel the "Sabbath" there is no record of this ships existence and it is speculated that this is Necris' own personal ship.

++

Necris sat behind a Naalwood desk a data journal before him, the stylus in his hand hovered over the digital screen then dropped as he started to write.

I have made my escape with the stone, even now as I look upon it's grey surface the thing glows with a strange blue light, if this truly has the means to heal all injuries perhaps I can use it to rid myself of this infliction that burdens my soul, but I am loath to waste such a precious artefact on one such as myself, I look at the stone and the rumours about it's powers, from what I saw Kaled should be dead but word come to me that he lives and is in search of those at Hastor, if this is true then the powers are real enough but how effects could they be could the revive out Lord and Master and what would the consequences of carrying out such an act? Am I becoming a Thorian do I believe in the resurrection of the Emperor, do I believe it is even possible?
No I cannot act irrationally word is spreading that some of the stone escaped the death of Hastor it must be kept secret until a time that I understand the workings behind the thing, for deep down I know there are foul magics involved my arm tingles as if repulsed by the very presence of the thing, maybe it is a reaction to the power of healing maybe it is more sinister.
I am entrusting the stone to Marius he alone can be trusted with it and relied upon to protect it, I'm sending it to the vault there it will stay until I have learned more of its origins and the true nature of the magic behind it.

He rested the quill down and looked up the glow of the screen casting a stark shadow across his face; stepping from the shadows Marius bowed his head silently his foot falls undetectable on the wooden inlaid floor. Necris picked up the stone with his right hand visibly cringing at the touch, he wrapped it in a skin from some xenos animal and placed it into a black case before gene-sealing it, only he would ever be able to open the box, if he eve r chose to open the box.

"Grace is waiting for you in the hangar bay, take the stone to the Vault, kill anyone who tries to stop you."
Marius bowed his head.

"What of those with you on the planet?"

"I have already scheduled Edward to be mind-locked while he recovers from his injuries."

"And Cogg?"

"Nothing I have sworn her to secrecy, she knows not to betray my trust."

"As you wish master."

Marius swept up to the desk collected the case and vanished just as quickly, he wait for a few minutes before activating the vox built into the desk.

"Summon Marcus, I have need of him in Edwards absence."

+++ Subject: ALERT - Enslaver activity on Grimholm II +++

Reports have reached the Conclave of sightings of strange floating, tentacled creatures in and around the capital of Grimholm II. These have coincided with stories of mysterious disappearances, people acting out of character, and mass hysteria. Although we have received no clear pict-captures of the creatures to allow for a positive identification, our initial analysis suggests that this is the work of the warp-beings known as 'Enslavers' <See file: X566-7785-e>.

The local enforcers have been investigating the incidents, with support from the Adeptus Arbites; however should our preliminary analysis prove correct, this is a threat that neither agency is equipped to deal with. Lord Grolin has therefore requested that any available members of the Conclave make haste to Grimholm II to assist in eliminating the threat posed by insidious foul aliens.

The local Planetary Defence Force has been mobilised to blockade the city, and Lord Grolin has dispatched an Inquisitorial Cruiser and two regiments of troops to Grimholm II to assist agents of the Conclave in neutralising the threat.

More information to follow...

May the Emperor watch over you.

Xerxas threw the limp rodent onto the desk and it landed with a damp splat. He shot a furious glance at the Kroot as it made an advance towards the tasty cadaver and he backed away. That damned Kroot's appetite has caused plenty of narrow misses, but this had to be the closest. He slumped down in his chair and rested his brow on his fingertips. As he gazed at the mutant vermin lying lifeless on his desk and watched as blood saturated into the papers beneath it.

The words on the letter were still visible, and the signature at the end, Torquemada, had started to dye a deep crimson from the blood seeping into it. Xerxas pushed the rat off the letter and scanned it, trying to make heads or tails of the milk-run he was sent on. "...Mutant rats... obtain a sample... report your findings..." Nothing to indicate why the Imperium's finest mind should be conducting pest-control in an abandoned ruin. What's worse, is that there is nothing to indicate why there were others there.

Xerxas crumpled up the letter and threw it into the corner of his quarters. He looked up and Anoke, the Kroot, has stole away. If there was one thing Xerxas couldn't fault him for, it was his ability to move around unnoticed. Convenient really, for an eight-foot alien moving amongst a xenophobic populace. The Magos, Lingus Quinne, was now standing in the doorway. Xerxas picked up a pencil and pushed the dead rat away from him to the edge of his desk.

"Cut it up and tell me what you find." Xerxas said, massaging the bridge of his nose with forefinger and thumb, elbows planted firmly on the arms of his chair.

"The Rattus, sire?" Quinne asked, sounding insulted at the task.

"Some things are beyond our control," Xerxas replied, wearily pushing himself out of his chair "just tell me if you find anything.

Quinne shuffled over to the desk and produced a pair of foreceps from his robes, gingerly picked up the dripping carcass and left, muttering to himself.

With one thing off his mind, Xerxas walked over to the viewing port. The planet below was a miserable brown, the same brown of an untreated latrine, covered in a sheath of smog. Xerxas had never declared Exterminatus on a planet before, maybe he'd be doing this solar system a favour...?

Removing such temptations from his mind, he focused on the more pressing task at hand. He hoped that Inquisitor Hanja had managed to get that child to safety. Whilst Torquemada is busy dealing with rodent infestations, Xerxas is trying to save the only witness to the murder of the High Lord Inquisitor of the Conclave. If it wasn't for that damned Torqueamada, Xerxas could deal with the child himself.

Let's hope Inquisitor Hanja is up to the task.

++QueryInquisitor Hanja (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/Adlan/Hanja-1-1.jpg)++
Inquisitor Hanja's (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/Adlan/Hanja-1-1.jpg) dealings have long been associated with the Sector, and his entire career can be found in the logs of this, and neighboring sector's archives. Ref. 5647.444 (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=289.msg3388#msg3388)
Inquisitor Hanja is noted for his skill with a Staff, accounted one of the best masters of the weapon in the sector, his psychic ability, and his ability to move through the lower strata's of Imperial society.

+++ Latest Report Ref.8832.303 +++
Following the Investigations of Inquisitor Xerces, I located and retrieved  the only known witness to the murder of our Late Lord Inquisitor. I had no time nor place for detailed investigation, and after a minor scan of his mind to confirm his identity and presence at the scene, I removed him from the location. Due to the high level's of concern over this matter, I was unable to use any greater force than my self, my valet (http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/8052/imgp1130.jpg), and one of my staff.
Moving through the derelict area's to our Extraction point, we were attacked by a mutant (http://buildyourimagination.co.uk/minis/conclavegt09.php?i=DSC_0305.jpg), which appeared to target the child, though I believe for some other purpose than to prevent his evidence from reaching others. I have  encouraged to local Ecclisarchy to purge these mutants.
In addition to this, we were then beset upon by a group of Cultists (http://lh6.ggpht.com/_orTPwyJEoiY/SxRZN4syzrI/AAAAAAAAAxs/ngmyO-uktHI/s800/crusadef.JPG), who appear to be some off shoot of redemptionists. I have dubed them the unmasked, and according to Rifleman Verger (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b361/Adlan/Verger.jpg) they were being led by an individual bearing the mark of the Inquisition. It appears that our suspicions were confirmed, the death of the Lord Inquisitor involved other members of the Conclave.
Hard pressed, I recieved the aid of a 'freelance Judge (http://buildyourimagination.co.uk/minis/conclavegt09/images/DSC_0282.jpg)', who was serving the interests of Imperial Justice. I have requested his file from the Arbites, and will deliver a full report on this individual in the future.
Unfortunately, despite this aid the mission failed, The Inquisitorial Agent was a Pyromancer, and my Valet Suffered 74% Burns, while the child was specifically targeted, and died. We recovered the body, and we may yet learn something from the scans of his brain. And the Psychic scans I took provide some small leads, as does the attack it's self.

Xerxas tore the transmission slip from the Comms array, his fists clenching tighter as he read.

"One of the best masters of [his] weapon in the sector, his psychic ability, and his ability to move through the lower strata's of Imperial society."

He couldn't even protect a child! A rogue pyromancer, a freelance Judge with dlusions of grandeur and an off-the-record mutant working for the Ecclesiarchy, how could Hanja not handle such a simple task? In a blind rage, Xerxas swept everything off his desk and into the adjacent wall, papers exploding into the air and various curios smashing against the armoured bulkhead. Breathing deeply, he resigned himself to his chair once more and stared at the shred of transmission slip still clutched tightly in his hand.

Interrogator Dune (http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e58/RobSkib/Inquisitor/dune5.jpg) appeared at the door, pistol in hand, responding lightning-fast to the calamitous noise produced from the Inquisitor's quarters.

"Put it away, Ezekiel." Xerxas tone of voice had subdued, "Get me Inquisitor Hanja's file, reference 5647.444. Also, look out any Chirurgeons with intensive burn treatment units, if we can find his chargrilled friend, he will lead us to Hanja."

Dune nodded and disappeared into the bowels of the ship. Xerxas re-read the last few lines of the transmission slip. If it were down to him, he thought to himself, that Valet would have suffered 100% burns...

I have received a messgae from an associate in the Inquisition who has requested we travel to the cathedral of St Theoderic to investigate what he terms 'disturbing rumours' surrounding a relic stored within the saint's tomb.

I realise that this is not normally something we would get involved in, however given the recent Inquisitorial scrutiny of our expedition, we cannot ignore the few friends we have within that organisation.

Further details regarding the matter are attached.

I regret to inform you that we were unable to secure the artefact due to members of the Inquisition meddling in our mission.  They were however unable to prevent us from opening the tomb and examining the artefact.  Even a cursory examination of the so called 'Sword of Fortuna', showed it to be 'tainted' by the forces who dwell beyond the veil.

Our team was temporarily detained by the Arbites but were released without charge.  It seems the sanctimoneous fools within the Ecclesiarchy were very keen to ensure the incident was kept quiet.

We are en-route to your position and will rendezous with the expedition in 4.7 cycles.

It is interesting to me that Zurek was not similarly effected; I hypothesise that the blessed bionic arm that brings him closer to the Omnissiah protected him from the influence of that creature.

I believe that this idea warrants closer examination.  Perhaps those of us who have been blessed by the Machine God could capture and safely use these creatures - there may be much we could learn from them.

+++Personal log of Inquisitor Lyra Rhodes+++

+++Entry 12943+++
Renatus has reported a number of psychic runes upon buildings, predominantly habitations.
Although the runes all vary, most can be sorted into two basic categories. He has drawn a number for me to inspect, although seeing the designs myself has offered few clues.

+++Entry 12947+++
The runes seem to be oriented towards the planetary north. With their number and power  growing as they have, I suspect they may be associated with the coming Candlemas.

+++ Entry 12952+++
The runic investigation has been interrupted by a letter from Cardinal Gandolfo Malatesta, requesting assistance to avoid the theft of the sword of Saint Theodoric.
I have little time to spare from my primary investigation, but I cannot afford enemies within the Ecclesiarchy.

I fear I shall have to respond. With any luck, it will be little more than checking the shrine's wards and seals and a word with the Reverend Warden.

+++Entry 12954+++
By what foul fate I cannot imagine, but the theft of the sword coincided almost exactly with my arrival.

