New to Conclave: Old to Inquisitor

If you're thinking "oh, arm them with the most basic pistol", remember that the laspistol is supplied in the trillions, to every branch. The Imperial Guard, the Navy, the Arbites, the Administratum (the normal, clerky bit), planetary enforcers and PDF, the Departmento Munitorum, everyone - and so there would a lot available to civilians as well. As for ammunition, the only place you can't get more shots for a laspistol is a cold dark tunnel... which admittedly is where Inquisitors spend a lot of their time, but its not like you can find stubber rounds there either.
Questions are a burden to others, answers a burden to oneself.

Inquisitors have all sort of underlings to do that kind of menial task and their operations are already huge, so minor increases in the scale of materiel acquisition is not a big deal for them.

A character's equipment says a lot about them, so narrowing down choices will restrict the depth you can give their personality.

For example, choosing a revolver over an automatic shows that the character puts a greater value on reliability than ammunition capacity. He's probably been in a lot of short, decisive fights.

Someone who chooses a long arm over a pistol prefers firepower over concealability and subtlety (and has more sense than to try and do that job by picking an oversized hand cannon!)

And choosing a Solid Projectile weapon over a Las shows that the character prefers the intimidation factor of the various mechanical noises and roar of firing, as well as perhaps that the lower-tech equipment discourages any impressions they are an Imperial agent (and maybe he occasionally uses special purpose ammunition). Of course, this is at the cost of reliability, ammunition capacity, ammunition availability (find a Power socket, leave them in the sun or even put them in a fire in a pinch), the complete lack of forensic evidence left (no bullet or spent casing)... everything really.

As DapperAnarchist says, Laspistols are the weapon of the Imperium - and only really have two disadvantages:
- They're more complex to build, so can't be made on low tech worlds.
- They're more susceptible to airborne particles - fog, smoke - although most probably work on very short wavelengths that would be less affected by these things than visible wavelengths.

Even amongst characters that might prefer to use solid projectile weapons for other reasons, most probably keep a Las in amongst their belongings for when things are really bad.

But anyway, I'm rambling.
S.Sgt Silva Birgen: "Good evening, we're here from the Adeptus Defenestratus."
Captain L. Rollin: "Nonsense. Never heard of it."
Birgen: "Pick a window. I'll demonstrate".

Yeah good point fellas. I will be definately changing them. I have been thinking about las weapons anyway. They do have a certain charm. I personally think that high-tech lasers that blow giant cauterised holes in people are more intimidating than projextile weapons which havent changed their basic design in millenia...

thanks for the feed back. should be doing the experience and training rolls tonight so ill post an updated stat sheet soon.

OH...

and i just realised the reason why we haven't been arming our guys with las weapons....

WYSIWYG - very few of the stock models are armed with las pistols... and until the weapon upgrade pack i have bought arrives i will be using stubbers and auto pistols... which is a shame given that i prefer las weapons personally.

that said, hopefully WYSIWYG from 40k doesnt actually apply like in fantasy and i can start changing liberally

thanks guys

A quick scan of the thread leaves me thinking you're modelling in 54mm? In which case 40k side arms fit in fine scale wise.

The GW line of massive guns look cool/can be easily seen on the table at 28mm means that most fit quite well on 54mm as reasonably realistic hand guns (i.e something that really could be waved about in one hand without being a SM or having serious bionic augmentation).

28mm las rifles can also make good las carbines, relace the solid stock with a bit of bent wire, voila, folding stock.

Most bitz sites can supply pistols and rifles in resonable numbers for something like 30p/50c each, and plasma pistols, inferno pistols and so forth for the odd ones who don't mind taking a chance. Conversion just needs a bit of careful knife and/or saw work.

Yeah I have looked at this and it doesn't look right to my eye. I have done this and i dont mind the lasgun scale when cut in half and made into a las pistol but the scale is not right for a las carbine IMO.

I am currently sculpting weapons from greenstuff (i.e. lasgun, laspistol, autogun, autopistol, shotgun) and plan to cast them for repeats so hopefully they will do the job (they are coming out quite well if i do say so myself...)

Thanks for the idea of a folding stock lascarbine though - will probably use that on my hive ganger npcs if the casting doesn't work out.
