Title: Psi-Track Question
Post by: Brother_Brimstone on June 18, 2010, 01:10:07 PM
Hi, when deciding the kit for my Heretek, i decided on giving him a psi-tracker auspice equivalent as one of his mechadendrites. My question is about the power psi-track in general.

In the description it says it reveals every character on the board and you hone in on one particular character, tracking them. So does that mean you can use it even if you haven't seen anyone, and suddenly you see everyone, and pick one character of all the characters on the board to track? Or does it mean you see one character, then use the power on that character and then you know everyone on the board, but may track the character you've seen?

So, for example, could my heretek use it in his first turn to see who is on the board and then follow one character (despite not having seen any enemies), or would he have to wait to see one character and then use it 'on them', so to speak?

All advice appreciated.

I would normally allow it to be used as per your first description. However, I might expect some justification as why he has focused on a certain target.

One reason is that there's all too easy a loophole in the other version... just pick a nearby friendly character to track. No reason that's not valid. You then become aware of everyone else anyway.

That's the interpretation I was favouring, as it seems to make more sense. In the other explanation, seeing all the characters on the board seems like an unnecessary step - why would you need to see everyone on the board if you are just wanting to track a single character you can see anyway? The first explanation makes it seem like he looks into the warp and 'locks on' to a particular warp essence.

The power description says he recognises daemons and psykers, but another thing i was wondering was how much a 'warp presence' can tell you about a character. Size? Shape? Species? Are the presences like incandescent vapours in the darkness or ghostly reflections of what they represent? So would an ogryn look different to a ratling, despite the fact they're both human subspecies, or because they have the same level of presence do they therefore look the same? I ask this for reasons of why he might choose to track one character over another.

Thanks for the advice, any more input appreciated.

I'd imagine species would show up, Eldar standing out from Humans, and Tau barely showing up at all... The corrupt may also be distinguishable from the pure, with dark taints and shadows. Other than that, perhaps not much. He may only pick someone due to their position... Also, I would think that locking on to one person in a crowd would be difficult, much as following one person with your eyes in a crowd can be hard.

Thanks, i think that's a good basis to work off. Being a Chaotic sort, who has very much embranced the random cruelty of Chaos, I was thinking a good way to pick a target if there is no other basis (i.e. if there is a daemon or psyker on the field he'll probably target them, perhaps hoping to 'investigate' their warp capabilities, and as you say, he may particularly pick on one character due to position) I was thinking of simply rolling a dice, representing him playing 'eenie meenie miney mo' to find his next victim.

Thanks for the input.