The fact that it got as far as it did was unforgiveable error on my part. My suspicions should have fallen upon the Techpriestess earlier, but I hadn't foreseen that their kind could be coaxed into running mere errands. It was only after a weak excuse about admiring the shrine's architecture that I started to act, fortunately in time to avoid the theft's success.

However, even so, I have been presented with a new task, for the sword of Saint Theodoric is no holy relic. Further research places it as the blade of a daemon the Saint slew on the site and which the Ecclesiarchy had been storing under great pretence.

To further add woes, one of the arbitrators lifted the blade. I am indebted to Kai for dealing with that manner with such swiftness - an act I am prepared to call compensation for his highly lax shooting earlier in the day.

I foresee the loss of another week from my investigation covering over this mess.

+++Entry 12967+++
And with that, I believe the situation has been contained.

I have personally executed Malatesta for his treachery. The sword of Saint Theodoric is being shipped to the vaults on Eudocia IV to be stored under the Inquisition's eye, and its place in the shrine has been taken by a suitably ornate replacement, if one of no consequence.

Techpriestess Orla Riall and her associates are a more complex manner. Unable to execute or mindscrub them, I had to order a release without charge.
I spoke briefly with Orla on the matter, explaining the severity of the situation, although I expect my words were largely ignored. I can only hope that fate saves us from a second meeting.

+++Entry 12973+++
The threat of the growing psychic presence can no longer be put aside. We shall have to trace the runes northwards.

+++ Entry 12978+++
I cannot exactly explain what happened at the planet's north, as I cannot place it rationally in my own head, let alone in text - but once again, it was daemonically centred.
I believe we were dealing with a possessed mortal (I believe by the Slaaneshi daemon Nic'las) who had been manufacturing weapons technology, but that is mere guessing.

Again, I am left wondering whether to reward or punish Kai. While he efficiently dealt with the epicentre of the threat, he also made an enemy of an Arbites judge by opening fire on him, even after he had identified himself.

I was also left with the misfortune of running into the Mechanicus again. A different Techpriestess this time around, but with a similar knack for causing me trouble.

+++Entry 12980+++
I cannot express how glad I am to be out of the freezing wastes. It is singularly unpleasant compared to the climate of Ibilac Prime.

+++Entry 12991+++
A myriad curses on Orla Riall. How could she have known I would be tracking that artefact?

Fortunately, she again failed to escape with it, by virtue of another Inquisitor present at the scene destroying it to avoid its capture. Nonetheless, I am sorely disappointed at the loss of the opportunity to study the artefact myself. The legends of its healing power are lost into the same shards that it has become.

The failure of this mission is compounded by the fact that Kai has been grievously wounded, and requires extensive medical repair to his genitals and pelvis. He is far too hazy to recall any but the crudest details, but I have been told enough to surmise he was hit by the Techpriestess' energy blade, the same one that destroyed my last shock maul. I have never seen the weapon's like, and I shall have to research it to avoid falling foul of it again.

While I was forced to let Orla walk the first time, she can expect none of the same courtesies should we meet on a third occasion.

My Lord

It appears that Lok has been able to revive many of his old contacts, acquiring the services of the former Tau mercenary Ta'Gonn, and mounting a number of aggressive operations.  Although not utilising official inquisitorial channels, he appears to have considerable knowledge of our operations in the sector.  He has many times interfered with operations with none of the courtesy due to those of inquisitorial rank.

Of greatest concern, he was documented at the scene of the recent enslaver outbreak on Grimhom II, where he clashed with inquisitor Cleops and Terwyn's redemptionist lackeys.  Reports are confused.  many suggest he was hit by a laser cannon, but given his appearance mere weeks later these appear unlikely.  What is certain is that there was an inordinate number of explosions, and both the defensive laser cannons and those on the valkyrie were fired in the mellee.

It would appear that Ta'gonn managed to carry Lok to a civilian flyer, which was later found burnt out and abandoned nearby.  It seems a waste of his talents that he is working for Lok.  Judging by the lack of flyers, it appears that all factions escaped.  Although no link to the enslavers can be proved, Lok's frequent use of xenos mercenaries naturally casts suspicion upon him.

In two further incidents he twice assaulted agents of the inquisition whilst they attempted to gather artefacts, destroying a potentially valuable healing artefact and breaking the arm of inquisitor Hanja - it would appear that he has acquired extensive scarring, either from the laser cannon shot or earlier, and has replaced his left arm with an implanted power fist of some efficacy.

It is our recommendation that inquisitor Lok remain deceased and that this individual be classed as a dangerous rogue.

Your information was correct, the rodent population of Feeng Beta were indeed acting in an unusual manner.  Although I have no proof of my theory, I believe that the rats were 'possessed' by a similar creature to the one that attacked the Arbitrator at the Cathedral of Saint Theoderic.

I was able to procure a live subject for further study, however the creature reverted to a seemingly normal state once the main nest was destroyed by Nabokov and Experiment-10654.  I have transfered the subject to Laboratory 36 for further analysis.

++Query: Order Perditus++
The Order Perditus has a strong presence in and around the sector. While typically, their numbers allow for approximately one Inquisitor per 500 Imperial planets, it is typical for there to be a dozen or so Perditus Inquisitors present in the sector at any one time.
The primary reason for such presence is a complex of Order buildings on Eudocia IV, a planet positioned towards the galactic north of the sector. The complex as a whole is for the most part used for research and storage. The senior figure at the facility is currently Inquisitor Byssus, who has...

++Data interrupted at user request++

++Query: Inquisitor Byssus++
Inquisitor Lembus Byssus has headed the Inquisition facility on Eudocia IV for slightly less than five years, and is officially retired from active missions on the basis that his skill set has become too valuable to routinely risk in the field.

He wields a moderate amount of influence within the sector, partly as the sector's senior figure within the Order Perditus, and partly by reputation. Similarly, he keeps a hand in recent actions within in the sector via a number of proxies, at times including his former acolytes (Inquisitors Rhodes and Skoll).
Given his support network, Byssus' detractors are generally secretive, avoiding direct confrontation with him.

Also an active researcher at the Eudocia facility, his current research paper is on Trans-Aethyric Association in Homo Sapiens. He is ably assisted by another former acolyte, Inquisitor Brennan.

Lyra Joandra Rhodes has been within the sector for some time and is currently believed to be on the hunt for the Palix array, a legend predating the Imperium's conquest of the sector.

It is said to be an ancient warp lens, a place where the immaterium is focused into an ordered manner. Although a handful of excavated records detail basic facts about its appearance and function, the details given about its location are either vague to the point of uselessness or associated with ancient and forgotten place names.

If the tales and rumours of the array's potential bear any truth, the technologies involved are both highly valuable and highly dangerous.

++Recent Event flag: Palix Array++

The lead scholar associated with the search for the Palix Array was recently found guilty of ninety-three separate charges of un-imperial behaviour by an Arbites investigation headed by Inquisitor Skoll, and was sentenced to complete Arco-Flagellation.

Marco Robert Skoll is on record as having been promoted to the rank of Inquisitor within the Carthax sector five years ago.

As a relatively junior Inquisitor, Skoll has largely been restricting himself to relatively minor issues, in the hope of avoiding outright confrontation with the better connected and established Inquisitors within the sector.

He has regularly been seen assisting in the tracking of a mercenary known as "Frost" throughout the sector within recent months, but latest reports suggest that he is outside the sector, attending to matters of political unrest.

Silently enjoying the dappled sunlight of the forest path, and the freedom from both her carapace armour and the constant whispers of the daemonsword she carried as a test of discipline, Terwyn walked lightly through the woodlands. She trod slowly, taking time to savour the journey, and just nervous to delay the coming rendezvous in a clearing, where an elderly man idly tapped away at a pair of data terminals. To her relief, however, the piercing eyes which fixed on her held genuine warmth and approval in as she stopped to bow, data terminals swiftly set aside. A weathered hand gestured absently with an ebony cane to a second chair, and a table set with tea.
.
"Terwyn. Sit down, dear girl, and have some tea. You've been working hard, and you have done well. Your handling of the enslavers, and of the dangerous mutation in Feeng Alpha's rats, escaping one and destroying the other, avoiding some dangerous rivals, was efficient, and to bring the Seekers back intact, despite their volatility, beyond all expectations. The only fault is the regrettable demise of Marech Val, but with young Cleops preserving his unique talents it is small loss. As for the final matter..."

He paused, studying her emotions carefully, then spoke again.

"You were right to handle the boy as you did, and equally right to be troubled by it. The best of us regret everything we must do, yet his testimony would have brought intolerable discord. The death of Grolin will turn the conclave will turn to suspicion and infighting once more, and the more evidence they have, the worse it will be. The children quarrel so easily, and any among them would have used such a testimony as an excuse to condemn their favourite enemy. This way, I have at least some small chance to limit the damage they do to each other, yet even so, I fear Grolin is merely the first of many good inquisitors to be lost to us before things settle. A bad time for it, with the Vizier wishing to play games with me once more...I will miss him terribly. Who now will remember I was ever anything but ancient?"

For several minutes, the worn figure remained isolated in silent reverie, then with a deep sigh reached for the terminals again.

"Get some sleep Terwyn, while you still have that luxury. Then continune work on your discipline."

"Yes, my Lord Smogg."

Knowing better than to ask questions, she Rose and bowed again, then turned away, leaving the elderly lord to his manipulations as she headed for the rest he had ordered.

The sounds of the Tabulator filled the room. Unlike some Inquisitors, Hanja was not a fan of vast ostentation, and so subtle ornamentation was the theme, refined elegance. The Fine curly Betula wood desk, occupying a third of the room, the rest of this inquisitors 'office' was more like a dojo, the fine carpets replaced by exercise mats, and the wood panneling hung with equipment.

Inquisitor Hanja was compleating his report. With a seal and scan of his electoo, it was ready to be sent and confirmed, all that had been obtained from the corpse of the witness, as much pict data as his hunterskull had recorded, and the results from his own psychic investigations. He had a list of suspects, targets and deductions to share with Inquisitor Xerxas. But before he sent it off, entered a final post script:

In consideration of this evidence, the actions taken by our opponents, and the likely consequence of going before the conclave with this evidence, I must caution you. Accusations of this nature will not be borne by our testimony alone. Before placing our findings before our peers, I would seek further evidence in our joint investigations, particularly about the Inquisitorial agent seen in the attatched pict capture +++Inquisitorial Clearance Granted  (http://buildyourimagination.co.uk/minis/conclavegt09/images/DSC_0313.jpg)+++

Yours
-Hanja Daurman
.

Hanja sent the message, and left his office. He required solitude, and prayer. Aboard his Lighter, space was cramped, with staff and crew and equipment, but the chapel was still a place a sancity and peace.

Inside, in pride of place, the newest of relics, the bones of a saint. He sat, crosslegged on his simple rush prayer mat, lit a stick of blessed incense, and began to meditate on the events that led upto this, returning the bones to the ecclisarchy

Following a set of reports from various Inquisitors that were almost riddle like in their contradictions he deduced  possible locations of the casket, Hanja led a small team to retrieve them, for he knew, other parties were all so seaking to claim the relic's. The Mechanicus (http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/yy3/MarcoSkoll/IGT%202009%20Photos/IMG_2428.jpg), who were more probably interested in rumours of archeotech buried with the saint than the sacred bones themselves, and an unknown operative (http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/yy3/MarcoSkoll/IGT%202009%20Photos/IMG_2433.jpg).

Using steal and guile, Hanja advanced on the first location, but found nothing. His valet, Ungen, advanced on the 2nd, only to find the mechanicus had made it there first (http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/yy3/MarcoSkoll/IGT%202009%20Photos/IMG_2434.jpg). Ungen, using his initiative, initially chrged the tech priestess, but was soon set upon by the adepts combat servitor.

Hanja smiled at the way Ungen had handled himself, both were veterans of slave fighting pits, and both were ferocious at close quaters, but while Hanja was fluid motion and devastating blows, Ungen was a steel wall of shield and flail that bore back his opponent.

It was this Fluid motion that was used next, Hanja dashed over and while Ungen held back the combat servitor. With a flying leap from the rock he made for the casket. (http://s772.photobucket.com/albums/yy3/MarcoSkoll/IMG_2436edited.jpg) First getting past the priestess, and then the mechanicus's half sized assistant. As he fled with the casket he was shot in the back, and legs, shattering his left limb, leaving him to crawl away with the assistance of Ungen, and Rifleman Verger, who had finally destroyed the servitor with a grenade.

So now, he twinged as he got up, the quick grown flesh still painful and in need of conditioning, he was injured, and with his valet in the infirmary, still recuperating as well, it was good that they were taking a quiet jaunt to return the casket.

+ Subject: Death of Lord Grolin

It is with deep regret that I must announce that this morning Lord Inquisitor Marcus Grolin, head of the Carthaxian Conclave, was found dead in his private study by members of his household staff.

Lord Grolin, aged 317, has been a member of the Carthaxian Conclave for a little over two centuries.  During much of his long and glorious career he was a member the Ordo Hereticus, eventually rising to the position of Master of that Ordo.  He was later invited to succeed Lord Roemar as head of the Carthaxian Conclave, a position he has held for almost sixty years.  Notable events in his career include Scourging of the Folixian Cult, the Prosecution of General Fangorn, and the Trial of Inquisitor Yund.

Lord Grolin had been suffering continuing health problems for some time, and it is believed that these were the cause of his death; however, as is customary in these circumstances, a full investigation will be carried out to verify this.

I know that everyone will be saddened by this tragic event, and on behalf of the Carthaxian Conclave I would like to express my sympathies to Lord Grolin's friends, colleagues and members of his staff.

May the Emperor watch over his spirit.

With Lord Grolin's passing, it falls to us, members of the Carthaxian Conclave, to choose his successor.  As is tradition, we will now enter into a period of quiet reflection and contemplation during which we will all pray for guidance from the Emperor to ensure that we might choose wisely.

Members of the Conclave are invited to meet at the Inquisitorial Fortress on Tigguo Cobauc on 0310010.M42 when Lord Grolin's successor will be appointed and announced.

In the meantime I will continue to lead the Conclave during this difficult time of transition.

My Lord, I bear distressing news.

That damnable Inquisitor Vanth (Ref. 44/249 (http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e58/RobSkib/Inquisitor/vanth.jpg) ) is here, in the Carthaxian sector! I thought we had rid of him during that incident on Jedda IX, but apparently not.

I was carrying out field studies planetside as instructed on the Great Ruins of Jedda IX when that thrice-damned man appeared and chased us away. I do not believe he is aware of my affiliation with you, my Lord, so he cannot trace me back to your coordinates. He must be here for the meeting on Tigguo Cobauc, how did he know though? I thought Grolin blacklisted him half a decade ago?

My Lord, more distressing news. It appears Vanth is now allying with the Alien, as well as the Heretic and the Daemon. A member of his party whom I did not recognise was present, his armour appeared distinctly Tau, yet there was something incredibly unusual about him. At this time, I cannot begin to predict what Vanth is doing, as I had very little time to pict-capture this individual for later study ( Ref. 45/249 (http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e58/RobSkib/art/JD500003-1.jpg) )

This is foreboding news indeed my Lord, as Vanth's treachery knows no bounds, especially if he has new Xenos allies. Still, I would very much like to study this Tau turncoat more, if my Lord allows.

An exceptionally dangerous mercenary, Frost (true identity unknown) has connections to over one hundred assassinations of important figures, including Arbites judges, Imperial officers, corporation owners, and potentially three Inquisitors and a planetary governor.

Including minor hits, illegally issued bounties and reported involvement in warzones, he is charged with responsibility for the deaths of at least one thousand Imperial citizens.

He is known to be a master of disguise, as reports of his appearance are seldom consistent (see attached datafile), ranging from extremes of heavily built gentlemen to that of small women.
However, while his exact appearance is unknown, it is beyond question that he possesses exceptional combat skill and extensive resources.

As a highly trained killer with no qualms about killing those associated with the Inquisition, he is to be considered exceptionally dangerous.

My Lords,

I am Jarrad Cross Equerry and Aspirant to Inquisitor Necris, I bring grave news in the wake of the elections of the new Lord Inquisitor, My Lord Necris was to hold a conclave of his peerage, brothers and sisters of close relations with himself. On the eve of this meeting an individual known as Inquisitor Niska arrived at my masters estate and laid waste to it making off with several artefacts under my lords protection including a supposed Hastor Stone.

Upon investigation Niska is not known in current Inquisitional records and appears to be an alias for some other element, he is extremely dangerous with a strong body of servants and bondsmen. My Master has vowed to bring this Niska to justice and has set off in pursuit, and is following the path of destruction Niska has left.

Reports and coming to my attention of assassinations and murders being perpetrated by an individual matching Niska's description, upon deeper probing into the reasoning for these deaths it appears that the majority of those killed have links to the Inquisition as informants, information gatherers and agents, it is speculated by my master that these operatives are potentially linked to the Ordo Sicarius but as yet he has found no concrete evidence.

As of this time I have assumed the responsibilities of my Master as he pursues this enemy of mankind.

Yours faithfully

Cross

"Let me cut to the chase, if I may?"

The pathetic specimen of humanity strapped to the gurney before him had already been brought back to life three times during this torture session. The woman's body was covered in fresh lacerations, bruises, missing digits, a bloody mess where her nose and right ear had been and older untreated wounds that were beginning to turn septic - a multitude of tubes stuck into the skin providing various fluids to keep her alive and compliant. She was not a pleasant sight.

Meekly, she gave a small terrified nod.

"I am certain you do not want to suffer the attentions of my... friend again, yes?" he gestured briefly to the being that stood in the corner of the small room, hiding it's true nature under an oversized filthy black hooded robe.

A frantic look entered the woman's eyes, shaking her head earnestly.

"I thought not."

The torturer stepped up to lean over the woman's head before continuing,

"We already know everything we need to know from you, or at least, nearly everything. All that remains is a single name. You may or may not realise the importance of this name, but to the future of the Carthax sector it is crucial."

He leant down even closer and whispered into her remaining ear,

"Answer this one question and I will end your pain permanently."

"P-please, anything." came the barely-audible response.

"Who wants Calleia dead?"

A grim smile briefly crossed the man's face at the answer.

"Thank you Evia, your information will be most useful."

He stepped back and stood upright again, drawing his bulky naval pistol from it's holster and placing the muzzle against Evia's temple. Tears streamed down her face, relieved that her ordeal was over. The man gave a final proclamation,

"You have served the Imperium well, Inquisitor Evia Varoya. Your duty and dedication is noted. Go take your seat with the Emperor."

With a loud clack, the hammer slammed on an empty magazine.

He placed the gun back in his holster and made for the rooms door. Panicked hoarse whispers came from Varoya, pleading for mercy, for death.

Halfway through the door the torturer turned back to face into the room and shouted angrily at her,

"Do you realise how much work this will take! I must make for Tigguo Cobauc with the utmost haste. Lord Inquisitor Calleia must be protected long enough to take power. Of all the candidates only he will see sense and allow the project to continue."

Inquisitor Heroka Vendile stood regarding his terrified colleague for a few moments before looking up at the sinister cloaked figure and saying,

"Areshibael, you may now feast on her soul."

Inquisitor Evia Varoya screamed.

+++ MESSAGE BEGINS +++

Lords,

As of late, the amount of rebellions on planets in the Carthaxian sector has increased greatly. From the results of interrogation, we have extrapolated that many of the rebellions generally seem to be able to be traced back to a man in a long green coat and gas mask with a large sword. These descriptions seem to match those given of the heretic preacher Zophar. There have been many rebeliions on Imperial worlds that have been attributed to this man and he is to be considered a danger to stability on any world he frequents. As of yet, he has eluded capture - we hope that you of the Carthaxian Conclave can change this. Some accounts suggest he may also be a witch - so be vigilent. Follow the trail of rebellion, heresy and destruction, and you will be lead to him. He is considered to be using the death of Lord Grolin as a distraction - seizing the opportunity to corrupt the Carthaxian sector while the authorites are busy.

Presumably related to this, a lone, small spacecraft has been spotted in the Carthaxian sector. It apparently bears the marks of the 'Alpha Legion' renegades and may explain how the heretic is travelling from world to world. If you encounter him, expect him to be accompanied by some of those he has corrupted.

May you remain vigilent.

++query:Inquisitor Evia Varoya++
A long-standing puritan stalwart of the Carthaxian conclave, this member of the Ordo Hereticus was unknown as Lord Inquisitor Gorlins' "instrument of displeasure" - sent out to reprimand or bring in (by force if necessary) any members of the Conclave deemed to have over-stepped the mark. She held this unofficial position for over twenty years, however events and revelations surrounding the trial and subsequent execution of Inquisitor Krobax in 001M42 <see file kro-42-ex5-y6> led to her being ostracised by the majority of the conclave, including her sponsor, the Lord Inquisitor.
Since then she turned her efforts to hunting lower threat level heretics of her own accord, receiving little acknowledgement for her work from the Conclaves members. <for a full list of completed investigations during this period see file ry-683k-wp223-c>
Recent additions
The collation of rumours in the wake of the death of Lord Inquisitor Grolin <see file md-5721-gn (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=434.0)> indicate that she likely had been in heavy communication with the deceased on a matter of importance in the weeks immediately prior to his passing. Further investigating into these rumours shows the generally held belief to be that their talks related to a new target for the Inquisitor to bring in for questioning, presumably a sign that Lord Grolin was willing to allow her back into the fold once more.
However, three days after the announcement of the death of Lord Grolin, Inquisitor Varoya's second, Eludicator Davno, reported his master to have been kidnapped during an ambush on Aniels Reach, Davno himself died from his own wounds soon after sending the report to the Conclave <see file ts-4001-zc>. At this current time the fate of Inquisitor Evia Varoya remains unknown.

+++ Subject: Candidates to succeed Lord Grolin

My Lord,

As requested I have compiled the following summary of the candidates who have so far stepped forward and joined the race to succeed Lord Grolin as head of the Conclave.

Lord Inquisitor CalleiaCalleia is acting head of the Carthaxian Conclave and the leader of the Helios Cabal, a body of Inquisitors dedicated to combating the threat of the deadly Graveel Hegemony.  Even though he has never chosen to join an Ordo, Calleia is well respected and his independence means there are many ready to support him should he be nominated to succeed Lord Grolin.

Inquisitor Lord PraetusLord Praetus has led the Ordo Hereticus in the Carthax Sector for over a century.  In the past he was seen as the frontrunner to succeed Lord Grolin; however he is becoming rather frail and it may be that he is physically not up to the demands of the role.  Despite this fact, there are still many within the Conclave who would back him.

Lady Inquisitrix Ingrid ZwolakLady Ingrid heads a cell of Amalathians operating in the Carthax Sector and is a leading candidate to succeed Lord Grolin.  Several months ago, dark rumours surfaced claiming Zwolak was being manipulated by dark forces.  A thorough investigation has cleared her of any taint and her popularity remains as strong as ever.  Should there be some dark secret in Zwolak's past, she may be the ideal candidate for someone willing to use blackmail to control the head of the Carthaxian Conclave.

Inquisitor Iacton RegisRegis is well respected as a learned and scholarly Inquisitor.  He retired from the field three decades ago and is seldom seen outside the the Inquisitorial Library on Farness II.  Many feel that his centuries of service and well-rounded career would make him an ideal Inquisitor Lord.  For an Inquisitor Ordinary to be elected head of the Carthaxian Conclave is unheard of, however there are many who would be ready to support Regis.

Inquisitor Ze ThiagoAlmost nothing is known of Inquisitor Thiago.  He announced his presence in the sector at the last meeting of the Conclave and since then has kept a low profile but rumours persist that he seeks the lordship.  Those who have met him appear to dislike him intensely and many rumours surround him.  Some claim that his secret is as simple as him being a Pariah, others that he is touched by the dark powers.  There have even been claims that he is an infil-traitor placed within the Conclave by powers unknown.  Despite all this, it is said that he has the support to contest the election.

As you know, High Conclave called by Calleia is still some months away and it is entirely possible that additional candidates will reveal themselves over the coming weeks.  Currently none of the above candidates have overwhelming support and my information suggests that immediately prior to the High Conclave we will see evidence of increased campaigning, as potential candidates attempt to drum up as much support as possible both within the Holy Ordos and the Adeptus Terra.

Also, as is usual in these situations, I expect that a number of lesser candidates will submit reports to the Conclave detailing the many foes they have vanquished and the catastrophes they have averted in an attempt to increase their standing and remind their peers of their prowess.

Your servant,

Ottokar

Audio Log; Sarthuul, begin recording;

I like this new sector. The people are naive and doe-eyed, different to those around the segmentum obscurus where living near the Eye has strengthened the resolve of many due to the sheer quantity of rumours and horror stories.

Since moving here, I have already caused multiple uprisings on three separate Hiveworlds, and I think rumours are starting to circulate about me. I'm becoming quite the 'boogey-man'.

An old friend of mine has visited the sector in the wake of the Inquisitor Lord's death - the news which drew me to this sector. His name is on my list - he signed the contract in blood not long before I was imprisoned in this wretched mortal realm. He asked for power, and I gave it to him, but in return I made him sign away his soul. Now, he wishes to become the head of the conclave in this sector. Imagine the power I might have! I could turn the entire sector towards the foul forces, and take many more souls in the process. Now there is simply the matter of him becoming the new leader.

Still, there is naught one cannot do with a bit of help from old friends....

End audio log.

I know it is not all that long since our last exchange, but nonetheless, I am hoping this message finds you well.
Unfortunately however, my reasons for contacting you are not social.

Byssus has summoned me back to the Carthax Sector. As I'm sure he will have already troubled you on the matter, I doubt it will surprise you that he wishes to have his say in the appointment of Lord Grolin's successor. Whether the Conclave on Tigguo Cobauc will take an Inquisitor of my limited repute seriously is questionable, but he has nonetheless "requested" me acting as his proxy in the matter.

Thus far, he has not told me which candidate he wishes me to act in support of. I suspect he knows I may object to the choice - if so, I am somewhat disappointed at the lack of honesty, but hardly surprised.

Given the task at hand, I think I must ask you to contact Miss Kestel and inform her that I will require her talents in the coming weeks.

Until next time, may the Emperor watch over you.

Esteemed members of the Conclave,

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that Lord Inquisitor Calleia has been elected head of the Carthaxian Conclave.  The ballot of the Conclave's members took place yesterday at the Inquisitorial Fortress on Tigguo Cobauc, and resulted in Calleia winning the support of a majority of the Conclave's members.  The opposing candidates were Inquisitors Goddard and Necris, whose long service and many great deeds earned them nominations, but were not enough secure the votes of their peers.

Calleia's majority gives him a clear mandate to lead the Conclave and, as is tradition, he was formally sworn into office at midnight.

Lord Calleia will make a speech to the Conclave shortly, and an announcement as to who is to succeed him in his former role as head of the Helios Cabal will be made in due course.

May he govern wisely in the Emperor's name.

Brother-Herald Claudius knelt awkwardly in front of the carved eagle dominating the wall of his cell.
Wincing from the sound of his bionic knee clicking against the care stone floor, he made the sign of the aquilla and closed his eyes
"All-Father, forgive me, for i have failed." he intoned, his breathing slowing as he organised his memories.
Lord Macragge had assured him that the death of Inquisitor Gratin, while regrettable, had not been his responsibility; he was an Ultramarine Herald, not an Inquisitorial servant.

Marshalling his thought, he recalled events leading upto the Vote...
(http://www.buildyourimagination.co.uk/minis/conclavespring10/tn/01.jpg) (http://www.buildyourimagination.co.uk/minis/conclavespring10/images/01.jpg)
He had arrived to meet an Inquisitor Tanypher*, only to encounter distraction from Inquisitor Odanodan escorting local sub-human pilgrims.

While the pilgrims themselves were appropriately repentant, a pair of Redemptionists in Inquistor Tanypher*s employ had assaulted Inquisitor Odanodan without provocation!

A single warning punch had flattened the lead Redemptionist, allowing Claudius and one of Odanodans retinue to patch up the Inquisitor.

Claudious took a deep breath as the memories were assimilated. Lord Calleia certainly had his work cut out for him; the shambles of back-stabbing, power crazed Inquisitors would need a firm hand to pull into line and with the dishonour dealt to Claudious, the Ultramarines would almost certainly be willing to dispense the Emperors Justice...

I heard tale that my Candidate was currently in the Underhives of a nearby Hiveworld, investigating some form of heresy or rebellion, and decided to pay him a visit to remind him of our deal and to tell him that he had my support. I soon learned that my information was misleading, and it was in fact a different Inquisitor in the Underhives altogether! Further to this there was seemingly mutliple Inquisitors, but whether or not they were working in conjuction I could not say. I can only assume that my sources sold me out and that these Inquisitors were here to capture me, and having worked so hard to get ahold of this body, I was not particularly willing to give it up without a fight. I had Severin with me at the time, so i decided to use him as a distraction, while I ran for the ladder to take me out of the Underhive, so that I might leave the planet as soon as possible (and re-visit my sources to inform them of my displeasure).

Severin killed one Underhive resident, and behind this cover i jumped to scale the building with the ladder.

(http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/Brother_Brimstone/spring%20conclave/springclave13.jpg)

After this, however, things went downhill, as Severin was severly shot (many, many times), and I was set aflame and fell from my position on the building).

(http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/Brother_Brimstone/spring%20conclave/springclave20.jpg)

Once Severin and I had regained conciousness the Inquisitors had gone - apparently they were either ignorant to my identity, or had higher priorities.

After leaving that damnable Hiveworld, I heard tale of another Daemonic weapon on a nearby planet. I hoped to capture it, for experimentation to futher my understanding of my present condition. I, Severin and Willie made planetfall, and soon discovered that we had been traced. One of the Inquisitors I had met in the Underhive (who i was to later learn was called Inquisitor Prometheus) had clearly seen my profile since leaving me in that Hive and had decided to capture or kill me. I sent Willie to search a nearby building for the sword, while I approcahed the Inquisitor to attempt to convince him that I shouldn't be his target. Fortune would have it that he was gullible, and he was soon shot by an unseen assassin. I told him that I too was an Imperial servant and that we had been sent to this planet to die.

(http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/Brother_Brimstone/spring%20conclave/springclave31.jpg)

Together, we held back the assassins. During his search Willie mangaed to detonate a demolition charge while standing next to it and ended up rather worse for wear. On top of this, Severin was shot. Still, I remained unscathed, so overall I was not displeased. After we escaped the assassins, Prometheus and I parted ways.

I made planetfall on yet another nearby planet after this, in an attempt to capture Inquisitor Gratin, and 'convince him' that my candidate would be best. This was not as successful as I had hoped, as the Inquisitor had a Space Marine bodyguard. Severin, in his enraged idiocy, charged the marine, who proceeded to pick him up and throw him at me. After that, everything went black.

(http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/Brother_Brimstone/spring%20conclave/springclave42.jpg)

I was later awoken by Willie, who told me he had come to find me, and that on his way to me he had seen some Inquisitors in the city. I assumed Prometheus had learned that he had been duped and had come back to find me. I sent Severin down the roads and alleys with instruction to kill anyone he came across. Unfortunately, he came across an arco-flagellant, who knocked him unconcious. By this point, Willie and I had ascended to a Bridge to try and gain a better view of the surrounding area, and we saw the flagellant knock Severin to the floor. Willie used his 'ability' to shut down the flagellant, but a rather familliar voice once again activated the beast.

(http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af8/Brother_Brimstone/spring%20conclave/springclave6.jpg)

As it climbed the building to reach Willie and I on the bridge, Willie set up a demolition charge and we ran for cover. We had a tremendous BOOM behind us as the charge went off, and I can only assume the flagellant perished, along with the adjoining building and bridge.

With all these disasters taking place, it is little surprise that my candidate was not nominated. Still, I felt I should exert as much influence on the election of the new Head as possible, so I brainwashed the guards outside the election area into allowing me entrance. Once inside, I heard the Candidates or their proxies making speaches, and learned of who the vote was between. I voted for Calleia, as he seemed the easiest to manipulate (he was apparently not a member of any specific Ordo, and I would be damned if I would allow a Malleus or Hereticus Inquisitor lead the sector). I had to separate myself from my host body in order to vote - it was excessively painful, although shortlived, and luckily, I had spent so much time inside this body that I was able to exert control while it did not hold the sword (although much longer and i surely would have lost my grip).

(http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu104/Kasthan/Inquisitor/Spring%20Meet%20Up%202010/DSCN2332.jpg)

After being reunited with my host, I attempted to use my powers to force an Inquisitor to vote for Calleia. However, my time separated from my host had weakened me, and all that happened was the host's mind gained a little bit more power in its attempt to force me out. While I was suffering this internal struggle the Inquisitor realised my ploy, and drew his bolt pistol shooting me in the head at point blank range. Luckily, my powers over my host's body include regeneration and resurrection, so although my host's head was in less than ideal condition at the time, I knew that over time I would be able to repair it (and in the time my host had spent with less than a full head of brains I could fully regain my foothold in his mind).

(http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu104/Kasthan/Inquisitor/Spring%20Meet%20Up%202010/DSCN2348.jpg)

I hear that Calleia won the position, so although my candidate was not in charge, the result was not the worst possible. Perhaps someday soon I can replace Calleia with someone more...synmpathetic to my causes. Until then, I shall plot and make life as difficult as I can for this new Head of the Conclave. No sector with the 'Great Prophet Sathuul' in is safe for long...

End audio log.

+++ priority transmission +++

My fellow inquisitors, I feel I must express my dismay at the conduct surrounding the recent elections.  It would appear that the only candidate to survive unscathed was lord Gotthard, who like myself wisely took the precaution of being elsewhere.  I have at least 3 reports telling me that lord Necris died during the process.

I suppose you know 'Bash' Berker was involved in the xenos sniper that wounded Calleia gaining access to the fortress, and that we (or more precisely, you), seem to have lost track of him.  Again?  I further enclose as much as I've managed to gather on an incident that left one of our safehouses irreversibly compromised.

It would appear that inquisitor Odanadon was involved.  Despite my reservations about his activities, I am willing to concede that his business may have been legitimate.

(http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu104/Kasthan/Inquisitor/Spring%20Meet%20Up%202010/DSCN2270.jpg)

it would appear he was uncertain of the exact location, and sent the techpriest off to check one of the locations on his own, when these two appeared.

(http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu104/Kasthan/Inquisitor/Spring%20Meet%20Up%202010/DSCN2273.jpg)

I trust I need not emphasise that the large creature is a knarloc.  How were these two even allowed on planet?
It is clear that Oddy had not briefed the techpriest sufficiently, since his arrival at the safehouse triggered shotgun blasts that drew the attention of the kroot mercenaries.

(http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu104/Kasthan/Inquisitor/Spring%20Meet%20Up%202010/DSCN2278.jpg)

Despite a brave tussle against the kroot, Takeshi was repeatedly bitten in the head by the knarloc, and I can only assume that his lack of biological parts saved him from being devoured.  Oddie, meanwhile, was half a block away, being shadowed by a robed figure, who for whatever reason doesn't show up well on our surveillance.

(http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu104/Kasthan/Inquisitor/Spring%20Meet%20Up%202010/DSCN2276.jpg)

His associate, Zaleni, responded heroically, felling the kroot handler with a long range shotgun blast to the leg, but the enraged knarloc proved impervious to his weapon and rampaged, consequently putting Zaleni out of action.  Despite being stranded on the second floor of the building, I have to admit Oddie performed heroically, making a running jump onto a passing truck.  The nail in the coffin of any discretion came when something resembling plasma fire (but not quite, there were a number of.. anomalies) issued from the top floor of the building, set the tanker alight, causing it to swerve and crash.

(http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu104/Kasthan/Inquisitor/Spring%20Meet%20Up%202010/DSCN2283.jpg)

Oddie was able to leap onto the opposite causeway though, and snapped off a number of autopistol shots that caused the knarloc to take cover so that something, at least, could be salvaged of the situation.  I really must commend his heroism.

(http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu104/Kasthan/Inquisitor/Spring%20Meet%20Up%202010/DSCN2284.jpg)

Disturbingly, later searches failed too flush the knarloc, and it may be assumed to have been guided by the shadowy figure.  The kroot was taken into custody, but swiftly busted out by the rogue witchhunter Lok, who excecuted a number of 'heretics' in the process.

I strongly urge the members to rally behind Lord Calleia and restore some kind of order.

yours,

Torqy

+++ Subject: Transcript of Lord Calleia's Speech

My Lord,

Please find attached an edited transcript of Lord Calleia's inaugural speech to the Carthaxian Conclave.  The vast majority of the speech was taken up by the traditional and ritualistic proceedings, with which you are already familiar, so I have taken the liberty of removing these (and any other superfluous) portions from the transcript leaving just the few sections which I believe will be of interest.  I have also taken the liberty of inserting comments on the proceedings, which I hope will be of use to you.  Should you require it, the complete and unedited speech is available on the Inquisitorial network.

Your servant,

Ottokar

+ Transcript Begins

<Text deleted: Calleia's speech began with the formal greetings, the ritual repeating of the Oath of Office and the traditional reading of those ancient texts whose meaning has been long forgotten.  He continued by saying how honoured he was to have been elected and how he would serve the Conclave to the best of his abilities.  In other words, the beginning of the speech was much as you would expect - formulaic and entirely uninteresting.>

The Conclave has seen some turbulent times in recent months, beginning with the tragic death of my predecessor.  Lord Grolin had done an exemplary job in leading the Conclave, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  Marcus Grolin was one of those who sponsored me for Inquisitorial rank and, over the long years between then and now, we became firm friends.  I always looked up to Marcus as a mentor and he served as an example for me of everything an Inquisitor should be...

<Comment: Despite the fact that the above portion of his speech was again rather formulaic and dull, I included it here due to the interesting fact that Grolin was one of those who sponsored Calleia when he was made Inquisitor.  I have dug through the Conclave records and have discovered that Inquisitor Tuerker was also on the panel, but the name of the third sponsor has been deleted.  Is there some mysterious secret in Calleia's past?  Or was this simply one of the many administrative errors that beset the Inquisitorial archives?>

<Text deleted: Calleia continued by saying how he would seek to follow in Grolin's footsteps as he leads the Conclave into the future.  He then went on to refer to some of the other 'troubles' that took place during the run up to the High Conclave.  Calleia deliberately avoided assigning blame or censure for these acts, partly to avoid driving further divisions between members of the Conclave but also, I suspect, because he too had covert agents 'campaigning' on his behalf.>

Finally, and more devastatingly, there was the recent outrage on Carthage.  The blast at the Conclave called by Lord Hess has badly depleted our numbers, so to rectify this I will be looking to you all to put forward worthy acolytes who are ready to be inducted into the Holy Ordos.  My first act in this regard is to promote Lord Smogg's senior acolyte, Terwyn-Awchus, to full Inquisitorial rank - may she serve with distinction and honour.  I hope that before we wrap up proceedings here at Tigguo-Cobauc there will be more new Inquisitors joining our ranks, and I trust that you will give them every support.

<Text deleted: Calleia continued by reading out the names of those Inquisitors who fell at Carthage and paid tribute to their careers.  A full account of the terrible events that took place at Carthage can be found in file: X-6462-WOS.a (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=562.0).>

As you will no doubt have noted, the destruction at Carthage claimed the lives of most of the Helios Cabal, and its few surviving members are spread far and wide in their efforts to combat the Graveel Hegemony.  Therefore, in order to ensure that the cabal is rebuilt as soon as possible without disrupting current operations, I have decided that Inquisitor Terwyn-Awchus will take on the role of acting head of the Helios Cabal, aided by her mentor Lord Smogg.  I anticipate that she will perform with distinction in this role, and I hope you will join me in wishing her every success with this difficult task.

<Comment: The above section of the speech was greeted with astonishment and scepticism by some members of the Conclave; for Calleia to put a newly promoted Inquisitor into his former position as head of the Helios Cabal was entirely unexpected and I have no further information as to why he made this decision.  Some have speculated that the appointment was a deliberate affront to Inquisitor Ricardo Loyde, who had hoped to succeed Calleia.  Others have suggested that Terwyn-Awchus was appointed as a mere pawn who could be manipulated by Calleia (however as her first loyalty is to Lord Smogg this theory seems unlikely).  Perhaps the most likely answer is that Calleia owed Lord Smogg a favour, perhaps in return for his support during the election - the two have never been noted as particularly close allies, but then Lord Smogg's activities have often been shrouded in secrecy.>

As you are all aware, the ballot proceedings were marred by a series of 'incidents'.  I have already asked a number of Inquisitors to help track down my would-be assassin, and a parallel investigation is on-going into the attempted murder of Inquisitor Necris.  Currently I am not treating these incidents as being related, however that may change as further evidence comes to light.  Most disturbing of all, there have also been reports that the heretic known variously as Zophar or Sarthuul managed to infiltrate the Inquisitorial Fortress during the Conclave.  This action cannot be tolerated, and I have ordered Commander D'Val to carry out a full security review to determine the circumstances and extent of the infiltration.  Apprehension of Zophar/Sarthuul is considered a high priority task, and I ask that any sightings should be reported to me directly.

<Comment: The name Zophar/Sarthuul was unknown to me, however I have done some research and there have been reports of him operating in our area of operations.  I humbly suggest that you dispatch operatives to prosecute this heretic.>

<Text deleted: Calleia concluded his speech by graciously acknowledging the efforts of Inquisitors Goddard and Necris, and by expressing his hope that they would now unite behind his leadership.  He then continued for some time in calling on the members of the Conclave to put aside their differences and to focus on that which unites them.  It was a stirring speech, and one can only hope that it took root in the minds of those assembled.  The speech was concluded with the usual ritual forms.>

Title: Re: Chronicles of the Carthaxian Conclave
Post by: Heroka Vendile on April 28, 2010, 01:46:13 AM
As Inquisitor Vendile sat in the grand amphitheatre listening the Calleia's inauguration speech, he mused on the events of the past few weeks. The worst event personally had been a meeting with a subordinate of Inquisitor Necris to exchange information, an ambush had been sprung by a third party and although the attack was thwarted, Vendile had made a foolish decision to betray the contact and open fire on him during the confusion.

He absent-mindedly rubbed at the still-healing bolt pistol wound to his leg that he'd received for his underestimating of the contacts resources. There had been no way to tell that they'd been wearing a conversion field, not even the characteristic tang in the air. He half-wondered if alien technology was in use, but either way he cared little. He was however frustrated by his current use of a walking cane to keep the weight of his damaged muscles.

The events at the election hadn't gone too badly either. Although he'd been very much caught off guard by the presence of Inquisitor Goddard's pet, Explicator Theobald, and the Malleus inquisitor's name appearing on the final candidates list. Just prior to casting his vote for Calleia, Theobald had grabbed him on the cathedral steps and pushed his back up against a wall, a relativity easy task for her considering his weakened leg. Noticing this, she had clamped her hand around his leg where the wrappings of the still-fresh bandage were and squeezed tightly as she quietly spat out to him in no uncertain terms that he had to cast his vote for Goddard or face the investigation he had promised would come Vendile's way if they ever crossed swords again.

An investigation by Goddard was definitely something to be avoided. The group of inquisitors known as the Order of Krubal had been pathetic and were swatted aside with ease, although Inquisitor Krackensmith still doggedly pursued him, and word had just reached him of the Inquisitor entering the Carthaxian sector less than a week ago. It worried him little though, Krackensmith would find little support in this sector. In comparison however Goddard's sudden rise to prominence locally, despite being based half a galaxy away, was a troublesome upset, but one that could be worked around.

Still, his vote for Goddard had made little difference, and Vendile's desired outcome of Calleia rising to power had been achieved. After all, what was one vote when he had already pressured three other inquisitors into voting for Calleia.

"As you will no doubt have noted, the destruction at Carthage claimed the lives of most of the Helios Cabal, and its few surviving members are spread far and wide in their efforts to combat the Graveel Hegemony." droned on Calleia with his speech as Vendile half-listened while in thought.

A lot of names and places were being mentioned that Vendile had never heard of before, that was one of the problems with having to relocate to a new sector. However the incident at Carthage and the battered Helios Cabal were of great interest to him. His current project required more resources, for which he needed the support of Calleia, as former head of the Cabal and now head of the Carthaxian Conclave, Vendile has sure he could convince the man to back the project. All it required was the right kind of spin to present it as a weapon for assisting the badly depleted Cabal in battling the Graveel Hegemony...

+++ MESSAGE BEGINS +++

My Lord,

Recently our Astropaths received a most disturbing message. Its source was the upper regions of Hive City 1 on the planet Xenuth VI - a hive which we have since discovered had fallen to rebellion. The heretic who authored the transmission named himself as 'Sathuul'. Due to its content, I thought it pertinent to forward the transmission to you, and am now holding the few who have seen the contents of the transmission, due to its sensistive nature. I shall deal with them as you instruct me.

+++ MESSAGE BEGINS +++

Calleia, my friend; I trust this message will somehow find its way to you. I hear you are now the new head of the Conclave and my congratulations go out to you.

But how rude, I have yet to introduce myself; although from what I understand you already know me by reputation. I am Sarthuul, the Prophet of the People. I attended the vote for the new head of the Conclave, although I noticed you were rather preoccupied by an assassination attempt. Such is the problem with your organisation; you have the people's fear but not their admiration - so their expression of displeasure is hardly surprising.

They say that every vote counts, so how does it feel knowing that one of your votes came from a notorious heretic? Apparently, during your inauguration speech you decided to announce a search for me, with the intent of ending my 'heresy'. Such is not a kind way to treat your loyal voters. Still, I am not surprised; your organisation takes the support of the people, and then turns around to bite the hand that once fed it. It shall be my pleasure to bring you and your Conclave to its knees, and finally to let the people have their say over how they wish to live. Somehow, I sense it will be quite...Chaotic.

You may be wondering the purpose of this message; why I might go out of my way to have it sent to you? My reasons were twofold. Firstly, may you now know one of your votes was mine, and may you now ask yourself why; what part you play in the plans of a notorious heretic? With this knowledge may you know that those who see this transmission know it too - I have forced your hand. Even you, in such a position can be manipulated by a lowly 'heretic'. Secondly, may you know that while you have dispatched operatives to capture me; I will not be an easy target. Do not think the aggression will be single handed.

May your dying 'god' protect you from your own weakness.

Sarthuul

+++ MESSAGE ENDS +++

As you can see, my Lord, the contents are most disturbing, but I trust that you will know how to deal with them.

The emperor protects.

My Lord,

My Master sends his apologies he could not be there in person and contacting him has been difficult as of late, but rest assured his eyes and ears were not absent from the election.

This message is to inform you that the results have returned from the tests we ran on your armour where the shot landed, as requested. From cross-examining the curious lesions left on the outer carapace where the weapon struck, I can confirm the weapon was not of human origin. It appears to have been fired from a weapon based on Eldar technology, but the evidence was not conclusive. A wider blast radius and small flecks of plasma splash indicate the weapon was either in poor condition or improvised in some way, and I can't believe that an Eldar would allow his weapon to fall into such disrepair.

Also we have had great difficulty in contacting my master, and he may not yet know of your electoral victory. We have, however, received a few transmissions from his pict-capt servitor, which appears not to have transmitted the entire message. Judging by the few images we received, the communication link must have been severed by the Umbra.

To my Brothers and Sisters

In the wake of the tragedy that has befallen our Conclave with the Events at Carthage and the loss of so many of our peers I have petitioned to have Jerrad Cross my acolyte elevated to the full rank of Inquisitor, Jerrad conducted himself with credit during my absence in the hunt for the renegade Niska and during the events of the conclave elections.

It was my feeling that despite his youth Jerrad should become an Inquisitor in his own right.

Inquisitor Altus, Vepres and Lord Inquisitor Kyriaciou stood as witness and sponsors.

In other news Lord Kyriaciou  has stood down as Master of the Order of the Iron Rose, he feels that his duties to the order removed his experience from the conclave that would be better served in rebuilding the Conclave numbers as such he has chosen the travel the sector in the hopes of finding suitable acolytes rebuild our ranks.

In the wake of this decision I have take up the Lord Kyriaciou's position, and as head of the Iron Rose I intend to drive the Order's goals harder than ever before, it has became clear to me especially during the election that our Conclave of rife with corruption and as the Order has always strived we will seek out those who have fallen from the right path and clean our house.

My Lord,

The events which led to the capture of the heretic preacher Zophar/Sarthuul have been attached for your review - File HF5463X (http://www.the-conclave.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=741.0) . Following this, as Zophar/Sarthuul was being transported to the spaceport (by armoured truck as opposed to Valkyrie, due to the reasons cited in the attached file), the truck convoy was bombed. While a few badly burned bodies of PDF men and Enforcers were found, we could not find the heretic's body. By the Emperor's will, perhaps he was hit full on by the explosion and his body was vaporised; although I fear the reality of the situation is much more grave. I am afraid he must once more be considered a danger to the people of the sector as he once again walks free.

May the Emperor protect

+++ TRANSMISSION TERMINATED +++

----------------------------------------------------------------

Dark thoughts were running through Zophar's mind. Thoughts of evil and hatred, of death and destruction, of innocents suffering needlessly. And yet; satisfaction... Maybe he had become the monster he had always committed himself to destroy. Maybe his years spent as a PDFsman trained to hunt down heretics were wasted. Maybe he need look no further than himself. This was the fate he deserved. To be trialled and executed, if he was lucky. Perhpas something far worse, perhaps he would be forced to 'redeem' himself – he had heard of tales of Chrono-gladiators and Arco-flagellants; the latter sending images racing through his mind, of a mad creature with chainswords for arms pursuing him through a city. Images of explosions filled his mind. Death might be the release; the release from this suffering and the release from this longing.

The armoured transport vehicle crunched across the rough gravel towards the spaceport. He should have been transported by Valkyrie, but apparently one of 'his associates' had destroyed that. He numbly wondered how he could have associates while he didn't know where he'd been all this time, but the officer had seemed fairly insistent. Suddenly the seat beneath him shook and he felt heat and intense pain, as he once again blacked out. Conciousness returned as he felt himself lying on what he presumed was the gravel ground. He had a serious head wound and could feel himself losing a lot of blood. He knew he was going to die. Then he heard a strangely accented gruff voice say 'Take it, you thrice damned fool!' and he felt a hilt being placed in his hand and his fingers being forcefully wrapped around it. The external damage to his head, the wound that was to kill him began to knit itself back together. He could actually feel the bone plates reconnect and the muscle, flesh and skin regrow. The, by now familiar, dizzy blood loss was gone. He felt strong and powerful.

Yet, not all was good. While his bodily damage was healed something else was happening. His mind felt like it was being compressed. Forced into a space several sizes too small. Being oushed out of his waking body and being attacked. He felt himself being simultaneously broken down and yet soothed. How dare those Imperials persecute him! He was the victim! He was defending his fellow man when he came across that sword! And now they wanted to take it away from him! He had given his life for that sword and now they wanted to take it away! Well, he would be damned if he was to let them. He was not going to die. He was going to make them see that a force such as he cannot be destroyed. A force such as he only grows more powerful with time. He felt satisfied, filled with dark ambition and an unquenchable bloodlust. He let his mind give in to the Chaos, and all returned to black. Sarthuul had returned to his rightful seat, and he would make those who took him prisoner pay. He had seen things through the warp. A point on which the fate of the sector rested. He would tip the balance in his favour. The sector would fall to Chaos and he would show the conclave what it was like to be the persecuted rather than the persecutors. Then he would return to the warp with the support of a whole sector's worth of human souls. A new god would be born, and it's name would be Sarthuul the King Of Lies.

--------------------------------------

It had been simple work for Willie. He had had to patch up his chest and arm, but luckily the Molotov cocktail he had dropped had cauterised the wounds. His arm had remained intact when separated from his body, and he was sure that his master would reward his efforts by using some of his power to reattach it. His master could heal all the ills visited upon him by the Imperium. The Imperial lawgivers had left him there, assuming he had died in the blaze of the Molotov, but he'd managed to roll over and luckily, most of the burning fluid had sprayed away from him rather than on him. He had made a mental note to make sure that he made his Molotovs more potent in future. He'd survived that one far too easily. After that, it was just an issue of shadowing Zophar's captors to the armoured truck (they had left the box of Zophar's possessions, including Sarthuul, behind when they fled the shots of his mercenary and the blades of Severin).

After he gathered the box and followed Zophar to the truck he made a few simple calculations of what path the truck would take (based on his knowledge of imperial convoy tactics and the most direct path to the space port). He knew the underside of the truck was its least armoured part; it had told him so... He talked it into stalling for a while, giving him time, and he ran ahead, planting a remotely controlled demolition charge under the gravel. After doing so, he hid behind a nearby rock formation and waited for the 3 trucks to reach the bomb. He detonated it while Zophar's carrier was above the bomb. The explosion was brilliant – a credit to Willie's bombmaking abilities, and he was fairly sure the drivers and guards inside all three of the carriers were dead. Zophar was lying on the floor, many bones broken and with a piece of shrapnel in his head. Willie removed the shrapnel and, carefully removing Sarthuul from his box placed it in Zophar's hand, closing his fingers around it. 'Take it, you thrice damned fool!', he said, knowing the sword would heal this man's body. Once Sarthull awoke and gathered his strength, perhaps then he would find his way to patching up Willie. Even if he didn't, Willie didn't particularly mind. For Willie, only the explosions mattered and things can still explode no matter how many hands you have...

+++ MESSAGE BEGINS +++

My Lord,

In a recent evaluation, we became aware that we had overlooked your Sector for quite some time, and it was one of the few remaining sectors containing no known Operatives. Your recent inauguration, we feel, provided the perfect opportunity  to dispatch one of our Operatives to the sector, in order to carry out our Affairs (with such a change in the state of the Conclave, a new face shall not be as much of a surprise). He is a reliable Inquisitor, and while he does not belong to any of the Ordos (as per Organisation regulations), he should be accounted for and treated with the same level of respect as any other member of your Conclave

I presume that you are not aware of The Organisation or our work; do not feel uninformed, there are few with clearance to access such information. I'm afraid even in light of your new position, your clearance is still not sufficient to allow you access to any information regarding The Organisation. Our Operative knows his duties, and is bound by The Organisation's code of conduct, meaning he shall respect your authority and that of the other Conclave Members; unless Affairs dictate that he must act otherwise.

I apologise for how this message must appear, we do not wish to offend you, but it is to be understood that The Organisation's authority is not to be questioned – even by one such as you. There shall only be one Operative in your sector (as per Organisation regulations), and thus we trust that our Affairs will not interfere with your duties or interests.

Do not try to respond or make contact – if we have any further information, we shall contact you.

Since you were contacted by someone claiming to be part of a group known as The Organisation, we have, at your request, compiled all the knowledge available on this mysterious group. I hope you will forgive me, my Lord, but there is little that we know for certain, as The Organisation is very secretive and shadowy, but I have included the rumours I have heard about them, as well as those ‘facts’ which had more substantial evidence behind them.

My Lord,
I wish to inform you of the discovery of the remains of the missing Inquisitor, Evia Varoya - former ally and "instrument of displeasure" of the deceased Lord Inquisitor Grolin.
Her brutalised body was clearly put through horrendous torture at the hands of a still-unknown assailant.
The deceased was discovered by chance in the cellar of a warehouse in the slum district of a large mining town on Aniels Reach, 530km from her kidnap site.
As per your request at the onset of the investigation into her kidnapping, her body and all evidence collected from both the kidnap site and the site of her discovery is now in transit to the Inquisitorial Fortress on Pillarus Prime for archiving and any further investigation.

Yours,
Marshal Dellus Ra'Al

+++ SOURCE: TERSESI IV +++
+++ AUTHOR: INQUISITOR IOLAX ARES +++
+++ RECIPIENT: INQUISITOR LORD CALLEIA +++

My Lord Inquisitor Calleia, I bring grave news.

Our attempts to quell the political tensions on Tersesi IV, while they have held off the onset of war for seventy-one years, have finally failed, with no fewer than one thousand, nine hundred and eighty eight noble families having renounced Governor Sigrefe as incompetent and unworthy of his position.

While we had anticipated and prepared for a rebellion on a smaller scale, the military manpower available to nearly two thousand families in unison has left the PDF and Arbites outmatched, fighting a losing battle. PDF desertions are at level Beta X, despite unprecedented dwindling of the Commissariat's ammunition stores.

At present, the projected advancement of the enemy forces gives a time-scale of no longer than three standard months before Tersesi becomes unable to meet its vital tithe of adamantium ores. If hostilities prolong to six months or longer, the planet will likely remain unable to provide its full tithe for at least twenty years.

We have already requisitioned several regiments of the Imperial Guard, and petitioned both the Chapter Master of the Astral Jackals and the Collegia Titanicus on Sollemne VII for aid. I pray to the Emperor that they will respond with the haste and force necessary.

The truly concerning news is that this is in the wake of events I am convinced were deliberate political sabotage, attacking Governor Sigrefe's reputation and exploiting long running feuds to their fullest. I attach file 8916A.ix, cataloguing all such events. Statistical analysis by the Inquisition's Lexmechanics shows a <0.46% probability of such a sequence occurring without a calculated intent.

I myself am leading the hunt for these heretics, and vow to subject them to the full force of the Inquisition's justice.

I am pleased to report to the conclave the the demonic artefact codenamed deus ex has been recovered and the threat to a certain important trade hub ended.  I would commend my colleague Terwyn for securing the recovery of the artefact in the face of considerable injuries, sustained battling the demonic forces unleashed.

It is with regret that I report that the artefact is not as useful as it has been previously.  It would appear that an unknown xenos was able to interfere with the bindings on the artefact and, skilled though I am, I have been unable to cleanse the taint.  This renders use of the artefact dangerous in the extreme, and I am sequestering it in a secure archive until we can determine exactly what occured.

My Lord Inquisitor Calleia,
Please find attached the full report on Project Osnova's progress. To surmise the very lengthy contents for my lord:
Logitechnician Gellus predicts the facilities systems will be capable of running full experiments in 19 days time, after which time the experiments shall be run as previously agreed with yourself for a period of 12 days before changing to the experimental process put forward by Magos Vosh for the next 12 days. With the following 12 days then allotted to the experiments planned by the Scholastica Psykana. This will allow for the follow-up inspection by all three parties of all the initial findings to be presented in 55 days time.
Bellus then goes on to request confirmation from yourself as to who will be expected as the Inquisitorial representative at said inspection.

Your humble servant,
Senior Scrivinor-Adept Halkholm

the relative peace of the battleships background noise was shattered by a thundering crescendo of noise before Magos Rownes' synthetic voice began barking a barrage of explitives.

Adept Liwet sighed as she wandered toward Rownes office-chapel. These outbursts were becoming more commonplace, Rownes inexperience with non-automated lifeforms clashing with his inquisitive clone-child.

As she approached the chapel door it opened and a bulky servitor stepped through carrying Annika, almost lovingly,  the child sobbing.
"Take her to my area." Liwet stroked Annikas hair as the servitor passed. she was unsure if it was her imagination but their movements seemed softer and gentler in Annikas presence.

She entered the chapel and observed Rowne directing a collection of servoarm fittings and servitors as they shunted pieces of tech into place.

"Ommisiaah-cursed failure of an experiment." Rownes' servitor body turned for face Liwet. "What do you want?"

"The Inquisition is gathering. I am going to utilise the distraction to move freely. There is a multitude of archeotech asleep, waiting to be rescued and awakened."

"Your standard contract stands. A bonus should you take that abomination with you" Rownes servitor waved a hand languidly.

Liwet stomped back down the corridor barking commands into the vox-bead. "Adept Octus! Prepare my lander and Servitors 4-RR-1 through to 4-RN-1! we're going hunting!"

My Lord as you have requested I present the Order's recent activities.

Inquisitor Cross has been engaged with investigations regarding a Preacher Attfield who has recently been heard speaking out against the Inquisition, Cross is currently tracking the Preacher across the sector following in the wake of his sermons, sermons which have brought hostility to not only members of our order but the enforcers of the Arbiters and sisters of the Ordo Millitants. This latter hostility is troubling as the sisterhood not only serve out needs but also those of the church, if Attfield has turned rouge that is a troubling notion as his movements and actives are far beyond the abilities of a regular Preacher.

Lord Kyriaciou has successfully gathered a body of some dozen candidates for Inquisitional service of those he is hopeful that a handful of those will be worthy of joining our ranks, he has withdrawn to a secluded safehouse known only to himself to begin his training, we can only hope that his works are successful.

Inquisitor Telum has recently joined our ranks, an acolyte of the Mysterious Inquisitor Vepres he possesses a unique ability that I will discuss with you more in depth, it is my opinion that the young inquisitor would be better suited within the ranks Malleus but so far he is resistant to the idea, I am presently seeking a suitable member of the conclave with whom he could work alongside, any suggestions of a suitable tutor would be welcome.

In regards to myself, my recovery from the incidents surrounding your successful election continues to progress at a steady pace, and my investigations continue also I was alarmed to discover a Xenos present at such a high security event and my suspicions of its nature have urged me to summon Inquisitor Xaros of the Ordo Xenos to aid me in my investigations, I have dispatched my own agents in the hunt for Zophar and they had reported some marginal success in predicting and tracking his movements, we have reasons to believe that his presence will be felt in the up coming months, I have also requested an audience with Inquisitor Marco a witness to the attempt upon my life I am hoping he can shed some light onto the identity of my attacker.

I hope this meets with your requirements.

Kind Regards

Necris, Grand Master of the Order of the Iron Rose.

My lord Calleia

I must regrettably inform you that my investigations into the identity of Kaede Mack have come to something of an impasse.  One of his body doubles agreed to lead us to a meeting and pointed out a masked figure as Kaede Mack.  Although this man did show impressive skills with a knife before I naturally got the better of him, he appeared drug crazed and hardly a likely candidate for a leading criminal.  More likely he was an assassin, and Mack had advanced warning that the meeting was a set up.

Meanwhile our contact had been gunned down by Kaede Mack, according to another witness (incidently, matching many of my descriptions of Mack), who was also gunned down by an ally of the same.  Return fire from my associate Martin Cameron and myself forced them into cover, but little was left to salvage and the trail had gone dry.  At last count that leaves 4 Kaede Macks, who appear to be involved in some kind of turf war, in which case my recommendation is to let them fight it out.

Miraculusly, our contact recovered her wounds, but has few memories, and now follows Martin, who for some reason was praying for her recovery, around like an adoring puppy.  I have of course considered termination, but this seems to be his divine will.

I have secured us Quaters two large suites and some smaller bunk rooms all along the same corridor. Harlotta is already busy trying to Jack into the stations Database and we are Operating under false identities. I believe this will be a suitable base of operations for your investigations, Reliable warp routes into the Carthax Sector put it and the Carthaxian Conclave less than 2 weeks away although it puts us tentativley outside there Jurisdiction.

My Activities on Vagros IV have progressed well and in the month i have been establishing our headquaters here my agents in the capital have been causing quite a stir, I Will be heading back to Vagros IV in two standard Terran weeks, this puts my departure a week before your arrival here at serenity outpost  however I will be leaving Harlotta here and your other Agents are due to arrive within the week aboard the Rogue Trader Vessel "libertine". Rest assured my lord everything is well in hand here and we await your arrival.

Of course these jobs are only to cover our tracks but i rather find myself looking forward to being able to practice frontier medicine again.

I Understand our objective is to investigate the possibility of a underground railroad whisking Psykers out of the Carthax sector and into the relative safety of the Velgorth expanse. Along with the possibility of there being a psyker colony world and possible breeding program there. We are due to arrive in just under a weeks time at Serenity outpost, once there i will take over from Novus and allow him to prepare for the next stage in his Vagros Mission .

Tobias, Novus I hope this message finds you both in good health, Firstly Novus i wish you luck on your Vagros IV Mission even here on Distant Sosaria we have heard of the mutant uprisings on Vagros, Your agents have done well the Inquisition has dispatched teams to capture the so called "Upright Man" I do hope you dont allow them to, I've started to distribute reports that the "Upright Man" is a unsanctioned psyker of considerable power and that the mutant uprisings have drawn enough sector wide attention to draw out those operating the underground railroad. Once contacted remember you are reluctant to leave your "people" but slowly be persauded especially if they mention the Inquisition kill teams en route to capture you.

Tobias once Novus has been rescued by the underground it is unlikely that they will give him any details about where he is going or on which ship, it will be your teams job to gather this information use any means nessecery but do not get caught. Once you have identified which ship he is on i will need you to get Harlotta to create a data hack and get all the information she can, I sincerely doubt the flight path they log will be accurate or even to there real destination if she can access there navigational logs and find out where they have actually been that would be impressive as well as information on armament, crew compliment, cargo and any dealings done in the Velgorth Expanse with other Rogue Trader vessels.

While Harlotta does that i want to get some people on the inside, no doubt they will be provisioning for there journey i want you Tobias to try and sign on as a ships surgeon its unlikely they will have anyone with half as much experience as you, especially in Xenos physiology, I will need you to watch Novus's back and when you make planetfall to see if you can try and find out about the leadership of any such psyker colony if it exists

Novus I will dispatch my own Kill team to try and pick up your mutant associates before the others do, as much as i loathe them they are usefull tools and reliable assets, I will have them extracted and then instruct Krell to destroy the rest of the mutant populace using extreme prejudice.

Lord Stormgrad, I have retrieved Interegator Tristar's assets they are safe and secure and await debriefing. One did say that the Upright Man has left according to plan and that the Train will take approximatley 6 weeks, this would roughly put them 3 weeks into the Velgorth Expanse. I have also captured several other mutants before the Kill Teams arrived, All of them have been sold at Auction and i am using the thrones to secure passage to Serenity Outpost. I am due to arrive roughly within 3 weeks hopefully only a day or two behind the ship Novus is on.

I've Also got a list of Rogue Trader Vessels arriving and leaving the Vagros system in the last week, i am forwarding that to you now along with this report despite the likelyhood of them being false leads its interesting to Note that 3 vessels are marked as heading to Serenity outpost within our currently predicted timeframe.

A recent addition to the ranks of the Inquisition, Magdalene has only held her credentials for little over a standard year after serving for nearly two decades under the tutelage of renowned tyranid expert; Inquisitor Ithobaal. Despite her relatively young age, she has become an authoritive figure in the study of the genestealer and whilst not currently attached to any ordo, she is known to have many patrons and contacts within the Ordo Xenos.

Raised in a scholam progenium <exact records currently unavailable> from an early age, her education is considered unremarkable and was originally earmarked to take orders in the sororitas in one of the non-militant orders until the onset of puberty awakened her latent psychic abilities. She is recorded to have spent several months in solitary confinement before being handed to the Black Ships. Evaluated as pure, Magdalene then spent her remaining adolescent years training in the Scholastica Psykana. Not powerful enough to join the ranks of the astropaths or to serve the Imperial Guard as a sanctionite, she was swept into an Inquisitorial draft to serve as a menial aide/savant. The circumstances of her eventual tenure with Ithobaal are not detailed and her service under her patron is outlined in Ithobaal's own records.

The year after her elevation to Inquisitor status are believed to be mostly filled with academia, having published several educational documents and studies into the genestealer menace. Her recent arrival in the Carthax sector is due to the predicted movements of the infamous hulk; The Mausoleum of Atrax.

Before The Great Crusade
The planet that was to become Velterax was once a lush and verdent Eldar world named Nuaso Elradly was inhabited on 3 of it's 5 continents as the other 2 are and were teaming with violent xeno that killed in sight with poison capable of killing an Eldar in a matter of milliseconds. The 3 inhabited continents were also populated by a violent and inteligent species known as the yneath to the Eldar and Rabid Inteligent Veltraxians (RIVs), the Eldar got on well with these creatures. Then came the inevitable fall of the Eldar race. With the birth of Slaanesh, many Eldar were killed in the explosion of warp energy the creation of a new entity has. Most of the rest were killed either in the planet's death throes and it's desertification and the hordes of deamons that killed all in their path. Those that survived were left devastated and st about the rebuilding of their world. In a bid for freedom, a nearby human colony ship, lost in the warp since the dark age of technology made landfall and called themselves the Al Bhanshkav, after their pilot who died of old age during landfall. These people lived off what they needed and lived as nomads for several centuries.

The Horus Heresy
During this period of great turmoil for the imperium, Velterax was to reach it's most war-filled period to date as a strike force of corrupted Sons of Horus reinstated themselves from the warp after a 2 day jump from Danter Gamma from the Carathax sector, a jump that should have taken 4 months. Fortunately, the newly raised Velterax PDF and Ultramarine Garrison. Fortunately they drove off the invaders and an Ultramarines strike force led by the Battlebarge Ceaser. Though sheduled to be engaged for 9 months including combat time was back within 2 weeks. This was a sure sign of a warp slipstream, and the reports from the navigators on the Ceaser commented about the currents being so easy to navigate that great warp speeds could be achieved as well as the actual warp distance being comparatively short. This discovery made Velterax a prize target for raiders of all races, And also the whole Velterax System was converted to a major warp travel going both to and from from the Carathax Sector.

You know I hate using these thrice-damned private channels... They would miss a fourth Astropath, and the other three are giving off some kind of warp stench that the psyhounds can track quicker than you said they would. This will be our last transmission, we have to leave this planet, it's not safe for us here any more.

That new pet of yours earned its stripes alright, the pict-capt quality isn't great, but with a bit of tinkering it could work.

I've attached what I could piece together, the stupid mutt spent most of the time staring at bushes and mudcrawlers. The footage is harrowing - the Inquisitor was right, the darkness is coming, and I don't know what we can do this time to stop it, especially without him.

We will keep looking for him though - if your pet found him once, we can find him again.

We're on our own.

My Lords,

As requested I bring you an update regarding the Nexus Belt Crusade.

Things do not go well for the Imperium we have been ground to a stand still unable to regain our strength along the Nexus Belt, as will have no doubt been noticed the resultant wars along the belt have caused supply lines to be effected the stable warp routes are rife with pirates and unprecedented warp rift activity.

We are engaged on all fifteen worlds along the belt and which we show signs of victory on worlds of Kaladon Sextus and Majaris Prime they do not present primary strategic points, the other worlds are held in stalemate between the forces of Chaos and the Imperium and I must commend the actions of the Ultramarines and Magma Crow space marines were it not for their valour and bravery we would have lost half a dozen worlds to the forces of the Word Bearers and their Brotherhood of the Knife. Imperial Guard regiments from Carthage and Carthax are presenting strong lines against enemy attack but they lack the man power and resources to push forward any significant counter actions for each battle we win, we are beaten back in another theatre.

Rumour has come to my ears of Grey Knight activity along the Belt but I have yet to receive any official word of their presence this is a troubling factor for myself as I serve staunchly in the Malleus and have a long history of working alongside the Grey Knights, it is worrying that they have not reported to Crusade command to further aid our endeavours further more Inquisitor Vextor of the Ordo Xenos has presented evidence of Eldar Pirates targeting supply vessels I have tasked him with the extermination of these vermin and seconded ten squads of the Deathwatch to his needs.

Inquisitor Crowe remains on Carthage, he seeks answers in the ruins of Eternity, and strives to strip the world of taint and rebuild some form of government, I feel though that Carthage is lost, the world will be little more than a back water and a blighted name upon the records the astropathic cataclysm there is still being felt the Astromican in the immediate vicinity of the Carthage is none existent and astro-navigation is difficult I suspect it will be many generations before the world is returned to it's former glory if it ever can be. On that note the remaining regiments of the Carthage Lancers have been entered into permanent Inquisitorial service their world is for all purposes lost and they can be put to better use serving us than lingering in the Imperial Guard Reserves.

Ave Imperator

The Wilderwest is the most western point of the Carthax sector, extending beyond the light of the astronomicon and into the halo stars. Due to areas where the warp is unusually becalmed, making normal ship travel difficult to those without an Almanac to chart the ever shifting shipping lanes, the region was never fully brought into compliance by the Ultramarines and swifty degenerated back into a lawless realm of space with only The Boundary remaining staunchly under Imperial rule.

===============================================================================

://<accessing_subcat>_
The Boundary represents the final frontier of the Imperium on the western edge of the Carthax sector, bordering on the anarchic Lawless Worlds and the capricious Caprasia Doldrums, it has few worlds of any material wealth and acts as little more than a blockade to prevent fugitives escaping Imperial Law.

Planets of note:

The Gateway, or Gateway 45/j/8b to use the Administratum's fulll unimaginative title, is the last Imperial planet before passing the borders into the Lawless Worlds and houses the second largest judicial hub in the sector to cope with the mass of prosecutions. Also known unofficially as the Runner's Rest due to its use as the central base for many of the bounty hunters operating in this region of space.

Port Sentinel is an artificial planetoid that acts as a refuelling station and final port for many traders and supply ships preparing to embark into the Caprasia Doldrums.

===============================================================================

://<accessing_subcat>_
The Lawless Worlds are a haven for all those seeking to escape retribution from the Imperial authorities with few planets having any semblence of Imperial Law left, it is a realm where life is cheap and people,  and sometimes entire ships, can disappear without trace.

Planets of note:

Deception, formally known as Autograd, was once a majestic hiveworld with high amounts of industrial output until the natural resources diminished and production levels dropped, forcing the Administratum to cut its tithes, and along with further complications of offworld supplies, many of the aristocracy, wealthy and the lucky simply embarked on a mass exodus, leaving several million unfortunates behind to witness the hiveworld slowly rot. Now, it is little more than a haven for pirates, renegades and criminals, each carving their own little business empires of highly illegal traffick, but breathing a little life back into the dying world. It is rumoured that anyone can acquire anything in Deception.

Nastrid, a barren frontier world of continent sized savannahs and rocky mountain ranges. Having little mineral wealth, there are a few mining settlements across its surface, however its reputation is largely due to the big game and dangerous predators that roam across its plain that many traders come to hunt, capture and sell as pit beasts to coreward planets for a lucrative profit.

Mercia, orignally classified as a deathworld due the high temperature, uninhabitable deserts, sparse vegetation and a plethora of predatory, toxic and venomous fauna, it was reclassified as frontier world due to large mineral deposits discovered in the more habitable regions of the planet. Now, its primarily visited by members of Adeptus Mechanicus and prospectors with an eye for larger mining operations in the future.

===============================================================================

://<accessing_subcat>_
The Wilderwest is the region of space that extends beyond the furthest reaches of the astronomicon and many of the worlds within have yet to be classified let alone populated.

Planets of note:

Calico, a mining world of rare mineral deposits with a surface covered with gravel and towers of scree several miles high, all contact has since been lost and all expeditions to accertain the cause have failed to return.

End, or End of the Line was once a frontier world and furthest westerly planet of the Imperium lying on the astronomicon median line, for reasons unknown End degenerated from Imperial rule and became an outpost for all forms of reprobates, both human and xenos alike. Amongst the shelter-towns, nestled in the planet's glacial crags away from the arctic winds, a man may find any number of willing mercenaries with a wide variety of specialisations.

===============================================================================

://<accessing_subcat>_
The Caprasia Doldrums are a treacherous realm, filled with spacial pockets of becalmed-warp that makes navigating the shipping lanes extremely difficult without an Almanac, and whilst there are several populated planets within this region, tales of ships that can become trapped for centuries at a time normally leave them isolated from the Imperium as only the most tenacious and well-prepared shipmaster are willing to even attempt the journey.

Planets of note:

Virgil is a maximum security penal colony. For all intents and purposes, Virgil is uninhabitable for all known life due to its extreme amospheric pressure, high surface temperature, dense carbon dioxide atmosphere and frequent acid storms that scours the planet of any organic matter. The colony itself is actually several kilometers below the surface, with a single port above ground shielded by a thick umbrella of adamantium. Being sentenced to incarceration on Virgil means a lifetime of mining to harness the geothermic energy needed to power the colony without any possibility of escape.

Samson was as far as the Ultramarines penetrated into the Caprasia Doldrums and by that time, it had developed into an independant civilisation and treated the arrival of the astartes as a threat and authorised the use of their atomic weapons. The resultant thermonuclear war all but destroyed the once verdant world leaving it a blasted radioactive desert. Shortly after, an outbreak of the deadly Neurone plague deccimated the remaining survivors, leaving the scattered remnant tribes of road warriors scavenging amongst the endless highways and shattered cities, ever embattled against each other and the slowly growing population of walking corpses.

Meridian has few settlements but a large research facility called Three-Fourteen that catalogues stellar anomalies, however, as much of the information about Three-Fourteen has been sealed by the Inquisition, rumours abound that something altogether more sinister is happening on Meridian, especially considering its close proximity to the quarantined Naxos Reaches.

Now little more than a feral world of desolate crags, Hinnom, a long lost human colony in the furthest reaches of the Caprasia Doldrums, dates back as far as the Dark Age of Technology. The precise details of the so-called Tragedy of Hinnom's Children sometime after its rediscovery in the thirty-second millennium are unknown, but what is suspected is that a cataclysm forced the colonists to turn to genetic technology and surgical alteration to survive, sciences that were considered horrific even in that dark age. Several generations of further genetic degeneration have left Hinnom's Children little more than twisted monsters, malicious and childlike killers that are a far flung parody of the human condition and rumours abound of savage raiders in decrepit flotillas of archaic ships that furiously attack any ship foolish enough to stray too close to Hinnom's boundaries.

===============================================================================

://<accessing_subcat>_
The Naxos Reaches have been quarantined by the Inquisition, supposedly once inhabited by an ancient and long extinct xenos race, it is believed that it harbours many worlds with ruined evidence of this once-civilisation, although most of the charts and stellar-maps are contridctory at best to be certain. Few that venture into this region ever return, but those that do normally speak of the vast treasures to be found there.

To most, Terra Incognita is a myth, but for the few madmen that have ever returned from there speak of glittering cities of pearl and bone, isolated temples devoted to elemental gods, where the normal laws of reality are but mere suggestions and the wonders a man can discover there.
